MacBook Reinstall - What to do with iPhone?

Hey guys.
Very straight forward question.
My MacBook definitely needs to be reinstalled. It came with Tiger and later upgraded to Leopard. Office 2004 upgraded to 2008 and so on.
So now, things are definitely messed up and a reinstall, clean one from scratch is required.
My question is, my iPhone, now syncing to this MacBook, has all backups/songs/podcasts on this MacBook hard disk.
As soon as I reinstall the MacBook I expect iTunes to complain about the iPhone.
I copied the whole iTunes folder and the MobileSync one (under ~/Library/Application Support) that holds all the iPhone backups.
If I simply copy these folders over after I reinstall OS X, will iTunes complain or simply recognize my phone right away?
What I REALLY want to avoid is iTunes wiping out my phone, especially applications and its settings once I sync again.
What does Apple recommend us doing in such cases?
From what I have been reading so far Apple does not simply provide a way to backup all the iPhone contents somewhere and later restore that, in case I have to reinstall OS X.
Is that really the case?
Thanks!
CR

Sadly just dropping the mobilesync folder back won't be enough although it should recognize the old backups.
The backups should contain the camera roll/contacts/calendars/applications data however you will likely have to sync your data with a new account (i.e. transfer purchases first to put the apps on the computer then lose all apps/music and then sync it back. and the apps will be blank.
You can try to create a backup first by ctrl+click your phone when first plugged in then after you have everything syncing ctrl+click the phone and restore from backup and perhaps that will put all the data back... But it may sync the phone with a previous library so you will lose everything next time you sync.
I would suggest send some feedback that you should be able to change the libraries for Applications without losing application data http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

    Try This...
    Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
    Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

    If no joy...
    Reset all settings
    Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings.
    This will return all iDevice settings to factory defaults... you will not lose any data.... But you will have to re-enter all of the device settings.

  • What functions work with iPhone 3GS on OS4 with Apple wireless keyboard?

    I've successfully paired my Apple Wireless Keyboard with my iPhone 3GS running OS4. I can type messages and emails, but many functions seem to be missing, like moving to the "send" button in email or moving around my iPhone screen. Does anyone know where to find info on what keys on the wireless keyboard perform what functions on the iPhone? Thanks

    Does it matter?
    On topic, there are a few things that work with the keyboard on to iPhone:
    * F1 and F2 - Brightness
    * F3 - Disabled
    * F4 - Disabled
    * F5 and F6 - Disabled
    * F7 - Previous Track
    * F8 - Pause/Play iPod
    * F9 - Skip Track
    * F10 - Mute
    * F11 - Volume Down
    * F12 - Volume Up
    * Eject - Disabled (unless Apple adds a mini-Disc)
    * Caps Lock - YEAY
    * FN Control Option/Alt Command - All Disabled DOH
    * Arrow Keys - YEAY
    Wow, troll. Stop bringing up dead threads...especially when you can't get your information correct.
    The eject key hides and displays the softkeyboard in text entry mode.

  • Macbook pro won't pair with iphone

    Hi folks,
    I have an iphone 4S running 7.0.3 and a Macbook pro with newly installed Mavericks.
    I have failed to get the Maps app on the Macbook to find the iphone to send directions.
    Now when I try to 'pair' the two devices with Bluetooth they can see each other but refuse to stay connected.
    Two problems or possibly one causing the other.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    You are quite correct that Bluetooth isn't the usual method - in truth I'm frustrated that the Maps app on the Macbook won't find the iPhone to send to.. Therefore I have tried to 'link' the two devices by any means and tried Bluetooth almost as a last resort.
    Both devices are connected to the cloud and I have checked that I have up to date OSs on both.
    chattphotos - your screen shot is bang on - but it should have one or more devices listed as well to send the info / map to.  That's where it is falling short and hence my attempts to 'find' the iPhone.
    ChrisJ4203 - I'm sure you are correct as well. Bluetooth probably isn't the correct method, however I'm struggling to find what is.

  • Reinstalled leopard and problems with iphone

    Hi
    Iv plugged my iphone into my computer, the same one its always been synced with, when signed into the same account - only after reinstalling snow leopard from scratch....
    I dont know what to press etc to get everything back to normal and allow me to sync my iphone again without losing stuff. Apps for example, i dont want to lose what apps i have on there, and the order they are in?

