MacBook+Projector = MacBookPro+Projector  ?

Is the MacBook up to the task of PowerPoint or Keynote with a projector, or would a MacBook Pro be better?
I know the MacBook is a solid computer but I just wondered because of the shared video.
If MacBook is sufficient and since video is shared what would be the minimum RAM you would use it with?
Thanks all for the answers in advance.
Nick

your main concern seems to be that the GPU in the mac book isnt up to the task of displaying your screen contents onto a projector. Keep in mind that any computer that can use a monitor can use a projector. Displaying onto the screen on your laptop is just as hard as displaying the image thru a projector. The other part of your concern is if the macbook can handle a program like powerpoint or keynote. Powerpoint and keynote are not graphic intensive programs, and therefor do not need a powerful GPU. A macbook will do just fine for presenting with a projector. The MBP might look a little bit more crisp, b/c it can display a higher resolution, but with most projectors you wont be able to tell the difference.

  • Macbook vs Macbookpro

Hi I'm a student about to enter university and I'm wondering whether macbook or macbookpro would be right for me. I will use my notebook for school work, internet usage, music, and moderate photo editing. If you have any suggestions your response would be much appreciated, thanks.

Well. Just my opinion, you should do fine with a MacBook. This notebook should be more than enough for your needs. I'm basing this also on the fact that your a student, and if anything like me when I was a student, broke! So, the Macbook being hundreds of dollars cheaper than it's "Pro" counterpart is also a steer in that direction.
However, if by "moderate" photo editing you mean later on down the line you're gonna be doing some heavy photo editing, my suggestion would be the "Pro" model since it does have the dedicated graphics chip as opposed to the MB which has an integrated processor and graphics set. The MAJOR photo editing softwares I've been reading about, some people have reported okay usage on the MB, others state it would better on the MBP. I don't know. I don't do photo editing or anything like that. My computer is used for internet, work, and other personal uses. So I couldn't justify the purchase of a MBP.
But let me say this, if your budget allows for it, go for the MBP. Solely my opinion. Now, let me step aside and let some real knowledable persons give you a better comparison-contrast on this subject.
    Hope this helps. Good luck.

  • Macbook projector problems

I'm having some issues with my Macbook being run through a Dell 3200MP DLP projector. Until today, the MB seemed to recognize the Dell projector, but the projector's display would repeatedly show "searching for signal". As of today, the MB doesn't even seem to recognize the Dell projector. I'm using a Mini DVI to VGA Adapter all the while.
Prior to obtaining the MB, I used an iBook with an older adapter and that has always and still remains useful. For whatever reason, I cannot get this MB to work with my projector. I've contacted Apple to told me to contact Dell nd then contacted Dell who suggested it was an Apple issue. Is there anyone whose having similar issues or was able to resolve the problem?

    Mmmm ...
Are you able to connect your MB to another projector/external diplay? (Any old monitor should do!) If this work it would at least rule out a fault with the cables/connections.
I think of this because I am now having issues with my DVI/VGA adaptor for the second time. I think that this is the achilles heel when it comes to projecting images from you Mac. The older 'legacy' ports make for more robust connections!
My experience has been that my PowerBook can be a bit fussy if I sleep the unit first before making the connection. Similarly a new Sanyo projector will not display unless i toggle it to the 'video' input and then back to 'computer'.
Hope you get it nailed soon!

  • MacBook / projector problem?

My MacBook recognizes our projector as soon as it's attached. Its name is in the monitor control panel, I can "see" it there. BUT my Philips projector does not receive any data from the Mac. It searches and searches and searches. This projector works with any notebook, Mac or Win, except mine. And my MacBook works with any external VGA display - except this projector.
An Apple technician who tried all possible variations was at a loss, too.
Any good idea would be more than appreciated!

Have you tried unplugging and replugging the projector's VGA cable? How about the adapter? If so, try pressing the projector's video display mode button and cycle it back to either "Computer (Analog)" or variants thereof. Just make sure if it's a new projector, it doesn't go to digital since your connection right now is an analog signal.

