    Hello,
I have a Apple Macbook Pro 15" model number: A1286 purchased in january 2011.

Could someone asist me and let me know whats wrong with it please.
    Regards,
    Jimmy

It is very difficult to offer troubleshooting suggestions when the "os version" you are using is unknown as each os has their own troubleshooting solutions.
Please describe in detail all you have attempted to do in order to resolve the issue.

  • Macbook pro 17 starts but then just turns off

My 17 in macbook pro starts with the chime, shows the apple, but then turns off before it goes any further. This happens whether using just the battery or just the power adaptor or both.
More info: Below the apple symbol, there appears the spinning icon and below that an approximately three-inch empty bar that starts to fill up with black from left to right but only gets a fraction of an inch before the computer shuts down. I assume that filling bar is indicating the beginning of the start-up process.
I can 'slave' the computer to another working one and see all my data and so forth. But on its own it simply shuts down.
I have tried starting in 'safe mode' but the same thing happen, with all the same start-up icons and then it shuts down. I have tried holding down command, option and P and R together. Same result.
    Any suggestions?
    What is my problem?

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.

  • Macbook Pro Wont Start Up After Update

    Hey All,
I was in the middle of installing the most recent update for OSX when my computer froze completely. I shut it off by holding down the power button. Now, when I start it up, right after the apple, it goes to a screen with some script in the upper left hand corner, and a box in the middle with a picture of the power button telling me I need to restart. I've restarted it several times and it just keeps going back to that screen.
I have booted it up from the install DVD and run disk repairs and verifications, as well as checking the system profiler and utility, and nothing seems worng. I've tried starting it up by choosing to start up from the folder and it still didnt work.
If you've got any ideas, let me know. All your advice is appreciated.
    Thanks!
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I meant to say that the system would have been made unstable after the semi-complete update (if it was in the middle of replacing a crucial system file).
An archive and install would replace all system files, so wouldn't hurt anything. You might have to reinstall any system-intrusive applications (Palm Hotsync springs to mind, if you have that) but it will certainly fix system corruption, if that is your issue.
After the reinstall, if you encounter a complete freeze again, then I would definitely be suspicious of hardware. Possibly the original RAM, but it could be somewhere else in the system, such as the logic board. In those cases, you would have to go back to Apple for repair. (Your Macbook Pro, that is, not you.)

  • MacBook Pro wont start up passing the grey screen, MacBook Pro wont start up passing the grey screen, MacBook Pro wont start up passing the grey screen

; my macbook pro is a 15" . i believe its a 2010 model , i left it on by standby last night . and this morning the internet wasnt working , so then i decided to restart my laptop . and so right now , i start it up . and it gets to the white apple screen when it first load , then all of a sudden it shuts down on me . before it shut down by it self it was on the apple screen , loading and loading . couple of people had said it was the battery but im not sure . i hope theres any help , i appreciated . thanks .

    I found this link.
    http://techtips.salon.com/create-mac-recovery-disc-2797.html
It explains that you must install Snow Leopard to an external drive or LARGE USB Thumb drive, at least 16GBs in size, and then boot the system from that external media and run disk utilities from there on the internal drive.
So if you have a LARGE USB thumb drive or a external hard drive you can continue this to see if the internal hard drive has failed. If not you could buy one tomorrow or take the system into a Apple repair center.
Wishing you the best of luck.

  • Macbook pro wont start from disc

Recently i let a friend barrow my macbook pro and i wanted to completly erase its hard drive and to do that you have to put in the install disc and hold C at startup all of that i understood but the problem is whenever i hold C at start up it just gets stuck at the apple with the pinwhele and just stays there i even let it go overnight and when i woke up the next morning it was still going please help

The correct DVD for your Mac must be in the drive. The last "Full Retail" DVD for Snow Leopard has only 10.6.3 on it, and will not boot a whole lot of recent Macs. The one that shipped with your Mac will always work, provided your DVD rerader is working.
If C does not seem to work, try holding down Option at Startup. That brings up the ROM-resident Startup Manager, which draws an Icon for each bootable drive available. Choose the one you want and proceed from there.

  • Macbook pro wont start with 3 beeps

    hi
Few months back I purchased a refurbished macbook pro (late 2012 model) with i7 processor and 8 GB ram. Now after 2 months I experienced problem with mac - it wont start with 3 beeps. I looked at different articles in net and found about no memory bank problem. I opened the back and changed slots and it seemed to fix the issue. However the issue was recurring few times and ram was changed. Again the issue seemed to have resurfaced. I tried with memtest in single user mode and RAM passes the tests.
What else could be the issue around the macbook pro. Do you suggest taking it to local Apple store to get it checked?
    Thanks

Test each module installed alone while switching slots (power down before switching and remove battery.) Do both modules work alone in each slot? If they do, then it would appear the memory is good as are the slots. So, something else is at play and only an Apple Store has the equipment to go further - make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

  • Macbook Pro wont start up (Apple logo and spinning thing all I get)

