Macbook Pro turns off instead of sleep mode

Hello,
I'm having this issue for like 2 weeks now. It's maybe 2 and half years old Macbook Pro, battery has 88% health and 650 cycles (according to iStat Pro). I don't think it's battery issue, Macbook still runs several hours on battery.
I have tried resetting SMC (not sure if it worked, I haven't notice anything unusual like when you reset PRAM) and PRAM with no success.
Also when I turn computer on after it shutdowns like this, date and time are messed up. Could it be problem with "the small bios battery"? Because computer should keep these basic informations even if out of power right?
It's not a major issue, so just asking around.... Do not want to spent money on some costly repairs, would rather buy new notebook eventually (when other issues will come by).
Thanks
Davon

There is no "BIOS battery." You have a logic-board fault.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • MacBook Pro turns off rather than sleeping

I recently had my MacBook Pro serviced by best buy as it is covered under their extended warranty. None of the speakers were working and they had to replace the speakers as well as the logic board.  Since I have gotten it back the sound is working again fine but I have noticed that every time the MacBook should go to sleep (such as when it is closed or sits idle for a period of time) it turns off rather than go to sleep. I must then turn it on and go through the rebooting process every time I use it. I am just wondering if I am just missing a setting, more is there now something else wrong with my computer?

You either need to plug in your charger and if that isn't working if your machine is less than a year old take it in to your nearst Apple Store and let them deal with it. Or if you are out of warrantee you will need to get a new battery for your Mac
    Cheers

  • Macbook Pro shutting off instead of sleeping

Hi my macbook pro is simply switching off when the battery is low rather than putting it self to sleep (and retaining contents of memory) its just clicking and dying instantly - is this a fault? My battery history as reported by coconut is 22 months old, 457 cycles, 79% capacity

I am having the same problem. This battery is the one that replaced the original when there was a recall (not all that long ago). According to coconut the capacity is only 13%.
Do you know if there's any way to salvage this or will I have to purchase a new one?

However mine skips this completely and just turns off. WHY? does this mean the battery is bad?
Resetting the PRAM (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/26871.html) fixed the problem in my case. then i did the calibrate the battery again this time it went to sleep not shut down i did this 3 more times why?
the 3 forced shut downs without entering SafeSleep. with logs indicating improper shutdown, will that cause severe corruption to the os and do i have to reinstall the os now?2.66 ghz 2010

the 9 more 4 in 10.6.4 forced shut downs without entering SafeSleep. with logs indicating improper shutdown, will that cause severe corruption to the os and do i have to reinstall the os now?2.66 ghz 2010 but if it happens again you should try
i hate to do this reinstalling the OS, if this do not work also, then you should call apple, or take your MBP to an apple store. on june 24 2010 i am going to talk to spence about this. so what do i do now? this happed on june 16 2010 4 more times
without entering SafeSleep. only one time it worked on 10.6.4

This is a current sensor on the power bus. This seems consistent with your symptoms.
A faulty sensor on the logic board means  the board has to be replaced,  take in for repair:

  • Macbook pro runs really slow after sleep mode

My MBP ( MacBook Pro (13-inch, medio 2012), 2,5 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB), runs very slow after sleep mode. I notice that when I wake it up, my memory usage is nearly 8 GB. After a restart it is back no a normal level, between 2 and 5 GB depending on how many programs I am running. Any ideas what causes this? My IOS is Yosemite 10.10.2
    Kind regards

  • MacBook Pro turned off on its own and now won't turn back on.

MacBook Pro turned off on its own and now won't turn back on.  Battery had 41% just before this happened and green indicator on power cord is showing, so it seems like it's charging.  What should I do?

The led on the power adapter should be amber if it is charging.  Green just indicates that it is supplying power to the MBP.
    Try a SMC reset:

  • MacBook Pro does not got to sleep mode

    OS: 10.6.8
Since OS ??? I have the problem, that working with the account I normally use, may MacBook Pro will not go to sleep mode.
It is strange, but only this account is affected.
If I use another account, MacBook Pro goes to sleep mode as expected.
All accounts I work with are standard accounts without admin rights.
Can anybody help? E.g. some damaged *.plist to delete or so...