  • Loading issues after upgrading from MacBook to MacBookPro

I recently updated from a MacBook to a 13 inch MacBookPro 2.53 GHz intel duo processor, 4GB RAM, and about 170GB of free space on my internal hard drive. I am running OS 10.5.7
When I got my MacBookPro I transfered all the data from my MacBook to the new computer.
About one everyone 5-10 minutes, when running Adobe Flash (10,0,22,87) on Safari 4.0.2 or Firefox 3.0.8, and about everyone 20-30 minutes when running programs in Microsoft Office 2008, my computer has excessively long loading times. These loads do not correlate with any CPU intensive activity, they happen during routine internet surfing or word processing.
I did not have this issue with loads times when I was using my old MacBook was had a smaller processor, RAM, and HD. I transfered my HD over when I got my new computer, which makes this more puzzling.
I have restarted my computer multiple times. I have ran a virus scan. I have lurked the forums, but I cannot seem to figure out what is causing the problem. Also, while I have no idea what this does, I repaired the permissions on my hard drive.
    Any ideas?

I transfered my HD over when I got my new computer, which makes this more puzzling.
Do you mean that you moved the MacBook's hard drive into the MBP? If you did that, and you didn't reinstall the OS on it from the MBP's discs, then you have an unsuitable OS installation on the MBP now, and that may be at the root of your problem. Even if it isn't, it will eventually lead to other problems.

  • Macbook or MacBookPro?

    Hey guys,
I have a MacBook and im just not
sure if I should sell it and buy a MBP.
The reason is because I am planning to
start video editing with FCE 4
also buying a video camera?I just
think my MB could not handle the editing?
    Thanks,
    Josh

I've been on the fence for a long time debating which mac to get next - I'm still using an old imac and powerbook both with G4's(I have a lot of patience).  I'm the video archivist for the family which has a lot of film hours.  I've spent a lot of time at the Apple store running various programs on a macbook, macbook pro and imac.  One of my favorite test is to open up idvd and just drop some imove takes into an idvd project - then open up the project info and take a look at how quick the encoding is taking (blue bar)- surprisingly there's not much difference between any three of those macs but if you go over to a mac pro and do the same test - it blows those three away, barefeats has similar test but I like to judge myself - so if your going to be doing a lot of video editing my take is the encoding, rendering and burning of DVD's easily justifies a mac pro.  But I still like something portable and small with good power to do some editing on the fly, so it looks like a macbook first with a good external monitor and then a mac pro perhaps a refurb one from Apple.

  • Battery Update 1.2 For MacBook and MacBookPro

    Just posted today:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305256
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/batteryupdate12.html
Make sure your computer's power cord must be connected and plugged into a working power source. And wait 30 seconds before you validate the installation.

Weird-o. I followed the Knowledge Base article's directions to check the version number after installation. All of the "bundles" inside the SystemConfiguration folder are ... folders. So when I do a "get info", of course there's no version number because, well, it's a folder.
So... since NONE of the bundles in that folder are being read as the correct file type, what does that mean?

  • Dir 10 projector - sudden errors on MacBook Pro

Yesterday a coupe of users had script errors after installing
an interactive on both a MacBook and MacBookPro, when starting an
application that I've been distributing for several years now. It
is a 10.1.1 projector (all the latest updates), using a quick start
stub movie. All Xtras are distributed inside my installer and
placed in an appropriate Xtras folder. I've probably had over a
1000 Mac users install various versions successfully over the last
few years, and then every student runs the application for an hour
a week over the academic year. It's been running successfully on
all flavors of Mac machines - G4, G5 and Intel boxes.
After the reports of problems came in, today I began
retesting this year's installer (which had all worked great on 7 or
8 test Macs) to try to track down the sudden problem. Had no errors
on a G4 iBook, a G5 iMac, or my Quad-core Mac Pro. But sure enough,
I also got a script error on my MacBook Pro that I had not seen
before! And to complicate matters even more, a second program (that
uses an identical configuration) that was installed successfully on
my MBP in July now also gives the same script error at startup.
Note that this laptop is not my main machine, and sees light use
    these days.
After extensive testing (at first thinking this might be an
issue with my new installer), I noticed that a tiny dialogue box
appeared on the screen for a split second, then disappeared. A
portion of my projector (1024 x 768) then appeared within the same
dimensions as that dialogue, then the script error came up. I used
a screen capture program to record the sequence at 30 fps, and
after a couple of tries was able to get the following screen shot:
    http://www.aufgehts.com/images/AG_SW_error.jpg
I am completely puzzled because there is no need to download
Xtras - after 8 hours of investigation I still have no idea what's
going on. Both my MBP and MP have 10.5.4 with all the latest
updates, and another team member with a MBP and 10.5.4 is able to
run the program successfully. I've tried resetting Permissions for
the application's folder, but with no success.
The Projector has no need to download any Xtras (this option
is NOT turned on in my projector / Xtra settings window). I thought
it might be a problem with a Shockwave 11 player so I uninstalled
just in case. Further, we tested the MBP that has no errors by
uninstalled Shockwave 10 and installing SW 11, and this other MBP
had no problem. The projector is a normal one that doesn't need to
download a SW player (plus it is set to run with SW 10), so it
should just start up with Rosetta, look for the Xtras folder, and
    run as normal.
Anyone had similar issues or have a guess as to what might be
going on? All ideas will be appreciated!

