MacBook Pro(WWDC 09 Version) Trackpad Clicking

I just got a new MacBook Pro and want to make sure that my trackpad is working correctly. I love the design of it and it works great in all areas of it -- except the very top. For the top finger's height on the trackpad it is nearly impossible to press, especially in the corners. Anyone know if this is normal behavior or not?
Thanks,
Sam

Travis--
Thanks for letting me know that. I always assumed Macs didn't have it, until I was messing around in the System Preferences on my new machine. I thought the tap-click thing was new along with all the other multi-touch functionality, in addition to the "button-less" trackpad.
I'll have to enable this on my wife's white MacBook.
In any case, back to the original thread: this tap-click thing is certainly the solution to the button issue, although it could cause problems if you accidentally rest your palms on the trackpad while typing. Also, one other commenter mentioned clicking in the lower right or left in order to get the right-click-- but you can also simply tap with two fingers simultaneously to right-click, if you find that easier.

  • MacBook Pro and lapses in trackpad/click response

Ever since I got my reconditioned MBP 15" direct from Apple, I've had the following trackpad/click problem: for seconds at a time (sometimes up to 10-15 seconds), the trackpad will not respond to taps or clicks; this occurs in all programs and sometime seems to be remedied by clicking in a different part of the screen and then going back to the desired spot to click (not sure, though, whether simply time passing is what makes function return).
At the suggestion of tech support, I took this issue to a Genius. We booted via a different OS and the problem seemed to disappear, so we determined that it likely was not a hardware issue. He recommended an Archive and Install, which I performed but to no avail...still having the problem!
Has anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions?

just a thought, your genius probably already looked into it, but is the ignore accidental input checked. and also sometimes if I get a piece of dirt or something on my track pad it wont respond correctly
don't know if that helps but something is better than nothing, good luck

  • I see that i have a problem after installing my new hard drive on my macbook pro mid 2009 version. I put a new hard drive, with all of my information from my old drive installed on it, into the computer. but now have the blinking question mark folder

i see that i have a problem after installing my new hard drive on my macbook pro mid 2009 version. I put a new hard drive, with all of my information from my old drive installed on it, into the computer. but now have the blinking question mark folder. I see that it means that it isn't reading the new hard drive.
did i miss a step between transferring all of my information from my old hard drive to the new hard drive and installing the new hard drive into the computer. I believe that i installed properly. it was quite easy.
    thanks for your help

It means there is no bootable system on the drive. If you still have access to the old drive, then I suggest you boot from it then clone it to the new internal drive. Use OPTION boot to boot from the Recovery HD on the old drive:
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
         1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
             button.
         2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
         3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
         4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
             to the Destination entry field.
         5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
             the Source entry field.
         6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Source means the external old drive. Destination means the new internal drive.

I have a macbook pro 15" 2007 version 10.6.8 and try to up date to mavericks and it's not allowing too. what should i do?

What does it tell you. If it says it isn't compatible, then you don't have a mid/late 2007 MBP. You might have an early 2007 MBP, which cannot run Mountain Lion or Mavericks.
You can check here to see exactly which MBP you have: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4132
If you hold down the Option key and select System Profiler from the Apple Menu, it will display the model identifier under the Hardware Section.
It must be a macbookpro3,1 or later.

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • My macbook pro i7 (2011 version) has a loud fan and high cpu % when I have Skype on or when I am on Safari. Help please!

My macbook pro i7 (2011 version) has a loud fan and a high cpu % when I have Skype on or when I am on Safari. My laptop would sometimes freeze for a while and it is usually hot. Has anyone else encounter this problem and know how to fix it? Thanks!

Skype is a very resource intensive activity...it has been reported on here users are seeing cpu temperatures on the order of 80-85 °C, within the limits of the cpu, but still hot to the touch.
Make sure nothing else is running so you keep the thermal load down.