    Did you include your iTunes library with your computer's backup before reinstalling Snow Leopard via an Erase & Install - the iTunes named folder located in the Music folder?
    If so and you've placed the iTunes folder from you backup in the Music folder with iTunes quit when doing so, iTunes content should not be erased from your iPhone with the first sync.
    If you didn't include your iTunes library with your computer's backup, why not?

  • HT2513 i cal on macbook pro no longer syncs with iphone

    i used to be able to sync i-cal on my macbook pro laptop with my iphone without a problem.  i changed the setting on my iphone to sync on the cloud.  i later reverted to the original settings after i found out that my laptop won't support cloud settings.  now the calendars won't sync.  i've checked the settings on both.  any suggestions??  thanks.

    Hi CaptDavid,
    The good news... or rather the peace of mind news... is that Applecare doesn't cover software. So your coverage would have no bearing on the issue at hand. But that's besides the point. Let's try a couple of things:
    1.) When you go to Me.com and login, everything works just fine and everything looks ok?
    2.) Do you own an iPhone or iPod Touch? If so, can you sync to MobileMe with them? If not, do you own another computer? Even if it's a PC... can you sync with MobileMe?
    3.) If you make a new user account on the computer and configure that account to sync with your MobileMe information, does that work?
    4.) Have you reset Sync History via iSync? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1497
    Here are two other supporting articles:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1865
    5.) You can use MobileMe's chat support, as a member, for some assistance. If they're unable to resolve your issue they'd probably then refer you into an Apple Retail Store or over the phone support with Applecare. As your coverage has recently expired, you might be subject to a $49 support agreement over the phone but you'd get a free Genius Bar appointment for the issue. Perhaps you can convince the Applecare phone agent that you just worked with Mobile Me support and they were unable to resolve your issue (if they can't and refer you to call Applecare). Heck, it's worth a shot.

  • MacBook Pro won't sync with iPhone but iPhone does

    Since upgrading MacBook Pro to OS X Yosemite and each of iPhone and iPad to iOS 8.1.2, whilst appointments made on iPhone and iPad appear on Calendar in MacBook Pro, those made on MacBook Pro don't appear in Calendars on my iPhone and iPad. Tried iTunes sync with cable, WiFi while connected to power, have read Forums, etc but no luck. Effectively "One way sync" only. Has any one else experienced and rectified this issue??

    Howdy Ralph,

  • Macbook pro go in stop with iphone

    hi.
    today I put my iphone 3gs on the left amplifier of my macbook pro of 2009, and the mac is gone in stop! if i try to do the same procedure, the mac go in stop. mac doesn't go in stop if i put iphone on the right amplifier...
    why? is normal?

    Well, putting a few things together, I would look at this article "MacBook and MacBook Pro: Some computers may unexpectedly go to sleep when stacked" (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2917), which states:
    Automatic sleep operation works based on magnets; a switch in the MacBook Pro, known as a Hall Effect switch, is activated when the magnet in the display clamshell gets close to it. This is how your computer knows to go to sleep when you close the display.
    Then consider that the iPhone will likely exhibit a magnetic pulse from its speaker. And have a look at "Macbook Pro Craziness" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhRW-u6NCwk) as well as "Put your MacBook Pro to Sleep with an iPhone" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zi6ovBuD-I).
    I am not sure if this true, but this poster (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091031120456AAT04BM) seems to think that the iPhone magnetic pulse will actually "fry the hard drive".
    As far as I know, there is no way, natively, to stop the MBP from sleeping when the lid is closed. If you really need to use the left to set the iPhone, there are likely some cases shield the magnetic field. I have also, seem some software advertised that will stop the MBP form sleeping with the lid closed.
    Unless there is some truth to the "fry the hard drive" with an iPhone, Just use it on the right, I think this is easiest.

