MMy MacBook Pro was on my wet carpet for 8 hours on Monday and suffered water damage. Will it recover? I attached pics

Wow that's a lot of corrosion.
This is a full court shot attempt, but here's what I did when my laptop got rained on (granted this is an older secondary MBP so if it failed I had my other one).
Unplug everything.
Remove the logic board.
alcohol (90% +) and a toothbrush
Brush away! focusing on the coroded parts. get the corrosion out.
Clean the goop off the bottom of the case.
There is a SMALL chance that it will work, but that damage looks pretty bad. Was it running while it was wet? More than likely the water get into or underneith the chip set, which is more difficult to clean without knowledge and the right tools. Rossman group seems do a good job at fixing these kinds of things...
However, depending on how old your laptop is it might be more of a better investment in getting a new Macbook (mbair maybe?) then trying to fix it if the toothbrush thing doesn't work. Certainly replacing the logic board itself would fix it but it wouldn't be worth it.

  • Macbook Pro water damaged, have I lost my purchased apps?

A drink got spilt onto my Macbook Pro the other night, for enough time to soak into the keyboard and I'm guessing damaging the internal harddrive. Unfortunately nothing was backed up but the good news is I have accidental damage insurance. Is there any way I can retrieve the internal harddrive before sending it for repair/replacement and more importantly, will I be able to retrieve anything I purchased on my Apple account on the replaced Macbook? I had recently bought Final Cut Pro X on my old Mac, costing me £200 and hadn't got round to using it properly so will be absolutely gutted if I've lost that.
Any advise would be really appreciated! I can't seem to book an appointment at the Apple Store as there's never an available one!
    Thanks,
    Niamh

  • HT204347 Do you connect the charger in the MacBook Pro battery damage if using device ?

Do you connect the charger in the MacBook Pro battery damage if using device ?
i am sorry i not good speak english

Provided you are using the correct charger for your Mac (13" have a 65 watt charger, 15" and 17", an 85 watt charger), it has enough capacity to power the computer for normal tasks, and the leftover power can charge the battery at the same time. If you are doing something very intensive, there may not be leftover power, but the Mac will take power from the battery if needed. Once the battery is fully charged, the pilot light in the charger plug will change from orange to green and no further charge will be applied to the battery.
You can use your Mac plugged to the charger with no damage to the battery or the computer.

  • Macbook Pro + Rain = Damage?

    Hi everyone.
I have a macbook pro late 2011 its 13 inches and yesterday i took it to school for a project.
While I was coming back it started to rain. I was walking home and apparently my backpack isnt water proof so I ran
home. I opened my mac and tried to turn it on and  it kept shutting down. I freaked out when I saw water and blew it with a hair dryer and waited for an hour to turn it on Then it made a stange poping sound and turned on. The screen was black but the sleep light turns on like it just woke up from sleep.
It goes like that for a few seconds and then the fan starts to speed up and then I get scared and turn it off.
The fans get really crazy fast. It feels like an im in an airplane.
I dont think that much water got in to it maybe a few drops but still is that enough to damage it completely?
Is it a good sign that its turning on?
Is my computer ruined? Should I wait after i turn it on to see if the fans ever stop?
I really love my macbook and I really want to keep it and I am really worried
Can I fix it? Will apple help me?
    Thank you

To second Ralph, and expand a few points.
Water causes short circuits.  Which would explain the popping sound.
And you applied a blow dryer (directed heat) onto components that are used to heat being taken away by fans.
I am not trying to sound overly-critical.  These are just facts.
Good luck at the Genius Bar.

  • Macbook Pro screen damage - dust melted in

    Hi
I used my Macbook Pro retina intensively and it gets hot. I also use it on location all the time so it's subject to dust. I have a brush and I always make sure thats it's dusted down.
Today I cleaned my screen and noticed that there is what looks like dust particles actually melted into the screen on the area surrounding the trackpad. The par that goes over the trackpad is perfect and it's shap outline can clearly be seen on the screen and the damage outlines it.
When I run my nail over it it feel rough while the area that covers the trackpad is smooth, so too is the area that covers the keyboard. Adding to that I dots from the edges of some of the keys that have done the same thing.
I'm pretty sure this is not normal and this is already my second screen because my first was replaced less that a year ago because of ghosting.
What should I do? Do you think Apple will replace it?

