MacBook Pro won't detect Thunderbolt display after sleep
I've noticed a rather anoying bug with Mavericks (or at least this issue only started after upgrading to the latest Mavericks) When the MacBook goes to sleep and I wake it up again, it no longer recognises the Thunderbolt display and USB devices attached to it. The only way yo resolve the problem simply is to remove the thunderbolt cable and re-insert it.
Has anyone else come across this or have any views on how to resolve more permanetly.
Many thanks
Stuart.
I have the same problem and I find it very annoying. There are many threads on the Internet (such as https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5602696) but so far no solution. :-(

Macbook pro won't detect VGA display
My MacBook Pro (15-inch i7 Early 2011) won't detect an external display using an apple mini displayport -> VGA connector using 10.7.3.
All cables and the monitor are fine because my white macbook detects the LG monitor without any problem.
I have read and tried every 'sollution' suggested on the internet, but all fail. Since my MBPro can't even detect my Sony LCD TV (my white macbook does) i suspect it's a firmware/hardware issue.
I want to buy a thunderbolt display, but am not sure if i can spend all this money when even this simple VGA connection won't work.
Has anyone the same VGA detection problem but with a working thunderbolt display connection?

MacBook suddenly won't detect my display, Using Mini Display Port to VGA?
MacBook suddenly won't detect my display, Using Mini Display Port to VGA?
dohdoh1985, I have the exact same problem also! I recently bought a 42" RCA LCD TV. I connected my MacBook Pro to my TV using a Dynex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter that I got from BestBuy. It worked great until I upgraded to Mac OS 10.6.4 and then it suddenly stopped working. Same TV, same settings, same cables, same adapter. Nothing changed since the last time it worked except that my OS was upgraded to 10.6.4, so i am assuming that is the culprit. The symptoms are EXACTLY the same as what dohdoh1985 described; when I plug in the TV, the laptop display flashes (3 times) as though it is detecting an external display and the picture on the TV briefly goes from blue to black for about 1 second then back to blue. The TV does not appear in the display menu / control panel and there is no sign that the MacBook detected it. I went through the usual troubleshooting steps (reset PRAM, checked connections, tv settings, etc) but nothing worked. Other HDMI sources (i.e. Blu-ray player) work fine on the TV using the same HDMI cable on the same port so there is nothing wrong with the cable, the TV or the TV's input settings.
Meanwhile, I can still connect my MacBook to my external ViewSonic monitor at work without any problems. It's just the TV that's not working.
I cancelled my cable subscription a while ago since I only watch shows online nowadays and this was my only way of watching TV shows, so I'm quite upset.
Apple, please help! -
Brand new 15" MacBook Pro Retina - unplugged from Thunderbolt Display and Keyboards today find keyboard alpha-numerics not working; except the function keys, delete key, tab key, command/ctrl/shift/alt/fn and arrow keys; and 7/8/9/u/o/j/l produce cursor nudges.
It's a new machine - and the Thunderbolt Display is meant to work with it. You need to just make an appointment at your local Apple Store and have them fix whatever is wrong.
If you like, you could always try a SMC reset and a PRAM/NVRAM reset to see if either of those will get your keyboard back in working order...

My macbook pro can't detect the NAS after the NAS reboot.
After I reboot the QNAP NAS, my macbook pro can't detect the NAS. I can't find the NAS drives in Finder even I input the new IP address. I remember my macbook pro was able to detect the NAS automatically before. Please help.

Yes. If you have a non retina MBP, look at some options listed here:

MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2011) doesn't wake the thunderbolt display after sleep
for some reason the display when connected to clamshell macbook pro 17" doesn't wake up when i go to wake up the display from sleep mode.
what is going on?The other day I got the blue screen, the fan going on high, and then when I disconnect my thunderbolt connection from my macbook pro - i get a shutdown.
Today I got flickering followed by the fan on high and then again I disconneced my thunderbolt cable and after a minute or two a shudown.
This never happened before. Actually I was suprised to hear about a firmware update for flickering since that's never happened to me but since updating I now get the flicker.
Any ideas?? Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is my work labtop. -
Macbook Pro No Longer Recognizes Primary Display After Boot Camp/Linux Installation
Hey All,
So my old 15" early 2006 Macbook Pro (1,1) no loger recognizes the primary display. I can use an external monitor just fine, but when I go into System Profiler, it's like my primary display disappeared. I reinstalled Snow Leopard, reset PRAM, NVRAM, repaired my permissions, tried to update my mac, but litterally nothing I have tried has worked.
It started when I tried to install both Windows 7 and Ubuntu. After completing the Windows 7 installation, I restarted my computer and it just hung on the Apple logo. I could feel the fans begining to spin really fast and it felt like my laptop was on fire. I restarted my computer, let it cool down, and it hung at the Apple logo again. I rebooted it a final time, and nothing. Black screen. No backlight or image...nothing.
Is this a hardware or software issue? Did a software issue cause my screen to overheat and just die?Hi,
it seems we are both suffering from the same problem. I described mine in https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4299194
Did you get your problem solved? If so, can you tell me how?
Thank you in advance!

MacBook Pro won't detect network printer Canon MF4150
I have a multifunction printer, Canon MF4150, hooked upto a PC Desktop and I have enabled printer sharing. The printer is detected and works fine on my PC Laptop. However, when I try installing it on my 13" MacBook Pro, the **** thing won't show up. It doesn't show up under the Windows category of Print and Fax so I tried to set it up the way Apple has suggested in their support section. It asks you to go to advance and input the IP address and location of the printer and then select the printer driver. I would post the link but I conveniently can't find it right now. The printer driver is obviously not listed on the list, so I go to the Canon website and download a mac version of the driver and install it. When I check to see if it's on the list now, it says MF4360-MF4390, but not MF4150. I thought I had installed the wrong one but I downloaded and installed it again, and I got the same problem. Anyone have this printer or have a similar problem? Another way to hookup this printer would be much more convenient, is there anyway that the Window tab could detect it? Any help is appreciated!

Macbook pro won't boot, or crashes after boot
My 2009 Macbook Pro running OS X 10.5 either has difficulty starting up, or after start up, it crashes. However, it seems to only crash when attempting to stream video from any web browser I've tried using (Firefox & Safari, (Chrome not supported by 10.5)).
When the computer starts up successfully, all seems ok until I try streaming video, usually from YouTube or similar. Then after about 2 minutes of it playing the video, the screen will freeze, audio will continue, and then the screen flashes wildly like a strobe light, or sometimes a checkered/plaid-like pattern appears on the screen in weird reds and blues.
When the computer does not boot at all, it will either appear to be booting, then freeze on the blue screen. Or as soon as I power up, I'll get the grey screen but it will have the checkered/plaid-like pattern on it, and it will stay there forever until I hold the power to turn it off.
Most of the time booting in safe mode will be successful, and from there I will run Disk Utility, my hard drive appears OK, but I have to repair disk permissions a few times before it says everything is OK. Sometimes attempting to boot in safe mode is not successful, so I will boot in Single User mode and run fsck -fy code until I get the "OK" message.
I'm out of ideas, and the problem doesn't seem to be going away. Do I need to erase the disk and reinstall OS X or update to a newer version of OS X?
Thanks in advance for any help.Sounds a bit like a heat issue.
Have you blown the dust out lately?
Get Temperature Monitor to see if it's heat related...
http://www.bresink.com/osx/TemperatureMonitor.html
Sadly, it also sounds like this, which doesn't cover the 2009 MBP...
http://xlr8yourmac.com/archives/feb15/021915.html#MBPvideoRepairProgram
Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last crash & the Startup right after that for clues.
Click on the top line we want, Shift plus click on the bottom line we want, CMD+c to copy, then paste the text in a reply with CMD+v
A few dozen lines should be about right, hundreds or thousands won't likely be readable. -
This is awsome. Cant work on this laptop... Doesn´t detect nothing.

Macbook Pro Retina crashes with thunderbolt display
Whenver I plug the thunderbolt display into my macbook pro retina both displays black out and the computer becomes semi-unrespsonsive (ie I can hear the volume controls however that is all. I need to force shutdown.
I've noticed this problem happening since I installed xQuark (X11) a week ago, I have since removed it and any traces of it but the problem seems to have become worse.

It looks like you are experiencing persistent kernel panics. You may find the troubleshooting steps toward the bottom of the article below helpful. Please keep in mind, diagnosing a recurring kernel panic can be difficult. If you would like to avoid this process, or do not know how to perform any of the following steps, consider bringing the Mac to a Genius at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for assistance. Be sure to ask that, if the drive needs reformatting or replacing, they contact you about escalating your case to a special data recovery service. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).

Macbook Pro won't detect internal drive.
So Last night my macbook pro fell off a desk about 2 feet high. At the time I was running Iweb on it. I thought everything was okay but after about 15 minutes it bagan acting slow. When I would click something it would take about 5 seconds for the computer to register the command. I thought maybe it was more due to being on all day. So I figured I would give it arrest. I shut my computr down and went to bed.
MIdday the next day I turn my computer on and find that it just stays on the boot screen never getting to the log in window. So I decided to do a hardware test with the disk that came with my comp. But the test never finishes. It just keeps going and going. It would almost reach the very end and stay there. SO then I decided to just reinstall with the install disk that cme with my comp too. But the install disk does not detect a drive.
I tried the "single user mode" 3 times and it tells me the drive "can not be repaired" and that it was "modified" So I then proceeded to check system profiler and under ATA it says "This computer contains no ATA devices". Under serial-ATA I see the HItachi HTSS.... under NVidia MCP89 AHCI.
Does this mean my Drive is just dead. I never backed up any of my files. I was thinking about buying an external hard drive from fingerhut since it's the only kind they have up there and they do financing. http://www.fingerhut.com/product/Electronics/Computers-Tablets/Hard-Drives-Stora ge/Western-Digitals-500GB-External-Hard-Drive/pc/25275/c/25299/sc/25844/NT324.ut s
My warranty just ranout 6 days go >_< is there anything I could do to fix my hard drive?
Also could it be a bad connection to the drive and not the drive itself. If I take it to the apple store can they figure out which one is the problem?I was thinking about buying an external hard drive from fingerhut since it's the only kind they have up there and they do financing. http://www.fingerhut.com/product/Electronics/Computers-Tablets/Hard-Drives-Stora ge/Western-Digitals-500GB-External-Hard-Drive/pc/25275/c/25299/sc/25844/NT324.u t s
I can understand that financing is important if you really need to get something but can't put up the full price. That drive goes for about $99 (US). Fingerhut is selling it to you for $150 (that's a 50% markup). If you're financing a product in this range, I'd imagine you really need to look out for what you spend... keep in mind, you're tossing $50 away in doing so. -
Macbook Pro freezes when detecting 2nd display
Every time i connect my macbook pro to a second display it will freeze and I have to use the power button to restart it, but after that it will work fine. Its the latest MBP fully updated, 15-inch. I have tried connecting it to various displays, tvs, etc. and it always does the same thing. I use the included DVI to VGA cable.
Macbook Pro (15 inch) Mac OS X (10.4.10)Fixed problem, appears to be a faulty logic board.
Works fine after AppleCare replaced it. -
My MacBook Pro X.6.8 NO DISPLAY after restarted during software update.
My MacBook Pro X.6.8 after I did software update for 2 files, then restart/rebooted and when it resume back NO DISPLAY, totally black screen. I believed It's working in the background coz when I pressed buttons it makes sounds, so that's good but how can I see and bring back the display? I didnt so anything special. Prior to software update I did update my Adobe Flash for the latest version..
Please help anyone, I need my MacBook Pro to resume back to normal, I have many pending job to finish.. I hope the problem is only the display screen and not worst, coz I can't see and verify.
Thanks.Oh No, still the same.. I follow exactly what you said, still no display.
I hear rebooting sound, like its normal, just missing my screen.
How come this happen, it works perfectly fine, I just want to update coz I had a message prior, so I did, but I just check first what are those needed to update. I saw Itunes v.11 and security patch update, something like that..
Then when it rebooted no more display. -
Slow wifi on MacBook Pro when connected to Thunderbolt Display
Hello everyone,
I've had my MacBook pro (2012) for about a year now, and I bought the Thunderbold Display last christmas.
Everything has been working fine until a few days ago, when I realised that my wifi connection speed was very very low (less than 0.5 mb or even no connection) whilst my other devices like iPhone and Windows pc were doing fine on 10mb.
I tried changing the router channel options but it wouldn't work. Then I disconnected the MacBook from the TB and wifi speed went up immediately...
Consequently I'm guessing it's the TB's fault. Can anyone help me find a solution? Or if i should bring it back for repair? (btw it's slow both with lid open or closed)
Thank you!I am also experiencing very similar issues. For the past few weeks I have been suffering from really poor wifi performance on a Macbook Pro 13" Retina (Late 2012).
I have gone as far as purchasing a new router, changing router channels, encryption, switching back to 802.11g etc and nothing has really helped.
I downloaded a free app called NetSpot to help diagnose the problem. Today I had it open whilst plugging in my external monitor and I noticed a huge difference in signal to noise. The screenshot below shows that difference and I can re-produce it over and over again.
The external screen is plugged in via Thunderbolt. Interestingly only one of my thunderbolt ports seems to work with the screen (not sure if that is how it should be).
I can also see almost double the number of wifi networks with the screen unplugged and the internet performance is much better.
So my conclusion so far is that an external screen via thunderbolt is causing some serious performance issues. I am going to test the HDMI port later today and see if that helps the situation.
