Macbook Pro Wifi Issues with WPA2 Enterprise key

I have a MBP 13" mid 2009 model. There is usually no problems connecting to home networks. It remembers the passwords and connected seamlessly. However, I have problems connecting to networks with WPA2 Enterprise settings. I had tried it in NYU and I am trying it at my current school too. It keeps forgetting the WPA2 key from time to time and although I have tried all ways to get it to remember the key it still fails. I have used other MBP from the same time frame and they seem to be working perfectly. Even my iPod touch works perfectly with these WPA2 enterprise networks. Can anyone suggest a workaround?

The networks do support WPA2. It works perfectly on windows 7 and other MBPs. There it doesn't keep asking the password and stores the password in keychain. But on my MBP it keeps asking me for the password from time to time

  • Macbook Pro Wifi Issue

I incorrectly posted this in the wrong thread this morning.
I'm hopeful you might be able to help me diagnose a problem I'm having. I'll provide as much detail as possible.
I have a first generation MacBook Pro. As of this morning I was running 10.5.6 and up until this week was using a linksys router and a comcast cable modem.
I used to have a great wifi signal throughout the house (always full strength), and around 12-18 months ago noticed the signal would weaken. The best I would get would be minus the top bar on the signal, and usually only if I was directly above or next to the room with the router. There were no new phones or devices added that might adjust the signal. On the other side of the house, I would have no signal at all.
My wife has a nine year old ibook and has no issues connecting through wifi.
When I bring my laptop to her parents' house or to the Apple store, where they use Belkin on N or Airport Extreme, I get a full signal.
I've recently suffered a hard drive failure and had a replacement drive installed. The problem persists despite the software update.
Not knowing if it was a router issue or an airport card issue or a combination thereof, I went to the Genius Bar. The genius recommended I upgrade my router to Airport Extreme, and if that doesn't work to return it and he'd focus on the airport card or antenna. I could get the flat rate repair (no AppleCare at this point) for $320+ to repair the problem if Extreme didn't work.
I installed the Airport Extreme router and got a full signal in the basement, far side of the house, upstairs - everywhere. Until around 10pm. The signal died from the basement. If I walked into the room with the Airport Extreme router, I'd get a full signal. If I left the room, I'd get a partial signal. If I walked any distance (10-12 feet), the signal would die. I restarted both the modem and router with no change. I reinstalled the linksys router and got a depreciated connection. I restarted the Airport Extreme again and got a full signal throughout the night, morning, through restarts, and when I returned home from work.
Last evening after using youtube extensively it died again. Linksys would barely work if I switched back, and no matter how many times I restarted I couldn't get the signal to last outside of the area of the router. I left it in the basement overnight shut down, restarted this morning, and had a full signal.
I'm looking for any potential guesses as to what may be causing the problem. I don't want to replace the card if it's the antenna or sink too much cash into a machine if it's a heat related issue linked to Generation 1 syndrome.
During all of this the ten year old ibook works fine. I know a lot of macbook pros have issues with their wireless and don't want to sink in the cash if it's more complex than that. Any advice is much appreciated!

    Hi nashie1002,
If you are having issues connecting to your WPA2 WiFi network after a recent update, you may find the troubleshooting steps and settings in the following articles helpful:
Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628

iOS and OS X: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

It may also be worth doing a search for the specific model number of your router to see if anyone has noted any issues with Mavericks.

  • Macbook Pro Retina issues with Wifi Speeds

I have one of the new Macbook Pro 15" Retina models and have been having issues with Wifi Speeds.  Apple has replaced the computer but have the same issue with the new one.  When doing a side-by-side comparison with older Macbook Pros and PC's I'm seeing around a 10 megabytes per second difference.  Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

So an update on what I've found.  After testing two different MBP Retna's basically hourly for 4 weeks I found a few interesting things, but ultimately resolved my issue.  The first thing I found consistently between both MBP Retina's both on my network and in the Apple store on their network was the first thunderbolt port closes to the screen is slower than if you try to use the LAN cable adapter on the second port. I saw about 10 GBps between the two ports.  The second thing i found was these new MBP Retina's aren't really compatible with older Apple networking technology. I have a single band Airport Express and a single band Time Capsule.  Using either router they only worked on the 2.4 5Ghz setting and even with that the speeds constantly fluxuated. Most times I got between 2 - 10 GBps.  After hours of troubleshooting it was recommended to update either my Time Capsule or Airport Express to one of the newer dual bands, which I did.  After purchasing and setting up a new dual band Airport Express and spliting the networks to have one band constantly on the 2.4 5Ghz setting and the other set to automatic both with differing network id's this solved my problem.  I now consistently see download speeds of around 35GBps and upload around 6GBps.  So connecting the dots and drawing logical conclusion, these new MBP Retinas are really only compatible with newer dual band Time Capsules or Airports.  Even though my single band was also set to 2.4 5Ghz, the same as the dedicated network used now on my dual band Airport Express, this MBP Retina had issues maintaining WiFi speeds.

