Macbook refusing to allow log on

My macbook pro refused to allow me to log on for several hours yesterday. It was suggested by someone in the IT department at work that it sounded as if someone else was in control of my computer. Is this possible?

Then you have nothing to worry about unless someone else knows your passwords.

I have set up a server and the website, but it only works if you forward the urls, in the DNS machine records, to the public ip address of my of my router. I only want to allow logged in users to be able to click on a wiki homepage link to see it. Also, typing in the internal ip address of a device on my network doesn't get me to my server unless I allow the Internet to see the wiki.
So I would like to...
1. Make users log in to be able to see anything, like people, profiles, and wikis.
2. Allow intranet access to server with host names and server ip address
3. Allow logged in VPN users to see the site (I'm guessing this would go along with number 2)
4. If I need to add a custom site, how would I add the site so it would pop up when the URL is typed in and have a login window to be able to go the wiki site
5. I don't want to mess up Profile Manager either
I've tried many different things and can get one thing to work, but not the other.

There are way to many lines of code in these files that are different to go through one by one. I have put the files in google docs (server 2.2.1 mods).
There is a great program at the mac app store called CompareMerge you can go through the files line by line to see what is different.
Before doing anything I recommend coping all files that you are changing/deleting some where safe so if something goes wrong you can go back to the originals.
Once all files have been replaced/deleted you have to open the server app and stop/start wikis

Yes, but your iTunes library won't automatically show up on a different computer; putting it there is a separate process.

I agree with teh OWC sggestion above, but why must it be USB powered? I find that far more unreliable, and the low power devices slow.
I'd frankly get a good external enclosure and buy a bare drive. But the OWC stuff is quite good - vastly better than some of the majors (WD being aprime example of stuff that's boderline quality and often not compatible)

Without knowing what you have tried please open System Preferences - Sharing - File Sharing and select File Sharing. If you still have trouble you can call AppleCare in the morning when they re-open. You have 90 days of telephone support if you haven't already bought AppleCare.

Allow log on through Remote Desktop Services Group Policy for Domain Controllers

Hello,
We want to allow our Helpdesk Operators to be able to connect to Domain Controllers with the Remote Desktop Services. This is by default not allowed but according to many sites, it should be able to configure by using a Group Policy.
We made a new Group Policy with the setting 'Allow log on through Remote Desktop Services' and 'Allow log on locally' (as an extra for testing) and applied Security Filtering to only use it for a specific Security Group. Our test user is a member of this
security group and should be able to access the Domain Controllers now. However this isn't working.
The error message we receive upon trying to connect:
The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login.
For troubleshooting, we also applied the Security Group for that setting in the Default Domain Controllers Policy but that doesn't seem to work either. We want to avoid customization on our Default Domain Controllers Policy but this was just a test case
for solving our problem.
What should we do to solve our problem?

In my case, I had the group added to the Allow Logon Through Remote Desktop Services but was not added to the Builtin\Remote Desktop Users group. After knowing this I made some changes to our situation and are now using the builtin\Remote Desktop Users group
rather than a new self made Security Group. I also added the Remote Desktop Users to the Allow Logon Through Remote Desktop Service in the Default Domain Controllers Policy as this is not done by default. By default only the Domain Administrators are able
to logon through remote desktop services.
You do not need the 'Log on Locally' permission within the Group Policies.
In short:
Add the desired users/groups to the 'Builtin\Remote Desktop Users' security group.
Add the 'Builtin\Remote Desktop Users' security group to the 'Allow Logon Through Remote Desktop Services' within the 'Default Domain Controllers Policy'.

Yes, The default action account must have the following minimum privileges:
• Member of the local Users group
• Member of the local Performance Monitor Users group
• Allow log-on-locally permission (SetInteractiveLogonRight)
because SCOM provide you with monitoring for agents which need to access event viewer of this server to show you any issue that happened.
Monitoring and collecting Windows event log data.
Monitoring and collecting Windows performance counter data.
Monitoring and collecting Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) data.
Running actions such as scripts or batches.

