MacBook Pro Won't Power Up dammit

I recently got my Mac Pro back up and running after purchasing a new battery and a new wall charger. It still will not power up after resetting the SMC and PRAM multiple times.
I'm pretty savvy with my computer for a girl, and please don't take offense, I mean that in the oldest fashion, lol. **** thing still won't start up, and I'm beginning to freak out about the logic board because I recently lost a 5c to that and still have ApplePTSD.
HELP?!!!....

Have you tried everything here:

Is there any signs of life?

You may want to try this.
    Solution A
Start up your MBP while pressing Option (alt)|, Command, P, R until your hear 3 chimes rather than 2 as indicated by apple. This worked for me the first time.
    Solution B
Start your MBP while pressing Option (alt), Command, S
Hold until you see the computer automatic routine. When it finally stops type the following followed by "return":
    fsck -fy
It will probably indicate some problem related to "pcscd.pub" (should be 16 instead of 17). I haven't figured out what this means but somewhere in the Internet i read it is related to scan cards...
More importantly this routine will fix any problems with your HDD similarily to disk repair. When it ends, it will tell you if it has fixed/modified anything. If it has, run the routine again by typing again "fsck -fy"
Lastly, reboot by typing "reboot" (followed by "return")
    Solution C
Start up your MBP while pressing option (alt), command, S
hold keys until you see computer commands scrolling
when the routine stops type the following, each line followed by the "return" key:
    mount -uw /
    chmod 775 /
    chmod 1775 /
    reboot
After which your computer should reboot on it's own.
Each of the above has worked for me at one time or another. Once your computer has rebooted from the DVD you can reinstall OS X. If your problems started after installing 10.5.6, then I don't suggest updating until 10.5.5.
I'm very very disappointed with my 2007 MBP, it started to give me problems after 1 year. had to change the HDD and lately when I isntalled 10.5.6 it suddenly refused to start up., My previous Mac laptop (2003 866Mhz) worked for 4 years without a hitch. Ironically I've had to use it to access the internet and find solutions for my current MBP.
    best of luck

Do not try to use it.  Make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians evaluate it for FREE.

  • 15" MacBook pro won't power up

I'm using a 15" MacBook pro from July 08 running snow leopard. When I went to recently turn it on I realized the battery had died since the last time I used it. After letting the battery charge up to at least 2-3 lights and keeping it plugged in, I tried to power up. When I push the power and release, the fans and drives start then shut off instantly. If I keep the power pushed in it stays on until the light on the front latch starts to blink and everything shuts off. I tried with only battery, only power adapter but no luck. I followed every step on apple's troubleshooting page for a MacBook that won't power up but nothing has changed. I will take my computer to the apple store if need be, but I'd rather be able to fix this myself.
    Any help?

What were all the steps you tried to do? Some people say this but they don't do everything because everything is not in the book:
    Reset the SMC:
    -Pull the battery
    -Unplug the MagSafe adapter
-Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds then release
    -Wait 5 seconds
    -Put the battery back in
    -Plug in the power
If the SMC reset does not resolve the issue make an appointment most likely you are having a hardware issue and probably need to replace your logic board.

  • Replaced HDD, now MacBook Pro won't power on.

Just bought a new HDD, Seagate Momentus 750Gb (link below). Installed it in my MacBook Pro, replacing the old 160Gb drive (also a Seagate Momentus, older version though) and when I tried to boot my laptop back up it won't even power on. I don't hear anything starting up, and the status light on the front doesn't turn on either. Putting the old drive back in and booting up it works perfectly fine, just like it did before swapping drives. The drive is supposed to be compatible with my laptop (MacBook Pro 3,1 Late 2007 15"). The drive is not partitioned or formatted, but this should not affect the laptop from powering up. I have no other computer to try the drive in to see if it is DOA but even if it were it again should not affect the laptop from powering up. Any advice on what could be causing the problem or something that I may have overlooked would be much appreciated.
    Thanks, Chris

    Hi c,
Your options, as I see them:
    1. Contact Seagate tech/warranty support and see what they have to say.
    2. Get an external enclosure to try the HD in.
    3. Find another MBP to try the HD in.

  • Help! Macbook Pro won't power up!

    Hi, I have a new 2011 MBP 15" (1.5 months old).
When its up and running it works fine, and I'm able to shut down and restart it normally. As soon as I leave it off for more than a few hours (usually this happens overnight when I shut down the computer before going to bed)
The next morning the computer won't power up at all. When I press the power button I can hear something whirring/spinning and then 3-5 secs later the power just cuts off. The screen doesn't even light up, I don't get to hear the apple chime at all. Repeated attempts to power up the system get this same result.
I suspected it was due to cold weather (winter in Perth now). I find that every cold morning if i warmed up my macbook placing it near the heater, it will be able to boot normally after it has warmed up. But if ever the machine gets a chance to cool down, it goes into a coma? This happens when I put the mac to sleep and am away from it for more than an hour, it won't wake up!
This is so dissapointing to come from a product that comes at such a premium price. I hope I can get some help on this! It's really really frustrating.
I am reset the PRAM and SMC several times and they dont seem to do the trick. I ran the apple hardware tests, even in extended mode and they all detect no problems. Hellpppp

How cold is cold where your MBP is? In any case take it to an Apple store or AASP. If none availanle call AppleCare.