  • Macbook Pro video issue with multiple Monitors and Powerpoint 2011

    Hello all,
I have a major issue that is perplexing me. Whenever I hook up a second monitor or projector to my Macbook Pro 15" Early 2010 and launch a Powerpoint slideshow I lose video on both systems immediately and can only recover with a reboot. This is fully reproducable. It doesn't matter if I'm using the mini Display Port to DVI or VGA adapter, same results. Same results with monitors, TVs, or external projectors. I only experience this issue in MS Powerpoint 2011, no other applications. I have 8GB of Ram and a 2.66GHZ i7. It doesn't matter what my resolution is set to, same issue. I will post two error reports below for additional details.
    Thank you for the help,
    Eric

I "fixed" it, I did a fresh install and restore and that power point issue is gone.  It works now without crashing but I am using Snow Leopard 10.6.4 now instead of 10.6.7.  I'm going to update and see what happens.

  • Macbook Pro (retina) issues with Windows 8

on MacbookPro (retina), running Windows 8 over Boot Camp, attempt to run Boot Camp Control Panel results in error message related with lack of administrative privileges to access the startup disk settings. Also, FaceTime HD camera is not available and some trackpad gestures (two finger press and two finger swipe) occasionally fail.

I installed Windows 8 Pro on my MBP Retina yesterday with only minor problems.
    - Bootcamp incorrectly formatted the partition, which was easy to fix in the install process.
    - Wifi was extremelly slow to connect, so much so that I resulted to seaching google to see if something major was wrong with my installation
    - Scrolling was overly sensitive to the point where using the arrows was much for satisyfing
Other than that, the USB stick of course came bundled with the support which sets itself up (at least it did for me). Keyboard functions (media controls, volume, brightness, etc) and all the extra dongles (wifi [eventually], bluetooth, etc) work. I also hope to see drivers for swiping and improved scrolling in the future...would be really helpful considering the laptop cost in excess of 2.5 grand.
I don't have any answer for when support will be coming, but I'm sure you can count on this forum post for when it will be...your question was result #1 for me on Google search.

  • Retina MacBook Pro Wifi Issues

Hey guys, I just got my rMBP today and the wifi is terrible on it. I have the 2.6, 16gb, 256gb ssd model with mountain lion. For some odd reason, when I'm at home my wifi connection constantly drops. I'm using a cisco WAP4410N AP, if that helps at all. I called apple but they weren't of much help. I also tested wifi at a relative's house, and, for some reason, it worked perfectly for the hour and half I used it. At home, even when I restart my modem, router, and ap, I can only get a max of 15 minutes before the connection drops. WiFi works perfectly on every single other device I have (Android phone, iPhones, tablet, other laptops), and I've tried switching wireless channels and broadcast type settings to no avail. I've deleted all the AirPort preference files (as the apple rep asked me to) and booted in recovery mode, and nothing occurred. I think of myself as being tech savvy, and I am confused as **** right now.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Krad

    Well, give this a shot:
    1) Go to: http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/release.html?mdfid=282414137&softwareid=2824 63166&release=2.0.5.3&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest&i=rm
    2) Download the 2.0.5.3 firmware
    3) Open your access point's configuration page. I'm not sure what your gateway is, since I had to modify mine to match my network. The default should be 192.168.1.245, with the username as admin and password as admin. If you haven't changed any of the default settings, you'll have to connect through ethernet, as the AP doesn't allow you to configure over WiFi out of the box.
    4) Click the administration tab, and you should see firmware upgrade under that.
    5) Upload the new firmware file, and click upgrade. It takes a few minutes so just wait for the AP to restart on its own.
    Hope this helps!

  • Macbook Pro Retina issues with adobe flash

I just updated adobe flash to  11.7.700.225 and now I'm having issues it doesn't matter what browser it is, Safari, Firefox, or chrome, that certain sites, such as facebook and instagram it'll give me an error, like it's not safe or something. It was fine earlier today before I updated flash and now I'm having issues, and I'll have to remove the cookies for any of these sites and it's constantly annoying, I was wondering if anyone else is having these issues.

Nope!  Can't say that I have.  Besides, it doesn't make a difference if anyone is experiencing this problem.  The important thing is that it is happening to you.
Where did you update FP from?  Also, did you do the following?Adobe strongly recommends that you first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
Follow the instructions closely, such as quitting ALL applications first before installing.  Repair permissions and restart your computer after the installation is completed.

  • MacBook Pro now works with wireless encryption

I am offering my two cents. After spending a morning on the phone with TDS and part of the afternoon with apple yesterday, today I finally have my MacBook Pro talking wireless with an encryption key.
My MBP would connect without an encryption key but would not with an encrytion key. The MBP is 2.16GHz model, with 10.4.9 plus all updates; the GW is an Actiontec GT704-WG.
My original encryption key which did not work was 128bit key 112233445566778899aabbccdd. When this key was in the router and entered onto the MBP it would not connect.
When I changed to 64bit encryption and entered an ASCII ABCDE on the router, then on the MBP entered a 64bit key of 4142434445 (the equivalent hexcodes), everything connected.
I have not tried this method with a 128 bit encryption key.
I hope this helps those who can connect without encryption but not with encryption.

iCloud technically starts working with Lion, but I recommend Mavericks, because it is a free upgrade (and a more recent one).

  • I keep getting kicked off of my wifi with my MacBook Pro but not with my IPAD?

I keep getting kicked off of my wifi with my MacBook Pro but not with my IPAD, what do I do?

    Hi, mmayers.
Sometimes a simple power cycle of the router can correct the issue that you are experiencing.  However, the issue could be a little more complex.  Wi-Fi routers need adjustments to settings periodically for optimized performance with the constant progression of wireless device technology.  Below, I have included two articles.  The first article will cover basic Wi-Fi troubleshooting.  The second article covers the recommended settings for current Wi-Fi access points.

  • HT201257 Hi -- I have a late 2011 13" macbook pro that shipped with and runs Lion. Unfortunately, I do not have the install disks with me. Holding down D key does nothing. What can I do?

How can I run the hardware test on a macbook pro that SHIPPED with lion (never had an earlier OS) without access to the install disks? I am away from them and home for several months. Holding down the D key does nothing.

Press "Option" and "D" key together.
"Restart your computer, holding down the “D” key while the computer restarts. After your computer restarts, you should see the Apple Hardware Test chooser screen. If you don’t, Apple Hardware Test may not be available on your computer. You may be able to start Apple Hardware Test from the Internet. Reconnect your computer to the network, and then restart your computer while holding down both the Option and “D” keys."

The purpose of this discussion thread is to:
    (1) Get community thoughts around using alternative and complimentary mousing approaches with MacBooks
    (2) To share a current and searchable set of resources for those interested in leveraging a best-of-both-worlds approach for using a non-Apple Trackpoint Keyboard with an Apple MacBook.
    (3) To level-set the fact that a Thinkpad Trackpoint USB Keyboard works with MacBooks automatically and instantly out-of-the-box.
Note: I created this discussion because I found that all the other discussion threads related to using a Thinkpad Trackpoint Keyboard with MacBooks were archived and therefore I could not post my thoughts there.
I have been using MacBooks for 3+ years now.  Airs, Pros, Retinas etc.  I LOVE the built-in MacBook Apple Trackpad.  It is wonderful.  Apple has no equal as far as Trackpads go.
In addition, I have been using the Thinkpad Trackpoint USB Keyboard with my MacBooks for ~2 years, and below is why I have found BOTH the Apple Trackpad and Thinkpad Trackpoint to be great.
The Trackpoint and Trackpad both have their sweet spots.  Personally I use the built-in Apple Trackpad on my MacBooks when I'm using my MacBook for less than 1 hour, loosely speaking.  If I am going to be heads-down for more than 1 hr writing, reading, surfing, graphic designing, programming, workshop facilitating, teaching, mindmapping, presenting, demoing, etc. then I pull out my "Lenovo Thinkpad USB Keyboard with Trackpoint (55Y9003) > https://www.google.com/search?&q=lenovo+thinkpad+trackpoint+usb+keyboard
I know many will laugh at me for using a Thinkpad Trackpoint Keyboard with a MacBook...  Keeping an open mind, let's just agree that there is historical precedence for alternative mousing devices.  If I could only choose one, I would use the Apple MacBook built-in Trackpad exclusively, however with alternatives come potential benefits.  Keep in mind that Apple, Microsoft, Logitech and many other companies make millions of dollars each year providing alternative peripheral devices for computers, and mousing is no exception.  Regardless, I just want to share my positive experiences using both. :-)
Why should you care?  For *some* people the following is true and meaningful.  The Trackpoint (the little red eraser head stick thingy) in the midle of the keyboard enables useful and unique dynamics/use-cases, including:
You don't have to take your hand(s) off the keyboard to mouse
You can independantly click without accidentally moving the mouse (Yes I know some people don't have issues with this)
You don't run out of finger-gesture runway when you're moving your mouse across the screen (I know this is a gray area for some people)
For mouse-movement-heavy applications (e.g. Graphics, drawing, etc.) the Trackpoint *is at times* more exacting
Below I share some pictures (which I know *look* ridiculous to some people, but none-the-less help demystify what this looks like.  And, while ridiculous looking, it is actually quite thin and elegant once you get over the initial shock of seeing these two diverse technologies combined in this way.
Rest assured, the keyboard shown below (google "55Y9003") is VERY light, thin and fits in almost any laptop case/backpack easily so it is not a big deal to carry it, if you work on-the-go.  In addition:
It is UNCANNY how well it fits on top of the keyboard space of all MacBooks.
It fits perfectly around the corners of the MacBook Pro/Air/Retina keyboard
Note: I took one of the 5 rubber feet/pads off the bottom of my keyboard, the one in the middle
Lastly, you can actually use the built-in Apple Trackpad at the SAME TIME as the Trackpoint Keyboard.
It is quite a nice best-of-both-worlds approach for people that like the benefits of the "Why should you care?" use cases above.
Please reply and comment with your thoughts and please let's keep it positive, constructive and friendly :-)
    Pictures Below:
My two Retina MBPs, one with and one without the keyboard, so you can easily see the difference.  (As if you wouldn't)

