Macbook Pro won't connect to Android Phone via Bluetooth (Tether)

I am trying to set up the "Tether" app that will turn my Android phone into a wifi hotspot.  I have a Macbook Pro running 10.7.3.
I've done everything suggested in the Tether setup, for using an Android Phone with a Macbook.
Problem seems to be with Bluetooth.  Using the Bluetooth setup assistant, I am able to successfully pair the computer and phone, or so it seems.  The phone shows the pair, and the computer says yay, we're paired.
However when I exit the assistant, the phone is shown as "not connected" in the list of connected Bluetooth Devices.
I see from searching forums that there have been similar Bluetooth connectivity issues with audio devices such as speakers.
Has anyone been able to successfully troubleshoot?
Has anyone set up Tether successfully with a Macbook and Android phone?  I have a Samsung Nexus S 4G.  Yeah I know, time for an iphone.  As soon as the contract is up in June.

I don't think you have to change anything on your home network. It is your MBP that is confused - it appears your computer is trying to connect to the network at your mother's place.
I suggest you go to System Preferences / Network and delete all the networks. (Select the name on the left and click -)
Then restart the computer and setup the network connection as if for the first time. You can use the Assistant to guide you.
(All of the above assumes you are running Yosemite. The details with older OS may be different, but the basic idea is the same for any OS.)

    Hello Rattisate,
Sorry to hear you are not able to connect to Wi-Fi on your MacBook Pro.  I would be concerned about this too.  You can find information on how to troubleshoot this in the following article:

  • Macbook pro won't sync with Treo 650 via bluetooth.

I can only do one sync with Windows XP before the comm ports fail and I have to reboot the computer to be able to do a sync with my Treo 650 via bluetooth. It works well but only once then the ports all shut down of something. Any suggestions would be apprectiated.

Your signature says you have 10.3.x but presumably this can't be correct - could you please make sure it's correct to prevent confusion. 10.7.2 is required for iCloud - your Mac won't be able to sync with pre-Lion systems.
The fact that you have iCloud accounts showing does suggest you have Lion: are they showing in System Preferences>iCloud, or where? You can only enter one there.
Are the two different or the same? You could try deleting both and then starting the setup again from scratch.

  • My MacBook Pro won't connect to the Internet, but my phone and PC will.

My MacBook Pro won't connect to the Internet. My iPhone has no problem doing so, and neither does my PC. I think it's something to do with my DNS, but I'm not sure. My network connections say that both my Ethernet or FireWire are failed. What's wrong with my MacBook? Is there a simple way to fix this?

  • Macbook Pro won't connect to WIFI

Help! My new Macbook Pro won't connect to my home's existing WIFI network. The other computers (PCs) are running on it without a problem but when I try to join the network it rejects my password as being incorrect, though it definitely is the right one!

Check to make sure the Caps Lock is off.
What type of wireless security are you using? If it's WEP Mac's don't do WEP anymore and you will need to change it to WPA or WPA2.

  • Macbook Pro won't connect to wireless printer anymore suddenly

Suddenly my Macbook Pro won't connect to my HP Photosmart B210e Printer.  I have tried adding it via IP address, it worked but I can't print anything.  It says the printer is busy and idle?  I updated the software and drivers.  All other computers and devices in my home connect just fine.  It is connected to our wireless router as is my laptop.
I have searched online and done all the solutions I could find and nothing is working.  VERY frustrated as I have to log onto my Dell to print anything.
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Kim

"It says the printer is busy and idle?"
System Preferences>print and Scan. What is the staus of the printer? Green light for idle or yellow light for in busy? Have you tried power down the printer and paowering it back up?

  • How can I pair an iPad with an android phone via Bluetooth?

How can I pair an iPad with an android phone via Bluetooth? I get the pair message on both, but after acknowledging on both devices the connection fails to establish. I looked around and everything I found had to do with file transfer. I can share access to the internet via Bluetooth and it works with other devices I've tried this with. Thanks.

Sorry.  After re-reading my question I realized that I wasn't clear.  I don't want to transfer files.  I want to use PDANet from my android and connect my iPad for internet access via bluetooth.  I know this is a 2 way transfer of data not very different from transferring files, but I just want to be sure that this is not going to work so I can stop trying as if I'm doing something wrong.  Like I said, I can do this with any other bluetooth capable device/computer I have.  Seems like it's just not working either by design or as a result of some limitation.  I guess 2 way communication with a headset gave me hope that internet access would work.  Thanks!

  • PC Suite - connect only ONE phone via Bluetooth?

Every time I launch the PC Suite to connect MY phone via Bluetooth, every Nokia phone in the house -which was once connected to the PC Suite- gets asked to connect, many times. This is very annoying for other people who obviously have no intention of using the PC Suite at that moment.
I just want to connect MY OWN phone via Bluetooth. Is this possible somehow?
I know the phones can be set to connect automatically, so that they don't get nagged, but that's not a good solution. There should be an option to select which phone(s) to connect.

    Hi,
Is it alright to un-pair your PC's bluetooth connectivity on other phones[On rest of the phones, they can unpair bluetooth connectivity with your pc], so that they wont get connected unless and until they want to connect?

  • MacBook Pro Won't Connect to the Internet

Hi hi. Okay, I've noticed this unusual behavior in my MacBook Pro (Intel Core Duo, 2.4 GhZ, 15-inch, probabl 2 months old now) just last night. It connects to the wireless network but will not load any webpages. If I type in www.google.com or so, it says Contacting "www.google.com" and it stays on it and the page remains blank. I'm writing this from my MacBook which seems to connect fine to this wireless network. The problem persists in the MacBook Pro when I'm on XP (boot camp) and when I'm on Leopard. I've restarted the machine and everything but it still occurs. Prior to me discovering the problem, I think the MacBook Pro was asleep for 2 days (in XP).
I've opened Network Diagnostics in Leopard and it detects the wireless network and everything but then it says it needs a WEP password. But the MacBook can join this same network without a password. I access the university network (from a dorm) so while you don't have to have a password to connect to the internet, you only log in when you open an internet browser and then sign in with the student ID (but its not the WEP password, if that makes sense). Basically, I can't acess the internet if I don't log into the internet and of course even the university login page won't show up. Can anyone please help me? It's driving me nuts. Thanks!
P.S.- I've been hearing other MBP users having this problem but I don't know if I installed the Airport Update, and restarting doesn't help either.

Your OS is shown as 10.4.7, but most people who are having problems similar to yours have later versions of Tiger or Leopard. If you're running a later version than 10.4.7, please update your settings for this.
Some people, including me, have found that setting the router to "G-only" mode solves the problem (at least until Apple fixes the problem in a software release.) Please post a reply or email me as to whether this works for you.

  • MacBook Pro won't connect to wireless network unless tilted

Hi! My MacBook Pro occasionally has trouble connecting to the wireless network in my house, but that can usually be solved by turning Airport off and then back on. Today (very suddenly), Airport disconnected from my network and could not find it again. I tried restarting my MacBook Pro and router multiple times. Finally it was able to connect, but here's the thing: it only works if my MacBook is tilted at an angle. If I try to open a webpage while the MacBook is sitting normally on a flat surface, the page won't load. If I lift one side of the MacBook so that it's tilted at a 45 degree angle, the page will load. Once it's level again the internet will stop working and the Airport signal bars will turn gray.
I've never come across a problem like this before. Everything was running fine this morning. It is so strange and I have no idea what to do! Help, please? Is my Airport dying? Is something loose inside? My MacBook Pro is about 4 years old.

Delete your network from system preferences, network, advanced.
re enter your network you wish to join
If that fails then do a PRAM reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
    and a SMC reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Maybe something to do with the motion sensor
if so try resetting the SMC

  • Macbook Pro won't connect to the Internet anymore.

I am posting on behalf of a friend.
She has a MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011 model. She can connect to Wifi and Ethernet cables fine, But when it comes to using the internet it won't work.
She tried Safari, Firefox and Chrome, and other software that uses internet connectivity doesn't work.
We used different internet connections, restarting the Laptop but it wouldn't work.
She upgraded to Mac OS X Yosemite, see it would fix the problem but again, nothing.
The Odd thing about it is that she has two account in the MacBook Pro, The Other account being her sisters, does get internet connectivity and browses the internet with no problem.
We made a new account and see if that would do the trick but still does the same thing. No internet connection.
Any suggestions how to fix this?

I tried re-installing Mountain Lion 10.8.3 but it didn´t help.
Assuming your can access email ok ?
First, install the OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.4 (Combo)
Then restart your Mac. That will reinstall any missing system files.
    Then try Safari.