  • MacBook Pro won't power up. No charger light

    I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro 15" with 2.4Ghz i7 w/ OSX 10.8.4
I did an Apple software update today. It included updates to iTunes and i think a Thunderbolt update also. It requested a system restart so I went ahead and restarted it and left the room. When I came back in about 10 minutes later it was powered off. I tried to start it back up but it won't do anything. The light on the charger wasn't on either. I tried another socket and another charger and same thing. Before the update I had a full charge on the battery and the charger was lit up so I'm pretty sure its not an issue with the charger or battery. Tonight I looked at it again and noticed that the charger light is on its just very dim where you can berely see it.
Has anyone seen this issue before? I have seen a few other posts similar but none where everything just died all at once. My warranty is out so I'm trying to find a way to repair it myself if possible. I use this laptop to do alot of video editing so it gets pretty hot at times. Hopefully its not damaged beyond repair. I have alot of PC repair experience but I've never messed with a Mac other than upgrading RAM.
Thanks in advance for any responses.

    Thanks for your quick response.
I probably should have mentioned this before but I just got it back from repair about a month ago. I had a problem with one of the USB ports not working sometimes. They replaced the logic board and both RAM sticks. I will try the SMC reset when I get home in the morning. I bought it refurbished from Apple and the warranty just ran out about 2 weeks ago so hopefully the SMC reset will do something.
I did try removing the battery connector today for about 10 minutes but that didn't have any affect.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • MacBook Pro won't power up and no charger light after USB device was plugged in

    Hey guys,
I have a late 2012 MacBook Pro 13" with a water damage that didn't cause any troubles (until now).
A couple of days ago I plugged in a Samsung tablet to recharge it's battery on my MacBook. At the same time my screen went black and the MacBook powered off. No usual forced low-battery-shutdown or anything, it just died. From then on the charger light didn't work and I wasn't able to start the Computer anymore. From time to time the charger light was flickering a little bit but way darker than the usual luminosity. The Laptop had a water damage about a year ago, which didn't cause any trouble. I dried and aired it for a couple of days and didn't switch it on during that time. It worked normal for the rest of the year but now I think the mainboard is ******. Please tell me something different, or the truth even though it might be shattering.
Just in case it might be important. I was backpacking in Sri Lanka when the incident took place. It didn't seem like there was an overvoltage or anything like that though...
Thank you guys and have a good day.
    Alex

    Liquid damage is progressive.
Best action that can be done is to take the computer to the Apple store to have it checked out
and repaired if possible and affordable.
    Best.

  • Macbook Pro won't power on, what should my game plan be?

    Hello,
So I have a 17" 2.53 ghz i5 500gb MBP from Mid 2010 running snow leopard (can't remember which os). I have never really had issues with it other than a busted cd-drive. Around October, I plugged my old iphone 4 into the usb port and my computer completely shut down. When plugged in, the green charging light is lit up, but the laptop will not power on. The LED light in the front blinks, starting dim and getting brighter for approx. 1.5 seconds, then abruptly blinks off and starts again. All of the side green lights blink when I press the little button next to them. I tried resetting both the NVRAM and the SMC to no avail. When I press the power button, it makes a very faint sound as if its about to start up, and repeats that sound, but otherwise nothing happens.
I have since bought a new (much less expensive) Acer laptop that I am more than happy with, but I'd like to know if there is any way I can fix it or get it fixed  for a reasonable price, as well as what is specifically wrong with it, in order to sell it for a higher price. Gazelle offered me $50, which is a pretty low blow considering I bought it for over $2000 less than 5 years ago. Should I attempt to bring it in to the apple store, or maybe try craigslist? Or just bite the bullet and go with gazelle...

Do make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a FREE evaluation.  At least then you will be in a position to make an informed decision, whether to sell it as is or repair it.
    Ciao.

  • MacBook Pro won't power up

  • MacBook Pro won't power on

A little problem I'm having w/ my MBP - yesterday I was just using it normally - browsing the web, working w/ photoshop etc--- usual stuff. Then I put it to sleep, and about 20 minutes later woke it up again. After about 2 seconds of it being woken, it just shut off; no panic or anything just turned off as if the power disappeared.
So I just went to sleep thinking I'll figure something out toady... Now for a few hours been browsing around all the topics here, looked at all the manuals everywhere, and theres absolutely nothing anywhere.
When I press the power button, nothing happens - the battery however is fully charged, and the green light is on, on the power connector. I already tried removing the battery and disconnecting the power and holding the power button for 5 seconds -- nothing helps.
    Please advise.

For me however it didn't even get there -- as in pressing the power button had no effect whatsoever
anyways - yesterday I took it to the local Apple store and they sent it for repairs - couldn't figure out what was wrong w/ it..
But at least they were hellofalot more helpful then some of the other support/tech people I had to deal w/ in other stores - I mean here they just took it, got all the contact info and told me when to expect it - nice and simple