Applejack breaking Mail - refused to allow a connection on port 25

Hi folks
ran applejack in auto mode only to have it kill Mail... can no longer send mail... get the following message...
"This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
The server "mail.*.com.au" refused to allow a connection on port 25."
I got this once before and thought it was only with the UB version of Applejack so downgraded to the previous version but did it again... worked out last time how to fix it but cnanot remember what I did...

Although this occurs after running AppleJack, it may be a coincidence only but the following was copied from AppleJack's website.
AppleJack is a user friendly troubleshooting assistant for Mac OS X.
And IMO, troubleshooting means just that - to be used when you are experiencing a problem.
How often do you run AppleJack? If running AppleJack in auto mode causes a problem when you aren't experiencing any problems, I'd seriously consider not running it in auto mode.

Does "Allow log on locally" work with environment variables?

This is merely out of curiosity and just because I'm doing some conceptual gambling.
I'd like to create a GPO having the Allow log on locally set to something like the following list:
%OWNER%
BUILTIN\Administrators
The concept behind this is to prepare the system during OS installation with a value to the OWNER environment variable to allow only the specified user account (apart from the Administrators group, of course) to log on to the system without A) having to
configure this setting locally on the client and B) having a great range of different GPOs to handle all the user/computer combinations.
My questions are:
Does this work at all?
If it works, what do I need to provide as a value?
I've already tried to set <user name>, <domain name>\<user name> and
<user name>@<FQDN> but none of those seem to work.

How do I over-ride Firefox 4's refusal to allow installation of Torbutton v1.3.2-alpha?

The developer at the Tor Project has been testing Torbutton v1.3.2-alpha (unstable). Although not fully stable, it's being released for users to test. When I tried to install this alpha release from the 2nd link's page (look for "Install alhpa" on the page), Firefox 4 refused to allow completion of the installation. What I need to know, is how do I over-ride that refusal, to achieve installation?

Thanks for the replies. Yes, they were both helpful and informative. However, the bottom line is that in order to work around the compatibility problem, I'd need to do some re-programming of Firefox, with subsequent risk of "malfunctions or crashes". It's simpler and safer, to just abandon use of the version 4 as being fundamentally defective, uninstall it, and return to use of v3.6.3 which worked correctly most of the time. I appreciate your assistance!

Pages documents are organized in sections. When you click on the thumbnail for a page, the section containing that page is selected. The Delete command applies to the selection, so if you press delete at this point, the selected section is deleted.
You can separate a section into two or more sections by inserting a section break at the end of the page before the page you want ot be the first in the new section, then inseritng a second section break where you want the second section to end. Click on the thumbnail for any page in the new section, thenpress delete and the new section will be deleted.
If desired, you can then reconnect the two remaining sections into one by deleting the section break between them.
An alternate is to select any floating objects on the pages you want to delete, then press delete. After that, select the text on the pages you want to delete, then press delete.
If all objects on these pages (and al objects on pages following these pages) have been placed as Inline objects, this deletion may be done in a single step. Floating objects placed below the deleted material will maintain their position relative to the top left corner of the first page of the section,m and will not be in the same place within the text as they were before the deletion.

If your jpegs are inserted as inline objects, each will be treated as a single, large character in the text. You will see the same space left and right of the object as you would create by increasing the height of one character in the line of text to the same size as the height of the jpeg image.
If they are inserted as floating objects, then depending on the Wrap settings, they may force text out of the space to the left, right, or both sdes of the object, as well as forcing a small gap above and below the object. If the scan includes excess white space around the graphic, this white space will be included as part of the object

My MacBook Pro won't log me in at the lag in screen. It won't restart and it's the right password (won't do the vibrating thing that it does when it's the wrong password). Any suggestions?? I really can't do anything on it.... Command-r doesn't work and neither does shift.

You are supposed to press Command-r as soon as you push the power button to turn the computer on.
