Macbook pro trying to speed up connection to pc network files

Question

I have a macbook pro and I am connected to a pc network at work. I am trying to view files on a drive called the L drive at work, and it takes forever to view the same files that are viewable instantly on a PC. Do i need to change a configuration?

Hi mikkilla,
If you already have a router, then you'll want your second router to operate in a different manner. Otherwise you'll run into a "double NAT" scenario. That primary router is mostly likely serving as your DHCP distribution device. For example... it's giving any device that connects to an IP address, like 192.168.1.25 or 10.0.1.4
With that being said, if you connected another router off this router (via one of the Ethernet ports in your wall) you'd want to arrange it one of two manners:
1.) If the primary router offers WiFi capabilities, you'd want to have this secondary router join the existing WiFi network to "extend" it's range.
2.) If the primary router does not offer WiFi capabilities, you'd want to setup the router into a bridge mode setup.
