MacBook runs hot with Windows 7

I have one application that runs in Windows so I loaded Windows 7 using Bootcamp on my MacBook. The problem is the processor temp rises, even when setting idle with only the Windows desktop. When I start and use the application (MediaShout) it gets even hotter. I don't know the actual temp, however, I can tell it is quite hot and the fan progressively winds up.
Any thoughts?

Try running on battery and in Win7 switch power options to balanced vs performance. Do this first when launching Win7 ... do NOT allow this app to auto start when windows starts. Lastly see if the fans remain idle.
Also:
Boot camp or vm?
any other apps or services running in os x while using win7?

  • T61 running hot with Windows 8

I did a clean install of Windows 8, with the latest power manager driver (1.67.4.4). Now my T61(7661-E17) idles at 50C (balanced power plan), Windows Media Center pushes it over 70C. CoreTemp is used to display CPU temperature.
Is any one else seeing this? This cannot be normal.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank you so much for your good advice. The temperatures may be normal after all.
My T61 has T7300 with 3GB of RAM. the R61 has T7700 with 3GB of RAM. I personally put in the CPUs and applied paste late 2012. I don't think hardware is to blame, especially when both computers are hot.
I did not pay much attention to CPU temperature when I first installed Windows 8. Last November my R61 started crashing with live TV, that was when I noticed it was running at 70C. It turned out R61 can easily handle 70C, so I thought Hauppauge tuner was overheating, but was told yesterday by Hauppauge support that their tuner worked fine with Windows 8 and 8.1. Finally today I realized that it is the driver for SoundBlaster 5.1 surround sound pro that is causing R61 to crash. I switched to the driver included with Windows 8, from Microsoft, and it appears to be running fine.
My problem is solved. Thanks again for the help.

  • My new macbook air 10.7.3 is running hot with the fan blowing just by using the internet. Is there something wrong with the computer?

My new macbook air is 10.7.3 s running hot, with the fan blowing after about one hour on the internet. It will also run very hot with the fan blowing when it is closed and in sleep mode, is this normal? My macbook pro did not do this.

My Macbook Pro 15" Early 2008 model had been running hot for a long time.
    Checked Activity Monitor.  (Applications/Utilities)
AdobeResourceSynchronizer was taking 83% of CPU usage.
Did a google search and found information regarding AdobeResourceSynchronizer causing high CPU usage and heat.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/822790
Problem seems to be Adobe Resource Synchronizer.app
To disable go to: System Preferences > Accounts
Click the Padlock icon, enter password if needed, click Login Items,
    uncheck AdobeResourceSynchronizer
I don't know how this got install on this computer.
I suspect Adobe Reader. AdobeResourceSynchronizer.app is within the Adobe Reader application package.
Control Click (or right click) the Adobe Reader app, click Show Package Contents
    Location: Applications/Adobe Reader.app/Contents/Support/AdobeResourceSynchronizer.app
Some other Adobe applications may also cause this to run.
After disabling this in System Preferences > Accounts, temperature seems to be acceptable.
Also start Adobe Reader X, go to Preferences, Tracker and in the "Automatically Check for New Comments and Form Data", slide the top slider all the way to the right so is says Never.
After having done all this and restarted the computer, check Activity Monitor again and see if
AdobeResourceSynchronizer is still running. If it is you can click on it so it is highlighted and click the Quit button in the upper left.
This solved my excess heat problem.

itunes won't recognize/play/import any cd i put in the drive. I am also running paralells with windows 7 and have disabled media player. any suggestions?

    I have the same problem.
    On launch itunes works fine.
If I let it play through a full album of songs unatended, when I return it respondes, but will not play music. I can browse my collection, but when i click the play button, press the space bar with a track selected or double cclick a track it will not play. A restart of iTunes solves the problem temporarily.

How can I run MP350 with Windows 8.1 computer?
It works OK with Windows 7 machine, using drivers from original CD.
Windows 8,1 machine doesn't find those drivers (which I copied to its C drive).
It doesn't find needed drivers on the internet.

  • Running parallels with windows xp. want to upgrade my Quickbooks to 2013, but it will not recognize the disc.  Help!

running parallels with windows xp and OS X Lion.  Trying to upgrade my Quickbooks on the windows side to the new 2013 version.  The windows side does not even recognize the disc.  What am I doing wrong?

S that QB edition is only for windows 8. It won't run on any earlier version of windows.
Looking at the QB 2013 system requirement it runs on XP.
    http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/articles/INF21187
So the version of windows is not your problem. Your problem is the virtual machine is not se to use the mac dvd drive. Have you looking into the machine settings. Not windows settings, the virtual machine settings. Make sure it is set to connect the mac dvd drive to the virtual machine.
A good place to start would be the parallels help system. Not the windows help system.

  • How can I use the MacBook Pro webcam with Windows XP apps under Parallel?

Thank you in advance for your help with this matter.
I have a MacBook Pro and I have just installed Parallel with Windows XP. I would like to use the webcam that comes with the laptop for applications that run under Windows XP (ex.: PalTalk).
The application doesn't seen to recognize the camera. Do I have to load the drivers for this camera in XP? If so where can I find them and what is the process?
    Thank you again,
    Enrico

You probably need to load the Boot Camp drivers that are on the Leopard DVD. Whether it works or not I can't say, but you may want to post your question on the Parallels forums, since it's not an Apple product, and if anyone has gotten it to work you'll find them over there.

This time I did everything correct...
    Any tips?
You download the Windows Support Software for your installation while you are in Boot Camp Assistant (the program you used to create the partition) it is one of the very first steps you need to take: (see below)
Go back to Boot Camp Assistant and download the software.

  • Can you run iTunes with Windows 98?

I have a dell lap top I would like to use iTunes on but cant find a iTunes program for Windows 98. I want to use my iPod with the lap top.

iTunes for Windows was first introduced for Windows 2000 so there isn't a version that works natively with either 98 or ME. You could have a look at XPlay or Anapod, either of which will work with Windows 98/ME. However both of these are commercial programs so you might consider it worth the extra expense to upgrade to XP if your computer will run it. Staying with 98/ME, you may also require drivers, there is a link in the Anapod page to suitable iPod/USB drivers:

  • PowerBook runs HOT with iPhone connected

Has anyone else observed their computer running hot (fans rev up real fast!) while their iPhone is connected? I'm still waiting for "the new at&t" to get my activation unclogged, so maybe it's just because my iPhone is still in a pre-activated mode, but whenever I connect it to my 12" PowerBook G4, the computer starts heating up and revving its fans like it is working REALLY HARD. A check of the Activity Monitor shows that the CPU is below 10% and there are no unusual messages flooding the console.log or system.log ...
    Anyone else seeing this?

Yes, my PowerBook revs up even when both it and the iPhone are idle (screenlocked even-- the iPhone not the PowerBook!)
But you have a point.. maybe the problem has something to do with the PowerBook's power management chip. I'll try following Apple's PMU reset procedure tonight when I get home. While I'm at it, I'll try an Open Firmware reset too.
    I'll post my findings..
Thanks everyone for your help on this!
My fiancee's iPhone connects to her 1.25 GHz 12" PB
without the rev-up problem most of the time. But it
does rev up when it's doing anything remotely
computationally intensive, like resizing photos. If
yours is doing that just from being connected, that
is strange. What is the internal temperature of the
PB? (There are some programs and dashboard widgets
that will tell you, I think - not sure what
thermometers the 12" PB has.) Maybe you have a vent
    blocked or something.
This might be becoming a question for the 12" PB
messageboard - maybe it's a general problem with
high-drain USB devices on some models?
Have you tried hooking up the iPhone through a
powered USB hub? That would perhaps isolate if it's
a current-drain issue. Maybe this is a symptom of
other power-supply problems with the PB.

  • IMac 21.5" 2010 Running Hot with Mountain Lion

    Hello All -
I have a 2010 iMac i3 with 8GB RAM that I clean installed Mountain Lion on and the thing gets hot (very hot to the touch on the outside) very fast doing ordinary tasks (email, browsing the internet using Safari or Chrome, calendar). Temperatures on the hard drive typically stay below 50C but the power supply specifically can reach 75-80C when running full screen HD video (GPU will be around 55-60C at this time as well). The fans will increase to about 1500rpm for heavy loads and then go back to around 1000-1200rpm during normal tasks. I feel like Snow Leopard did not run this hot and perhaps because of all the iCloud and Notification Center processes running behind the scenes, ML may just require far more power than SL. Honestly, I'm really considering just going back to SL all together as I don't use much of the iCloud stuff.
Has anyone else noticed their iMac's running hotter after installing ML? I realize that it will run hot for up to a week after install because of Spotlight. I installed ML the day it came out, so it's been quite a while. I would really appreciate any feedback.

  • Macbook Pro 13" Haswell running hot in Windows 8.1

Hello, I have just purchased a Mid 2014 Macbook Pro with retina display and installed Windows 8.1 using bootcamp. My problem: running the windows partition seems to heat up my Macbook for no apparent reason. The heat builds up as soon as windows boots up and doesn't go away--even if I have 0% CPU utilization and the computer just sits at the desktop. I have checked CPU temperatures and they appear to be normal as well, but for some reason the underside of the computer gets hot to the touch. I just wanted to know if I'm the only one experiencing this using Windows through bootcamp with the latest drivers, and if it is fixable. Any help would be appreciated.

    Yes...
I also just recently purchased a MacBook Pro retina 15 (mid-2014) with bootcamp (windows 8.1) installed.  While using my windows partition, the MBP seems to be running a bit hot, at least hotter than the OS X partition.
As for comparison, I have the 2012 MacBook Pro retina 13 with bootcamp (windows 8.1).  It does not get as hot as the 15, and in fact, I don't think it runs hotter than OS X...
Any thoughts?  Is it perhaps because I have the NVIVIDA dedicated graphics and in the windows partition, IRIS PRO isn't running?
