MacBook Pro (with Retina Display) Question

I was wondering if the MacBook Pro's (with Retina Display) RAM and/or Flash storage can be upgraded by an Apple employee in-store at the time of purchase?

the Retina Display MBP is currently non-upgradable. the SSD eventually may be upgradable, it is on a daughter card with a proprietary connector. the RAM is soldered on the motherboard. the battery is superglued to the case. get the regular upgraded MBP if you want to be able to easily upgrade.

  • MacBook Pro with retina display battery question

I recently bought a 15" macbook pro with retina display, and was wondering if my battery is working as it should.
I usually get about 3:03 hours with brightness at full and keyboard backlight at full with skype (not using it but on),safari with 6 tabs, twitter, and mail.
Oh and im also watching a youtube video on 720p.
    My question is this:
Is the battery life supposed to be like this?
ON mountain lion 10.8.2 and a lot of people are saying i should be at about 5-8 hours.
    Any recommended solutions?
    EDIT
Just after i finished writing this my battery time estimate went up, its now 4-4:50 hours left

When I use my MBP on battery, I turn screen brightness down to about four bars and keyboard backlighting down to a single bar. I usually only have open a handful of Internet apps (Firefox, Outlook, etc.) and spend most of the time simply web-surfing, watching very few videos. And I can get almost 7 hours out of a fully charged battery. When new, I was getting 7+ hours, but with 182 cycles and the fact that the computer is 8 months old now, that's not bad.
Turn everything down as low as you can stomach and you should get a good 6 hours of battery time, if you keep your video to a minimum and use the built-in graphics card (to force this, use gfxCardStatus).
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Macbook Pro with retina display software question

I am thinking of replacing my curren Macbook Pro that is 3 years old with the new Macbook pro with retina display; I need to know if Mac Office 2011 will run on this computer as well as iWorks 09.
    Thanks------Roger

i would refrain from buying retina mbp for now if you are going to use it for office word, etc.
it still not yet retina adapted i hear. wait until everything is updated for retina. which would take few weeks or months. but, you can also buy retina now, and set the display to non retina quality, and office would work fine, then when you dont use office, you can set it back to retina pixels.

  • What cable do I need in order to migrate from Macbook Pro (December 2008) to the new Macbook Pro with Retina display?

It's driving me crazy; I have a firewire, but it isn't compatible with the ports on the new macbook pro with retina display.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Installing Windows XP on a new MacBook Pro with Retina Display.

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro with Retina display and need to install Windows XP on it so that I may run 3 Windows programs.  I have watched a few videos on the internet on how to do this through Boot Camp Assistant, and it says at one point to use the driver CD from Mac to install the drivers.  I did not get any CD's with my new MacBook Pro.  I also saw on some of these boards that said Boot Camp does not support Windows XP.  The people at the Apple store said it can run Windows XP, so I have ordered an original version.
Question 1.  Does my MacBook Pro with Retina Display running OS X version 10.8.3 able to run Windows XP?
Question 2.  How do I install the drivers?

Would this work? And also, what is the VM I need?  Where do I get it?

  • Installing windows 7 on a macbook pro with retina display

    Hi All -
I just purchased a new macbook pro with retina display and I want to install a copy of windows 7 on this machine. I've gone through numersous postings online about the proper way to do this - and I had a few questions as it is a little confusing.
    What I have:
    15" macbookpro with retina display
    External superdrive
Physical copy of windows 7 64 bit
a burned image of the windows 7 disk (as a .CDR file)
Several postings have indicated that I need a flash drive; is this the case if I have the actual disk and the superdrive I can use for reading it?
If not and I do in fact need a flash drive - I have an 8gb with encryption software on it - if I need to make an autoboot for the windows .cdr is there a special way to do this or will the .cdr image work as it is?
    I appreciate any help provided.
    Thank you
    Lenny

Hi - I connected my superdrive but it does not seem to be working - now all I get is a black screen with the prompt - no bootable device; insert boot disk and press any key.
Any thoughts on this? I put an ISO image on my desktop and also created an image on a USB drive - however it has encryption software on it which did not get overwritten so Im not sure if this is why that won't boot.
Does anyone know if the Superdrive can't be used?
My macbook is 3 weeks old - it is all the latest and greatest stuff...

  • MacBook Pro with Retina display in game graphics and SMC

I recently bought a MacBook Pro with retina display and started playing STC2 on it. I experienced  great gameplay with maxed out graphics and 30fps, however recently the fps was down and as part of my trobleshooting I reset the SMC and that seemed to correct the issue. However the computer heats up much faster now and the fans seem to labor to keep it cool. When the fps was lower before i reset the SMC the computer did not get nearly as hot. My question is; is this the OS trying to protect the hardware from overheating or just a glitch?

