MacBook Pro, USB issues after update to OSX 10.9.2

09 MacBook Pro. OSX 10.9.2 . Recently updated.
Flash drives and Go Pro Camera not appearing in Finder or iPhoto for import. However the flash drive appears under, System info/Hardware/USB.
I read about many ideas such as resetting, PRAM, rebooting, etc.... About 5 hours of reading and trial and error last night. Nothing worked.
I do have a battery that needs to be replaced, but my trial and error occurs while plugged in, so there is enough power. This did not begin to happen until I updated OSX.

So far as the Go Pro connectivity, it was an issue on the Go Pro end. In order for the Go Pro to be found, I needed to remove all accesories. iPhoto still does not pick it up, although Finder did.
Flash Drives still not found.
Odd as I remember I used to be able to just plug in a device that had anything to do with pictures or videos and iPhoto would just automatically detect it and ask to import.

That's odd. I assume this is the 5 GHz band, right?
Have you tried changing the router to do auto 20/40?
Have you tried deleting and reconnecting to the wifi network?

  • Macbook pro superdrive issues after 2.1 firmware update

i have the 07 aluminum body macbook pro (non inibody) and after updating to snow leopard the drive started only reading certain disc and cds and spitting others back out. this is bogus because apple does not want to take responsibility in messing up 1000"s of drives they need to fix this issue or replace every drive they messed up with this update.

Wow! You have thousands of drives, all ruined by Snow Leopard?
Or are you just assuming that because you have a problem, everybody else has it too?

  • Brand new macbook pro retina issues after yosmite update

My Macbook pro retina was working fine until I had Mavericks, but after updating to Yosemite the following problems has started.
Touch pad stops responding now and then
    Fails to open launchpad sometimes
    Boot camp wizard is missing
Scrolling doesn't work quite often in Safari
Fan starts running when cpu is cool without load, but fails to run when hot while playing games
    Battery performance is dropped.
    Computer has become comparatively sluggish.
    Doesn't display 'about this mac'.

I did call them and it seems there is no solution except sending it back to them and getting a new one.
This is by far the most strange issue I have seen. Seems more like a hardware issue than software.
Thanks for you suggestion though. I will post an update ones this case gets resolved.

  • Macbook Pro not booting after update. ''Disk Utility can't repair disk''. Help needed!

I have recently updated my macbook pro as I had some pending software updates. I left it to do the job over night and the next day I noticed it was not letting me sign in to my account session as usual.
I restarted the computer and ever since then when I boot it, it just shows the apple grey screen with a bar that loads to about a 3rd and then it turns off again. I have contacted apple but they were unable to help me with this.
So far I have tried to:
    1. Re-install OS X 10.8 - but it says the disk is locked or OS X cannot be installed on Recovery HD.
    2. Verify and Repair the disk and I errors but it cannot fix them. Some are:
                   'invalid leaf count''
                   ''missing thread record''
''incorrect number of file hard links''
                   ''overlapped extent allocation''
and it finally says ''the volume Macintosh HD cannot be repaired'' Error: ''Disk Utility can't repair this disk.. disk, and restore your backed up files.
I would like to know a way to back up my files so that i can completely restore the disk without any data loss as I havent backed up for a while!
If anyone has any solution to this issue it would be much appreciated!

    I just ran the Disk Utility, and cannot very disk. It gives me an error message;
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
    Volume needs repair
and when I run the repair, this is the message:
The volume GERRARD could not be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error
    Repair attempted on 1 volume
1 volume could not be repaired
Prior to running Disk Utility, I have already tried DiskWarrior, and could not repair my disk. Anyway I can fix this problem??? Formatting the disk would be my last option (though I am unsure if it will fix the problem). Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Meanwhile, I will continue to back up my file, and delete unused data and try to run it again.
Thank you all very much for any input.
    Cheers,
    Matt

  • Macbook Pro USB issue

    Hi All;
I saw lots of discussions about USB problem of Macbook Pro, and i tried maybe all suggestions,  i couldnt solve USB issue
I bought my Macbook Pro 13 inc, 500 GB, i5, OS X Lion, 2 days ago and this is my first Mac ...
I cant see my external disk (Philips), Samsung Galaxy S by using USB ports (i tried both USB enterances, but not working).
I checked my Hardware by Apple Hardware Test (extended test done) and it says 'No trouble found'
I checked Utilities and USB devices are not written in the list, only 500 GB SATA disk shown.
I uploaded MacFuse-Tuxera and ntfs-3g-2010 softwares for using USB devices but i cant solve the problem too...
My USB devices are not shown in desktop and utilities lists
How can i solve this problem, my devices work in Windows 7 - PC as usual, but in Macbook Pro, they dont work, please support me. I dont think that it can be hardware problem, Mac is new and devices are ok. Operating systems are different only.
    Thanks, Regards.