I'm using the latest version of Firestorm (from Vise),
created on my MacPro with 10.5. At first I assumed it was my
installer, but the problem persists even if I manually install my
uncompressed gold master files via my internal network. Further,
all my old, previously installed and working versions of various
Director 10 project run-time applications are now "broken" on this
    one MBP.
Like you, my best guess is that it is a permissions issue. My
theory is that all Xtra folders have now somehow become locked and
the projector can not access them (this would explain the errors on
the exisitng programs). Tried numerous solutions to this therory:
resetting permissions in the app folder so all users have
Read/Write access to all enclosed folders, repairing permissions in
Disk Utilties, etc. The fact that this only appears to occur on the
MacBook Pro and MacBook (so far) makes me wonder if there is some
conflict with the Intel laptops. Or it could just be coincidence
due to the majority of my users' (students) having laptops ...
Any ideas will be entertained ... Is it possible to get more
effective permissions repairs via terminal (which I am not too
    familiar with)?

  • DC/DC adaptor for MacBookPro or Macbook

I am thinking of replacing one of my powerbooks with a Macbook or MacBookPro for use on my sailboat. So I need a DC/DC converter and one does not seem to be available for the Macbook series. I do know that I can possibly use a DC to AC converter but aside from not wanting another instrument in a confined space I am also learly of the AC out, which may be a square wave or modified square wave and might damage the equipment. Any suggestions?

    souvikfromKolkata,
yes, it can be upgraded to Mavericks. Whether you can upgrade other software packages will probably depend more upon which version of OS X you have installed than the particular hardware model.

  • Macbook Keyboard freezing

    Hi All
I get my macbook in just under 3 days it is a white 2.00Ghz Core 2 Duo, 1GB RAM, 120GB Hard drive model, it will also be running Mac OS X Leopard
I was wondering if the keyboard freezing problem occurs on all Macbook's & Macbookpro's models or is it a certain some, of are all of them doomed.
if we are then will I be able to install my copy of Mac OS X Tiger on the macbook, I'm asking this because I don't think tiger comes with the new X3100 graphics drivers for the Santa Rosa chips in the macbook.
Can someone explain also why it only seems to be happening only in Leopard and when will we see a fix for it from Apple
    Thanks R Nicholson

Lauraford, you seem to be having a similar problem to many other people here. Check out this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5786564

What is the viewing angle of the new Macbooks?
Many LCD monitors manufacturers will give how many 'degrees' of viewing angle can their monitors produce. However Apple just don't give that info.

  • MacBook in very hot weather

I'm planning to buy a new MacBook or MacBook Pro and I will bring it with me to Vietnam (I'm moving there for work). The max recommended operating temperature is 95F (35C). I was in Ho Chi Minh in May and the temperature every day reached 105F (42C) without even the humidex factor. Will my MacBook survive ?
Do I have a better chance with a MacBook or MacBookPro ?
If the weather kills it what about my Applecare warranty ?

The way your new machine is working is correct. I'm not aware of any MacBook ever maintaining a 100% charge. In order to keep a 100% charge, your system would need to continuously charge the battery. This isn't great for the battery and puts quite a bit of extra strain on the charging components. It is normal for your system to charge up to 100%... and then drop down to 94-95% before charging again.

  • Macbook and car adapter?

    hello everybody,
i am the proud owner of a new macbook. since i am a photographer, i need a way to run/charge it from my cars battery via the cigarette-lighter plug. yes my car is that old;-) any suggestions. i am in germany btw.
    thanks a lot, eddie wagner

    Hi Wagner,
Up until now, there is no car adapter mag safe for macbook and macbookpro from apple or third party supplier.
What I do to fill the gap is buy a small car inverter and plug it to the lighter outlet and I plugged my magsafe to the other end.
Get one that at least have enough wattage for your magsafe (60 watt).
Also Mort (First Magus) often give this link to consider:
