Macbook Pro won't connect to Airport Express, period.

So I just got this brand new Airport Express a couple of days ago, and I've had the darndest time trying to get this thing to work with my cable modem. I've conducted a number of experiments, and have performed factory resets on the airport more times than I care to talk about, but so far nothing has worked. Here is what I've gathered so far:
1) No matter what, whenever I try to connect to the Airport Express' wireless network, I get a connection timeout or some other error. This happens whether I attempt connecting via the Airport Utility, or manually using the airport icon in the toolbar.
2) As a result of #1, it's completely impossible to configure my airport express wirelessly, because when the Airport Utility tries to connect it just ends up giving me an error.
3) As such, I have tried configuring the airport express by hooking it up to my computer via ethernet cable. Once I do that, I am able to configure to my heart's delight, but then when I plug the Airport back into my cable modem, I am once again no longer able to connect wirelessly because of connection timeouts.
4) My connection timeout issues happen whether the Airport's light is solid amber, flashing amber, or solid green. They would probably still happen if the light was fuchsia or cerulean. As far as I can tell, the status light makes no difference whatsoever.
5) I have the most up-to-date firmware on my airport express.
6) I have the most up-to-date version of the Airport Utility.
7) I have run an ethernet cable directly to my laptop from my cable modem and the internet works fine, so the problem is not coming from my ISP.
8) My laptop (15" Macbook Pro running OSX 10.5.8) is able to connect and maintain connections to other wireless networks without any problems.
I'm at a loss. All I want is wireless internet. It can't be that hard, right?
Help!
Thanks in advance.

I had a similarly perplexing experience today. My AE - which I have been using trouble free for months - was blinking amber this morning after a particularly heavy download session. Usually a modem restart fixes the problem...but not this time.
After many many resets I was completely unable to connect to the modem wirelessly. I was able to connect when connected to the AE over ethernet. However after applying settings to the AE I was unable to connect wirelessly or over ethernet.
Setting the AE to use 802.11n (a compatible) did not immediately fix the problem, but I've no doubt that I would still be without luck if I hadn't applied that setting. However after removing all previously stored Preferred Networks, shutting down the computer and modem and then connecting the AE to modem and restarting everything I got green lights on the AE.
My computer still could not "see" the AE using the Airport Utility. The network did appear in my network list tho, so I selected it and was able to finally join the network. Only after joining the network did Airport Utility pick up the AE.
That's almost 3 hours of my Saturday afternoon wasted, but I'm just glad to have wireless internet again.
The key here appears to be configuring the AE while connected via ethernet and then trying out the various settings while it's connected to the modem.
It ***** trying to debug internet-related problems because you clearly need the internet to debug them! (ed: wow, suck* is a banned word!)

  • My MacBook Pro won't connect to the Internet, but my phone and PC will.

My MacBook Pro won't connect to the Internet. My iPhone has no problem doing so, and neither does my PC. I think it's something to do with my DNS, but I'm not sure. My network connections say that both my Ethernet or FireWire are failed. What's wrong with my MacBook? Is there a simple way to fix this?

How do I stream rhapsody from my MacBook Pro to my receiver with Airport Express?

You will need an application like Airfoil for Mac to be able to stream any audio files on your computer to the AirPort Express.

  • Macbook Pro won't connect to WIFI

Help! My new Macbook Pro won't connect to my home's existing WIFI network. The other computers (PCs) are running on it without a problem but when I try to join the network it rejects my password as being incorrect, though it definitely is the right one!

Check to make sure the Caps Lock is off.
What type of wireless security are you using? If it's WEP Mac's don't do WEP anymore and you will need to change it to WPA or WPA2.

  • Macbook Pro won't connect to wireless printer anymore suddenly

Suddenly my Macbook Pro won't connect to my HP Photosmart B210e Printer.  I have tried adding it via IP address, it worked but I can't print anything.  It says the printer is busy and idle?  I updated the software and drivers.  All other computers and devices in my home connect just fine.  It is connected to our wireless router as is my laptop.
I have searched online and done all the solutions I could find and nothing is working.  VERY frustrated as I have to log onto my Dell to print anything.
Thanks in advance for any help!

"It says the printer is busy and idle?"
System Preferences>print and Scan. What is the staus of the printer? Green light for idle or yellow light for in busy? Have you tried power down the printer and paowering it back up?

  • ITunes 11.1 won't connect to AirPort Express

    Hello,
I just updated iTunes to ver. 11.1.0.126 from the previous version of 11.0.5.  Prior to this, everything worked fine, no issues ever with connecting to my airport express from iTunes.  Now that I've updated to 11.1 I get the following message when selecting my AirPort express for streaming:
"An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay Device 'CasaWalck AirPort Express'. The network connection failed"
The AirPort express is a bit older... an 802.11g, running the latest version firmware 6.3 and it's still attatching to my AT&T Uverse wireless home network just fine.  Went into the router admin to verify all is well, and it is.
At the end of the day, it seems to be the iTunes update that caused all of this.  I should also add that with the iTunes update, I also installed iCoud (which I didn't have installed before) and the latest version of Quicktime.
    I'm running
    - Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 on an HP tower.
    - AT&T Uverse wireles modem w/WPA2-PSK (AES) encryption
    - Netgear WNA1100 USB WiFi modem
    - Apple AirPort Express 802.11g w/firmware 6.3
Any help is greatly appreciated.  I really want to get my streaming to work again!

Okay, I'm logging this for anyone who might be experiencing the same issue.  I kept poking around my system until I found the solution myself.
In researching this issue, I kept coming across folks who found an issue involving their Mac systems. Since I have a Windows 7 platform that didn't do anything for me.  Initially I started suspecting an IPv6 compatability issue between iTunes 11.1 and my old airport express.  Found nothing fruitful there (including this so you don't waste your time chasing that down).  The other common theme coming up with others was their firewall.  I came across on thread in particular where if they disabled thier firewall, they got iTunes to connect to their airport express/airplay device again.  However, they were stuck with a choice between this working and having firewall protection.  I personally just couldn't operate without a firewall. So... I kept poking around and literally stumbled on the solution.
    Windows 7:
Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall > Allow a Program or Feature Through Windows Firewall > Change Settings:
    - click to highlight iTunes from the list
    - click Remove
    - click Allow Another Program...
    - Select iTunes from the list and click Add
    - Click OK so save your settings.
    - Test your connection AirPlay/AirPort Express in iTunes. It should work
    - Restart your machine and test to make sure it still works after a reboot.  Mine did.
From what I can gather, the previous installation of iTunes logged some sort of profile or entry into the Windows firewall.  Once iTunes upated to 11.1, it seems whatever worked for the 11.0.5 install was no longer compatable.  By remiving and reinstalling this entry in the firewall, whatever was needed was refreshed and all is well with the world again.
For all the times this community has helped me out, I only hope I can return the favor.

  • My macbook pro won't connect to wifi

Every other computer in the house connects just fine, but mine won't connect.  Airport says I'm connected, I've picked the correct network, can't figure out what is wrong.  This has been happening periodically since I started using this network 6 months ago.  I never had any problems before that.  I can usually connect just fine, but every couple of week it is down for 2-3 days, then it just mysteriously starts working again.  I've tried deleting and recreating airport as I've sen suggested elsewhere, but that did nothing.  Not sure what to try now.
    Thanks for the help.

Restart the router. Wait until all the lights are lit up.
    Restart the computer.

  • Macbook Air (Lion) won't connect to Airport Express (and won't remember network)

My new Macbook Air 13, with Lion, will not connect to my Airport Express.  It throws the following error:  "A connection timeout occured"
This Airport Express is setup as a bridge.  So it extends my wireless router.
The new Macbook air sees this setup as 2 seperate WIFI networks.  It will connect to one (the router), but will not connect to the other one (the airport).  It will then not remember the router, so each time it restarts or wakes from sleep, I have to manually reconnect to the correct one.
For reference.  I have 4 other wifi devices in this household.  A win 7 laptop, an IPad 2, an iphone, and a Macbook pro with Leopard.  All 4 of them are working as intended.  They see one wifi network, connect to it (and move between the two points as necessary), and they remember their connections.
    Any thoughts or advice?

Glad it's not just me. I have D-Link and TP-Link routers set up in the same or a similar way. My iPads, iPods and Windows laptops all show a single SSID and switch between them happily. My new 13" Air was showing two networks (2 SSIDs) and wireless was patchy at best. I changed one router to be N only and that improved things somewhat, but still loosing the network. In order to see which router was being used I altered the SSID of one. The "N-only" router is giving the best coverage with a strong signal - but then it just drops out and the wireless icon shows "Searching". Turning wifi off then back on fixes the connection.
When it comes to internet browsing my iPad 2 is significantly faster than the Air.
I'm also having trouble keeping or attaining connections to my Windows shares, drop-out, even when I still have internet connectivity.

  • My macbook pro won't connect to one of my internet connections, it did in the past but not now. Can't be resolved with airport diagnostics. Help would be appreciated

I have tried so many times to resolve the problem and I have no idea what's up. I disconnected my modem and all of a sudden my macbook won't connect ever since. The only way to get on is to use an ethernet cable.

have you tried telling your computer to forget the network and then trying to reconnect it that way?

  • Windows XP Pro SP2 won't connect to Airport Express

Ok, here's the situation as detailed as I can make it.
    My pc:
Windows XP Professional w/ ALL updates installed (through windows update)
    A Linksys WMP54G wireless adapter (I think it's v1 or maybe v2...it's about 2 years old).
    My airport express:
Set up for OPEN (for troubleshooting, no wireless security)
    SSID: edwards
My powerbook g4 connects flawlessly to the airport, every time. I read a lot on these boards that WEP password issues get in the way. I went through all the iFelix page tutorials, to no avail!
My PC sees the network with 4 or 5 bars, but upon trying to connect it sits there with a "waiting for network" screen. This is frustrating because half a year ago, my pc never had any issues with any airport network of ours. It would connect without a fuss.
I'm baffled and none of the other threads (even the ones that seem to ask about this) have helped out.
I WILL say that one baffling behavior is that once, maybe every other blue moon (and by this I mean....INCREDIBLY rarely) it suddenly connects to the network. But if I restart, it is no longer connected. Or within a short amount of time it loses the connect.
I went to Staples and they suggested that I switch the PCI slot, in case it was screwed up. I did that, and it CONNECTED! For 2 minutes....and then never connected again...
My last resort is to assume that my adapter is fried somehow, and I just have to go out and buy a new one, but if anyone has any other guesses, it'd be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Since your Powerbook connects flawlessly to the Airport Express, I too would assume you have a marginally defective wireless interface in your PC. See if you are allowed to buy a replacement wireless card, with the option to replace it if that fails to solve your problem.
