MacBook Pro Wireless Connectivity issues - Possibly Resolved

I have been having the same issue as many people with the WiFi connectivity dropping over and over. This has been a total hair pulling experience. I searched all over the internet and have not found a solution so I started digging and dianosing this profound problem. It appears as of now, that it has been fixed in my case so I wanted to share it with others and hopefully it helps you guys out as well.
*If you are using a router with Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) enabled, you need to disable it.* My connection was dropping every 15 or so minutes but has been up for quite a while now without the need to turn off and on Airport. Give it a try, hopefully your results will be successful.

BTW: If you try this and it works for you please reply back so we can give more information to the Mac Users out there.

For some reason My MacBook Pro has been connecting to my Airport Extreme/Express no problem and works with no problem, but after a little time is says that there Safari can not connect to the server. The bars on the my Airport on the the top bar still has all four bars regardless if I can get online or not.
The weird thing is that when it "can't connect to the server" then everything wireless goes. Nothing in my network settings has changed, nothing has been moved, and nothing has been added to effect the network. Connecting wired is no problem however.

  • MacBook Pro 15" connectivity Issue.  Everything else works great; PC's and smaller MacBooks, but everyone with a 15" model is having connection issues.

So I have a 15" Macbook Pro.  About two months ago I started having issues connecting it on my network at work.  Every other 15" MacBook pro is having the same issue.  When the wireless connects, it often comes back with a connection timeout, or it connects to the router, and DHCP doesn't give it an IP addess.  Static IP doesn't work.  There are the odd place where I can connect regularly, but they are few and far between.  I have great singnal strength, but it's just really flaky.
My network Admin can't figure it out.  all the PCs are working fine, and even MacBooks and 13" Macbook Pros are working.  The problem seems to be common to MacBook Pro 15", AppleTV, iPad.  Anyone got any ideas?

    Hello Sepehr.E,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Wi-Fi on your MacBook Pro.  I would be concerned about this too.
I'm not sure if you have tried these steps yet, but I recommend following the steps in the following article to resolve an issue like the one you described:

  • Macbook Pro Wireless Connection Problems

I bought my 13 inch macbook pro 1 week ago and I've had wireless connection problems from day 2 (I think after the updates).
    Problems include:
    - Safari cannot connect to the internet for 5~10 minutes after I turn it on, whether it be from sleep mode or completely off or restart (the fastest connection I got after turning it on was about 40 seconds)
    - Loading takes ridiculously long and eventually Safari cannot find the server
    - Airport signal (on the top right hand corner) is always full when it is not working
    - Sometimes internet works but it is ridiculously slow
However, when the wireless connection stabilizes, Airport Signal is 2~3 bars full and internet works SOOO well and I love it so much when it does. But the problem is that it stabilizes like 30 minutes to never after I turn it on and it makes me so mad I want to explode this piece of crap in the microwave.
So I've called apple support, and they made me try four things:
    1. Reset modem, router, and computer
    2. Delete caches, reset Safari
    3. Putting Airport first on the Service Order and resetting DHCP Lease
    4. Connecting with Ethernet Cable then resetting the computer
None of these worked, and I'm suspecting that the cause of the problem is the hardware (not the aluminum body that's just bs) because my router and modem are working fine (my other samsung laptop is working perfectly). I don't think the problem lies in my network settings either because I did exactly what the Apple technicians told me to do. So after Appleguy made me try all 4 of those diagnostics, he told me to contact my router company NETGEAR because he thinks nothing is wrong with the mac hardware, so I did. The NETGEAR lady told me if one laptop is working and another isn't, there is nothing wrong with the router. So if nothing is wrong with my hardware, software, router, modem, ISP... Why do I have wireless issues????!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I'm going to return this <edited by host> or get another one with my warranty

    Same thing here.
I've got a Macbook Pro 15" bought 6 weeks ago, airport express bought about a year ago. All updated with latest software/firmware, etc. Problems include:
-Sometimes when i pull down the network list, my network isn't even there, yet i'm still connected to it. My airport is appx 10 feet away in an open area.
-usually after opening safari or firefox for the first time upon sleep, restart, or just opening the program after i had quit it, it is miserably slow. it takes about 2 minutes for pages like msn.com to load. finally when they do, its faster than you can imagine. that lasts for about a minute. then its slow again.
-when logged into ichat and i send messages, i would sometimes get a "connection timeout" message. my buddy would end up getting the message about 5 minutes later.
My iphone and dell laptop work fine. i haven't tried running parallels, but if bootcamp works, so should prlls.
I've reset the modem about 20 times. i've reset the airport about 20 times. i even re-installed my OS on the mac and nothing has done it.
Weird thing is that i've had my mac for 6 weeks, and this problem surfaced only 3 days ago.
Clearly its not an issue of any of our ISP's. Due to the fact that this only started for me 3 dyas ago, i'm hopeful that its only a software problem and not something else. Hopefully apple will a) ADMIT THEY HAVE A PROBLEM HERE and b) FIX IT.

