Macbook Pro WEAK monitor hinge AFTER apple repair! PLEASE help!

Hey everyone, I am using a 2010 MBP with a 15" hi res display. I had the computer for 3 months with no problems and then the display broke (wouldnt turn on) so apple replaced it. Once they replaced it, i noticed the display was not as strong. To help you all understand this better, let me give you some background information. I am a DJ and music producer and I play at various venues quite often. The problem I am having, is when my computer is on my laptop stand, and the bass hits from the venues sound system, the monitor will wobble down when placed on my laptop stand (http://www.safecomputingtips.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/irizer-laptop-s tand.jpg). This NEVER happened before the display was replaced, nor does it happen on my 13" 2009 MBP. To get a sense of what im talking about, if you watch the end of this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmN9p9z3KgA) it demonstrates how the screen will fall down with just gravity. While no one would ever use a computer like that, while it is on the laptop stand its position is very similar. When he holds the macbook body vertical, it causes the screen to fall down with gravity. Before my macbook was replaced, it NEVER did that. My 2009 MBP has had TONS of wear and tear and doesnt do that. I went into the apple store and tried it on EVERY macbook pro in the store, 13 15 and 17 inch models, NONE of them fell with  gravity. This started happening when i got the screen replaced. I have gone into the apple store and have had the display replaced for weak hinges 2 or 3 times now, and every time i get it back it is no better. My computer was out of repair yesterday, I took it into apple tonight (20 mins ago) and I was told by a manager that this is within "normal" specs for a "normal" user. Which is true, this wouldnt bother anyone who doesnt use a laptop stand and plays in clubs; but i do. He told me there is nothing he can do, and that I would just have to deal with it (of course he said it much nicer). What i dont understand is that I paid 2,800 for a computer that worked PERFECTLY until the screen died, and once it was replaced due to APPLES fault, now i must deal with a problem caused originally by apple. When I DJ with my 2009 model, no problems. My thought process is that maybe because the original screen is not on the unit, the replacement may not be as sturdy because it wasnt built with the unit itself. For example, my 09 mbp has had no replairs and its fine. The models in the store i assume have had no display repairs, and theyre all fine. The manager agreed that my hinge was weaker than the rest of the stores' models, but even though it was weaker it was within "normal specs", and he wouldnt budge. I'm sure a new unit that has been built together will fix this problem, but he would not give me a new unit. Is there ANYTHING I can do to help this? I am going to a different apple store tomorrow and hope the manager is a bit more understanding in the fact that not all apple computers are put through "normal" use and therefore should not be judged with "normal" specs. When my computer was new it NEVER ever ever did this, and I feel like I bought applecare for that exact reason, so that for at least 3 year i have the computer I bought. Any any any help would be greatly appreciated, I am 19 going and paying my way through school and if i didnt have to pay for school I would just say screw it and I would buy another unit, but i cant. Thanks for reading this, i really appreciate it.

Unfortunately, spoke way to early.  The fan issue is still a big problem.  From the second the machine is turned on, the fan cranks up.  Frankly, I think this is overheating the machine to some extent (running the fan at max speeds when it's not even warm).  Additionally, the noise caused by this has only gotten worse, and now it is even making a "whistling sound."  Looks like I'm going to be making the trek to the Genious Bar, but based on comments by others on this issue I am not optimistic about a fix.

  • Macbook Pro Fan Continues Running After download Error -- Please Help so Loud

    Hello,
I recently tried to download the Citrix reciever application onto my Macbook pro. The installation was taking an excessive period of time and it was obvious that something had gone wrong in the download because it had taken several hours and was stuck at a certain step. I tried to cancel the installation but it wouldn't allow me. So I force quit the installation and thought that it was shut down, but I was mistaken. The next time I opened my computer the fan was running at an increased rate and was very loud and the computer was heating up. I tried to restart the computer and it said that the program was still trying to download and that the computer could not be shut down until completed. I got frustrated and basically forced a power down by signing out and holding the power button or something of that nature till it shut down. I waited overnight and then powered it back up but nothing had changed and the fan was still running like crazy but it says the program is not trying to install anymore though. I checked the activity level and CPU but nothing is out of ordinary of high. The program is not anywhere on my computer either so I have no idea what is going on and cannot figure out how to stop this fan running like this. It is draining my battery, overheating my computer and is annoying too.
Any help, hints or ideas would be greatly appreciated or I will be forced to visit the apple store for some help I guess.
    Thanks,

  • Screen stuck on gray, used shift key and my screen appears with MacBook Pro and not the recovery option. Please help

Screen stuck on gray, used shift key and my screen appears with MacBook Pro and not the recovery option. Please help!

