My MacBook recognizes our projector as soon as it's attached. Its name is in the monitor control panel, I can "see" it there. BUT my Philips projector does not receive any data from the Mac. It searches and searches and searches. This projector works with any notebook, Mac or Win, except mine. And my MacBook works with any external VGA display - except this projector.
An Apple technician who tried all possible variations was at a loss, too.
Any good idea would be more than appreciated!

Have you tried unplugging and replugging the projector's VGA cable? How about the adapter? If so, try pressing the projector's video display mode button and cycle it back to either "Computer (Analog)" or variants thereof. Just make sure if it's a new projector, it doesn't go to digital since your connection right now is an analog signal.

I am trying to project Pro Presenter on the Epson projector such that I have the detail screen on the macbook and only the screen I want people to see on the projector display. This has not been possible because the arrangement tab on the Display section of the System Preference is not showing. If i tried to search for the arangement, it comes back with the message that there is not other source detected, hence the arrangement tab is not showing.
I have also tried to connect the Epson directly to the Macbook but it still the same result, so its not because it is a wireless connection. Can someone advise me jhow to go around this problem. I have used windows before and it is very easy to extend ptojection on windows, but this system seems to be frustrating to me.

    Hi Toksyb!
You may want to try clearing out the PRAM on your computer. This process is explained through this article:

Firstly, the HP printer must be connected to the ASUS' network. Then, simply connect your MBP to the network and your printer should be addable in Print & Fax in System Preferences.

I cannot find the eMac install disk, and I haven't been able to get it to start up from my 10.3 CDRm (holding down option or c), though I read something somewhere about these not being able to start up from system folders earlier than those they shipped with. I've dealt with this sort of thing several times before, and it always seemed to work to simply use target disk mode.
It definitely won't start up fromt the 10.5 DVD-R, and I'm pretty sure I tried putting the MBP into TM to use its optical drive as well, but it didn't work. But it's worth trying again, and I appreciate your input greatly.

  • I want to connect my ps3 to my macbook pro wirelessly.

I want to connect my ps3 to my macbook pro wirelessly, my macbook pro is connected to the internet via ethernet.

OS X offers a feature known as Internet Sharing. With this feature enabled, the Mac Pro would perform as a "software" router. If the Mac Pro has built-in wireless (AirPort), you could then use this feature to share the Mac Pro's wired Internet connection via AirPort to the PS3.

  • Have MacPro wired to Verizon DSL; how do I add MacBook Pro wireless?

I have a MacPro connected with an Ethernet cable to a Westell WireSpeed modem that is plugged into the wall phone jack served by Verizon DSL. The MacPro does not have an Airport card. My wife wants to connect her MacBook Pro with built-in Airport Extreme 802.11n wirelessly to the internet.
I've never used a router before. Would an Airport Extreme Base Station let me operate the MacPro wired and the MacBook Pro wireless simultaneously? If not, how can I do it?

Yes, the AirPort Extreme or any other vendor's wireless router with a built-in Ethernet switch will provide for both wired and wireless clients simultaneously.

On reflection I should have used a wired connection or migrated at a later time but is it possible to interrupt the process now and rerun with a wired solution without damaging either laptop?

I have two iTunes libraries - about 172GB that I keep on my MacBook Pro and 500GB+ that I keep on an external drive. If you wanted to do something similar - keeping that precious internal space to a minimum - you can just create two libraries and hold down the option key when opening iTunes: this allows you to select which library you want to open.

  • Fed up of Macbook Pro wireless problems

I'm having lots of trouble with my Macbook Pro wireless and really don't know what to do with it.
My own router (3COM officeconnect) I cannot connect to at all no matter what I try - but I've given up hope on that anyways.
My current problem is that at a friends house with a Linksys 11g wifi router (forgot which one) I can connect to the wifi network (WEP128) but I cant browse the net! I can ping IP numbers directly, but I cannot ping names (such as www.google.com). I keep getting 'cannot resolve host'. strangely enough, after I reboot a number of times sometimes I CAN browse the net...
I'm currently at a hospital which is fully decked out with CISCO wifi access points (unsecured) everywhere, which my 5 year old HP can access no problems within seconds of booting up, my mobile phone can access without any configuration... but my state of the art macbook pro cannot. I have the same problem as the Linksys, I can connect to their network, I can ping IP addresses, but cant browse the web or ping names (and ive been rebooting and trying for about 8 hours now).
I took the MBP to an apple certified service place a whileback and they concluded the hardware was fine, cos I can connect to apple wifi points (which is all they care about). Ive never had any problems with wifi on windows, linux, PSP, symbian or Windows Mobile... but the MBP seems to be in a league of its own.
I'm hoping this is a configuration issue, but I dont know what I would need to configure, both the hp and mobile phone can connect without any configuration, so I would have expected the mbp to connect easily too. I havnt changed any settings on it.
It sounds like a DNS issue so I checked the DNS servers assigned to the mbp, and its the same as the whats on the hp(all assigned with DHCP). Just in case I tried putting in the DNS servers manually but still I get the same thing.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions it would be much appreciated!
(On another note, I just logged in and I was asked to create a new account for these forums! dunno what happened but now Ive started from scratch! i had loads of posts, subscribtions etc.! all gone!)