  • MacBook Pro wireless signal issue

I've been experiencing this issue for at least a month now and it is driving me up the wall. Occasionally, my wireless signal will drop and I'll either be unable to connect to websites, or when I do it takes a very long time. And the only cure I find for this is to go to the menu bar and 'Turn Airport Off', wait a sec, then 'Turn Airport On'. This is a pain and I'm sick of doing it.
The drop occurs intermittently, some times once a day, sometimes 10 times in as many minutes. Most of the time I can see the signal indicator in the menu bar drop from 4 bars to 3. Also, it isn't a matter of signal strength as I am sitting 10 feet from the router.
I know it's not an issue with my ISP (Verizon Fios) or their router, because wired hosts dont have this problem and the wireless Windows hosts in my house dont have the problem.
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue, and if there is a fix. Thanks.

So is this an authoritative answer? I have seen exactly the same problem. My wife's MacBook Pro keeps losing its connection, but my iMac G4 and my Powerbook G4 work fine. We are all talking to the same Dlink DI-524 WAP, but only her MacBook Pro has this problem.
The workaround I have been using is to renew her dhcp lease every time she loses contact. This works, but it's a PIA as you say.
If I were to want to go back to 10.4.8, how on earth does one do that? Does Apple have any official opinion on this problem, or better yet, a fix?

  • Intermittent iMac to Macbook Pro wireless connection

I have a 24" iMac that is connected to our house wifi network. It is a TimeCapsule and there is a Mac Mini, Macbook Air and a Macbook Pro all on the same network. I can connect to all the computers from my Macbook Pro but occasionally I won't be able to connect to the iMac. We also you Rowmote Pro, an App on our iPhones. It connects using the same wireless network and when the Macbook Pro losses the ability to connect to the iMac the Rowmote also stops working with the iMac. When the Macbook Pro tries to connect to the iMac I get, "Connection failed. The server "iMac" may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again." At that exact moment I can see the iMac on my sidebar and all the other computers except the macbook pro can see AND connect to the iMac. I also can't go from the iMac and connect to the macbook pro but the iMac is on the network and connect to all the other computers. The iMac also has an internet connection through the TimeCapsule. I also reinstalled the OS and restarted and still can't connect. The worst part is that it switches randomly, sometimes I can connect and sometimes I can't. I am completely stumped!

Unless you have a wireless base station already, you could use the AirPort Express for that. That is, connect the AirPort Express to the Ethernet output of the cable modem.
It is possible to install an AirPort card (may be difficult to find today) into a G4 iMac. This would allow the iMac to establish a connection with the base station (wirelessly). Alternatively, a wireless Ethernet bridge (such as D-Link DWL-G820, Linksys WET54G and Linksys WGA600N; attached to the Ethernet port of the iMac) would provide an external solution. A wireless Ethernet bridge does not require special drivers and can thus be used with most Ethernet devices under almost any operating system. Even a USB wireless adapter may work, but only if suitable Mac drivers are available.
If you do not want to use the AirPort Express at all, you could buy (for example) an AirPort Extreme Base Station instead. The WAN port connects to the cable modem. The LAN ports make a direct wired connection to the iMac possible.

  • 2007 Macbook Pro, Wireless connection slows to a crawl or drops out!

Hi all, I have recently started having problems with my 2007 15" 2.16ghz Macbook Pro and the wireless connection to my router.
Quite often it will say I am not connected to the network, the Airport symbol will fluctuate between full bars and no bars and when it does connect, the speed is awfully slow, it regularly hangs on a webpage for a few seconds before loading it up.
It is not the router as my Girlfriend has a white macbook and when I am experiencing problems she is not. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be the problem, is the wireless card on it's way out??
    btw the airport details are:
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x87)
    Wireless Card Locale: Worldwide
    Wireless Card Firmware Version: 1.4.10.3
    Current Wireless Network: SKY10597
    Wireless Channel: 2
    Thanks, Nick

You might try a different channel, but the iBook result belies there being a high probability of success using this approach. You could try a different browser. Does the problem also occur when you are very close to the WAP? Your card might be old enough to be malfunctioning. Given the recent experiences of others, I don't recommend doing any updates in trying to solve the problem. Have you done any Airport related updates lately?

  • New Macbook Pro Wifi connection issues

I just bought a new Macbook Pro. When I try to connect to my wireless router I get a "Connection Timed out" message. It won't connect. In order to connect I have to go to Network Preferences and Select "Diagnostic". After following the steps I can type in my password. It says the password is "invalid" though I know it is correct and then it connects anyway.! I must go through this process everytime to log on. Very annoying. Any solutions?

After taking it in to the tech department, I gave up on them and opened it myself. Re-seated the connection from the Superdrive to the main board, and it works fine.

