MacBook Pro updated at MacWorld

Just got off the phone to the Apple Store as I was about to place an order for a MacBook Pro. They advised me to wait until Wednesday to call place my order...the same advice was given to me in person at an Apple retail store last Friday. Seems strange a store delaying a £1500 sale...
Could this mean new MacBook Pro's?!!!
QuadCore anyone? I hope so!

Never, ever again.

In the same vein, though, I do think AppleTV will see a major update, one that will bring its multimedia functionality closer in line with what's available on the Xbox 360.

  • Macbook Pro, update to Mavericks - internet sharing unstable (ethenet - WiFi)

Macbook Pro, update to Mavericks ->internet sharing unstable (ethenet -> WiFi)

Thanks, indeed there's not a lot there.
I was thinking that there might be a network reset option on my Snow Leopard Mac Book, like I've had a to do a time or two on my iOS devices that suddenly stop seeing the internet. Since I didn't know what that is, I set up a clean TEST user account. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to change anything, so perhaps the internet network settings are global. Any ideas how to reset the network settings and clear them out completely?
Hard to believe that there could be something so different between Mavericks and Snow Leopard as far as common network protocols are concerned that allows one to be plug and play and the other to connect to the network but not see the internet. Could it be the hardware? A 2007 MacBook vs. a 2011 MacBook Pro?

  • After macbook pro update 1.0, OS X won't load.

So I just tried to apply the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Update 1.0 to my brand new MBP 15.4 and the screen went black when I pressed restart. Then I got a message stating that the update failed and could not be applied. So, I restarted, got to the login screen, logged in and it seemed like the desktop came up, except I couldn't launch anything. The dock was missing, couldn't figure out how to get it visible, my desktop background was missing, launchpad won't come up or mission control either.
So, figuring a reboot might fix it, I restarted from the apple menu and... nothing. I get to the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinner below it and that's it. It just sits there spinning forever, doing nothing, until I hold down the power button to shut down the MBP. So, I currently have a MBP that doesn't work. What should I do? I need to get this thing working for my job or I am screwed. Someone please assist!

    *Update*
Tried Perform a Safe Boot didn't work.
Tried Reset the NVRAM / PRAM didn't work.

  • Installed MacBook Pro Update 2.0 *Problems Now*

Software update asked to install MacBook Pro Update 2.0 and now my MacBook Pro 13 2.5 i5 16gb Ram fails to wake from sleep when I open the lid, machine also hans with beachballs when tasking the Finder, switching applications, opening and closing them.
I have tried to repaid disk permissions, resetting PRAM, and booting with extentions disabled, the system still exhibiting the same problem.
Anyone have an idea how to get this fixed without wiping the Mac?
Anyone else experiancing this problem ?
    Thanks.

Yes as I mentioned in the first post, I did try that.
Apple told me I would have to ship the computer on my dime ( for the second time ) because they do not offer shipping exchange in Canada.
This is the second time I will have to pay the shipping cost for repairs on this laptop; it basically will have added $125 to the price.
    Really unhappy.
Probably will be my last Mac.

  • MacBook Pro Update 2.0 on MBP15R both HDMI and internal displays go black and useless

I installed MacBook Pro Update 2.0.  When I plug in an HDCP-capable HDMI monitor the MBP15R's screen promptly goes all-black and useless (except for a cursor arrow, which moves but does nothing) and the external display mirrors the same thing.  (The internal screen transitions through an all-blue screen first.)
How do I get my screens back?  MBP15R is mostly useless to me this way.  It worked fine before update 2.0.   How do I get this fixed?

I'm still reluctant to give up on that bricked machine... Since it is able to display part of the boot up messages of the arch install cd and the previously working installation showed everything until loading of the virtual console (at least that's what I believe it did when the screen went black), it looks to me that the problem lies in initializing a different graphical output. That would also explain why I was able to initialize X only with the fbdev driver... and the screen didn't flicker during boot-up when I did radeon.modeset=0 so I assume it stayed on framebuffer mode all along.
Does anyone know of a boot medium that boots into framebuffer video mode even though a GPU is present? All I'd need is a bash or similar shell. I can load into the UEFI shell with arch install CD, but I'm not familiar with that shell and it follows a different syntax than I am used to, as it is designed for an entirely different purpose. If anyone knows a boot medium that does not try to pipe the graphical output through the gpu (or the integrated i915 graphics). Must be something like this around?

  • MacBook Pro Update 2.0 & Minecraft

I installed the new MacBook Pro Update 2.0, everything seems fine except if i press f11 to make MInecraft go full screen my mac crashes, anyone else have this problem?