"My current problem is that at a friends house with a Linksys 11g wifi router (forgot which one) I can connect to the wifi network (WEP128) but I cant browse the net!"
This is the exact same problem I'm having. The ONLY time I was able to connect to the internet w/ my MBP was at a cafe w/ a linksys connection, the first day I had the MBP. But now I can't even connect there. Although internet connect SAYS I'm connected to linksys and shows a strong signal, and my network diagnostics show that I'm connected, I can't browse the internet. I bought this partly to do video editing in Final Cut Pro (why I needed an MBP rather than the less expensive macbook) and partly so that I could work between classes, which is absolutely necessary for me. But I haven't been able to connect on my college campus despite the fact that no one else is having problems w/ their PCs or their macbooks. Everywhere I go with this thing, I'm the only one having problems (and I should mention that I happen to be the only person using an MBP in each place I've tested it...). I'm not sure what to do. I can't configure any routers or anything because I'm connecting in public places (at home I use a highspeed DSL connection w/ a PC), and there are no problems w/ the routers anyways, since everyone w/ older laptops is connecting just fine.
So far this is what I've done to try to fix it:
-Went over everything with Apple tech support, who said that all of my configurations were correct and that it was a problem with the 10.4.10 update. So I...
-Reinstalled my operating system to go back to 10.4.9. Still the same problem. So I...
    -Zapped the PRAM. Nothing.
-Did the Macbook Pro Update that came out yesterday. Nothing.
-Installed the latest security update. Nothing.
I should mention I've only had this laptop for about a week, haven't changed any settings (I'm new to Macs so I would be uncomfortable doing so, anyways), and haven't installed anything except for a trial version of the Mac FTP program Fetch (which was working fine the one time I was able to get connected). I guess I'm going to uninstall that and forfeit the rest of my trial period, but I really doubt that program is the problem.
Anyways, I'm really frustrated as well. I guess I'm going to try to download the program mentioned in this thread to clear my cache. I'll let you know if it works, by some miracle...

Connecting my Sony BD player to my MacBook Pro wireless network.  It sees the network but it then asks for a WPA security key.  Where do I find this key?

    Hi Michael,
It sounds like your router's authentication is set to WPA and thus where the key is established. Does your MacBook Pro connect to a wireless router? If so, that's where you'd need to get the key from via a web-based control panel for the router or if it's an AEBS via AirPort Utility.

  • Macbook Pro to Sanyo projector wireless ?

    Greetings from Alaska.
Say I need some advice. We have a Sanyo projector mounted on the ceiling at our church. Currently I have a VGA and a S-video cables running down to meet our laptops. I notice that the S-video is much clearer on the screen (which I prefer to use).
The problem is that we have cables across the floor and people could trip on them. Is there a wireless solution out there. I did some searches and found a couple of items but their footnotes say not good resolution for computer screens.
Can somebody direct me to a system that is wireless and have maybe a DVI or S-video option?
    Thanks,
    Keith

iFelix thank you for taking time,
Most of the time it is static, but once in awhile I like to drop a quicktime into the keynote. Thanks for the link, that looks like what I'm looking for. One question though. When I hook up to the projector with VGA the picture is no way near the quality than when I hook up with the S-video.
Will I be sacrificing image quality with VGA?

