Macbook Pro weird boot problems

Hello!
I have a macbook Pro (late 2012) with OS X Yosemite (latest update) and I have some weird stuff going on in it...
2 days ago, I was using normally it, as I use it for work, when it suddenly freezes (never happened before). when i turn it on again, a empty symbol shows instead of the grey apple until i turn it off.
then, when i opened the recovery mode to see if my HD was damaged or something, it just do not shows my HDD at all to verify for integrity. I trun it off and let it be.
After several hours later, i decided to try to boot it again, and, for my surprise, it boots normally and all my files are normal. But after 10-15 minutes backing up all my important files to cloud services, it begins to be really slow. The spinning disk is shown even when i tried to close a finder window, move simple pages files or even to open the top menu to shut it down. The weird part is going even crazier: when i put a freezing gel (a gel packet that freezes and thaw without water is involved) under the macbook, the slowness is off and it works almost at normal speed. when the freezing effect is off, the slowleness is back
All this parts repeats very often.. sometimes the empty symbol appears when booting, sometimes it boots normally and after several minutes it becomes really slow. I tried to diagnose if a hardware problem was involved (pressing "D" after pushing the power button), but no problems were found at all.
what is going on? do you guys even had this? I hope it´s not the logic board!
(Sorry for my bad english)

The startup drive is failing, or there is some other internal hardware fault.
Back up all data on the drive immediately if you don't already have a current backup. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • My MacBook Pro has booting Problems, Light keeps on Blinking. What to do?

My MACBOOK PRO (Early 2011) is having booting problems. It doesnt want to be shut off. If I do shut it off it would take an hour for it to boot. The light keeps on blinking when i push the on button. After a few times of pushing the button and the blinking light the light keeps steady and the MACBOOK PRO seems to be turning on . A Whirring noise/ sound can be heard. I then turn it off and push the ON Button again and the MACBOOK PRO finally boots. The problem repeats again when i turn the unit off.
I already had it checked by APPLE but they said they cannot find anything wrong with it!! Any help will be highly appreciated.

Shut the machine down by holding the power button until the computer is off.
    Release the power button.
Reset the parameter RAM by powering up the machine then holding the key combination:
    <COMMAND> + <OPTION> + p + r   until you hear the restart chime three times
Then perform a SMC Reset by following this procedure from Apple:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Lastly,
If you are running 10.5.4 as shown in your details... Boot to the System install disk
and select the language then select the menu item "Utilities > Disk Utilities"
repair permissions and repair the disk using the repair tool

  • KT6V Weird boot problems

    Hi..
I'm having this weird boot problem (and no it doesn't seem to be the standard one)
    OK..
    I have the following :
    AMD Athlon 2000+
    KT6V LSR mainboard
    2x 256 Crucial PC2700 memory
    IDE Hard Disk (120gb segate)
    Creative 5700ultra Graphics card (AGP)
    Cd Rom
    Chieftec 400w PSU
    WinXP Pro
If I set my CPU FSB to 100mhz (everything else on auto).. win Xp pro boots fine and all is pretty good except that my chip is now seen as a lowly 1.25ghz..
If I then set my CPU FSB to 133 or 166 then the machine boots (ie it beeps etc..).. starts to load windows xp (I get the logo and that's when the problem happens)  and either black screens (ie.. nothing and the monitor turns off) or blue screens with the windows message saying that windows has detected a hardware fault and has halted the system..
I know my memory, chip, heatsink etc all work because just over an hour ago they all worked fine in my KT3 ultra.
What is going on as I've tried almost everything to try and solve this, with the only option to set the FSb to 100mhz which is incorrect for my CPU.
    How do I fix this.
I've looked through the forum but this is not the same problem as simple reboots.. this is weird.
If I can't fix this then I guess it'll be send it back.. which is a shame because I like MSi motherboards.
    Thanks
    Slippery

    Hi..
I've checked the CPU heatsink.. and nothings wrong !
(Can't check the voltage but I know the PSU is Ok as I did run it in a custom case with 4 Cd writters, 4 HDs, loads of lights etc.. before I moved to this new plain case tonight)
What's weird is that set at 100FSb it's fine but at 133 or 166 it just crashes after the loading XP logo is displayed. Up until that point it's all fine.
But why does it run Ok at 100mhz and not 133mhz ?
Please help..  before I end up fixing this with a hammer !
    Thanks

  • My macbook pro only boot from external drive

Hi, my macbook pro had a problem, some day way extremely slow, and i restarted it, when it was booting  the little apple turned into a a circle with a slide cros and then into a folder ... and then into the apple.. and so.. many times... i tried to start in text mode.. and it said fail loading kernel..
and i tried everythin but couldnt make it work... until i extracted my hard drive, and plugged it  in the same macbook pro using a usb adapter... and it worked....  does anyone knows what the **** is going on??.. and how can i fix it.. is a middle 20009

Did you run fsck while booted into single user/verbose mode?
    Run Repair Disk:
First check the S.M.A.R.T.status on your HD: Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > in thepanel at left, select the first item in the list/your HD mechanism > look atthe bottom of the main window next to S.M.A.R.T. status and see if it says“Verified” or something more ominous like “Failing.”
If S.M.A.R.T.status is "Verified," run Repair Disk: Boot from install disc (insertdisc > restart > immediately hold down c key and keep holding it untilyou see “Preparing Installation”) > at first screen select the language andclick Continue > click on the Utilities Menu in the menu bar > open DiskUtility > select your HD in the panel on the left side> click Repair Diskat bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until itsays “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need astronger utility such as DiskWarrior or if the directory is damaged beyondrepair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD (repairutilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself). Whenthis is finished, quit Disk Utility, quit the installer, and restart. Oncebooted normally, go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and runRepair Permissions.

  • Can I set up my Macbook Pro to boot to Win 7 from an external drive?

Rather than partition my internal drive for having to work with Windows & Office 2010 (specifically Access 2010) can I set up my macbook pro to boot to Win 7 from an external drive?

No, not with Boot Camp. I've never even tried it with a VM (which I use) - I keep all the data on my internal drive. I'm not saying that it couldn't be done with a VM, I've just never tried it.

  • Cannot install Windows XP Professional on my MacBook Pro using Boot Camp.

Cannot install Windows XP Professional on my MacBook Pro using Boot Camp. When I get to the point of inserting the Windows disc and clicking 'Install' at the Boot Camp Assistant screen, it keeps telling me that it cannot find the Install Disc. The installation disc I am using is a new full install disc. I have tried to do the same thing using a Windows 7 disc with the same results. Does anyone have any answers. I am getting desperate!

Perhaps you could offer a suggestion then.

    Some clarification may help.
You say you cannot boot normally.  It shows a gray screen with the Apple logo.
Did you say it will boot successfully in Safe Mode (boot, then hold down the Shift key)?
How did you boot the machine to run Disk Utility?  (Which keyboard combinations)?

  • Macbook pro touchpad/curser problems.

macbook pro touchpad curser problems.  typing randomly jumps to wherever the curser is resting at the time.  unbelievably maddening.  multiple devices same all have same problem.  hard to believe we cannot find anything on the apple site about this.  MANY complaints outside of this site on this issue... clearly a touchpad/battery design flaw being ignored by Cupertino.  during the writing of this post, the curser jumped randomly and started typing in a different location six times.  IMPOSSIBLE to use as a word processor since typing becomes quite frustrating.  HELP.  any ideas?  Fanboy and shareholder.  three macbook pros in the house...all the same problem. (please do not offer separate keyboard as solution...this is a laptop, not a Surface Pro...)

Go step by step and test.
    1. Restart
    2. Shut down the computer.
Clean the trackpad with moist not wet microfiber cloth.

  • 2012 MacBook Pro Intel i7 (purchased May 2013) constantly drops airport connection. My 2006 MacBook Pro has no problems connecting and staying connected.

I received a 2012 MacBook Pro INtel i7 for my birthday this May 2013. It constantly drops my airport connection. My ancient 2006 MacBook Pro has no problem connecting to airport, nor staying connected. I've had to write this message several times as I keep losing the airport connection and have to reconnect. BTW: I am less than five feet from the airport base.
    Thanks for help.

After trying all of the above the suggestions, the problem returned as before. However, after digging some more I discovered that the issue appears to lie with the 10.4.10 version of the Mac OS; when I checked the software log under the system profiler I noticed that I had installed that update at about the time my Airport problems began. Apple then quietly released a v 1.1 combo update to 10.4.10 on July 2nd, which once installed appears to have resolved the problem. You can find the download at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10410comboupdatev11intel.html
What's curious is that originally Apple listed that the v 1.1 combo update resolved some issues with RAW image data, and some sound problems, which don't seem to have anything to do with Airport.

  • Macbook Pro not booting up all the way, weird problems

Last night I was using my Macbook Pro, closed the lid then came back later and when I opened the lid it wouldn't wake back up. Shut it down by holding the power button, then tried booting it back up. You can hear the CD/DVD drive spin up, (got my copy of X-Plane in there) but nothing else happens. Keyboard backlights never turn on, display stays dark, and the sleep light never lights up all the way either, just stays dim. Leave it for a few minutes, then close the lid and the sleep light gets bright like the computer is awake, and you can still here it running.
Sounds like classic SMC issues right? Well tried resetting that several times, no luck. Reset the PRAM while I was at it as well, no luck. Really not sure what's wrong now.
Macbook Pro was purchased spring '08, can't remember all the specs off the top of my head but it was the top-of-the line processor, 2-gig of ram, the nvidia 8600 video card. I've heard that there have been some issues with that card however I'm not yet convinced that this is a video issue. Software update ran just a few days ago, so I'm running whatever the latest version of mac os X is. (10.5.??)

Here's a link to the NVIDIA program:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
There is a specific test they run to diagnose this problem. If it pulls the right error code, you get a free logic board replacement. Print out a copy of the article and take it along--oddly enough, there are still a few Apple guys that don't seem to be familiar with this program.
So far I have not experienced the NVIDIA problem myself, but I have read a number of posts about it. Some people have reported multiple problems--some so severe that their Mac won't boot up enough to run the test. However, since your Mac sounds unusable the way it is, you may as well make an appointment at the genius bar and see if you qualify for a replacement logic board. That could cure many things.
    Good luck!
