Macbook Pro Win 7 x64

Hi, I have recently bought a MacBook Pro 2009 from a mate who sold it as faulty. The Apple store said it was a faulty Logic Board but couldn't say for certain what the problem was. Having experience with PCs I tried putting an old HDD in to test if it
would work and it did. So I bought an SSD and installed Win 7 via Bootcamp.
Last night I upgraded OSX to 10.9.4 Mavericks which installed okay, then I installed the upgrade to 10.9.5 and left it running when I went to work. When I got home I found the Mac had frozen at the login screen with a spinning multi-coloured wheel in the
top left corner but the machine was unresponsive so I had to hold the power button down for 4 seconds to turn it off. After I restarted the update installed (again) successfully.
In Win 7 here is the hardware specs of my Mac:
System Manufacturer Apple Inc.
System Model MacBookPro5,5
System Type x64-based PC
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU     P7550  @ 2.26GHz, 2261 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)
BIOS Version/Date Apple Inc. MBP55.88Z.00AC.B03.0906151708, 15/06/2009
Having heard OSX was rock solid I booted into Win 7 x64 and looked through the event logs and found these 2 errors which seem to be hardware related:

could somebody point me in the right direction as to how to resolve these issues? My Machine has been upgraded to 8gb ddr3 1333mhz and a 240gb Kingston SSD 6Gbps. I think this version of the Mac only supports 1.5Gbps sata bus, I have downloaded a driver
from apple to upgrade the EFI to install faster storage to the 3.0Gbps but they do not support it so I am unsure if installing it will be a good idea.
Thanks for reading.

Hi,
According to the Event Log:
Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) error related. Generally speaking, this probably caused by Hardware problem. It would be better to contact Apple Service Center for further assitance.

  • Place LR on MacBook Pro & Win XP PC?

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro and would like to place my copy of Light Room on it as well as on the XP PC.  Any suggestions - I see in my list of registered products it is a "multiple" platform product.
Would like to update as well, thanks, Tommy

If you already have Lightroom 3 then go ahead and install it on your MacBook Pro (in addition to your existing Win XP install).
You're entitled to install it on a maximum of 2 computers which can be any mix of Mac or Windows: Mac/Mac or Win/Win or Mac/Win.
If you're thinking of updating to Lightroom 4 then bear in mind that LR4 does not support or run on Windows XP - an Adobe design decision (LR3 is OK on Win XP).

Is your MacBook Pro a Retina model? If so, my understanding is that Lightroom 4 is not yet optimised for HiDPI displays such as Retina.

  • CS5.5 on Macbook Pro (Win or Mac)

I'm a PC user due for major upgrade. Thinking about maybe switching to Mac. Macbook Pro or iMac.
If I switch to Mac I could run Mac version of PPro OR Windows version on Windows with Parallels Desktop.
    Any comments/suggestions?
    Thanks.

I was pondering this same issue.
Harm's reply is somewhat what I perceive Macs as well....with the exception that I've never thought of any computer as "sexy"... but hey, to each their own.
    Pro's -
    - You can have Mac and Windows OS's running on one machine. Bootcamp is far better than any other "virtual / emulation" software running Windows.
    - Thunderbolt; the speed is impressive...at least on paper. (Eventually, it will make it's way to the Windows world)
    Con's -
    - No HARDWARE acceleration for MPE in PPro
    - iMac HDD has to be replaced with a specific HDD from Apple. You may want to read this: http://blog.macsales.com/10146-apple-further-restricts-upgrade-options-on-new-imacs
    - Thunderbolt; it's a first gen technology so use beware!! Connecting external monitors can be a nightmare. Another tidbit of info: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2774718
If your looking for a laptop solution, you may want to have a look at the Sager laptops. Though designed for the hardcore mobile gamer in mind, their specs may suit your editing needs. http://www.sagernotebook.com/

  • Trackpad macbook pro win xp, trackpad macbook pro win xp

has anyone ever got the trackpad ( magicpad) to work as right click, two fingers. under win xp pro????  If so any help would be appreicated

MDMason, thanks for the response. I don't use Parallels but I will have to try this XP sleep thing when running on batteries.
Last night, I rebooted back into XP and it reported that it had "recovered" from a serious error. I could surf the net with no problems so it appeared XP was working fine (good thing I imaged the Windows partition with Disk Utilities). I closed the MBP lid and let it go to sleep, waited a minute and opened it back up and XP was waiting for me. Then, I closed the lid again and went out to a valentine's dinner with my wife and let it sit for a few hours.
When we got back, I opened the MBP and again, XP was there. I'm not sure what happened but I can't seem to duplicate it.
I'll play some more over the next few days and see what happens.
    Thank you,

  • MacBook Pro, Win XP and Sleep

    Hey,
I'm not sure if this is the proper topic for my question, but if it's not I will move it.
Anyway, I have a MBP with Core 2 Duo with absolutely NO problems. It works fine and lasts a long time. I also have XP Pro installed via Bootcamp with, again, no problems.
Yesterday morning, I booted into the WinXP partition and did what I needed but then I had to go to work (got to pay for this baby!). So, instead of rebooting into OSX and putting the MBP to sleep from there (which works fine), I thought, humm, let's see if my MBP will sleep booted into XP.
I closed the screen and after a few moments, I got the LED in the latch doing it's standard varying breathing brightness thing so I left for work. BTW, the MBP was connected to external AC power.
Last night, I opened the lid and the MBP was booting into OSX! The login screen popped right up so it finished when I opened it up. Booting into OSX is the default startup but I expected WinXP to be there not OSX starting up.
What's the deal? Does anyone know what a MBP will do when you close the lid booted into WinXP? This is not something I normally do but it sure was unexpected. If anyone has some insight, I would appreciate it.
In the meantime, I will experiment with my computer and see if I can get more details.
    Thanks,
    Gerry

  • MacBook Pro vs MacBook Air

I'm going to be getting a Macbook, and its going to be either the air or the pro, and I need some help from people that understand computer peripherals better than me.
Here are the details. They are based on student pricing, with the original price in parentheses.
    MacBook Pro * price: $999 (normally $1200)
    2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
    Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
    4GB 1600MHz memory
    500GB 5400-rpm hard drive1
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
    1280 x 800 pixels
    MacBook Air (normally $1100) * 1.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor
    Turbo Boost up to 2.6GHz
    Intel HD Graphics 5000
    4GB memory
    128GB flash storage
    1440 x 900 pixels
    MacBook Air advantages
Better graphics (Intel HD graphics 5000 instead of 4000 on the pro)
    Flash storage
    better screen resolution
    MacBook Pro advantages
    Faster processer
I'm just not sure how much each of these plays into the speed of the laptop. Do the Intel HD 5000, flash storage, and screen resolution make up for the slower processor or not? The only thing the MacBook Pro wins in is the processor. I'm hoping for an answer from someone who understands the factors well.

I'm a write and I use the MBA. I had a MBP for years that was solid and dependable. But I use my computer primarily for writing books, so I generally use MS Word, Safari, iTunes, Mail, Skype occasionally, and other small programs. I also we web design so I sometimes use Dreamweaver and Photoshop. I've found that the MBA handles everything I need it to brilliantly.
People will tell you that the MBP is faster and that the MBA internals are old tech (specifically the processor), and technically they're right. However, the MBA is optimized for speed. The solid state drive is so much faster than the HDD that comes standard in a MBP at opening programs and loading documents. Unless you're doing video editing or photo editing or any other processor intensive tasks, you more than likely simply will not benefit from the faster processor in a MBP.
Like the other poster said, spend some time at the Apple store playing with both. I got the maxed out 11" with the 128SSD, 4gb RAM and the 1.6GHz processor. There are tricks to keeping your disk space, such as using IMAP for your email if your mail server supports it. That way none of my email resides on my computer, and keeping my video on an external hard drive. My music takes up the lion's share of my disk space (60gb) but after I installed all my programs (keeping my documents on a cloud service and backed up on an HDD) I still have 35gb left.
I spent a couple of months going to the Apple store to play with the machine. I did everything I would conceivably do with it and it performed admirably. In the end, for me, the trade off in portability versus computing power, portability won out.
    Good luck.

  • MacBook Pro 4,1 stuck on blinking cursor during Win 7 x64 installation

    Hi,
I'm trying to install Windows 7 x64 on my MacBook Pro 4,1. I've repartitioned - no problems (although it took a while). I couldn't download the Apple drivers to a USB stick, so I unchecked that option.
I'm using a Win7 x64 Pro DVD - full retail edition, not a burned ISO, not an upgrade edition. I've used it before - this machine was Boot Camped up until just before Mountain Lion came out.
I've seen the Apple Support article - there are no external devices plugged in to my MBP. I've reset the PRAM as well just in case. I've even turned off the wi-fi just in case for some bizarre reason it was seeing the Time Capsule on my network as an external drive (although I know the blinking cursor is appearing long before the wi-fi is activated).
If I boot holding down the option key, I can get in to Mavericks, Recovery HD, Windows or EFI Boot. The last two are on the optical media, both produce the same result.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!
    Ben

But of an update - I've cleared the boot camp partition off the drive and restored the drive to its original partition scheme. The upshot is a speed boost in OS X due to the re-partitioning creating a contiguous block of free space (I.e. A brute force way of forcing a big defrag above the 20mb 5 fragment limit).

  • Can't install win 8 x64 on SSD partition on MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro with a 512gb SSD drive and I'm trying to use Bootcamp to install windows 8 off a flash drive to half of the SSD partition. When I get to the windows installation screen after reboot, it tells me I can't install to that partition that Bootcamp created and that my hardware might not support booting aff that partition. I tried deleting it and reformatting it but that didn't work.
Does anyone know a workaround for this?

How did you create the Bootcamp partition and how did you delete it in your attempts to install Windows?

