MacBook Pro won't read the sdxc card from Panasonic GH2

I've got a MacBook Pro running 10.5.8. Just took my first pictures/video with the GH2 using a Lexar 64GB SDXC card. When plugging in the USB cable that came witht the camera I got - "The disk you inserted was not recognized by this computer". Does anyone out there have the GH2 that has experienced this problem? Solution? I've written to Lexar but so far they've been no help. I know the file system for this card is FAT32 which is a PC format.  I know this card will work with the Mac...but how is it accomplished?

Your easiest & cheapest way to transfer the camera pictures is to buy (about $10 - $20) a USB memory card reader. Just plug your camera's memory card into it & copy the pic files to your Mac. Quicker & easier than interfacing the camera for pic transfer.

  • HT204384 After I installed Os X Mavericks in my Macbook Pro, it stops readding the SD cards. I used diferent brands of cards and got all the updates for the Mac, but the problem wasn't solved.

    Hi!
I made the update to Os X Mavericks and my MacBook Pro 13' is having some isues; the SD slot card is not readding the cards. Sometimes, when I have a couples of hours using the lap, when I open the finder or any file, there are only the name of the files, but not images and I can open then even if I selected. Then I need to restar the lap to open them.

    Reset PRAM.
Shut it down all the way.
Holding the Cmd+Opt+P+R keys, press the power button
Listen for the "startup chime" to sound three times, and release the keys.

  • MacBook Pro won't read Sandisk SDHC cards since Lion 10.7.1 update

Hi all, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I know there are dozens of posts about SD cards not working with MacBook pros, but mine seems to have started when I installed the latest Lion update.
I have a high-end 13" early 2011 MBP and the cards I'm having trouble with are all Sandisk 4GB SDHC. Two are 'Extreme III's" and one is an Extreme II. The card reader is showing up in System Profiler, and a really old 2GB Sandisk card gets read fine, so there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the MBP hardware.
Similarly, I can read the cards fine via a USB adapter, so it's not the cards that are causing the problem.
I had successfully imported photos from the cards before upgrading to Lion, and also before installing the 10.7.1 update. So, it looks like the problem may be linked with the update, but this is purely an educated guess.
I've tried resetting the SMC to no avail.
Has anyone else experienced something like this?

I've got the same problem. I've got a late 2010 MacBook Pro unibody running Mac OS 10.7.1 on it. I installed the 10.7.1 updated most likely on 8/17/11 the day after it was released by Apple. Since then I was able to read SDHC cards as I shot a number of photos and videos to my cards and they worked fine.
I'm not sure what has changed since then, it wasn't as simple as the 10.7.1 update then it didn't work. This is the problem I'm having below, just started to experience this on 9/2/11. I tested with two 32GB SDHC cards, one 16GB SDHC card and one 2GB SD card. All cards were manufactured by Transcend.
    FAIL:
    * SDHC cards (16GB and 32GB) will not mount and isn't recognized by the MBP via the built-in SD card slot
    * SDHC cards (16GB and 32GB) will not mount and isn't recognized by the MBP via SanDisk 2.0 card reader connected via a short USB cable.
    * If I put any SDHC card into a SanDisk USB 2.0 reader that is connected to my USB hub (I gave it a try in case there was a power problem with the MBP USB system) the card is not recognized either.
    * Even Disk Utility will not see the card when inserted via built-in card slot or a reader.
    SUCCESS:
    * SD cards (2GB) mount fine when inserted either in the built-in SD card slot or via my SanDisk USB 2.0 reader.
    * If I leave the SDHC card in my camera (Canon 60D) and connect the camera to my MBP via USB I can import the images via Aperture.
    * If I put the SDHC card into the memory card slot reader of my HP inkjet printer (it has multiple card slots for different types) the card will mount normally like it is supposed to via the two failed methods above.
I'm also sending this info to Apple but wanted to post here since there are three inconvenient work-arounds.

  • Macbook Pro won't print the first page of any file in any application.