A solution I've found that seems promising is to (sadly) force Minecraft to use the integrated graphics card instead of the Nvidia.
You can use gfxCardstatus (freeware, open source) to force using the integrated card: http://gfx.io
Of the main indicators that the nvidia card might be the problem was messages like this in the console after a crash going to fullscreen:
    May 25 17:11:03 insert_mac_name_here kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! exception type = 0x1f = Fifo: MMU Error
    May 25 17:11:03 insert_mac_name_here kernel[0]: IOVendorGLContext::ReportGPURestart

    May 25 17:11:03 insert_mac_name_here kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! exception type = 0xd = GR: SW Notify Error
    May 25 17:11:03 insert_mac_name_here kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! exception type = 0xd = GR: SW
    May 25 17:11:19 insert_mac_name_here.local WindowServer[75]: CGXMuxCapture: Released
    May 25 17:11:19 insert_mac_name_here.local WindowServer[75]: Display 0x42803c0 released by conn 0xf88b
This is the sort of thing that is probably up to Mojang to fix, although I'm only seeing the problem playing feed the beast (which requires 1.4.7), and I haven't seen it playing 1.5.2 with the new launcher, so ths might also be the sort of thing that's just fixed by having the latest version.

  • After update to MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Update 2.0 screen start flicking

I've just updated my macbook pro 15" retina with Macbook Air and MacBook Pro Update 2.0 from App store (just this update).
After that, every time it goes on the screen saver or if I close it, I can't get it back on, the screen starts flicking black.
There is no away I can enter the password, even the keyboard is flicking.
I have to force the macbook pro power off and on in order to use it.
    The update is this http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1609
    How can I solve this?

Unfortuantely, right now there appears to be no solution except for restoring from a backup before Update 2.0.
Update 2.0 is a mess - you are lucky if that is the only thing it affects.  See: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20272989#20272989

  • Macbook pro update to 10.7

I would like to update my macbook pro so i am able to use icloud without updating to mountain lion. I cannot seem to find the first update i need which is 10.7, i found 10.7.1 but it tells me i need just plain 10.7 can someone help?

Since there are a number of hardware changes between the 2010 and 2012 MBPros a copy via cloning probably would make a mess. You may be able to make a bootable thumb drive which should allow installation. See links.

  • New macbook pro update to 10.4.8 causes a lot of problems

i got my macbook pro about a week ago. seems to work fine running 10.4.6. then i decided to run software update. it says that it will download the 10.4.8 update. went on with the update. restart took a while - i figured that it was still doing some "internal" stuff... so i waited. after the restart, the problems came. first, it wont shutdown. i get stuck in the blue screen. so i forced shutdown it, then booting would take at least 5 minutes! also, trackpad and keyboard does not respond most of the time.
i archived and install. so i went back to 10.4.6. the problems went away. then i ran software update again - 10.4.8 - then the problems came back! i thought that maybe my installed applications were messing the update, so i decided to do a fresh install - delete all files and install mac os x...
after doing a fresh install, i downloaded 10.4.7 from the apple website. installed it and then downloaded 10.4.8. AND then the problems came back again.
i have been googling this for about 3 days now and still found no answer.
what are your thoughts? any advice?
BTW: i also did a command + option + P + R and made the macbook pro "dong" a couple of times... but still the problems come back when i go to 10.4.8
    PROBLEMS:
    1) takes at least 5 minutes to boot - sometimes does not boot at all. stuck at the bluescreen
    2) trackpad and keyboard gets stuck - until i press the power button then the trackpad and keyboard starts to respond again
    3) does not shutdown - i get stuck on the bluescreen
these problems come even after doing a fresh install and a step-by-step update to 10.4.7 to 10.4.8

nope. since the latest security update came AFTER the 10.4.8 update, i never had the chance to install it because 10.4.8 was giving me major headaches.

  • How do I let other users on my MacBook Pro update apps that I've downloaded?

I recently left a position as an IT at a school district where I was put in charge of all Mac products district wide. Most of the important apps, such as Apple Configurator or Remote Desktop, were downloaded using a district Apple ID, but many of the apps downloaded (regrettably) were through my own personal Apple ID. Is there a way to allow other accounts on the computer to update these apps without my Apple ID and password? If not, is there a way we can at least re-download those apps via the district Apple ID and transfer the data to that one? Running Mac OS 10.8.5 on a mid 2011 MacBook Pro. Thanks in advance for any help.

That's a lot of travel. Hope she's a hottie!!! But I'll skip the poutine. Not one of my favorites. Been to Whistler in the summer, and the skiing isn't all that good. Not enough sand.

  • Late 2011 Macbook Pro Update 10.8.

    Hello, how is everybody haha.
My father came home with a new macbook pro 15 inch retina display latest to come out with the update of 10.8.5
MY macbook pro 15 inch NON-retina was released, according to "About This Mac" was released Late 2011
The software is now Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5
...My mom says that the 10.8.5 software is available for my computer and that i must go to software update. However, when i click software update it only shows one update (java) is available.
Is it even possible to get the latest update on a Macbook pro that will have made 2 years since opening new (2 years old)
Two years old ON Christmas day of 2013

There is no Mountain Lion 10.8.5. The latest version is 10.8.2. The version included on you father's computer will not work on yours. To upgrade your computer to Mountain Lion will require purchasing and downloading Mountain Lion from the App Store using your Apple ID and password.
As far as Lion 10.7.5 is concerned right now there are no other updates other than the Java one.