Newer Bluetooth version of the ThinkPad External Trackpoint Keyboard available...
The new version is smaller, so you can use your MacBook Trackpad at the same time as your Trackpoint keyboard.
    Here is the Lenovo model/Part Number# 0B47190
Here is a picture of what it looks like:
Note: Just like the older larger USB model keyboard, there is a rubbery footpad in the middle of the bottom of the keyboard that I just peeled off.  Otherwise, it makes the "H" key press accidentally under-neath the keyboard.  Once I took that off, it fit perfectly over and around the built-in MacBook keyboard, so I can optionally put it on top of my MacBook for easy typing. :-)

  • WRT310N v1 and MacBook Pro wireless issues

    Hi all,
I've been having ongoing wireless issues with my WRT310N v1. I have a macbook pro (early 2009) with mac os 10.5.8. I have cable internet, with a DHCP connection. I have a computer and PS3 hardwired through the router, and they work flawlessly. The wireless, however, has never been what it should be. Internet loads slow, even though the connection speed is pretty good (not as fast as hardwired devices, but close).
    Here are the wireless settings:
    wireless config: manual
network mode: mixed (the Macbook can get wireless-n, by iPhone is only g)
    Radio band: standard 20 mhZ
wide channel: 9 (can't change this with this config, unless i go wide channel at 40 mhZ)
    standard channel: 11
    SSID broadcast: enabled
I've got WPA2 security, with AES encryption. I've set the Beacon interval to 75, and left the Fragmentation and RTS thresholds at default. The firewall is activated, and "filter anonymous internet requests" is disabled.I'm wondering if I'm losing so much speed by broadcasting a mixed signal, instead of just G or just N. I've tried transmitting only in Wireless-N, but there's no noticeable change (and the iPhone can't connect at all).
Any input at all would be really appreciated. I'm hoping I don't have to fork over $30 to linksys just to get tech support. Thanks in advance.

Well its not necessary to power cycle your router everytime whenever you make any changes on your Router. But if you re-configure all the settings on your from scratch, then its better to power cycle your router.

  • Macbook pro shutdown issue

Macbook pro shutdown issue when I push the power button it immediately goes into sleep mode

    Hello Marrio22,
Thank you for the question.  With OS X Mavericks, the power button has new functionality:
OS X Mavericks updates the power button behavior on Mac computers.
Using the Power Button to Sleep & Wake
Tap the power button in Mavericks to put your Mac to sleep or to wake it up:
Tap the power button once to put your Mac to sleep.
Tap the power button again to wake your Mac.
Press the power button for less than a half a second to sleep or wake your Mac. This duration is similar to pressing the Space bar or Return key to wake your Mac. The power button works this way across all Macs using OS X Mavericks, including both notebook and desktop computers.
    Accessing the Shut Down Dialog
Press and hold the power button for 1.5 seconds, to bring up additional options:
Forcing the Mac to Turn Off
Hold down the power button for 5 seconds to force the computer to turn off. Important: You may lose unsaved documents if you force the computer to turn off this way. Use this method of turning off your Mac only if it has become unresponsive for an extended period of time. Normally you should shut down the computer by selecting Shut Down from the Apple menu, or from the shut down dialog pictured above.