  • Practicalities of DLP projector, wireless keyboard with an MBP

    Hi,
Thinking of getting a DLP projector for home use for both the MBP and occasional home cinema.
Have a notion that I could use a wireless keyboard and mouse, sit in an arm chair and do whatever while the MBP sitting near the projector feeds to the projector.
    Any ideas on this?
-is it comfortable to work with something like this?
-is there much of a trade of with resolution of the projectors screen (its a 720p projector)?
-range of the bluetooth apple wireless keyboard?
-can u close the lid on the MBP and just work away.
-can u use a dual screen option i.e. have one screen on the computer on and work with the other screen on the projecto showing different data - and slide the mouse between them?
-what cabling will i need - the projector as a HDMI input and I think you can get a connector from the DVI
    Thanks for any advice,
    Tom

    Tom,
All of the things you want to do are possible, but there are some disadvantages that you'll find...
The Macbook Pro will work in "clamshell" mode just fine, and yes, you can just "work away." With both displays being used (the MBP open, of course), you have the option of mirroring (which will force the MBP's display to the highest resolution supported by the external display), or of using "Extended Desktop" mode, which extends your Desktop across both displays. In this mode, the displays can be arranged in any order (top and bottom, side by side, with either one used as the "main" display where the menu bar and Dock reside).
The resolution of the external, however, will be a drawback. First, even the highest resolution HDTV displays are nowhere near as good as that in your Macbook Pro. While images and/or video might be displayed beautifully, text will not be. You may find this limiting when you must actually read or write things. Also, it is common for a tiny part of the Desktop to be lost when displayed on an HDTV. This tiny bit might not seem like much, but it can make a difference when you need to see things in the menu bar. Settings for the TV and/or the Macbook Pro can be adjusted to compensate for this, but the results are not always great.
All this said, it is relatively easy to make the needed connections. Yes, you need a DVI to HDMI cable. These can be purchased at Walmart, Best Buy, etc. inexpensively.

  • New Airport Extreme restarts/disconnects/boots all devices if specific MacBook joins wirelessly...?

    Preface:
This is my second new AEBS in two weeks. They've both had this issue (which seems unique from the other disconnect postings I've found), so it's not AEBS hardware. I've also had a perfectly functioning Airport Express in the exact same configuration (sans dual-band of course) for the last two years, so interference and the like (for which I did test and troubleshoot) also seems unlikely. I have a 2008 Macbook, a mid 2009 Macbook Pro, a Windows 7 PC, an iPhone 4, and iPhone 4s, and an iPad on the network.
    Issue:
After setting up my AEBS, I kept getting knocked off at random, frequent intervals. It would disappear from all my devices simultaneously--no network connections and nothing showing in Airport Utility. I tweaked every setting imaginable five times over. No luck. Looked into networks around me and fiddled with channels etc. No luck. At first, I would have to go unplug and replug the AEBS to get it to show back up. Eventually I managed to get it to where it would just "reset" more or less and come back on in about 30-45 seconds. The light on the router will blink green once, and then two seconds later go solid amber for about 10-15 seconds, and then blink amber for another 10 or so. Then it's back like nothing happened.
I think that I finally narrowed it down today to what is triggering it more or less. I noticed it was fine with everything connected WITHOUT any security. When I added the WPA2 security back on, it was doing it soon after the older Macbook connected, right after "Installed unicast CCMP key for supplicant 3c:d0:f8:8e:31:b5". I could connect the Macbook through ethernet and be fine. If it did connect without the issue, it would do it soon after when the router would run that "Installed unicast CCMP" process again in a mere matter of minutes.
I decided that maybe having old OSX Leopard wasn't working well, so I finally upgraded it to Snow Leopard to see if maybe it would help. No luck. Exact same issue. I disabled Airport on it, and since then I'm going on 5 hours of no issues, but why is this computer causing the AEBS to freak out when it worked 100% with my Airport Express for years???

    Hi,
I have roughly the same issue.  I have a new 5th Generation (I had a 4th Generation that seemed to do the same thing) that will reboot for no apparant reason.  I have a 1st Generation Time Capsule as the main wireless access point, then a 2nd generation Extreme extending, and the 5th generation as another extension.  I also have an Express extending to the top floor.  All my other devices work great, but the new 5th generation will just reboot over and over.  Seems to be every 5 - 10 minutes.  I have it setup in the middle of my house, with some devices connected to it via ethernet cable.  I used to have the Express in that location connected to a switch for my devices, and never had any issues.  My log looks similar, basically nothing useful.

FWIW, you are not running iOS (any version) on a Mac computer, it would be Mac OS 10.x.x (which is helpful for anyone trying to help you).
