Macbook pro13 or air 13?

I am a second year uni stdudent studying graphic design, I was using PC but it seems I need a Mac for my following years.
I need my new Mac run some design's software like photoshop illustrator and so on, so which Mac is best for me?
I like the weight of MBA and its higher resolution, but MBP is more powerful and can be upgrated in the future.
Which one is better for me?

Between the 13 inch MacBook Air and Pro, there is not a lot of difference now. The Air now has 8GB RAM option, so the MacBook Pro has only a better processor and hard-drive space, although if you need more space the Air now has a 512GB option so even in this area it is catching up.
I would say the MacBook Air will work fine for you and would recommend it unless you are really certain you will upgrade it in the future.
Although it seems Apple are looking at phasing upgradeability out at least for notebooks anyway. Plus Macs hold their value very well and there is a large market for 2nd hand ones. In a couple of years you could probably get close to 50% of what you payed for your Mac provided it's kept in good condition.

I have a tesco router and an external hard drive attached to it as a network drive (shared) for my macbook and MB-Air. Have no problems with my MB accessing it, but with MB-AIR it says -  'the version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported. pls contact your system administrator to resolve the problem'. MB-Air uses maverick downloaded yesterday - upgrade from mountain lion. MB uses snow leopard still, as i am quite used to it and am thinking of upgrade if mavericks work fine on air. Also have parallel on snow leopard but it is no longer supported according to mac website - if i upgrade am i going to lose my parallel and will have to buy a new one!!!

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

My microphone on the macbook pro13 always recording the fan sound on bootcamp. So what can i do?

The answer is, either you are not telling us the whole story, or something else has changed.  Perhaps your iPad is jealous of your iPod and is secretly forcing your iPod to reset it self.  And if you believe that, I have this bridge for sale....
Now where is my tin-foil hat.....

    Thank you so much community.

It will run. If you really want to game, off course you should but a 15 inch MBP and get you're Steam on, or buy a *couch* PC, or gaming console.
You could get all next-gen consoles for the price of a new MBP (well maybe all of them)
And eveyone of these options can play the games you want!

  • Macbook Pro or Air for business & personal use

I am interested in the 13 inch.  I have only used Windows PCs so far.  I primarily use Microsoft Outlook and Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).  I VPN into my corporate network and browse the Internet.  I have Outlook open all the time along with an Office application and a couple of browsing sessions.  I would also like Windows 8 installed, if possible, side by side.  I rarely watch movies on my laptop and never play games.
I am confused (due to the deluge of information online) between Macbook Pro (not Retina) and Air.  I am looking for recommendations alongwith a few answers.  Is 4 GB sufficient for my multi-tasking needs?  Is 128 GB enough (my disk usage is very very minimal, less than 25 MB) but I will be installing Microsoft Office and (optionally) Windows 8 (not mandatory)?  I use a DVD drive very rarely - will an external drive be good enough if I go with the Air?
PS:  Best Buy has a $200 discount on Air and a $100 discount on Pro which initiated my interest to buy a Macbook.

Why am I not surprised that you would say that. Please read the question, he asked for people's opinion on whether to get a MacBook Pro or Air.

  • Macbook Pro or air for a college engineering major

Hi.  Im looking for a new laptop for college and was wondering which would be better for a mechanical engineering major: macbook pro or air?  I will be running programs like solidworks and auto CAD and was wondering if i needed the extra processing power of the MBP.

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air forums. This is the forum for the 13” white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

This is not the place to ask such a question.  This message board is only for "techincal issues" dealing with Macbook Pros.

  • Macbook pro to air

is there a way to trade my macbook pro to macbook air in apple retailer?

No. Your best bet is to sell it yourself, that way you'll get the most money. There are sites that purchase used Macs, but again you'll get the most money selling it yourself. Apple does not due trade-ins, they have a recycle program, run buy a third-party, but you'll only get pennies on the dollar if you use that.

We also have a windows based laptop which works perfectly well.
My Iphone works well too !
    Can someone assist.

Go into your System Preferences > Network  Advanced>TC/IP and turn off IPv6

  • Macbook Pro or Air for minor photo editing?

I have been an andriod/windows user all my life, but getting my Iphone 5s i've found that I really love the way Apple sets up its OS and am wating try a Macbook try its OS. I do a lot of minor photoediting basic things like using the blur tool, changing the hue and satuiration, and maybe doing some selevtive color. I don't need an iMac because I still have a pretty beffy desktop but I would like a laptop to carry around when I am out getting pictures or editing at someones house. Would I be able to get away with a MBA, or will I have to at least have a MBP to run Lightroom/Apeture with a little PS/Gimp for the blur tools?
Edit: I guess I should just mention I would just be getting the base model of either seeing as this is my first Mac.

I've got a basic Macbook Air that I use for all my image editing and all my graphic design and I've had less issues with these computers then I do using a windows based machine. I find the software runs a lot smoother on here. The only issue you might come across is the screen being small. I like smaller machines, but it makes drawing/editing large pieces difficult sometimes.
Just make sure the editing programs will run properly on a mac and just chose the computer you like better.

  • Macbook pro or air. Which to buy

13 inch Macbook pro retina 8gb/256gb or fully loaded 13 inch air 256gb? I want to get into ios app development so I plan on using xcode quite a bit. Also im a compsci major and will be graduating  in december. I plan on doing a lot of programming in various programming languages. Other uses will ideal college student uses ie writing papers surfing the web etc. Im leaning more towards mbpr because i keep hearing non retinas will be a thing of the past very soon. Also the mbp is supposed to be a little more powerful than the air which i think will be a plus when programming. i know this is a FAQ but i had to ask due to my specific needs.
Also i WAS going to wait for the big updates on mbpr but intels delays are a bit harsh. Idk if i can wait til mid 2015.
    Thanks in advance

    willecicci,
programming, writing papers, surfing the Web, &c. can all be done on older MacBook Pros. Both Mavericks and Yosemite (and thus Xcode) can be run on MacBook Pro models going back to 2007. If you’d rather wait for a big Intel update, then you could purchase a used MacBook Pro now, and sell it once a new MacBook Pro is offered with your preferred Intel hardware.

  • MacBook Blowing Hot Air onto Display

Hi - I just received my new Core 2 Duo 2GHz MacBook (Black). I transferred all the data from my old PowerBook to the MB using Firewire. I noticed that the machine was getting quite hot and the fan turned on. Then as I was installing Windows XP using Parallels, the fan was at full speed and I confirmed what I though was happening earlier during the data transfer - the vent from the fan is located below the hinge and blows hot air almost directly onto the bottom portion of the display (near the center where the "MacBook" logo is engraved). The first thing I thought of was this design is just nuts! Why would anyone blow hot air at the display by design?!? I'm a little concerned that this could result in longer term damage to the display. Anyone have any insight into this and the potential impact? Is it the same on the MacBook Pro as well? I just checked my old 12" Powerbook G4 and the vent is smaller so I guess lesser heat was being blown at the display.. also, I get the feeling that the C2D chip does run a lot hotter than the older chips (to be expected I suppose cos there are 2 cores after all with more processing power)...
    Thanks,
    nirmal

Make sure your vent is not blocked with pastic.

I upgraded to a MacBook Pro because of excessive fan activity, caused by the MacBook's weak graphic circuit. Just running a simple 3-D poker application would make the fan run wide open. No problem with my MBP. It's nice and quiet.
