Macbook Pro wireless signal going in and out
I recently got comcast highspeed internet with the wireless network. Everything works fine when I'm using my MBP in the same room as the router. But when I go to my office which is only about 20ft away the signal struggles to stay strong. What's frustrating is that my G4 is in the same room and has no problem picking up and keeping a strong signal.
On top of that, when I connect my MBP to my 23" cinema display and close the MBP the airport card cuts off completely and can't even connect to, and sometimes doesn't even show the network in the list.
HELP!!!
PS: If this question belongs in a different section please feel free to let me know.
This happened to me when I updated to 10.4.10 but it seems from your profile you are still under 10.4.9.
Problem solved by reverting to the "IO80211Family.kext" of 10.4.9 in System/Library/Extensions as described in an other discussion on this forum

After watching a youtube video in fullscreen on my Macbook pro, the display goes black and my laptop get stuck...
And I need to reboot everything from the power button...
It's just the second time it happens. What it depends from?Hello DarlinDodson,
I'd recommend taking a look through the following article that can help get your MacBook working with your TV again.

my macbook pro 2006 fan goes high and then makes a fast beep and shuts down it been happening since i updated it should i update to lion?
No, this problem should be solved.
The MBP shuts down when too hot, to protect itself. First see if it is a process running astray: start Activity Monitor (in Applications/Utilities) choose <all processes> and click the %CPU column: are there processes that are using more than 50% cpu power? If yes click it and quit it, and tell us which one. -
Macbook pro wireless signal acting very sporadic
Hi everyone!
My macbook pro recently starting acting strangely, after two years of no problems what so ever.
It seems that i can only get a very strong signal when i am in the same room as the router and even then the signal goes up and down constantly. It's very frustrating, especially when my iphone gets a very strong signal all the time.
I've tried zapping the PRAM and setting the router to g only. Although, I dont think it is the router. The problem occurs no matter where I go. If anyone has any ideas about what may be the cause and how to fix it, I would be greatly appreciative!
Thanks to all,
RhemySo is this an authoritative answer? I have seen exactly the same problem. My wife's MacBook Pro keeps losing its connection, but my iMac G4 and my Powerbook G4 work fine. We are all talking to the same Dlink DI-524 WAP, but only her MacBook Pro has this problem.
The workaround I have been using is to renew her dhcp lease every time she loses contact. This works, but it's a PIA as you say.
If I were to want to go back to 10.4.8, how on earth does one do that? Does Apple have any official opinion on this problem, or better yet, a fix?

MacBook Pro wireless signal issue
I've been experiencing this issue for at least a month now and it is driving me up the wall. Occasionally, my wireless signal will drop and I'll either be unable to connect to websites, or when I do it takes a very long time. And the only cure I find for this is to go to the menu bar and 'Turn Airport Off', wait a sec, then 'Turn Airport On'. This is a pain and I'm sick of doing it.
The drop occurs intermittently, some times once a day, sometimes 10 times in as many minutes. Most of the time I can see the signal indicator in the menu bar drop from 4 bars to 3. Also, it isn't a matter of signal strength as I am sitting 10 feet from the router.
I know it's not an issue with my ISP (Verizon Fios) or their router, because wired hosts dont have this problem and the wireless Windows hosts in my house dont have the problem.
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue, and if there is a fix. Thanks. So is this an authoritative answer? I have seen exactly the same problem. Macbook Pro Wireless Signal Strength
I am confused. My wife and I both bought new Macbook Pros last week. She has the stock 15" 2.2ghz and I have the 2.4ghz with 160gb 7200 rpm drive.
On my machine, the only way I can get 4 bars of signal coverage is to be within 5 feet of our router. On her machine she gets 4 bars all over the house. Same for my ibook g4 800mhz "dinosaur". That one gets the full strength as well.
Did I get a lemon? It seems to work well even with 3 bars, but I travel for a living and I depend on wireless services in hotels to "live my digital life." Is this going to be a problem? Waiting for a night in a hotel, which should be any day now, but I'm kinda wondering if I should talk to apple about this....
anyone have a similar experience with only 3 bars? Also, does 3 bars mean anywhere from 75%-100%? Is there a way to find an exact percentage of signal strength? Thanks for any and all replies.
RobWhat is the type of router you use? Check with it's vendor support page, as mine needed an upgrade after 10.4 and the dreaded network upgrade.
Also, go to a free internet cafe (like Tully's) and see if you can duplicate this. That will narrow it down to your home router or the machine. My Vista machine also had problems with my wireless network until I updated my wireless card software for it. XP would run fine, 5 bars, Vista, 2 bars.
There have been a lot of odd issues with the updates to all these wireless cards, moving through a variety of new standards including problems with WPA and other security protocols. Given where I live, I simply disabled security on the network, assuming that there are not many people out here wanting to hack my network. In a city or suburb, I'd probably be using security though. -
Macbook pro 2009 s/pdif in AND out?
I'm thinking of buying an audio interface that uses s/pdif, which I've never used. When I click "About this Mac" and "More Info" on my late 2009 MBPro, it only mentions s/pdif output, but I'll need s/pdif in to get info from the interface. Will this work? Thanks.
No, 2009 MacBook Pro doesn't have s/pdif input interface, so it doesn't work, I think.