I have an Epson printer on a Wifi network. Windows 7 desktop is running the network, and my wife's HP Win 7 laptop prints to it just fine. My MacBook Pro running Yosemite won't detect it, and I do have the latest driver installed. I didn't have a problem when I had a Canon Pixma on the network, but when I replaced it with the Epson nothing seems to work. I go to add a printer to the queue and only the FAX function of the printer shows up - not the WS-4530 print function. Does anyone out there have any suggestions?  Please??? :-)

    Hi Kelly,
As someone who has to print from my Mac to a networked printer at home all the time, I can certainly understand how frustrating it must be to have that fail to perform as expected. Let's see if we can get you up and running.
I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

Start with the section titled Check the network.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

You can use XP but it has to be in a Virtual Machine and OS X as the host instead of as a dual boot system with XP in its own partition. That is how I run Windows on my Mac, in a Virtual Machine.
Take a look at VritualBox from Oracle. It's free and works very well.

MacBook Pro 8,1 – Intel Core i5 – 2.23 GHz (early 2011) New with OSX 10.6 – current on all updates.
I successfully installed rEFit. I used Boot Camp to install Win 7.  All was great.
Then installed debian 6.  Somehow after the debian install and restart (I know this sounds crazy) but I am now reduced to Win 7 only. rEFit is not present when rebooting nor is OSX or debian. Further, I am unable to force the install DVD to launch when rebooting, by holding C, D or F8.  The Option key brings me to the grey screen with a padlock. I have attempted the root and local pw- no go. Restart holding D takes me to the windows boot manager. I have attempted several options within the Advanced Options; including – Repair Your computer, safe mode and “last known good config,” All of which did nothing.
I can see all my OSX files within win7. I tried to install the OSX within windows. Ya right, that did nothing..
I only desire to get back to OSX...
    What are my options??

Yes, you royally hosed up your machine.
You should first try to get your files off, any way you can to a external drive.
Your going to need to hold c and boot from the disk that came with your computer and a couple of screens in under the menu is a option for Disk Utility.
Select your drive and Erase with Security Option Zero, format the drive HFS+ Journaled and when that's finished (about a hour or so) then quit and install OS X from the installer.
I hope this works, but I suspect it won't. Others have hosed their machines trying to use a Linux disk without proper partition formatting too.
Another option might be to use another Mac to c boot off the Snow Leopard disk and install OS X onto a external drive, take that to the problem Mac and try holding option and booting off of it to erase your internal drive.
    You could replace the drive.
    frederick s wrote:

Is this holding option while booting?
There was someone else around here who hosed their Mac with a Linux disk too. Try to find it.

  • Wireless issues with MacBook Pro i5 in Boot Camp Windows 7 x64

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro i5 15''. I'm usually connecting to the 802.11n 5Ghz wireless network of my Time Capsule when running OS X, which works absolutely fine. When running Windows 7 x64 in Boot Camp though, this network can't be found and I have to connect to my secondary 802.11g network of an AirPort Express. Even this network connection usually dies after a few minutes of intensive use though (copying files, playing online games; it's fine with low activity like web surfing). It still appears connected normally, but no data is being transmitted. I have to reset the wireless adapter to get it to work again. The same network works fine for any OS X device.
The Windows drivers for the Broadcom chip in this machine seem really flaky. Anybody else have these problems or maybe a solution?

Yes, sorry, the Boot Camp area would have been a better place to ask. After some more googling I found a helpful thread though, which led me to download this driver package:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?swItem= ob-80585-1&lang=en&cc=us&idx=3&mode=4&
From it I installed the driver called "Broadcom 43225 802.11b/g/n", and presto, I can finally use my 802.11n network under Windows. Hope that's helping other people that may have this problem.

  • Windows 7 x64 ult. update KB2685813 failed on bootcamp 5.1 (MacBook pro retina late 2013)

    Hey,
I have a MacBook Pro late 2013 running Windows 7 x64 ultimate with bootcamp 5.1.5640.
Windows failed to update user mode driver framework 1.11 (KB2685813) several times now.
I did even get stuck during instalation after reboot.
I dont want to risk to lose the windows.
    What can I do?
    Cheers.

Ok, where is this Intel driver? There is no such thing "program manager" so I am guessing you mean the Programs and features control panel, but on my machine that whole window is blank after a clean install. I still cannot get the USB ports to activate. Two fresh installs and several different USB sticks later and no luck.  Should I just give up and go to Windows 8.1?  I really need Windows 7 to work if at all possible. Other devices shows one USB controller without driver software so I suppose that's the culprit. There are other USB devices installed under the USB section of Device Manager, but they apparently have nothing to do with the USB ports themselves, just devices like the trackpad etc.  I've spent two hours on this so far and it's getting out of control.  Why doesn't this work with generic USB drivers?

  • Can I set up my Macbook Pro to boot to Win 7 from an external drive?

Rather than partition my internal drive for having to work with Windows & Office 2010 (specifically Access 2010) can I set up my macbook pro to boot to Win 7 from an external drive?

No, not with Boot Camp. I've never even tried it with a VM (which I use) - I keep all the data on my internal drive. I'm not saying that it couldn't be done with a VM, I've just never tried it.