When I turn on my macbook pro I get the “tone” the Apple logo and the spinning thing but then the spinning thing just freezes up and does nothing for ever. I let it just site like that for 30 minutes then it just goes to black. It is plugged in so power is not an issue.
I tried to boot up in safe mode and again I get the tone the logo then the bar to show the safe mode then the spinning thing then nothing. I did boot it up via firewire target mode and was able to see the hard drive and all my files on my imac so the hard drive works (I think).
I do have the original install disk and am willing to start the computer fresh but have no idea how.
    So any suggestions???
I also tried to turn on and run the repair mode I think that’s where I held down a key the screen went black and some commands ran then I typed somting like flvr - fv
    Thanks Brad

  • Bad System call. Macbook pro wont start up

    Hello,
I seem to have come across a problem. I thought it happened after trying to install new software through X11. I restarted my macbook pro and received about 15 error messages all containing information about certain extensions not being installed properly. I remember one being about my 802.11 airport but I havnt altered anything to do with it.
When I turned my macbook off and on again I got a black screen with info about about bad system calls, throttling too quickly etc..
I noticed a number of people mentioning the i tunes update which I tried to install before it completely died and it wouldnt actually finish the update so i just force quit software updates. Now my machine doesnt do a thing: when I turn it on I receive the apple symbol with the spinning cog and eventually it goes back to the black screen with the bad system info.
I started in single user and tried fsck - fy and it said everything was ok. I tried to start in safe mode however when I turn my macbook pro on I dont hear the chime- therefore I dont seem to be able to enter safe mode.
If anybody can help ASAP it would be much appreciated- got lots of work that needs doing on it:)
    cheers

  • Help! Macbook pro wont start!

So I have recently replaced my old HDD with the new Corsair 128GB SSD and everything was great. The installation was fast and it worked flawlessly.
One fine morning, it refuses to start. I press the power button and it would just start for 1 sec then turn off. I opened the macbook pro up and put back the old hdd just to see whether its the SSD but even then it wouldn't start up.
Any idea what could be wrong? I have double checked all the wires and everything which looks fine. Please help!

Insert the Applications DVD that came with the MacBook, press D key when your computer starts and run the extended test two times. If you haven't got a DVD, press D key when your computer starts

  • 2012 Macbook Pro wont start or charge

So my macbook pro 13in was around 20% before i went to work then when i came back to it, The Macbook pro would not start and so i pluged it in and the charger light flickerd from green to amber back and forth. I then tried my charger for my older 2009 Macbook White polycarbenite and when i used that ones charger the light just stayed off but i did know that ones charger did work with the Pro. My guess is the logic board is fried some how or the battery has faild but my guess would be that it would still be able to start even with a bad battery. The Mac will not make the start up sound or the led trun on.. on the frount of the computer.
    Thanks for your help
    Gino

Connect the charger that came with the machine to a good power source with not a lot of other items on the same power line from the circuit breaker.
Connect it to the Mac and perform a SMC Reset here and let it charge up for a few hours or overnight before using it.
    1. SMC reset
    >>Instructions to reset SMC
Disconnect other non-Apple and external hardware except (if applicable) a mouse and keyboard until your finished repairing your machine.
Problems solved: Fans blowing with no activity, machine is not booting, power button pressed and nothing happens, problems with indicators, Magsafe has wrong lights, battery is not charging, monitor and graphics issues etc.  If the battery is not charged (from like letting it sleep too long), let the Mac charge up awhile afterwards.
Will not hurt the machine resetting if it's not broken.
    Other related hardware problems (optional):
Check battery status: Hold option/alt key down while clicking on the battery icon in the menu bar, top right corner.
Magsafe: Use the correct/matching power supply charger with your Mac, not a less powered one from another Mac.

    Magsafe problems   Magsafe problems more
No power on still? Data Recovery options: Is my personal data lost?  Find the closet Apple repair/distributor
If that doesn't work, please make a appointment with Apple for a repair or evaluation, also if you haven't yet purchased AppleCare you should do so as well as a couple of backup drives.

  • MacBook Pro wont start after 10.8.3 update

So I tired installing the 10.8.3 update from the app store  and every time I did it I got the response that it wasn't downloaded properly, first on bad Internet at my house, then at school I used the really fast Internet and it was the same problem. Then I came here found that a bunch of people had the same problem, so I downloaded the combo update from apple.com from a recommendation by someone here
Now its one big shitstorm, after taking a half hour to install on my MacBook Pro ( its a 13 inch i got last august so its brand new),  during the install I was on chrome and it kept freezing about 75% of the install complete I tried to shut every program running, that just froze the entire computer for about 5 minutes, let it finish and it said it needed to restart. It said that something couldn't close and it needed to be force quit, so I did that and let it restart.
It turned off, and started the loading screen with the apple and the gear below it spinning, then it froze, a half hour later it didn't change, i shut it off by holding down the power button and tried to start it again now it will go until the screen with the apple and spinning gear comes and then it will just shut itself off after about 2 minutes, tried safe mode, the bar at the bottom will load about 40% then it shuts off,
What do I do now, anything on my own? can i try and take it into the apple store or did I probably loose everything?

It sounds like your internal drive is failing, or has failed. What backups do you have?