  • MacBook Air Won't Sync with iPhone

    Hi guys,
    I've been fumbling around with this all weekend and way hoping someone could help. I have TWO macbookairs and TWO iPhones between my wife and myself.
    My wife's iPhone and MBA sync perfectly between calendars and reminders. Check.
    Also, if I add something to MY iPhone it syncs perfectly with her iPhone and MAR. Check.
    If I put something on my iPhone it syncs perfectly with my MBA. Check.
    HOWEVER, if i make changes or additions to my calendar or reminder on my MBA it does NOT sync on my iPhone OR on my wife's MBA / iPhone.
    In other words, changes go IN to my MBA by not OUT.
    It took me a while to isolate the problem (wasted lots of time opening ports). but think it is now somewhat defined.
    Any ideas what the cause of this could be and how to fix it?
    KR,
    Wynn

    Hey, finally found the specific error message and managed a solution. If anyone has this problem in the solution what I did was:
    * Go to System Settings - iCloud. Turn off Calendar and Reminders
    * Restart Computer
    * Go back to System Settings - iCould. Turn on Calendar and Reminders.
    Yeah, that was it. Nothing else. Fun weekend.

  • Calendar on MacBook Pro does not sync with iPhone 4s

    I used Entourage to sync my calendar entries via iTunes for many years and it worked fine. Recently, however, it stopped syncing my information.  I switched over to Mail and Calendar, hoping that staying within the Apple family it would resolve the issue. Still, my calendar information is not syncing with my iPhone. I use IOS 10.9 Maverick on my MacBook Pro.  My iPhone 4S version is 7.0.4. Any idea why this syncing calendar information is not happening?

    I have my iPhone attached via USB cable to my MacBook Pro.
    I have been able to successfully sync my calendar now by activating iCloud on my iPhone and via System Preferences on my MacBook Pro after I learned that Maverick does not provide iSync.
    However, I have a new problem: The calendar does not "upgrade" (it gets stuck) and I receive a "403" error and it gets stuck in a loop that I have to force quit. I have looked that up in the forum, but wasn't able to solve this issue because the solutions are way to technical and out of my league.
    Very disappointed development as removing calendar from iCloud now also deletes all my entries on the Mac.

  • New MacBook Pro not syncing iTunes with iPhone

    I noticed my music is not sync'ing from my iPhone to my MacBook Pro. Everything else does (Mail, Calendar, iPhoto, etc).
    What am I missing here?
    Error says - iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE800006B)

    From /Users/Shared/ try dragging the folder into your user accounts music folder.

  • What's up with iPhone 3G car chargers?

    I have two different car chargers that work fine with my 32 gig iPod Touch and other iPods. However when I hook them up to my new iPhone 3G I get a message that says the charger is incompatible with the iPhone 3G and will not charge it. It appears that the iPhone 3G requires a special car charger. BTW, I have not experienced this with the AC charger or (of course) the USB to Mac charger.
    Have any of you experienced this and if so I would love to hear your input.
    Ken

    Charging via FireWire with older iPods was popular with car charger manufacturers - FireWire accepts 12V - straight from the car. When Apple removed FireWire charging, they kept with USB which is 5V. That requires car chargers to convert 12V to 5V. This costs money.

  • What browser works with iphone?

    Safari will not allow me to sign in to my comcast account, but I do have access to my email.  Safari will not accept my password.  Firefox says Apple restrictions prevent it from being available on iphone.

    What are you trying to do?
    Use the apps provided by Comcast/Xfinity in the App store

  • What's Up with iPhone?

    Any firmware updates lately for the iPhone because I haven't been in my computer in a while. If there is some updates, what is its features; if there isn't then when?

    ...or just read the subjects in the discussion forums. When an update appears there may be a delay between the first one to notice it and the first post about it, but it will be shorter than the gap between the light turning green and the car behind you honking.

  • Mother passed away, how to close account & what to do with iPhone 5 S?

    Hello,
    My dear mother passed away back in July 2013.  Since then, we had no idea who's name her iPhone 5 S account was in.  We assumed in my dad's name.  Anyway, I kept making the payments and until recently discovered the account is in my deceased mother's name.
    As I can no longer afford to pay the $90.00 a month, what should I do to close this account?  Whom do I mail at Verizon Wireless a death certificate?
    Also, do we keep the iPhone 5 S, or we must send it back?
    I noticed the 2 year contract comes up October 2014.
    I tried to find a real email address or Contact Us form, but just couldn't.  So, I'm here.
    Thank you for any assistance and your time.

    This seems pretty easy. Either call CS at *611 or 800-922-0204 or stop in to a Verizon corporate store. Inform them your mother has passed away, that she is the account owner and you would like to close the account. You may have to bring the death certificate. If they try to collect an ETF, simply let them. You are not responsible for it as the account is not in your name. Since you are the one paying the bills, they will obviously not be able to collect the ETF.
    Sorry for your loss.