    Hi ..
Shift key boots into Safe Mode, not Recovery.
This only works on a Mac running v10.7 Lion or later.
Startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to access the built in utilities to repair the startup disk and restore OS X using OS X Recovery
If you can't boot into Recovery Mode, help here >   Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup

Theres almost a trick to it for first time users, goto SETTINGS...General......Cellular (if Verizon) ....Personal Hotspot, turn it on.....turn on wifi on your Mac, select your Iphone.  Enter password.
If you take too long doing it, youll need turn turn off and on real quick the "personal hotspot" slider on the Phone.......then go quick again thur the Mac.

  • Macbook pro still freezing after insurance repair, please help me

Hi there I got water damage on my 2012 MacBook pro, and my insurance covered it, so I got the logic board, adapter and keyboard  replaced. When it returned the computer kept freezing on start-up and I have to turn it off at the power button every time! Sometimes I can login and boot up
but it will randomly freeze at any point.
I sent it back to the insurance company who repaired it and they came back to me saying the technicians were unable to diagnose it
and that all the hardware had been checked and is running fine, so they told me to contact my supplier because its the software
that is at fault, however I didn't have these problems before I damaged my MacBook.
Could it be the software or the hardware, they are both sending me on a goose chase between them and I have a dissertation to do for September!
Please if anyone knows something that I can do to repair it, I have done disk utilities and that's coming up clean.
    Thanks Sloth

Thank you Csound1 for the reply, No I haven't I will try this later!
I asked because there are so many other people who ask questions for help on Apple discussions, and there is always lots
of helpful replies, and I only expected some advice on what I could do to resolve the issue if it is indeed a software problem, as there are lots of knowledgeable people on here, because the technicians at the repair company have no solution.

  • Macbook Pro running slow and freezing...please help?

Hi there everyone. I have a Macbook Pro that's a few years old and it started to experience some slowdown and freezing recently, which was even worse after installing Yosemite. It's mostly running slow on Safari but it seems that programs are freezing and taking way longer to open and close too. I'm not all that familiar with diagnosing these sorts of issues on Macs and was hopeful that someone could take a look at this for me? This is the EtreCheck report, and any help would be much appreciated! Thanks guys.

  • My brand new 13" MacBook Pro is taking FOREVER to start up - Please help!

Hi, I'm the proud owner of a new aluminium 13" MacBook Pro. It is running perfectly and I'm very happy with it.
My issue is that when I start the machine after shutdown it is taking 2-3 minutes to load up the desktop, usually showing a blue screen and the mouse pointer the entire time.
I turned off automatic login in and when I did, the password and username screen came on in good time, so it is something about my account that is slowing it down.
I've run Onyx, reset the PRAM and followed all sorts of tips from this forum, but nothing has worked.
    Please help if you can!

Well we have made plenty of suggestions with in this thread and it appears as if you know your way around a computer, so I see a few options in your near future.
1st option - Your computer is under a 14 day return policy, so you can take it back and exchange if you'd like, but they may charge a restocking fee. This is an extreme option for this problem.
2nd option - Call Apple Care, you get free support off the bat and if you have not purchased the 3 year Apple Care I would highly recommend that. Call them and they "WILL" help you fix the problem. Best option!
3rd option - Everyone should have a bootable system backup (and I do not mean Time Machine). So if I may suggest that you purchase a good external firewire or USB drive that you can load OSX on and boot externally. This will help you in troubleshooting now and in the future. After you get the problem resolved you can get SuperDuper (free) and create a total bootable backup up of your system.
4th option - Don't shutdown the Mac! This may sound funny but you really never have any reason to shutdown a Mac. The only time I shutdown any of my Macs is after a software update reboot is required and I may shutdown, If I am having issues with a Mac I may shutdown and restart (maybe three times in 7 years), and lastly if you are traveling and will be away from AC power for a good length of time then you may wish to shutdown. Other than that just shut the lid!!!

  • Downloaded Downlite to my MacBook Pro without knowing it was harmful. Please help?

    Hey everyone,
This is my first post to the Apple Support Communitites. I have just downloaded the program "Downlite" to my MacBook Pro to download Rosetta Stone.
I know, I was not supposed to do this. I had heard of others doing this with ease and was stupid and tried. Now, a popup from www.myvdrive.com pops up every time I am on Safari. There are also bogus ads when I am searching anything on Google. I have since switched to Mozilla Firefox, but would like my Safari to operate normally.
Can anyone please help? I am awful with computers and have no idea what to do. Thank you so much in advance for any recommendations!
    -beesont

You may have installed the "DownLite" adware, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
After moving all the files, restart and empty the Trash.
This unwanted program is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Spring 2010 MacBook Pro makes a beautiful paper weight.  Please help.