IPad 2 WIFI signal going in and out.
I have the iPad2 16 gig white (wifi only) and never had a problem with it. One day I am using it and it starts dropping signal. I am in another room from my router and I will have 2 out of 3 bars. Then suddenly it drops to the dot, losing signal. It will suddenly pop back to 2-3 bars only to lose it again. While this is happening my laptop (macbook) and phone (iPhone4) are fine with full signal strength.
I have reset my router, restarted my iPad, reset/wiped my iPad clean, updated my iPad, turned the brightness up/down, turned off blue tooth, reset netowrk settings. I have changed my DNS to several different #'s. This isn't just on my network, it is others as well. Nothing is working.
I will say when I am within 10 feet of the router it does not lose signal and is fine. Only when I am in other rooms does it start acting funny. My other divices are fine where my iPad is losing the signal. But before the issue the ipad was fine. This is very frustrating.
My APPLE warranty is voided because I had the screen replaced.
Any other suggestions?Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Additional things to try.
Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
On your iPad go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings and see if that enables you to connect.
If none of the above suggestions work, look at this link.

MacBook Pro 13" Screen going red and cyan at certain angles
Started doing this yesterday out of the blue - at certain angles the screen turns cyan and red. Brought MacBook around year ago, not sure what to do next. Tried doing the command R thing at start up to reinstall OS X as one feed said to do that, but it didn't work. Tried getting an appointment at the genius bar, but can't until next week! Any ideas what's going on/what to do next?
timm1992around year ago
Check to see if your Mac is still covered under the one year limited warranty.
Apple - Support - Check Your Service and Support Coverage
Command + R gives you access to the built in utilities in OS X Recovery
If your Mac won't boot using OS X Recovery, definitely mention that as well when you take it to the Apple Store.
T'hat's the only way you can restore or repair OS X on your Mac.
The display color issue doesn't sound like a hard drive issue. Perhaps an issue with the graphics card or a problem with the display. -
I have been meaning to change my battery on my computer as it is completely dead and wont charge when plugged in. So this might be a problem but it is plugged into the adapter and it has been working fine the last few weeks, but all of a sudden this problem occured:
I accidentally unplugged my computer before shutting it down and it switched off automatically. When I tried to turn it on it would start, the chime sound could be heard a grey screen with the apple would appear for a couple of seconds and then the screen would go black and the computer would try to reboot again and the chime would sound and then go black and restart again, chime would play etc. It continues like this and wont do anything else. I can open the computer in safemode without a problem. Is this just a battery problem (even though it is plugged into the charger)? or do I have a hardware problem.
Also if I try to restart the SMC will this delete everything on my harddrive? I havent backed up everything and I dont have the means to back up (using safemode) at the moment. \Please help if you can. I am in a desperate situation at the moment.Given that it runs in Safe Mode, a reinstall may be overkill. But what the heck! A nuclear bomb CAN be successfully used to kill a mosquito...

You do have a third-party extension loaded, so you might try working in Safe Mode to see if the panics cease. If they do then uninstall the software for VaraAudio to determine if its driver is the cause. Also disconnect any third-party peripherals.

Have my MacBook Pro plugged into a monitor and also using a wireless keyboard. I want to close the MacBook but every time I do the monitor turns off - is there a way to avoid this?
Press any key on the wireless keyboard after you close the MBP and it goes to sleep. The computer will wake up with the external monitor as its display. This is called Clamshell mode.

I am going to buy myself a MacBook Pro in the near future and was wondering if the new Retina Display model would be worth the extra cash. I will mostly be doing photo/video/music editing.
if you're not in a big rush - why not hold off until Adobe and Microsoft releases an update to support the Retina Screen.
Don't get me wrong - the Macbook Retina is a good and videos look great - but when it comes to Photoshop, it's a little blurry and the fonts in Excel and Word is pretty blurry too.....I own one....
In any event, if it's something you can live with - then by all means - go for it.....
Otherwise - get the non Retina Macbook Pro - it's cheaper, and it's user upgradeable in both RAM and Hard Drive.
Good luck. -
I want to transfer an audiobook and a movie from my MacBook Pro to my iPhone 4S, and can't figure out how. I went to "Help" and it said after connecting the two devices I should "Click Apps," but I can't find anything labeled "Apps" to click. Help?!!
If you have iTunes 11 on your Mac then you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S, that might make it easier to navigate.
Connect the phone to your Mac and select it on that left-hand sidebar, and on the right-hand side of the screen there should be a series of tabs which you can use to select what to sync to the phone. If it's an audiobook then it should appear on the Books tab for selecting/syncing, and films will be on the Movies tab. When you've got the audiobook on your phone you should get an Audiobooks option in the Music app (you might need to tap the '...' tab at the bottom of the Music app to see it). -
DVD and CD sharing will not let you play or share DVD movies and audio CD's. Does any one know of a way to get music from a CD on a MacBook Pro wirelessly to an iMac?
I cannot find the eMac install disk, and I haven't been able to get it to start up from my 10.3 CDRm (holding down option or c), though I read something somewhere about these not being able to start up from system folders earlier than those they shipped with. I've dealt with this sort of thing several times before, and it always seemed to work to simply use target disk mode.
It definitely won't start up fromt the 10.5 DVD-R, and I'm pretty sure I tried putting the MBP into TM to use its optical drive as well, but it didn't work. But it's worth trying again, and I appreciate your input greatly.