I also use it on location all the time so it's subject to dust.
    What should I do?
For your needs I would think you need to consider switching to getting a Sager 17" 1080 HD anti-glare with Windows 7 instead.
Not only are 3D gamers computers more graphics and CPU powerful, up to 32GB of RAM as well, but they can be opened by the user to clean the dust out of the cooling fins.
They also allow for multiple internal drives etc. for more of a portable workstation purposes.
Apple has been steadily decreasing hardware performance in their portable line, only provides one top end 15" model with more powerful dedicated graphics when last models all 15" had that option.
Also Apple has sealed the newer machines up, so one can't open them and remove the fans to clean the cooling fins.
If the cooling fins are not cleaned often in dusty environments, it greatly shortens the working life of the machine.
Severe dusty environments can be considered a "user inflicted damage" by Apple which isn't covered by AppleCare or warranty, much like liquid spills are also not covered.
My previous 15" was used on many locations in the field, after only a year, when I started experiencing problems and Apple couldn't fix, I took upon myself to open the machine and see the cause of the problem myself.
The coolin fins were half choked up with debris, hindering the exhaust and slowly cooking the video graphics as it's the hottest part of the machine.
Clearing the debris didn't work, the heat damage already occured.
Mac's are designed for lite clean office like uses only, nearly all, except the MacPro, are not designed for heavy duty use and adequate heat removal.

  • Can resetting the SMC on MacBook Pro cause damage to the laptop?

I've reset the SMC on my new MacBook Pro, and are curious as to whether or not doing so is capable of causing damage to the computer and its hardware.

Apple would not publish instructions to do so (or without a warning anyway) if an SMC reset could cause damage.

  • Macbook pro spill damage!!! Estimate??$$$

Hi i have a macbook pro and a while ago (a few months) i spilled lemon juice on my keyboard (i kno how unfortunate it was this). some of the buttons on the right half stick and the "p" doesnt work so ive been copying and pasting it so long its natural to me now lol. Also the right half of the keyboard backlight barely works anymore. I just want an estimate on how much they will charge to make this fixed. Is it worth it ? $$$

    Hi,
With some extra info. you may be able to negotiate the cost.
    - Are the keys the only issue you have?
    - The machine has liquid spillage sensors inside the case in different areas.  They are basically tape which change colour upon contact with liquid.
    - These indicates are used , along with visual inspection by Apple to determine initially how much damage is caused by the spill.
    - Then some diagnostics are run to check whether components are damaged.
Depending on the model of MBP you could run hardware tests / diagnostics which can assist to determine damage.
You have been using the MBP for a few months now but it is unknown whether the damage of the spill will cause a failure at a later date.
Are you outside of the warranty period / AppleCare service?

  • Lifting Macbook Pro 15 Damage?

    Hi,
when i lift my macbook pro 15 from the floor i sometimes grab it and a lot of pressure is exerted on one point of the macbook. Ive got a spec satin case on it.  Wondering if anyone has damaged their macbook this way...  I don't want to mess it up!

New to MBPs ... and I like the "solid metal feel".
But I also feel a *tweensy little* flex always, and generally use two hands always (to limit risk of dropping) on the most solid-feeling part to avoid future problems.  Eventually that will make "wear marks" on those "most solid spots", but I will simply label them "battle scars".
At least that is my plan.

  • MacBook Pro surface damage.

I packed my MacBook Pro (17") in between folded clothes in my suitcase, thinking it would not be damaged. But those who handle the luggage at airports have no mercy, because when I opened my suitcase I started crying. The surface edges of my laptop have dents, and the edges and top are scratched. I had just received it as a gift less than a week before (which was about a month ago as of now).
How would I go about getting this repaired? If I send it back to Apple, could they put it in a new casing?
Yes, it bothers me that much. My loving parents spent big bucks on more disk space and whatnot for me, and I go and get it dented and ugly.
I'm in Korea right now, and as far as I know there is no Apple place anywhere near me (I'm four hours from Seoul).
I'd really love to know what I can do to fix this. Can Apple do something? Would I have to pay the same amount the laptop cost originally, or just around $100 USD for a new casing? I'm a poor college student and the latter is what I hope is the only solution.