So what you want is to be able to boot from OS X and retrieve your files
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
Of course if it's not booting up, it's easier to fix in place

...so I am trying to boot from a USB recovery drive but when I select it nothing happens it just goes to the restore options
"Recovery HD" is a partition on your boot drive which you option or commnad r key held at boot time to get into and then repair the Macintish HD partition.
If you have this on a external USB thumb drive, then that's all it is, no OS X, programs or files.
If your talking a USB external drive, it has to be a OS X bootable clone made with Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper and the option key held at boot time gives you that boot option.
    Most commonly used backup methods
So what your saying is you have a external clone and by holding the option key down at boot all you get is it directly going to Recovery HD?
There is no Startup Manager option to choose what to boot from?
This could mean Apple changed something, or your external bootable clone isn't one, or the wrong software used so it's not being recognized by Startup Manager as a bootable option.
What did you use to make the external OS X USB bootable drive?

  • Can't connect my MacBook Pro (2011) and the TrackPad.

    Hi,
The TrackPad isn't recognized. Ran the firmware update - with no success. The TrackPad works fine with my iMac - same distance. Any suggestions?

I'm guessing your Trackpad is paired to your iMac, so it will not be picked up by your MacBook Pro until you dis-assocaited the Trackpad and iMac.
To do this, fire up your iMac with the Trackpad nearby.
open System preferences and select Bluetooth preference pane
Your trackpad should be listed in the bluetooth preferences.
Click the minus button or use the Disconnect item from the bluetooth menu.
    Shutdown the iMac.
Try pairing with your MacBook Pro.

  • Macbook Pro's keyboard and trackpad aren't functioning well, please help, thank you!

Dear Apple Support and Apple Communities,
hopefully this question will be easily understood and will be answered with answers that can help, useful and beneficial. I will explain the problem, story that I guess began the problem, specs and information of the Notebook and so on.
I love products produced by the brand, Apple, but they can get broken, ruined or destroyed. So, I do try my best to take care of devices that I have well. Although, my father bought a Macbook Pro last year, around November or December, 2013(I THINK). I don't think it's very old, maybe 3 - 5 months, but it should be in a good condition. I have dropped it many times, hopefully that won't effect the problem. Now, the problem, the Notebook is a beautiful device that I would love to keep using, but I don't really know how to use it properly and in the CORRECT/RIGHT/GOOD/SAFE way. If possible, can you list methods/ways to do those things? If so, thank you! Anyway, back to the topic, the Notebook's keyboard has a problem, some keys aren't responding, especially the alphabets/letters, I guess some other keys worked because I did the PRAM RESET. Anyway, the trackpad is also not functioning well, sometimes, when I right click the trackpad or when I click the entire surface with one finger(RIGHT CLICK OR SOMETHING ELSE), it would left click, I found a way to fix is, put the Notebook to sleep by closing the cover, hopefully that's alright. Anyway, it all began, I guess, when I was brushing my teeth. I dislike to waste time, so I used the Notebook and brushed my teeth simultaneously. I guess Saliva was being produced because of the acidic substance(TOOTHPASTE)? Anyway, my mouth had a lot of liquid in it, could have been Saliva, water and toothpaste. So, Physics, natural forces, Gravitational force occurred, some of the liquid left my mouth and onto the keyboard. I didn't panic because I think I heard that keyboard could not or did not suck in a lot of liquid, but I did clean it up. Anyway, the Notebook including the keyboard and trackpad were functioning like normal. I guess after three hours, something happened to the Notebook. I think I was using Safari in FULLSCREEN MODE and suddenly an application or software for another application appeared. It was requesting permission for an update, I think. I updated it and suddenly, the Notebook went haywire. Probably not immediately, but I guess the Notebook did go haywire. I tried searching for ways to fix it, but not much could fix or solve the problem. Hopefully your answer-s will fix or solve the problem, thank you.

    INFORMATION
The Notebook has a few dents, I guess. I tried to open the keys to check for toothpaste or liquids. My brother told me that toothpaste is dense, probably the answer? My other brother told me that the keyboard and/or trackpad are/is "shocked"(LIQUID AND ELECTRICITY, NOT SUCH GOOD COMBINATIONS). Hopefully this is enough to be counted as detailed and informative. Thank you for your time! Take care!

Take it to an Apple Store for diagnosis and repair. This will not be free, dropping the Mac and dropping liquids on it are not covered by the warranty.
