Macbook Pro will not stay connected to the internet

It appears that I am not alone in this problem, but none of the troubleshooting is helping.
There seems to be no trigger, but randomly 0-10 minutes the internet stops working on the Macbook.  Sometimes restarting the wireless helps, most of the time it does not.
I know that my network/internet are working fine because all of our other devices stay connected with the Macbook drops.  Is there a easy fix that I missed?
Thanks,
Mike

Please test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
Step 1
Take the applicable steps in this support article. The Wireless Diagnostics program generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
Step 2
Disconnect all USB 3 devices. If you don't know which are USB 3, disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse.
Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. If you find that Wi-Fi works better with Bluetooth disabled, you should use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. Your router may not support it; in that case, you need a new router.
Step 4
Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences and unlock the settings, if necessary. Select the Power Adapter  tab, if there is one. Uncheck the box marked
          Wake for Wi-Fi network access
if it's checked.
Step 5
Open the Network pane in System Preferences and make a note of your settings in the Wi-Fi service. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the various tabs in the preference pane. If the preference pane is locked, unlock it by clicking the padlock icon and entering your administrator password. Delete Wi-Fi from the service list on the left by selecting it and clicking the minus-sign button at the bottom. Then recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign button and following the prompts.
Step 6
In the Wi-Fi settings, select
          Advanced... ▹ TCP/IP ▹ Configure IPv6: Link-local
Click OK and then Apply.
Step 7
Reset the System Management Controller.
Step 8
Reset the PRAM.
Step 9
Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
Step 10
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • My Macbook will not stay connected to the internet, while my Dell computer works fine. Why? What can I do?

My sister and I both have Macbook Pros that will not stay connected to our internet (wifi). Our dell computers and HP computers in the household work great- but both of the Macs do not stay connected, and often say "you are not connected to the internet". I have saved our wifi name to the computer so it is registered as our home network- but it still will not work fast or stay connected for long periods of time. Is there a setting I need to change, or anything I can do? Very disappointed with how the Mac works with our wifi.

Mac's will have trouble connecting to WEP Encrpyted and/or "hidden" / "invisible " networks.
OpenWEP (insecure) or WPA2(AES) is the only secure standard.

Also make sure the date and time are current and updating to Apple's servers for your location in System Preferneces > Date and Time. Then reboot and reconnect.
If your still having trouble after this, take both machines back to the store for a free evaluation.

My ipad will not stay connect to thier internet. I have to turn ipad off and back on then it will connect for a short time them I have to turn it off and back on to reconnect?

    1. Turn router off for 30 seconds and on again, this will refresh the IP address of your iPad
    2. Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    3. Try adding your SSID and Password manually
    Settings>Wi-Fi>Other...>Other Network

  • Macbook Pro will not stay connected to 3Play Bluetooth Receiver

Hello.  My brand new Macbook Pro Retina (2.3 Ghz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3, 500 GB memory, OSX 10.9.5) paired with the 3Play immediately and connected immediately, but would not stay connected over ten seconds.  My IPad and my android Galaxy phone work perfectly.  One website suggested that you have to download bluetooth explorer from Apple Developer and enable Apt-X.  I could not find a download of that type on the Apple Developer site.  Does anyone have a suggestion?  I am brand new to OSX and am still kind of stumbling my way through; in other words, I am less than a novice!  Thanks!

    CB50,
It is best that you create your own thread. If your issue is with your iPad than please create it in either the IOS forum or iPad forums. If your problem is with an Intel based Mac then use the Intel iMac forums or OS X forum for the version of OS X you have installed on your computer.
What you are doign is called threadjacking, attempting to take over someone elses thread. This is considered rude which I am sure is not your intent. To locate the correct forum please click Apple Support Communities at the top of this page and navigate to the correct forum.
    Good luck.

  • My iMac (2009 model) will not stay connected to the internet either via wifi or by ether net.

All other devices (2 PC laptops, 1 ipad, 1iphone, Apple TV and Airport express) connect just fine and stay connected. Deeply annoyed.

I was having the same issue with my 2011 iMac running lion, and it may be somewhat of a less technical resolution but it solved my problem...
    Go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES
    Then to NETWORK
    Click ADVANCED
Under WI-FI there should be a box with your preferred networks
Make sure your personal network (the one you want to be connected to at all times) is listed FIRST.
Just click and drag to rearrange the order.
When I turned on my iMac for the first time, it picked up a weak network without a password and always tried to connect to it.  I changed my personal network to the top of the list and now my iMac connects to that one after I leave my computer for a while.
    Hope this helps

  • Mid 2010 Macbook Pro will not stay off or asleep

    Hi,
I have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro will not stay turned off when I tell it to shut down.  It will shut down just fine, but a few seconds later it will boot up again.  This also happens when I try to close the lid (or just put it to sleep), it will work fine, screen/Apple logo on the back will turn off and the status LED will slowly pulse.  However a few seconds later, the LED stops pulsing and the Apple logo will illuminate.  If I open the lid I will be greeted with the log in page with zero delay (i.e. its been displaying for a while).
This has become problematic because the computer always be running.  If I put it in my laptop bag the computer will get hot as ****. The only way to get it to really turn off is to let the battery die or remove the battery.  But this computer does not have the externally removable battery so that is not a trivial process.
The symptoms exist in both Mac OS (Mountain Lion and Maveriks) and Windows 8/8.1.  This makes me believe its something in the hardware (or at least a setting in the hardware), not software (I know Apple doesn't care what Windows does, but it is exibiting identical behavior).
I have reset the NVRAM and the SMC with no luck.  When I reset the SMC I didn't get a good indication that anything happened though, and was wondering if that is normal.  Resetting the NVRAM results in another restart, while its hard to tell if you actually reset the SMC.  I reset the SMC by turning the computer off, then holding the power button when it tries to restart (this usually gives me a few minutes where the computer will actually stay off), then pressing shift, control, option and power at the same time and releasing them at the same time.  This is how the Apple documentation said to do it.  They did not mention how long the must be held though so I presume that doesn't matter.
    Anyone experience this/have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jim

On my new MacBook Pro when I am connected to the internet via an Ethernet cable, Facebook pictures do not load. They show up as white boxes with blue question marks. This also happens on a website editor. But, when I am connected to the internet via Wifi, everything load properly. This is my work computer, so I have to be able to connect through the Ethernet cable to access everything. Please help me!

I mostly use Safari. But I also tried it on Firefox, Mozilla, and Camino. Mac OS X. It's my work computer, so I've only tried it at the office. I have to be connected through the Ethernet cable to access my files and email on the server.

Whenever I try to open the application icon starts jumping and then disappears

Says it works with 10.7, problems with 10.8 though.
Reinstall the program and trash the Dock icon, then make a new one and see if that works.
Then Trash it's preference file and relaunch the program to create a new one
Deleting the System Preference or other .plist file
If not then run through this, could be a sign of something bigger

  • TS1398 After leaving a wi-fi connection my iphone will not automatically connect to the internet via the 3G network unless I turn it off and then on again. Is there a setting that can be changed to overcome this issue?

After leaving a wi-fi connection my iphone will not automatically connect to the internet using a mobile 3G network unless I turn my phone off and then back on again. Is there a setting that can be changed to overcome this?

Then I'm at a loss. Mine has switched automatically from the start, favoring Wi-Fi, any of its registered networks, whenever available. Only thing I can think of is trying a Force Restart and see if that clears things up: hold down Home and Sleep till the screen goes black and a white Apple logo pops up. Release and allow it to restart.
May be similar, when I got the i5 about 16 months ago, the local carrier was starting to roll out 4G service. The phone would regularly lose all carrier connection, voice and data. Haphazardly would reconnect when it felt like it afterwards. Initially did the Off/On dance to speed things up, but discovered that using Airplane Mode would do the same without the lengthier power cycle. After awhile, the carrier 'fessed they were having capacity issues and later the problem went away. So yours too may also be a carrier issue.

  • My macbook pro says I am connected to the internet but won't load pages

Change your router channel number.  Most times this works & is all you have to do.

  • HT4628 My macbook pro will not automatically reconnect to the wifi after a sleep. This has started after having upgraded to mountain Lion (10.8).

    Hi
After I have installed Mountain Lion (10.8) - my macbook pro will not connect automatically to my preferred wifi network. It used to do that on the previous versions. It seems that the mac does not recognize the preferred network, as it asks me to choose a network after evey sleep/restart. I have modified the network preference to have my preferred netwrok at the top of the list. I have tried with/without checking the "ask me before joining a new network". It still behaved the same.
    Thanks
    Eitan

Try making a new network connection and renewing the DCHP lease as detailed here:
