Macbook pro won't install updates

Little bit about my mac: Mac OS X. Version 10.6.8    I have 47GB available.
I have tried updating my software, and it will only update the certain things that does not require the macbook to restart. If I try to update the software it will show the download gray screen, then shuts off and restarts immediately without installing software. I have tried keeping it on the charger, unplugging it. Restarting it then updating. Trying to update one at a time. Nothing seems to work.
These are the updates & versions;
Safari 5.1.10
Security Update 2013-004  1.0
MacBook Pro SMC Firmwire Update  1.6
Apple Software Installer Update  1.0
Thank you for your time!

J_Lynn24,
This might not be the answer to your problems, but you should be able to update manually with the following updates (I'm unsure about the Security Update - you'll just have to try it and see if it will work):
Safari 5.1.10 -> http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1569
Security Update 2013-004  1.0 -> http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1677
MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update  1.6 -> http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1626
Apple Software Installer Update  1.0 -> http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1512
Maybe the Apple Software Installer Update will put things right and you'll be able to get automatic updates again...

  • EFI 2.7 on Macbook Pro won't install

Since yesterday I get a notification about EFI v2.7 firmware on my Macbook Pro (late 2011)
So it downloads the package, then it asks me to reboot, but when I press reboot I get a notification saying "availabe updates have changed".  It then just stays like that, and I can keep on downloading and applying the update as much as I want, it won't actually install it.  I restarted manually to see if it does anything while it boots up again, but no go....  See the attached screenshot
    Tips are welcome

I had the same problem a few minutes ago. Turns out you can download the appropriate update here: https://support.apple.com/en-en/HT201518 and install it manually. For some reason it didn't work though the App Store app.
When you relaunch the App Store app it will refresh and the update won't appear anymore. If you installed it multiples times it will still show in the install history though.

  • 2011s MacBook Pro won't install Yosemite neither reboot or boot into recovery mode.

Hello everyone, I've searched all around the web and didn't find a solution.
Sorry about my english, btw, I'm from Brasil lol!
I have a 2011s MacBook Pro, used to run Snow Leopard until 2 days ago, when I downloaded Yosemite and restarted the computer to run the installation.
During the process, it stopped at 22%, and said: FILE SYSTEM VERIFY OR REPAIR FAILED.
I tried to reboot on Macintosh HD as usual, but it's not possible, I can't unmount the HD to repair it, can't erase it and I'm a little desperate.
I have a good backup of important files on an external drive, so the best solution for me would be to format the HD again, with the Yosemite image which appears to be running at startup.
Command+ anything at startup doesn't work, probably because the Yosemite install is trying to run...
    Any suggestions???
    Thank you!

    Hey Vince,
I have the same or similar issue.  Please forgive my English, as I attended American Public schools
So last night, my MacBook Pro told me hey you want to download this free and amazing new OS called Yosemite?
(I'm adding to your post to hopefully grab more attention and then maybe grab a solution from someone out there..)
I thought yea, no, maybe, okay it's free, they say it is amazing-- why not?!?
So I downloaded and clicked okay to restart and install the new OS.......but it won't install the OS and I get stuck here on this screen.
I have tried restarting about 10 ties. I have tried quitting the install but it won't allow me to boot from Mac HD or my time capsule HD.  I tried going into the menu options above but it won't let me repair or reboot or anything to get my MacBook to work again.
It is pretty frustrating. I went from having a working MacBook Pro to having a nightlight.
Vince- if you get a solution or a fix, Please let me know.
    Thanks

  • Intel MacBook Pro won't Install Flash Player 10 (!!!!)

I can't get the automatic installer to work when I got to a flash site that uses Flash Player 10 - I've run it several times and it says the update completed, but when I test the version of the Flash Player, it still says 9. I tried running the Adobe Uninstaller and then re-installing Flash Player 10, and again - no joy.
I've got an Intel MacBook Pro running OS X 10.5.8
2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    3 GB RAM
I need help with this - I'm a Flash Designer and can't check my sites from the road! AH!!
    Thanks.

Hi, thanks. When you went to the test site, if you were able to see the animation of the Flash logo, that would indicate you have Flash Player Installed correctly and should be working. Without that info I hesitate having you Uninstall and Install again if it is not needed.
If you could just tell me if you saw the animation. If you can, why do you think it is not Installed?
Also to try to save time with the back and forth posts, let's say you could not see the animation. Now that does not necessarily mean that Flash Player is not Installed. It can mean that the SWF(shockwave Flash) plugin didn't get Installed; or it is Installed but not Enabled. This plugin is the Control that works with the Flash Player files. And it must be Installed and it must be Enabled. (Same thing in the PC with the non-IE browsers; in the IE browser it is an ActiveX)
Now, let me know the above so we can perhaps make this as simple as possible:-) For me mostly, since I am Mac challenged:-)
    Thanks,

  • My Macbook pro won't install Windows 7, My Macbook pro won't install Windows 7

Hi, I've been trying to install Windows 7 on my Macbook pro, with no luck. I have been able to create a Windows Partition via Bootcamp. And after the Windows 7 installation guide started to expand my Windows files, my Windows 7 CD suddenly stopped spinning. And after a while, the installation guide said that Windows couldn't be installed. And I had to turn off my Mac.

I would highly suggest restoring your Mac to factory settings.  Back up all files on externL hard drive first.  Then let the be the first thing u do.  Should resolve issues.   If computer is older and has been running under a certain operating system for a period of time it may not like the partition or may have corrupted files that restoring will wipe clean

  • Macbook Pro won't install Snow Leopard

I am having trouble installing Snow Leopard on my Macbook Pro. I currently have Leopard 10.5.8 installed. I contacted Apple after my first issue. The tech support person decided I had a bad DVD & sent me a new copy, but the issue remains the same. When I try to upgrade I get as far as approving the user agreement and then the installation screen disappears. I tried installing using the DVD as the start-up as recommended in the installation instructions. When I do this I get as far as selecting the destination, but the hard drive has the yellow triangle with the exclamation point and says Mac OS 10 can't start from here. I have used the Disk Utility & Disk First Aid to check my hard drive & it checks out ok. Any ideas what I should do?

You could try doing what I call a repair install of Leo--installing Leo over Leo via upgrade. It is possible that you can reinstall Leo this way, and your problem will be fixed, even though you can't install Sno (yet). Also, you could try the Leo install from your desktop rather than having started to the DVD. I can't assess the probability that using this technique will solve your problem. I think it definitely is less than 50%. And, I emphasize that you may not even be able to do the repair install.

  • Tiger to Snow Leopard MacBook Pro won't install

I got the box set of Snow Leopard to update my MacBook Pro from Tiger. I put in the installation disk, and my computer spits it right back out. HELP!

Before reparing disk, make sure your data is backed up*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
Repair Disk can only be done when you boot from the installer CD, and use the Installer's Utility Menu Disk Utility. You can optionally boot with command-S keyboard shortcut and type at the prompt:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
and repeat until it repairs.  If it can't repair you may need to purchase Alsoft Disk Warrior. If it repairs, follow by a:
    /sbin/mount -uw
    and then type:
    exit
Let us know how far you get.

  • I have a 'panic Kernel' error screen appear after my MacBook Pro restarted after installing updates

    Hi,
I have just finished installing new updates, and in order to complete, I had to restart my laptop, as I did so, an error screen came up with all types of jargon on it, mainly, 'panic' and 'kernel', I can not do anything with my mac now, any ideas on how to resolve?

If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot.
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.
Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is on a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select the most recent panic log under the heading System Diagnostic Reports on the left. If you don't see that heading, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Post the entire contents of the panic report — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.

  • Mac Pro won't install updates.

Hi all, I've been having this problem ever since updating from 10.5.8 to 10.6+. Software update restarts to install, gets to the end of installing and then tells me their was an error and the software wasn't installed and prompts me to restart.
I've tried to install from downloaded combos but they just tell me there's an error while installing. It happens when it trys to move the files in to place.
I have done a clean install from my 10.6 DVD but when updating from software update or downloaded combos, it still gives menthe error.
When updating individual software like safari, I have the same issue which is resolved by deleting safari from the app folder before updating and the install works fine.
The one thing that is possibly a bonus is when I restart after doing a software update, all the software seems to have been installed. Only bad thing is. Have no way of knowing if this has been installed properly
If anone has any clue how I can get software update to install properly it would be appreciated. Ideally without having to reinstall my entire system.
    Cheers

Hi Linc, Ok tried deleting the Update's folder.
Repaired permissions and the disk verification was successful.
The 10.6.7 install combo install still fails.
I have retried repairing the permissions from my 10.6.3 installation DVD. This repaired everything apart from it gave some warnings for a hand full of files that were modified and not repaired they are as follows:-
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/Printers/IOMs/LPRIOM.plugin/Contents/MacOS/LPRIMOHelper" has been modified and will not be repaired.

  • How do I reset my MacBook Pro (2008) after installing Mavericks?

    Hello,
My MacBook Pro is very slow, which could be due to age.
However, before I just get a new one, I want to try to reset it and basically clean it properly. I have never done that and hope that this could be the solution to the issue.
However, I simply do not know how to do it.
I tried reinstalling Mavericks but it does not offer this option..
    Help anyone?
    Thank you very much,
    Ingke

You need the original discs that shipped with your MacBook Pro in 2008. If you don't have them, you can call Apple (phone # at bottom of page) and, with your serial number handy, order a new set. Cost will be about $25 including shipping & taxes, I believe.
Once you have your original discs, follow the instructions in Thomas Reed's -> How to prepare your Mac for sale. After you've completed those steps, you'll have a 'clean' MacBook Pro, ready to install updates, software, etc.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Macbook pro won't boot after installing update 10.9.3

macbook pro won't boot after installing update 10.9.3

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