  • Macbook pro turns off when i unpliug

macbook pro turns off when i unpliug

You either need to plug in your charger and if that isn't working if your machine is less than a year old take it in to your nearst Apple Store and let them deal with it. Or if you are out of warrantee you will need to get a new battery for your Mac
    Cheers

  • IMac turns off instead of sleeping

This only recently started occurring, and I cannot correlate it with anything that I might have done.
When I tell my iMac G5 to go to sleep - be it via shortcut, menu, power button, anything - it turns off instead of sleeping. It does not shut down properly, but simply turns off suddenly and completely. Upon rebooting, everything seems to be functioning well.
Did all the usual reboot, fix permissions, and so forth, to no avail. Apple hardware test reports no problems, although it took over an hour to run an extended test.
    Any help would be appreciated.

You haven't done anything, it's a power supply problem or a capacitor problem and you should take it in and have it seen to before it gets any worse. Make sure you have a backup of all your data before you take it in. If it's not an iSight, you can open the back and check the caps to see if they are swollen or leaking. While you're about it, vacuum the fans and the vent slots to see if excessive dust buildup is the problem.

  • Why in the world did update 1.4 start turning off WiFi in sleep mode again?

This time, we werent even given a choice. It just turns off by design. Thats not cool! I really solely on WiFi at home because my EV connection at home is close to nothing. You guys can ask Sprint to put a tower in New City, NY.

I agree that some time ago you stayed connected.
I have the same problem now: twitter messages don't come in anymore when phone is in sleep mode.
Before they always came in directly when sent.
Apple should give us more options so we choose for ourselfves what we want.
It must be very hard to create an option: wifi off when in sleep mode yes/no ?
Also making a real copy of a picture that you have taken would be nice.
So when you delete the original, the copy keeps existing !

  • Macbook pro HD replace while in sleep mode(not off)

    Hi All
I would just like to find out..I had my hard disk replaced by an apple authorised repair tech..took the hd to them and asked them to just fit it for me I`ll do the data side by reinstalling OSX..They did the whole opporation for me but whne I got home I saw that my computer was in sleep mode and all the apps are still open? The new HD had nothing on it so I suppose it just ran off the memory.(I was quite furious since they did not shut down my computer before swapping out the HD) My MBP is only a week old and I am quite holy about my baby!
So my question is would this action that they performed in sleep mode have casued damage to my MBP? What can I check to make sure that it did not cause damage?
I ran an extended Apple hardware test and it came back with no issues..but I think my mac is a little slower than it was before so how can I be sure?

Are you telling us that when you got home with your computer and its new internal hard drive, *with nothing installed on the drive yet,* you woke the machine up and found applications open and running? I don't think that's possible. You have somehow misunderstood what was done or what you saw.
Go back to the shop and ask for an explanation of exactly what was done, preferably direct from the employee who did the work. After hearing him or her out respectfully, describe what you saw or thought you saw on your return home, and ask for an explanation of that.
I don't think you have any cause to be mad — at least not until the work and its results have been explained to you. But you are entitled to ask questions, calmly and politely, about exactly what you paid for.

  • MacBook Pro turns off instantly, charger sparkles.

MB Pro (Early 2011) turns off instantly if I move my charger cable or touch magnetic DC connector (L-type). I can also hear connector sparkle, when moving it. It started happening recently and now it's getting on my nerves, especially if I forget to save a project (because I would have to start all over again). I've read a lot of topics on this problem, but haven't found the exact circumstances.
It would be grateful if somebody explained me the reason and suggested a solution for this issue.

i know this is a year old, but did you ever figure out what the problem was? my mid 2010 macbook pro is doing this... a lot, but only as of recently. I use it a lot, but recently it has just started to move a lot slower, and has been doing things like this, it will not go into sleep mode( will go dark then come back on while closed), pinwheel of death etc..
anyway,  it shut down 4 times in an hour the other day. its as if my charger stops working (the light wil go off) and at the same time my computer will crash. i dont know what is causeing it.. i also have the service battery warning, if that has anything to do with it.
any ideas of what the problem is? or of a solution....?