Well unless you want to go through the hassle of waiting for a replacement unit you can try a few things on your own.
Make sure it is plugged in and charging (Orange LED light will indicate it is charging Green means it is fully charged)
Once it is plugged in make sure everything else is unplugged
The only thing plugged in should be the power adapter
On the left hand side of your keyboard press down and hold the Control Shift and Option Keys
While you are holding down those three keys hold down the power button as well
Hold down all 4 of these for 10 seconds
    After 10 seconds let go
    Try turning your mac on
    If this works problem fixed!
If this does not work try calling 1-800-MYAPPLE (You get 90 days of free complimentary phone support on your product)
If you purchased AppleCare you have 3 years of it and you should have this number on hand it can really help you out
I always advise friends and family to purchase applecare if they plan on having their product longer than a year
You will get 3 years of phone support as well as hardware support
That means if you have any questions or anything goes wrong just call Apple
It also means if your computer breaks it is covered! Meaning no out of pocket expenses unless it is water or accidental damage
You may really want to look into purchasing applecare

  • Does Adobe Photoshop Elements work with MacBook Pro with Retina display?

Does Adobe Photoshop Elements work with MacBook Pro with Retina display, please?
Have searched Adobe website for answer - most recent is 2013 answer, saying no.
Contradicted by a staff ember who only referred to Photoshop, not Elements.
Reason I need it is that iPhoto does not support very high resolution photos - which I have now scanned onto my MacBook and do not want to re-scan!! After 90 minutes at my local Genius bar (lovely folk, very conscientiously searching for an answer...), re-scanning was their final piece of advice.
    Help, please...

    Hello Smis,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand you are having issues with your HP Monitor on your MAC. I am providing you with an HP Support document: Updating a Monitor Driver, where it states under the sub-heading Using HP monitors on a Mac "HP monitors are not supported in a Mac environment. However, newer Macs use graphics with VESA modes and can display to most HP LCD monitors. To do this, connect the monitor to the Mac while the Mac is off, and then turn on the MAC. The monitor should operate at 60Hz. The INF and software for the HP monitor are for Microsoft Windows and cannot be run in a standard MAC OS environment."
This being said all I can advise is that you check to see that the monitor is set to operat at 60Hz and contact Apple for assistance if that does not get your monitor displaying correctly.
I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • My MacBook Pro with Retina display displays power point and not other windows when connected to a projector

My MacBook Pro with Retina display displays power point and not other windows when connected to a projector. Can anyone help out please?

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • What exactly does the AppleCare cover for MacBook Pro with Retina Display?

I purchased the extended protection plan for my MacBook Pro with Retina Display 15" and my question is what exactly does it cover in what kind of situations (i.e. viruses, damaged ports, damaged charger, etc.)? I want to be able to take full advantage of the protection plan since it was a pretty big whole in my wallet.

AppleCare covers all the problems you have with your MacBook Pro with Retina display and the peripherals which came with it (your charger) if you have a hardware problem that you didn't cause. For example, after 2 or 3 years and 1000 charges, OS X says that your battery has to be replaced: in this case, you have to pay for the battery, because batteries have got a lifetime, and Unibody Macs batteries have got an average lifetime of about 1000 charges.
However, if the RAM gets damaged and you haven't done anything to cause it, you will get your computer repaired or replaced for free. AppleCare in a MacBook Pro with Retina display is very important, because near all the parts are soldered into the logic board and repairs are expensive

  • MacBook Pro with Retina Display Upgradable?

    Hello,
I plan on purchasing a MacBook Pro with Retina Display, but was wondering if I could be able to upgrade it's memory or flash memory in the Apple Store in the future?
    Thank you!

I bought after-market ssd's for Macbook Air's from OWC. Those ssd's do not fit into the Retina MBP. I'm guessing OWC will come up with some after-market options but they will be expensive and given that you can already order a 768 directly from Apple, they would have to generate very sizable ssd's to sell them - likely way to expensive. The built-in ssd's in the Retina are supposed to have excellent performance. I ordered one with a 768 myself but these units have not shipped for the most part. I'm guessing supplies of the 768 are limited right now, or at least backlogged. All that is not terribly helpful but may add to the question asked.

  • Why 15' Macbook Pro with Retina Display Shows 4K Resolution?

I discover a very interesting problem when taking a screen capture in 15 inch Macbook Pro with Retina display under different screen resolution settings.
Please see the image below first.
Info on the Left : Screen captured in "Default" setting, which is the best retina setting, everything is huge and very Sharpe.
Info on the Right: Screen captured under the "More Space" setting, which everything looks small and give more space.
The problem is the screen captured file pixel resolution in each screen resolution settings:
The "Default" screen setting showing the correct pixels at 2880 by 1800 which is perfect.
The "More Space" setting is showing 3480 by 2400, at 4K resolution.
    My question is:
Why is that when the display is under "More space" setting result with more pixels?
Can anyone help me to explain this with this please?

I'm not sure what is to explain. "More space" works by pretending that there are more pixels available on the screen than the physical screen has, so it's not too surprising that a screen shot should have more pixels.
