Macbook receipt

thanks in advance. I used to have a Macbook that I upgraded to 4gb Ram for music purposes - I run pro tools on it. My macbook was stolen in a break in on Friday!
Contacted insurance and they are quite rightly asking for a receipt but as it's about 3 years old I have no idea where it is!! Is there anyway apple will have kept an e copy of my receipt? I bought my notebook through the Apple Store in Glasgow.
Secondly it was the wee white 11 inch macbook modded to 4gb - I know I can't get one now - I think the closest new spec is the 4gb Macbook Air (£999) - or the entry level macbook pro (999) - which is better? Assuming the insurance agree?

The MacBook you had would be a 13". They never made MacBooks in 11"
If you get a MacBook Air 11" it will work for you if you never want to do more than you do now. There's no way to upgrade the Flash Memory HHD or the RAM. You're stuck with whatever you order.
The MacBook Pro 13" will allow you to increase the RAM up to 16gb and put in larger and faster hard drives (Even SSDs) if you later get into things that need more memory.

Well...I went to the modem (Westell, WireSpeed), found the NAT settings, once again, I'm WAY over my head, I am assuming this is a TCP connection (as opposed to a UDP) and per Lorex my mobile devices will use port 1025. So I gave it a "global port range" of 1-10 and I indicated that the "base host port" was 80, 1025, & 9000 (ports 1,2,3). When I selected the 'enable' it asked for a "host devise" my choices are my IPhone, IMac and the IP address for the dvr, so I choose the dvr. I still cannot connect and canyouseeme still can NOT find these open ports. This is taking up my whole day! I don't know how people figure this stuff out.

Received new macbook pro on friday. want to return, but threw out receipt

i received my new macbook pro in the mail on friday. i still have the box and all the accessories, but i threw out the packing slip/receipt. i tried to retrieve it from the garbage can outside my house, but found a hundred maggots in it and was traumatized. but i do still have the order confirmation that apple sent to my email. will i be able to return/exchange it?
i have the cheapest macbook (13 in, no retina) and it overheats A LOT, so i want to buy the 8 GB ram one for an extra hundred dollars.
assuming i will be able to return/exchange it, how much extra will i have to pay? will i have to pay an additional $80 for tax, or will i just be able to pay the $100 and get the new macbook?
and what will happen to my back to school gift card? (i still havent received it yet, though)

The email should be enough for them to accept the return. They may even do it by serial number.
The other questions would be good ones to ask at the Apple Store.

How do I get a receipt for faxes sent from Macbook?

I have a macbook pro with a usb modem attachment. I've successfully faxed a document using the external modem. For legal reasons, there are things I must send via fax, and I must have a printable receipt verifying the fax was sent. For example, I use Winfax Pro with my XP machine. As soon as a fax is successfully sent, it prints a pdf fax receipt. I can't see how that can be done with the Apple external modem. Does anyone know how to make the Apple external modem print a fax receipt?

The list of completed FAXes can be found by opening the Fax Queue in System Preferences. Make sure to select "Show Completed Jobs" in the menu.
I had a heck of a time finding where this info was stored. I finally found it in /var/log/cups/page_log
This file contains info for all print jobs, listed by date/time and printer name. (I'm in Snow Leopard).
This information (for FAXes) shows the status, name of document, Fax Number, date, and time sent. It doesn't show the number of pages so that's the only thing missing from Bottlerocket's request.

My macbook was recently stolen but I purchased it with a credit card. If I showed the credit card to Apple would they be able to find out what my serial number was and flag it? I cannot find my receipt anywhere.

A man broke into my apartment last night and my macbook is missing. I don't have the receipt or the serial number but I purchased it with my visa card. Would someone at the genius bar be able to take my credit card and find out the mac that I purchased and flag it in case the person tries to bring it in?

Report it to the police.
Start filling an insurance claim if you think it is worht it (your rates may rise if you make a claim but a new computer might still be worth it).

Install library receipts from a MacBook Pro onto a Mac Mini PPC

I have a pay per Mbyte internet connection at home, but unlimited internet where I work. I am hoping to install updates on the MacBook Pro at work and keep the receipt .pkg files and install them on the Mac Mini PPC at home so I don't have to pay for the large file size. Any idea if this will work?

you don't need the receipts; you need the updates themselves. just download them at work, store them on external media, and install at home. assuming you aren't violating any "acceptable use" policy at work, you'll be fine.

I know that you can buy lion for 29.99, but i should be getting it for free since i purchased a new macbook after lion was released. At the apple store they told me that i should be able to download for free with a link they provided me. however, i'm supposed to enter some kind of receipt code, and there's no place to enter it.

Yes and no. Yes, you can claim the warranty (provided the computer has not been reported as stolen.) No, the warranty (Extended AppleCare) is not recognized everywhere. There are some countries in which the warranty is not valid.
You can register your ownership at Apple's web site.

The only other way would be through Apple, assuming you bought it at an Apple store or at least registered it. Stop by the store or call their support number.