  • Macbook Pro WiFi connectivity issues

Hi there - planning on contacting Apple directly tomorrow but thought I'd put this question to the community before I run up my phone bill!
For the past few days I've seen my WiFi connectivity go severely downhill, I've had my new Macbook Pro 2012 (non-retina) for a little less than a week, and I haven't had a problem with my internet since a few days ago.
This is DEFINITELY an issue with my computer. I have other computers and an iPhone which work perfectly well with the same network - in fact, my girlfriend was next to me running on her laptop for 20 minutes whilst I sat there pulling my hair out to the messages of "You are not connected to the Internet" and "Network timeout".
The computer was originally installed with OS X Lion, but I updated to Mountain Lion after 2-3 days. (Perhaps it's a problem with this? Is this an ongoing thing with the range or the OS?). I have tried reinstalling the OS X, a frustrating ordeal as I actually needed an internet connection to do this! This, however, doesn't seem to have done too much...
I've tried deleting all information about my network (in the advanced wifi tab, and in Keychain), and also tried entering the wrong password in when manually adding the network, I'd heard that works yet clearly not!...
I feel like I'm using a mobile phone with bad signal when I have to hold the pc in the air as if i'm looking for that "sweet spot" (strangely enough this usually works for a minute)
Any ideas? I feel like I've exhausted all means, I'm at the end of my tether!

I have been having the same problem. When my MacBook Pro running 10.9.1 (Mavericks) wakes up from sleep, whether from shutting the lid or inactivity, the Wi-Fi seaches for a network, but won't reconnect to my known home Wi-Fi network. When I try to select my network from the menu at the top-right of the screen, I get an error message after about 10 seconds saying that the network is unavailable. If I turn off Wi-Fi and turn it back on twice, I can then reconnect to my home Wi-Fi network. This is a very annoying problem. Please fix it in 10.9.2.

  • MacBook Pro Bluetooth Mouse Issue - Possible Bug??

I recently purchased the new MacBook Pro and I have a weird issue with both the bluetooth Mighty Mouse and another Microsoft bluetooth mouse.
So first, I purchased the mighty mouse thinking it would work great with my new MacBook, however, after pairing it and turning up the scrolling to the highest setting it was still way to slow for movement across the screen requiring me to pick up the mouse and move it to get all the way across.
I had also installed Windows 7 on Parallels and was able to install my Microsoft Presenter Mouse 8000 on that with a dongle and it moved super fast just like I liked it. I had to use the dongle because for some reason Parallels didn't show the internal bluetooth. So I thought I would try using my Microsoft Presenter Mouse 8000 on the Mac side so I downloaded the Intellipoint 6.3 software that is made for mac and installed it on the machine then paired up my MS mouse. I then went in and set the settings to their highest settings for scrolling and once again I had the same issue as with the Mighty Mouse. Way too slow.
So then I took it to one of the Geek Squad guys at Best Buy in my area to see if he could figure it out and he was stumped as well. However, after playing with it a bit we discovered that if you went into the native keyboard/mouse settings in the system preferences folder and dragged the scrolling setting to it's lowest setting and then back to the highest setting the Microsoft Mouse would move super fast like it is supposed to. I got all excited, however, the problem is that as soon as you closed that dialog box it goes back to slow again. Weirdest thing ever.
So I have no idea what would cause that and would love some feedback from you all. I think it is a bug because in my opinion the Might Mouse should work better than anything else. Any thoughts anyone?

This problem can be caused because of the mouse pad. Try using a dark color one with no reflective glare. Sometimes the light bounces.

  • Macbook Pro WiFi connectivity issues since updating to Mavericks

I upgraded to the Mavericks OSX 10.9.1 and started seeing WiFi issues. The issues seem to happen when I have to wake up the system after closing the lid. I have an Airport Extreme router

I have been having the same problem. • Macbook Fios Wireless Connection Issues

Hi everyone. All of a sudden today my Macbook is having issues connecting to my Verizon Fios Wireless Internet. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem or is aware of any problems with compatibility or something. Any tips or advice? Thanks!

Finally got an answer! Thanks to all the folks I talked to, one of them taught me a little trick that I wanted to share. What worked was renaming the router, then making the macbook connect to it as if it was a new network - it connected and stayed online. Then renaming the router back and connecting to it again as it were a new network and it connected and has stayed connected. Hope this works for anyone else having this issue!

  • Macbook Windows wireless connectivity issue

It happed that the mac book I was connected to he Linksys wireless router and at the same time i turned on the windows machine and it just didnt get an IP. I did all sorts of troubleshooting issues on the windows machine. Nothing worked. All of a sudden I thought is the mac connectivity giving some issue so i turned off the macbook airport off and immediatly after that the windows machie got an IP.
What could be the problem ??
    Soumy

if you set it to the most compatible with the least common denominator you should be able to connect with both. (If that's what I understand you are trying to achieve).