I solved the problem about Samsung Galaxy S, now i can connect it by changing settings of GALAXY S.
    Settings>Applications>Development
Than i plug phone to MAC and now i can see my phone on desktop
I checked my PHILIPS external disk, unfortunatelly it is produced for only Windows operating systems, so i cant use it anymore
My MAC has no USB problem, i can use my 3G USB device too, only Philips external disk failed.
    Thanks for your support...

  • New Macbook Pro, Safari crashing after update, every time

I am a fairly new Mac user.  I have had my macbook pro for 4 months.  Three days ago, I got a window popping up that asked if I would like to update now.  I hit ok, went back to making dinner.  A few hours later, i opened safari. It opened to yahoo, i then went to mail, and then hit my facebook bookmark.  Safari froze.  I got the circle thing and it sat like that for 5 minutes.  I finally forced quit and hit the report problem.  It has done the same thing now for 3 days, only now it freezes the minute i hit any any link at all, immediately!!!  I thought it may have something to do with the new Lion thing (i am really a novice) so I bought that and installed it yesterday.  Still same thing.  Firefox works fine.  I am using that now.  Nothing else seems affected other than Safari.  The only add on i have ever put on safari that i know about is lastpass.  i can't even get to my safari pref now b/c it locks up before i can hit it.  I even tried going to apple and redownloading safari.  I don't know how to uninstall and reininstall.  Can anyone help?

The only add on i have ever put on safari that i know about is lastpass.
    That's most likely the glitch.
    Click here >  http://helpdesk.lastpass.com/uninstalling-deleting-lastpass/
If after you uninstall LastPass Safari still crashes, follow the instructions here >  Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues

  • Mid 2010 Macbook Pro (15") - GPUPanic after updating to Mavericks

I started getting this GPUPanic error ever since I updated Mac OS to Mavericks from Snow Leopard and now it keeps crashing very often.
After researching online I found that this macbook did have a manufacturing defect with its logic board
    (reffereing to http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088)
and took to the genius bar at apple store. They ran few test and told me that it's indeed a logic board which failed. Now they suggesting to replace it with a new logic board which costs $310 + tax
as it's out of warranty period and I agrued that that if it was a manufacturing defect(reffering to ablove link) apple should fix it for free of cost even though its not covered under manufacturing warranty period(3 years) while they do repair some older macbook under https://www.apple.com/support/exchange_repair/ programme.
Meanwhile does anyone know any workaround this issue while I take on apple support?

    tejasmarvel,
Apple’s manufacturer’s warranty lasts for one year, not for three years. Their gratis servicing period for this defect was a one-time exception, lasting for three years. What Apple should do or shouldn’t do is beyond the scope of this forum, although we can certainly hold strong opinions on that topic.
You could run gfxCardStatus to avoid switching to the discrete NVIDIA GPU, which is what triggers the defect.

  • I have pluged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like " USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?

I have plugged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like " USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?
if the device I connected have caused this, shouldn't the macbook itself have some type of protection that should prevent this from happening.
because when I took it to an apple certified maintenance shop, the guy said that now it could only run while connected to the power. it won't run on batteries. and that I have to change the motherboard.
can I just replace the damaged part only, would apple consider this as a design issue and they could pay for it, or should I just buy a new motherboard for 800$.
    Help.

    BB1B2,
The problem is in finding a tech shop that will/can do board level repairs on Macs. They are few. And I certainly wouldn't spend $800 on a new logic board - I would replace the computer if I had to pay that much!
You could call around to a few repair shops and see if they feel competent to isolate the problem and do a board level repair - but I'm afraid, in the end, that your search will be futile.
    Sorry,
    Clinton

  • Trying to do a software update, but my macbook pro does nothing after it prompts me to restart

I am trying to do a software update on my Macbook Pro so I can update the new iTunes so I can start using my new iPod. Every time I go through the process of the computer searching for updates and confirming there are software updates, then being prompted to restart my computer, it does nothing. After my Macbook Pro turns on again, nothing pops up and I go into my information and it says I still have the old software. Nothing is prompting me to do the update after I restart my computer, or beforehand for that matter. HELP.

Are you really still running 10.6.2? If Software Update isn't working for you, you may want to try using the 10.6.8 combo update found here -->> http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399.
If that doesn't work, call back...