Problem: My Mid-2009 Macbook Pro won’t print the first page in Microsoft Word, Sibelius 6, or in Adobe Reader. My printer is an old Canon MP480 that’s worked for almost 2 years perfectly. As well, the “print to pdf” function results in the same error. However, if I open a new user account it all works fine. To change user accounts would be an extreme hassle though so, if possible, I would like to first remedy this one.
Recent changes: the motherboard of my computer was replaced about a week and a half ago. I printed a lot of stuff from Word two days ago and that worked fine but, already then the print to pdf function was cropping off the first page. At the time, though, I accredited the issue to the word documents being filled with pictures of sheet music that I was printing instead of text.
    Things I have tried:
    Updated Mac software
Repaired Disc Permissions in Disk Utility
    Checked for new printer drivers/firmware
    Reset the PRAM (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379.)

No but it's not a printer-related issue because the "Print to PDF" function also leaves out the first page.

  • Macbook pro won't read discs

macbook pro won't read discs. I have tried resetting the SMC & the computer itself. Any ideas

What exactly happens when you try?
Have you tried both DVDs and CDs?
    Try a cleaning disk.
Otherwise it would seem that the optical drive failed.

  • Macbook Pro won't read Windows XP disc

My Macbook pro won't read either my 32bit or 64bit windows xp discs for installation on bootcamp. The disc spins, makes a strange noise then ejects. It seems like this is a common problem. I have previously installed windows via bootcamp before and it worked fine. Normal cd's are read fine as well, just the windows discs won't read.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
first: put your XP 64-bit CD as far away from your Mac as you can. Apples BootCamp does not support it
Second: I assume corectly that these are Retail or SystemBuilder XP discs, not some Recovery CDs or manufacturere-branded ones, right ?
Third: insert the 32-bit XP CD while in OSX and check with the Finder if it can be read there (checking for the 'usual' folders on it: i386, Support, etc and files: winip51.sp2 etc.).
Fourth: some people round here have successfully used a 'standard' DVD/CD-cleaner disc with their Macs.
Fifth: try making a 1:1-copy of your XP disc. You can use SimplyBurns in OSX for this.
    Regards

  • I am using a Mac Book Pro. Now I am trying to read a LaCie 1 TB external hard disk. The MacBook Pro hangs while reading the LaCie external hard disk.

I am using a MacBook Pro. I have my movies stored on a Lacie 1 TB external USB harddrive. (42 Movies in HD - 538 Gb in use). When I try to read the LaCie external drive, my MacBook Pro is "hanging". Only a "hard reboot" helps to get my MacBook Pro up and running again. The MacBook Pro starts to read the drive, but half way he "stucks". I can read the LaCie drive without any problem om my windows machines, so the LaCie drive is O.K. Anyone familiar with this problem?

The drive is formatted NFTS, otherwise the drive can not handle large files under Windows. And yes, I can see the drive in Disk Utility.
I can even see the files (partly) untill my system is hanging.

  • My MacBook Pro won't read my WILCO, Sky Blue Sky cd

I have an unusual problem...My MacBook Pro won't open my WILCO, Sky Blue Sky cd. I've had to restart my laptop while pressing the mousepad down to eject the cd which keeps getting stuck whenever I insert it. I have burned this cd on my PC laptop and wondered if there's a certain "lock" on the cd after that but I've researched this scenario and found no mention of such a case online. Luckily, this is the only cd my MBP can't seem to read at all. Where other cd's I insert launch iTunes and appear on my desktop, this particular cd doesn't and it freezes iTunes if I test its Eject function on it. My disk utility can't read it either and puts it in a perpetual "Gathering disk information..." mode. Pls help...this is a legally purchased cd and I should be able to burn it on more than one computer I personally own...This is really strange as I've had no other problems with other cd's or dvd's on my Mac...

First, try one of the DVD drive cleaning kits that are available.

  • I configured my iPad2 mail with my current settings. Now my Apple Mail on my Macbook Pro won't accept the password, which I did NOT change. I am running latest Snow Leopard on the Macbook. ANy help?

After configuring my Ipad2 to accept mail at my .me account, I can no longer get my MacBook pro Apple Mail to accept the passwrod.
I did not chnage the password when configuring iPad2 and it works perfectly.
Using 10.6.8 and iPad is running most current update.

Since I upgraded the hardware myself - the warranty that covers the computer is basically nulled.
Warranty is not made void by upgrading memory or storage. If you have AppleCare then you should be fine.
Disk Utility is powerful, but not the most powerful tool out there. There might be other applications (sometimes expensive) that can fix the volume. If your Windows partition works but not the Mac partiiton that leads me to believe the issue is solvable.
Can you read the Mac files from your Windows partition?

  • MacBook Pro won't read audio cds

My MacBook Pro will not read digital audio cds.
It has in the past, but now it seems to have stopped reading them.
I have several purchased cds I would like to get on itunes, but I can't get it to recognize the discs.
I can hear it spinning several times, like it is trying to access the disc, then it ejects it without mounting.
It does not appear in iTunes, or anywhere on the desktop.
It will read and burn blank cds and dvds.
    I havde a 17" MacBook Pro, 2009, with a MATSHITA DVD-R   UJ-868 drive.
Anyone have any ideas how to get it to work again or what the problem could be?

yes it could but probably not after testing ten different CDs right? Got the very same scenarion and asked the question again here, pls see https://discussions.apple.com/message/22423010#22423010

  • My Macbook Pro won't read my Compact Flash card

    Here’s the problem.
Mavericks won’t acknowledge the existence of my Compact Flash card when presented in a card reader (I have tried two readers). It is a card I have been using with Lion on my Macbook Pro for some time quite happily.
There is nothing wrong with the card; it works just fine in our Windows machine and in my camera.
My Compact Flash card is a Kingston 4Gb card. It was formatted in the camera.
The camera was bought approx 2003. Its a digital Pentax Optio 33GS (top of the range at the time shooting 3.2 megapixels!).
On my Macbook Pro 15” (bought new approx 2010) the card does not appear in Finder but does appear in Disk Utility.
The information for the main entry on the LHS in Disk Utility is displayed as follows:
Disk Description: 4Gb Generic Storage Device Media
    Write status: Read/write
The sub entry which appears as disk1s1 on the LHS is:
    Mount point: Not mounted
    Format MS-DOS (FAT16)
I  attempted to erase the Card using Disk Utility; I selected the main entry on the LHS and I chose the format MS-DOS (FAT). This returned a Disk Erase Failed msg “Wiping volume data to prevent future accidental probing failed.”
I then tried again, this time selecting Windows NT File system (Tuxera NTFS) as I have Tuxera installed. This did not work either; it failed with the same error msg.
OK so then I tried Mac OS Extended (Journaled) but this failed as above also.
I am not quite sure why, but when I reinserted my card into my camera, my camera could not read the card so I had to reformat the card within the camera.
Oh yes, I also tried rebooting my Macbook with the card inserted but this made no difference.
I have run our of ideas. All help gratefully received.
    Thank you. Carol
PS ... apologies to anyone who saw my previous post in which I referred to my card as an SD card when in fact it is a Compact Flash card
MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9)
I have this question too (0

Okay, I am making progress here now.
Using the link in my message above timestamped Dec 13, 2013 4:24 AM, I filed a tech support request describing the problem. Because they asked for details to confirm that the problem was with their product, I copied and pasted pretty much verbatim the text from my message above.
Around noon, same day, I got a message back from technical support saying they were sorry for the problem and would provide me with a replacement unit. Two hours later, I got a message from their RMA department saying that because the product has a two year warranty, they needed a copy of my receipt. I located a copy of my receipt for the purchase from Amazon on September 10, 2012 and forwarded that to them.
At this point, I am optimistic that it's going to work out okay. So far, I am very impressed with the responsiveness of Kingston's technical support and customer service departments.
If I actually do receive a working replacement, I will post an update here.

  • My Macbook PRO won't read my Sandisk ultra II card?

I plugged in my PROMASTER DIGITAL to my Macbook PRO in order for it to read my SanDisk ULTA II 2.0GB but as soon as I plug it in and try importing the pictures from iPhoto OR Finder it says: Unreadable files. The following file could not be imported. The file is in an unrecognized format. Although two weeks ago it was working fine, does anyone know why this could be?
    Thank you so much!

As you can't get anywhere with either the Finder or iPhoto I would suspect a damaged card.
    Regards

  • My MacBook Pro won't read SDHC card what can i do?

I have a MacBook Pro of 2010 running OS X Mavericks 10.9.2, when i insert my Samsung SDHC card (8Gb) it doesn't show up on finder or disck utility, but when i go to system information - card reader it shows there. When i insert my normal Samsung SD card (32Gb) it initiate with no problem... i have some pics on this card that i don't wanna loose, what can i do to fix it?

Check and see if it's under warranty.
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
If it is, take it to the Apple store, they'll run diagnostics and replace the battery if necessary.
If it's not under warranty and/or passes diagnostics, you may have software issue that's draining your battery, which could be solved by finding and removing the software. But I'd start with the warranty.

  • Macbook Pro won't read SOME commercial DVD's

I found some people with similar issues, but no one with my exact problem, so I thought I would post it here.
I have a MacBook Pro that I got in November of 2007. Recently I noticed my drive stopped playing certain discs. I did some test and determined that it will play/write pretty much anything you throw at it except for some commercial DVD's. I actually brought it to the apple store and foolisly grabbed some dvd's at random, assuming that NONE would work. The one's I brought mounted just fine. Since I couldn't replicate the issue, I couldn't get much help. He said to try logging into a different user, I guess to determine if there was an issue with my Library. I tried that, it does the same thing regardless of the user.
Basically, some discs spin, and spin like the computer is struggling to read it, then it spits it out. Young Frankenstein and X-Men: The Last Stand, work fine. Children of Men doesn't (it used to work just fine).
I initially noticed the issue when trying to install the digital copies that came with my Back to the Future Trilogy boxed set. Back to the Future's digital copy disc mounts fine. The discs for Part II and Part III don't.
I doubt the drive is busted since so many discs work fine and it isn't ALL commercial discs that won't mount. Only some. My theory is that it's software related. Maybe something with reading certain encoding.
This is the second time I had this problem. The first time I read that verifying and repairing disc permissions would fix it, and it did....but now that doesn't do the trick.
It is consistent though. The same discs either work or don't work EVERY time. I thought maybe the lens needs cleaning. I read conflicting things about using lens cleaning discs in slot load drives so that's a last resort. But I imagine it wouldn't be so consistent if it was a dirty lens. Also, other players I've had with dirty lenses just skipped or had a disc read error of some sort. I don't get any errors.  I also ran the Hardware Test on my OSX Install disc, which found no errors/issues. I wonder if it would have detected my drive as an error if it indeed was a hardware issue? Makes sense to me, but I'm not sure what the Hardware Test tests exactly, if the drive is included in that.
Any suggestions? I saw a thread from 2006 where someone suggested that deleting (Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist) helped him, but I am really hesitant to delete an item from my Library. That just seems like asking for trouble and I'm not sure what my finder preferences have to do with my DVD's not mounting.  Next I will probably try resetting my SMC. I'm not sure how that could help either, but it's a suggestions I've seen floating about and it's easy enough to do.
Here are some of my specs:

      Write Strategies:    CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
Media:    To show the available burn speeds, insert a disc and choose View > Refresh
Thanks. Sorry for the long and overly thurough post, but I thoguht that might help get me better help. Any input is greatly appreciated as it may save me the hour long trip back to the apple store.

I'm also having the same exact issues with some commercial DVDs and music CDs. It continues to read DVD-RWs but around two days ago it stopped reading commercially bought discs.
I've tested with brand new DVDs today (out of shrink wrap in pristine condition) all of which have the same region and have been tested on a DVD player, PS3, and another laptop without any glitches but only some of them played on my Macbook and the others would either spin for a bit and then ejected or it would read them as blank discs where the 'You inserted a blank DVD' message comes up.
I also tried testing older DVDs that used to play fine on my Macbook but only some of them mounted.
I then tried the following cleaning methods:
    - Laser Lens Cleaner
    - Compressed air
    - Credit card with iPhone cleaning cloth
All of which failed to fix the problem so it's safe to assume this isn't a dust issue, the driver have also been very lightly used as I have only watched a handful of DVDs on it and written less than 10 DVD-RWs since I first purchased it in 2009.
My warranty has expired and replacing the drive would cost over $250 which I currently can't afford, therefore I plan to buy a cheaper external DVD burner but that is only a temporary workaround and I still hope for a solution other than replacing the driver.
    Here's my info:
