Macbook retina HDMI issue

I have a 2013 macbook pro retina 13' , just upgraded to OSX . when i try to connect it through HDMI cable to the TV the macbook's screen flickers and Nothing appears on the TV. what can i do to regarding this?

Yep. I've had the very same problem. Very embarrassing when you're being paid to do a presentation and your brand new, top of the line retina macbook has a temper tantrum.
This happened to me at 3 different venues with three different HDMI external monitor/projector set ups.
To fix this each time, I restarted the mac with the HDMI inserted. I quickly got to the system preferences>displays window... Turned off mirroring; and reset the resolution of the mac monitor back to full res... and the external monitor down to a lower res and refresh rate.
The mac seemed to need a minute to think about it before it came good.
Perhaps something about the HDMI "confuses" the mac as to what monitor is what.
This has never happened to me using VGA.
It could be the whole HDCP encryption "handshake" thing? I'm not sure.
As well as this, I also got occasional random dropouts to "digital snow". One even caused the macbook to crash and freeze... Requiring a full restart.
On another occasion I was using a supplied Mini display port to HDMI adapter... and was getting dropouts with that.
The VGA via mini display port is stable and runs all day long... The HDMI output now officially frightens me.
A lot more venues are starting to use it.

  • Macbook Retina HDMI to VGA

I'm looking for the best solution to connect my Macbook Retina to VGA projectors at work.  I see two adapters on the Apple store both with bad reviews.  Has anyone had good sucess with any adapters that go from HDMI to VGA?
    Thanks

Below are the two adaptors I use that work fine.
I use the VGA at work for the connection to conference room projectors
I use the DVI connection to a $100 flat screen second second monitor I have
I'm happy with both.  The only issue is, since I plug/unplug the thunderbolt cable several times a day, the connection moves and the monitor sometimes looses the signal for a second.  Thunderbolt is just not a tight connection like DVI and VGA and doesn't hold it in place strong enough.  Nice that its small but not a good connector over all...the number one requirement of a connection is that it is tight and secure...thunderbolt fails this.

  • Connecting macbook via HDMI issues

I have a 2010 15" macbook pro. for the longest time i have had it hooked up to my 32 in vizio led tv via minidisplay to hdmi cable when recently it quit working and my tv would say retreiving data... and then no signal. at first i thought maybe i needed a new cable so i tried that and it still didn't work. It seems to connect fine to my living room tv but i just cant get it to work on the smaller 32" tv.
any thoughts to what the issue might be or what could fix it? thanks for any input

actually i just realized after putting a dvd in my xbox it is coming up with an error saying secure HDCP link not found... im wondering now if that means that maybe it is an issue with the tvs hdmi port?
Yes. That's a handshake issue, meaning the two cannot communicate. Your TV is the issue.

  • Macbook retina display issues

Using a mid-2012 Macbook Pro 15 Retina, I recently noticed that some web text and graphics, even on Apple websites, are fuzzy.  Typically, especially an Apple site would appear fuzzy for a second or so, then "retina quality" would always kick-in and now graphics and text on SOME (not all) pages are fuzzy or un-Retina-like and stay that way. Sometimes after several minutes, the "retina quality" will kick-in, but not always.  Desktop and general application fonts, icons and photos outside the web appear retina-like without issue. Thanks for any advice or thoughts.

    Try resetting the PRAM.
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on your Mac.
Immediately press and hold the Option-Command-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears. Continue holding the keys down until your Mac restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display Issues with Wifi with Bluetooth.

I have a Macbook Pro with Retina Display, 2.3 Ghz model.  I've noticed that while on wifi, when I use a bluetooth mouse or even turn on bluetooth on my computer, the wifi performance severely decreases for a short period of time.  While using a bluetooth mouse the wifi intermittently fails and I need to shut off wifi and turn it back on to correct the issue.
Using the ping utility on terminal I have confirmed this in that when bluetooth is turned on, a large number of packets are lost for about ten seconds.
Has anyone else been experiencing this problem and is this an issue I can correct myself or should I contact Apple?
    Thanks

I have the same issue with my macbook pro with retina display. I have 2 macbook pros. I never would of thought that a bluetooth signal was interfering with both of them. I had a gateway wireless router that only had 2.4 Ghz 802.11 b/g, which is the same frequency of bluetooth. I know that bluetooth bounces from channel to channel, whereas wifi sticks to one constant channel (normally). I have reinstalled my mac twice, thinking that somehow my drivers were corrupted. This was false becuase everytime I reinstalled it did the same thing, Act fine for 5-10 minutes and randomly the internet connection would freeze up all together for 10-20 seconds. I have also tried contacting apple multiple times and they tried to do a smc and pram reset. They also tried to get rid of my chaches in my computer. It all seemed to be fine, and then when I got off the phone it would act us once more.
I have read numerous articles to try and fix the situation; one of them was to try change the location of the network and change the MTU size. No help. I called At&T (my internet provider) and got a new router and that did work for a while. But eventually acted up again. The router was still 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g. I read this article and found out that my Magic Mouse might be causing the issue. Turns out to be true. Everytime I would browser the internet or browse the itunes store and it would freeze, i would immediatly turn the bluetooth off and what do you know, it works!!! This is a huge dissapointment in apple however. It seems to be only a macbook pro w/ retina display issue. My other macbook pro only acts up when i'm using my newer one (something is wrong with the bluetooth and wifi in the retina for the 2.4 ghz frequencies.
I just got a Airport express, and have not experienced this issue what so ever. This is due to the fact that it is a dual band wireless router. It supports 2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz both at 802.11 a/b/g/n which is a major improvement compared to what I had. I use the 5Ghz frequency and have no issues still.
This is still an issue however because if I want to go out and use anothers persons wifi, I can't control their frequency. So I will still have this issue.

  • Macbook Retina with Mountain Lion issues after waking from sleep.

Macbook Retina with Mountain Lion has the spinning beach ball of death after waking from sleep a few times. Anyone else seeing this?  A fresh boot is very quick, but waking from sleep lags at times.  Then after a few times the spinning beachball of death appears and nothing is responsive making me reboot the machine.

I've been suffering from this too, and am currently trying this:

Seems to be tied to this 'Power Nap' feature.  I tuned it for 12 hours instead of 24.

  • Macbook Retina 15" GPU drop Issues

Hello, first of all sorry for my poor english (i'm spanish, but i use this forum rather than the spanish because here there's more activity).
Here's my question: I have a Macbook Retina 15" mid 2012, i usually play games on it with bootcamp (i know, this isn't a gaming machine but i've been playing on it since now perfectly). I use it connected to a 27" FullHD monitor. The problem is that when i'm playing games (it doesn't matter if they`re very demmanding or not) it shows smoothly but after some minutes suddenly the framerate drops, but later continues to play smooth. I used NvidiaInspector to show temperatures but they seem normal (here is summer, and playing CPU is over 80º celsius and GPU usually is over 70-75ª). The NvidiaInspector also shows constant drops in GPU voltage when start the game fps dropping. What could happen? Thanks!!!
    More Information:
In bootcamp i have installed Windows 8 64 bits and the latest drivers. I have up to date the EFI, and i tried te SMC reset with no results.

    Bienvenido/a
Does it only happen in Windows? If so, do you notice that fans go faster when temperature increases?
I don't recommend to play games for a long time with a MacBook Pro with Retina display because it overheats quickly and it may cause problems. It's possible that the GPU slows down because of the temperature.
If your Mac is in warranty, simply take it to an Apple Store or reseller and tell them what happens, because it could be a hardware problem

  • In my macbook pro hdmi, usb & SD card reader not working

In my macbook pro hdmi, usb & sc card reader not working.
i have tried the SRM reset done, till not working started.
Could you please resolve this problem,

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Simply take it to an Apple Store or reseller if it's in warranty. Your Mac will be repaired or replaced for free because it looks a hardware problem rather than a software issue.
If it's not in warranty, hold Command and R keys while your MacBook is starting up, and reinstall OS X. If it doesn't work, you can't do much more to solve the problem

  • Is there any way to attach a third external monitor to my 13" Macbook Retina?

I was really disappointed to learn on Friday that my 13" retina isn't capible of powering three external screens. I had two DP to VGA adapters plugged in, and the HDMI. Immediately two screens lit up. However, one remained black. I thought closing the laptop lid would free enough resources to allow the third screen to display, but no go
I would so very very much like three external screens that I've been investigating my options:
    1) Return it and get the 15". I actually tried to do this, but I stupidly threw out my box even though I only got the Macbook ~8 days ago. Apple wants all packaging and manuals, so this isn't quite possible. My next option is to sell it on Craigslist or something at a loss. Not exactly ideal.
    2) Split the signal of one of the connections by using something like Matrox's DualHead2Go. Not ideal though because it's likely one screen spanned across two monitors.
    3) Get a USB to VGA adapter. I'm not even sure if this would work, but it seems like my best bet.
Also if it helps my monitors look like this:
    Left: Small VGA 5x4 screen.
    Center: Large DVI 16x9 screen.
Right: Another small VGA 5x4 screen.
Does anyone have any suggestions for this poor ******* who didn't do enough research before buying his Macbook Retina?
    Thanks!
    John
Also, I would rather not use the retina screen when using the external monitors. I prefer either just the retina or just externals. It just feels weird mixing externals + the laptop screen.

  • Macbook retina display won't sleep

Anyone else have this problem ? I don't know if its a macbook retina issue or mountain lion issue, just want to see how common it is. The screen won't turn off even after I set power preferences to turn off when idle for 2 min. When I try to force it to sleep from apple drop down menu, the screen turns black and freezes.

my laptop goes to sleep at night... fan stops making noise..
    and I shut my laptop...
then I wake up and find my retina fan humming away and the computer is hot,
why is it running in it's sleep? when Im not using it??
i even have "put hard disk to sleep" after an hour...
    why is it not??

  • Connecting 2013 Macbook Retina 15" to Acer B286 HK monitor via Thunderbolt.

I have a 2013 Macbook Retina 15" and would like to connect an Acer B286 HK monitor via Thunderbolt/MiniDisplayPort.
I am using the standard Apple Thunderbolt cable, but it does not work. The monitor complains about "No signal".

Short answer: I have this exact configuration, and yes, the newest rMBP 15" w/Nvidia card will drive the UP3214Q over HDMI at 4k and 30Hz. It will drive it as a separate desktop with the laptop open, and it will drive it as the sole display -- either way works fine.
Longer answer: You should be aware of 2 things (that I wish I had been more aware of before purchasing the monitor)
    1) If you are used to 60Hz or higher, the 30Hz limitation over HDMI is noticable, even in day-to-day productivity work. The mouse lag is very noticable and annoying to me.
    2) Scaling/HiDPI support [the way the integrated retina display works] is virtually nonexistant at the resolution you'd want to run it at. What this means is that you either run the monitor at a lower resolution (and everything is blurry), or you run it at full resolution and everything (menu, dock, fonts, etc) is extremely small. You can use SwitchResX to enable scaling support at odd resolutions (for instance, I've successfully gotten HiDPI/scaling to run at 1920x1200 and 2048x1080, with black bars at the edges), but it's not an ideal resolution for this size monitor. I want to match the TB display resolution (2560x1440) in HiDPI mode, but I've been unable to get it working after hacking away at it for 2 days.
I'm hoping that Apple will fix these limitations. Multiple people have reported that MST over DP1.2 works on the same hardware if you boot into Windows, so the hardware support is there -- it just needs to be enabled in the drivers by Apple. Whether they actually will or not is anyone's guess. In the meantime I (and many others) are in limbo wondering if we should return these 4k displays, or keep them and hope "proper" support comes. Since it's not a specifically advertised capability, Apple isn't under any obligation, but I think there's more than a few people hoping that Apple does right by the users and enables the full functionality that the hardware supports.

  • Trying to see screen from 13 macbook with hdmi on Tv

  • Raid drive (seagates) ejects on macbook retina sleep, Raid drive ejects on macbook retina sleep

Whoever can help me with this you would be my hero.  This problem plagues me.
So I have four hard drives hooked up to my macbook retina all USB 3.0.  All connected through 2 USB Hubs.
All drives work fine except I have severe issue with the raid drive.  It has two new seagate baraccuda 7200 @ 3 TB, for a total of 3 TB in RAID 1 mode (data reducndancy).
The problem is no matter whether I set the energy saver setting to put the drives to sleep when possible or not and leave them always running as soon as my MAC sleeps and I wake it up it says "please unmount or eject drive before unplugging" or something to that effect and then I have to reboot to access the drive.
I have had this probelm with two different enclosures and even went so far as to use a app called "jetison" which is supposed to eject your Hard drives before letting the computer sleep.  Nothing helps.
Is it the drives themselves?  Is it RAID 1 confguration on mac?  I even tried changing enclosures and still have the same probelm.. but could it nonetheless be the enclosure???

I should point out I have tried the drive with different cords, on different hubs, and directly into the computer.  Nothing helps.
