MacBook Proand Windows Vista networking

Hello, is there a way of sharing files in between Windows Vista and MacBook pro ( 10.4 ) ? Thank you

Try the software called MacDrive 7. This will allow Windows to read and write to the Mac partition. Mac can read an NTFS partition, but cannot write to it.

  • Time Capsule and Windows Vista network

    Hi everyone,
    Just looking for some advice/feedback.
I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro and love it. Now considering buying a Time Capsule - 3 reasons - extra storage space, allow printing from all computers, and ease of backup with Time Machine.
I currently have a DLink wireless modem/router that is wired to a Windows Vista PC, a windows laptop and the new Mac.
My question is: How will the Time Capsule fit in with everything? I am guessing that the DLink will remain wired to the PC, and the Time Capsule will be plugged into the DLink. Will I gain extra speed with the Time Capsule and how do I allow it to take over the wireless network?
Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Welcome to the discussions!
    "When I try

Are you saying that the Vista PC will connect to the wireless network, but can't get an internet connection, or it can see the wireless network, but can't connect?
If it cannot connect to the wireless network, is there an error message displayed? If so, what does the message say?

  • MacBook with Windows Vista Shared Folders

So, my question and the problem is, that I can't seem to make my MacBook connect to a Windows Vista shared folder (Default Public folder, or any other folder). I've tried pretty much everything on the windows end. I've reset the sharing options, started from scratch, and my MacBook still can't connect to it. When I use the smb://192.168.1.199 (windows machines ip), it hangs for maybe a minute, and gives me this message: "Finder can't complete the action, because some of the data in "smb://192.168.1.199" can't be read or written (Error -36)." Sorry for the typos, but i'm translating from Finnish to English.
Also, the funniest thing is that it worked previously, a week ago to be exact, and then, one day it just stopped working. I've tried almost anything that I can think of. Every setting is the way they were, when it still worked. Does anyone of you guys here, have any idea what could be causing this anomaly?

    Hi:
till now I did a great progress, I get see the windows vista server from my MAC (even when I get change a rule in the norton filrewall) and now the windows ask for a user and password, I create a user like I have in the MAC with the same password but all the time reject the connection, look I put the wrong password but isn't
    Any idea?

  • Macbook installing window vista

    Hi everyone,
I am new to Mac and just got a new Macbook, so I decide I will install a Window Vista on it so I can have something as a backup if I can't get used to Mac OS. However, when I install the Window using bootcamp, I forgot with partition is the one with Mac OS on and I choose the one that say "74.9 GB[Bootcamp]" and install the window Vista.
The problem is, after the comouter was restart, it can only recognize Window Vista and there is no way that I can choose the Mac OS. Did I choose the wrong partition to format or it is normal?
And the worst problem is I couldn't reload the Mac OS on the computer again, the computer won't read the disc nor can I go to the BIOS setup manuel to boot from the installation disc.
Please kindly reply, thanks a lot.

Might want to sign on to MS and d'load the release candidate for Windows 7, it's open public beta and good until 3/2/2010 that's month/day/year. Very nice OS and should run great on your Mac.

  • Apple Mail on Macbook via windows domain network and microsoft TMG

    Hi folks.
We run a windows network with server 2008 tmg, dcs, and exchange 2007.
We have a few mac clients on our internal network. They log on locally but have all the correct network settings etc for proxy, network and internet access. Everything works fine through TMG including apple mail to our exchange server, and web browsing etc.
The one thing that isn't working is apple mail to other mail providers. Specifically Gmail.
I've created an access rule for testing purposes to allow all outbound traffic from a macbook pro. It still doesn't work, with the following being the only error:
    Denied Connection RHSTMG 21/05/2010 10:27:07
    Log type: Firewall service
Status: An ingoing packet was dropped because its destination address does not exist on the system, and no appropriate forwarding interface exists.
Rule: None - see Result Code
    Source: Internal (10.1.0.81:5353)
    Destination: External (224.0.0.251:5353)
    Protocol: Unidentified IP Traffic (UDP:5353)
    Additional information
•Number of bytes sent: 0 Number of bytes received: 0
    •Processing time: 0ms Original Client IP: 10.1.0.81
Someone on another (microsoft) forum said this:
224.0.0.251:5353 is RendezVous protocol, which is used by Mac OS for locating services. it is multicast protocol and it's only purpose is locating things.most it has nothing to do with Google Mail.
The mac has entirely unrestricted access to everywhere (in theory).
Gmail account through windows 7 client using outlook is fine by the way.
Nothing else is denied or refused when looking at the live logging.
Any help with this would be great.
    Thanks
    Dave

I had this problem too, but I found a post burried on the web that said to add " p06- "  (without quotes) before the imap and smpt server names and that worked:
    p06-imap.mail.me.com
    p06-smtp.mail.me.com
Everything stays checked, SSL for both, authentication and use same username and password checked.

  • Windows 7/Windows Vista Network Printer Compatibility

I have Officejet 5610 USB connected to new PC running Windows 7 which is network host computer. Printer was previously connected to a host PC running Windows XP. My networked PC running Vista could print when XP PC was on. After I replaced XP PC with new PC running Windows 7, I haven't been able to get the Vista PC to recognize the shared printer. I've downloaded drivers and ran updates on both PCs. I've also uninstalled the printer from both PCs, reinstalled, ran updates, and still can't print from the Vista PC. Is Officejet 5610 able to be networked between Windows 7 and Vista?

Windows 7 host computer sharing printer with Vista 64 bit.  Wireless network was working until recent updates (the culprit may be IE9).
Now Vista cannot find the printers on the network.  It can see the printers on the Windows 7 host computer, but when I try to connect to the shared printer I get the message that I need to install printer.  (I have reinstalled the printer drivers).  When I click install printer the circle spins around awhile and I get the following error code.  "Windows cannot connect to the printer.  Operation could not be completed (error 0x000003e3).
Another weird thing going on.  A couple of times I was able to find the printer when I was in the Vista Administrator account.  I had to put in the password of the administrator account for the Windows 7 host computer.  I then went to the Standard User, and did not have the connection with the standard user (the printers did not show up for the standard user.)
As soon as I logged off or restarted my Vista computer the printers on the Vista Administrator account were no longer available.
This is driving me crazy, and I have spent two weeks working on it.  Your help will be greatly appreciated.

  • HT4859 Is there a simple  set of instructions and explanations anywhere providing for my Bootcamp on XP iMac and Macbook and Windows XP network   setup.I am not a computer genius.

Is there a simple set of instructions and explanations to assist me set up my iMac with XP in Bootcamp, my Macbook, and my  windows  laptop running XP also.My computer knowledge is less than expert.

Hello, the OfficeJet 6500A E710 is a ethernet only product.  The OfficeJet 6500A Plus has wireless support.  Since the printer's front panel network settings do not have the wireless options, I suspect you do not have the Plus model and that is why you cannot setup wireless.  Do you have the 6500A Plus or 6500A?

  • Windows Vista Networking Problem

I have a wireless network at home and I have never experienced problems to transfer files from my iMac to PC´s running Windows XP and viceversa.
Now I have added a note book running Vista Home Premium and since then I have problems to transfer files from my iMac to that notebook. The rest of the network continues working fine.
Sometimes it looks like a problem of the size of the file to be transfered, sometimes the message indicate that Vista could not read part of the file.
From the Vista notebook to the iMac there is not problem at all.
    Any advice??
iMac PPC   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Hello Nescom. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I'm afraid I really don't have an answer for you but I can offer my experiences with large files transfer with Vista. My current home network is a combination of Windows PC, Windows Servers, and Macs. Large file transfers between most of them have relatively the same performance, except when transferring large files from the Vista PC to any other OS. It is demonstrably slower. Interestingly, transfers between Vista machines does not appear to be a problem. I understand that this is a known problem by Microsoft and was supposed to be fixed with Vista SP1.
So the problem might not be your network, but Vista itself. I'm curious if you have this problem when transferring large files to another Vista device?

  • Windows Vista Network Issues when updating Podcasts

    Hi there,
Since upgrading to VISTA i am experiencing countless problems with my internet connection when using iTunes. Using iTunes normally does not cause a problem however as soon as iTunes store downloads updated podcasts, my network connection disconnects. The podcasts only download partially and then fail as a result of my network issues. I am unable to repair my wireless network connection at this point and it appears that my wireless card disables completely. I have to reboot to resolve the issue.
Has anyone else experienced this? I am using the latest version of iTunes.
    Are there any fixes?
    Many thanks,

Can you connect with everything temporarily turned off?

  • Windows Vista network Icon, next to the little speaker Icon vanished on me.

No is hasn't been figured out by anyone yet. I've done everything that the experts had to offer. Nothing has worked yet. I've put the operating system in twice. It was there than vanished again. Not worth it a third time. I just can't figure this one out.
This last time it vanished when I rebuilt the index. I can't open the properties in the local area connection. Untill I discovered the hidden Adminitrator Account. I can open the properties with that account, Not with the other. But no network icon anywhere...!!!
That little icon has been driving me nuts. One of you out there will find it. It can't hide forever...!!!

It's not really a DW thing, just put your favicon in the root
directory of your website and insert a line like <link
    rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
in the <head> section of your webpage.
The pic itself is a 16x16 pixel image saved as favicon.ico. I
think it's only supposed to be 16 color too...