I've had my very first Mac, a 15-inch MacBook Pro, for about 6 months. I baby it. It's never been dropped. Nothing has ever been spilled on it. I've never run into any problems.
That is until last night. Right before I shut down my MacBook for the night I was prompted to install updates with required restart. I agreed to the updates. I went downstairs to do laundry, and when I came back about 10 minutes later, my MacBook reported that the update had failed. It prompted me to restart and I complied. Now, at startup my computer gets no further than the white apple screen. A loading bar appears at the bottom. It loads to about 5%, fails, and tries a second time. The gear graphic will spin for hours if allowed. The fan runs very high. I've tried every quick fix I've come across online. I ran Disk Utility from the OS installation disk, and it says that my hard drive must be erased and reformatted.
    First things first, what happened?
Second, is there any hope for my files? I have at least one month's worth of stuff that I hadn't gotten around to backing up yet. I've read about transferring files through Target Disk Mode but the only computers I have available to me are two PCs, one running Windows XP and the other running Windows 7.
Last, where do I go from here? How do I get the repair process started?
    Thank you so very much!

Since your MBP will start and run from an OS install disk the hardware is probably OK. A top line disk utility program is DiskWarrior which comes on a startup DVD and can do wonders. It is usually sold in Apple stores, so you might want to check it out for future use.
A neat thing you can do is put a startup OSX systen and repair utilities on a SD card or thumb drive to handle such problems as you are experiencing. I have one with Tech Tool pro, DiskWarrior, Drive genius as well as Disk Utility installed to cover most problems. See this link:

  • My MacBook Pro isn't running well, can someone please help?

Hi! I Purchased my MacBook Pro new about four months ago. It has worked fine until roughly two weeks ago when it suddenly started running slowly. It went from taking a few minutes to start up to over twenty. When I type, the screen is non-responsive even though I'm hitting keys, and will fill in two or three lines at once before ceasing to work again. Every application I I try to open gives me the spinning wheel for about ten minutes before opening a window, and then every time I click on something, the spinning wheel reappears and it takes about two to three minutes for my laptop to respond. This happens with every application I open and with everything I click on. Even if I only use my laptop for a short period of time, it overheats and the battery drains rapidly (For example, I've been on it for about an hour now and it's gone from 100% to 58%). There are a few other things going on, but my laptop has basically been made unusable, which is horrible since I'm at college and need to use it for everyday schoolwork. If someone can please help me, that would be fantastic.
Just as a disclaimer: Microsoft Word usage is at 100% because I'm trying to copy and paste a quote into a paper I'm writing. The app has been non-responsive for fifteen minutes and still hasn't pasted the quote, if that gives you any indication of how severe this situation is.

I do not know about Disk Warrior but if you have a compatible OSX on an external HDD you certainly can boot the MBP.  Use startup manager:

  • Macbook pro 15" mid 2009 model display "freeze", please help!!!

I have a Macbook pro 15" mid 2009 model which all of a sudden startet "freezing" everytime i restart it, opens spesific programs, etc, and it is really starting to bug me! Sometimes it takes me 15 minutes to start the computer, and then freezes for another 5 minutes when i try to start i.e word.
I currently have the Mac OS X 10.6.8 (snow leopard).
Could this be fixed by a software update of some sort? If not, how can i fix it (if possible at all)?
    Thanks!

You have provided some good basic information, but I'll need more in order to address our question.
    1. When did you notice this problem? Relatively recently, or have you been having this problem for a while?
    2. Can you correlate the problem with the installation of new software? Which software?
    3. How much RAM do you have? If it's 2gb, that's probably not enough - 4gb is ideal for your unit.
    4. Do you update your MBP with software update? Have you updated your browser and plugins?
    5. Have you cleaned your MBP? Recently, an increasing amount of users have seen improvement by getting dust from your unit.
    6. What programs cause you to freeze, or this happen with all applications? What happens when you notice the freeze? Do you see a spinning wheel? Does the display freeze? Be as specfic as possible.
I realize this is a detailed homework assignment, but answer as completely as you can. This is an answer to your issue - it's just a matter of narrowing things down.
    Post in this thread!

  • MacBook Pro "restore"  I lost very important documents - please help!

Hello! I recently did a restore on my MacBook Pro- that was not smart as I have now lost a ton of documents and I really need those back. I should have icloud and I have time machine.  Please tell me if those documents are out there and how I can retrieve them?  I would be happy to go back to the status I was a few days ago before the restore.
I did the restore due to some internet connection issues.
Are the docuements in my time machine?  Sorry!! I dont speak Mac very well!
    Thank you for the advice.

    Hi RHarney,
If you backed up your documents on an external hard drive via time machine then all you have to do is hookup your external hard drive and turn your time machine on.
Just follow these steps on this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akfp3MtyFCY