There is a place that can help you - I think, - though it will be costly:
For $450 you can have it painted, and it will masque your blemishes:
    http://www.colorwarepc.com/
There is another company that has "stickers" that you can put on, but their website has been down for a month now.
I don't want to sound like a jerk, but I hope this experience has taught you that there is NO replacement for a GOOD laptop bag. It is VERY foolish to put anything valuable in a suitcase, especially a computer. Suitcases get thrown, tossed, dragged, fall off carts, and you're LUCKY there aren't any internal component damages.
Protect your investment, spend at least $100 on a GOOD laptop bag, so you can bring that investment on the airplane with you. Laptops ARE NOT CARGO, and they will not replace it for you.
Also keep in mind that even a suitcase doesn't protect your belongings from the elements, and NO airline carrier will replace electronics that were damaged due to weather within a suitcase. They will tell you that you should have kept your valuables with you.
Sorry for your circumstance, I hope that link above helps. You can also purchase a new topcase which will be just as expensive as the paint service through places like ifixit.com

  • Macbook pro water damege...

Water damage on my mbp. Dried it the best i could. When the chargers in the orange light comes on and just stays orange and when i press the power button the sleep light flickers a little... Is it fully broken or what? Im not sure how to find out what part is broken.. And also the battery meter lights up when i press it but only 2 green dot lights up..

Yes fully broken. Take it to an Apple store to be checked out and an extimate given for repairs. Then make the decision to either repair your current Mac or buy a new computer.

  • 2010 pro water damage

Some water spilled in the bottom of my bag and I didn't notice. When I pulled out my computer, it looked like the sides were wet but when I opened it nothing had gotten on the keyboard or screen and it turned right on so I thought it was fine. After about 10-15 min of use the screen started flickering and I noticed the headphone jack wasn't working. The screen then went black and it started beeping short beeps every 5 seconds or so continuously.
I then turned it off, opened the back cover and disconnected the battery. I held it on its side with the left side ports down because that's where I had noticed it being wet when I took I out of my bag. I took some compressed air and sprayed it behind the logic board downward and water came out the ports onto the table. I let it dry for a little over 24 hours and tried to turn it back on again but it's the same thing. It beeps continuously, which I believe means there's no ram installed. The side battery indicator lights still turn on and when I turn the computer off again after it's been beeping there is a distinct click noise of it powering off.
Is it entirely hopeless or is there anything I can do? Has anyone recovered a computer after similar water damage?

Liquid damage to electronics in a computer is progressive.
You should take the computer to the nearest Apple store and see what can they do to help you.
    Hope for the best.

  • Macbook Pro Superdrive damaged Leopard Install DVD

I purchased OS X Leopard recently and after backing up my data, I did an upgrade installation of Leopard and during the disk verification, the Superdrive emitted a strange buzzing noise and a minute later I received an "Installed Failed" error screen and was prompted to reboot. I rebooted and ejected my Leopard DVD and found a ring of scratches toward the center diameter of the DVD. I decided to try the installation again and skipped the disk verification. It installed Leopard successfully but when I went into the OS and tried to preform certain functions or open certain apps, the Macbook Pro would either freeze, or I'll get the grayed out screen telling me to hold the power button. After that frustration, I just did a HD wipe and did a clean install of 10.4 Tiger. I wish to install Leopard and I also fear my Superdrive failing on me again (since then, I've only had one other disc scratching issue).
If I have to get my superdrive replaced, would I get a replacement Leopard DVD?

    Call & ask Apple.

  • Macbook Pro coffee damage mother board repair

Ok, so the motherboard is fried because of  a coffee spill...soak ...   ... bath. Apple is saying 1250$ to replace the motherboard. Does anyone know of a possible website or maybe a repair shop (Los Angeles) that will repair your motherboard at a resonable price?
    15"
    processor 2.5
16gb ram......(cries*..."why you have to die!")
    750 hard drive

I've had a liquid damaged Macbook repaired by this guy. 13" MB cost me $220.
    But he is in Canada.

  • MBP water damage repairs - Apple store or other?

    Hi,
A small water spill has left several of my keyboard keys not working.
I've backed up etc and am ready to get repaired, but from what I've read it's going to be expensive if done in an Apple store.
Is it worth considering a cheaper independent laptop repair shop?
    Thanks in advance,
    Matt
