Macbook Santa Rosa Keyboard Swap

Hello i have on of the first macbooks that was put out a couple of years ago and i was wondering if i were to switch the keyboard for the new santa rosa would the keys be the same as my old keyboard meaning would i still have to press F5 in order to turn up the volume even though the button is now on F12?

I don't believe it will work. The keyboards have different part numbers.

  • External Monitor Suggestions (19"-22") for MacBook (Santa Rosa,GMA X3100)

Man! I am loving this new macbook, working with Logic Studio.
    Any External Monitor Suggestions (19"-22")?
Looking for a reliable monitor at a good price.
    thanks in advance!

I'm using a Samsung 19 inch SyncMaster 940BW digital/analog wide screen monitor. It comes with both a DVI and a VGA cable. I am using it with a Mini DVI to DVI cable and getting a great digital picture out. It also was good price.

  • Fn + delete, other shortcuts not working with new Santa Rosa Macbooks?

I recently received a brand new Macbook (Santa Rosa platform) as a replacement for my defunct old Macbook (which was the previous generation). I've noticed in bootcamp, Fn+Delete no longer serves as a shortcut for the Del key in windows. Nor does Fn+Up or Fn+Down serve as PgUp, PgDn respectively. Is this intentional, or something that I can get a fix for?

I don't know if my solution will help everyone else, but I am using BootCamp 1.4b and recently reformatted my Windows drive. I had the Mac drivers for this backed up on my Windows PC and I used my PC to burn them to disk. After troubleshooting the problem described above for many hours (or at least one with the same symptoms), I found that the keyboard driver on my cd was corrupt (stupid CD-RWs never work right.) Since I had my ethernet up and running at that point, I was able to use the Windows on my Mac to pull the drivers off my network share and then I deleted the Human Interface Devices as described above and then reran the Mac driver setup program. After I restarted, everything worked fine.
WARNING: Make sure you can do everything you need to do using only the mouse since the keyboard will not function at all after deleting the devices.

  • Installation Mountain Lion on Mac model Santa Rosa is possible?

    Hi,
I want install on my macbook Santa Rosa the new Mountain Lion. Is possible? My Mac has 4GB ram...

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) model number 2,1 or higher
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Xserve (Early 2009) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space
Check to make sure your applications are compatible.         Application Compatibility
If you have applications that you want to use that aren't compatible, you can retain Snow Leopard and create a new partition to install Mountain Lion on or you can run Snow Leopard  server in a virtual mode.
If your computer isn't compatible, you might be able to upgrade to Lion.        Computer Compatibility - Lion
If you can/do upgrade, I recommend you make a copy of the installer and move it out of your Applications folder. The installer self-destructs. The copy will keep you from having to download the installer again.

  • Mac Book Santa Rosa 13" 2.2 GHz, HDD upgrade

    Hello,
I would like to change the hard drive of my MacBook Santa Rosa 13" 2.2 GHz.
I would like to go fo an SSD Drive. I checked and find out that the kingston have got a good price.
There is something that is quite annoying me though, they propose model with Serial ATA III and serial ATA II. I tought Serial ATA III was compatible with older technology. So my questions are:
Why do they propose two versions (especially when the SATA II version is more expensive) ?
Will a SATA III SSD will work in my old macbook ? any idea of the perf ?
    Thanks a lot,
    Regards,
    Julien

Before 2009, all SATA Macs only supported 1.5 Gbps SATA.
Starting in 2010 they started supporting higher speed SATA.
During 2009, Apple provided firmeware updates for 2009 models that didn't support higher speed SATA to support it. That said, many SATA drives offer a jumper to slow down the bus speed so older machines can support them. Until the unibody models, only the 17" MacBook Pro supported higher than 9.5mm drive heights..
If the drive in question has to be thinner, naturally it might cost more because of the shrinking of components..
Slower speed SATA drives are becoming less common, thus can become more expensive as supply is outweighed by demand.
Before you jump the SSD bandwagon, remember, there is no technology that can totally wipe the drive,  unlike with platter drives.  If your machine is sold in the future, be sure not to put any personally identifying data on it, once you switch to SSD, unless they erasing technology improves. .

  • I have to input a password in order to log in each time I turn on my Macbook Pro Santa Rosa under Mountain Lion. Now my built-in keyboard suddenly doesn't respons at all. And the bluetooth function seems to activate automatically even though I turn it off

I have to input a password to log in to my Macbook Pro Santa Rosa under Mountain Lion. Now suddenly the built-in keyboard doesn't work at all so I cannot use my computer. I also notice that the bluetooth function is activated automatically even though I turn it off. It looks for an external keyboard. Please help me out. Many thanks!

I have the exact same problem trying to use the Remote app on both my iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 with either my Mac or ATV2.  My Remote app used to work on my phone - I can't recall if I ever actually used it with my iPad, but when I tried today, I got all the same results as you did (on both iPad, and then iPhone).  I  was using my ATV2 to play music from iTunes on my Mac and wanted to use the Remote app, but it would not connect to either device no matter what I did.

  • Repairing Macbook Pro Santa Rosa

I have a Santa rosa Macbook Pro, the logic board and everything else is fine, but the screen is missing, would it be worth repairing? Im a highschool student so i cant afford a brand new laptop. Plus i dont have much money at all

If you are handy, there are guys on eBay who break up old computers into simple field-replaceable units that can be sold for quick cash. You can buy a used screen assembly (screen array, complete, with back cover) with a Not Dead-on-Arrival DOA warranty (it will work when you take it out of the box, after that its your problem). You need to check carefully to get the correct one for your chassis.
Building a computer from parts is a very expensive way to build a computer. It only pans out if you have the expensive parts already. But to do it any other way requires experience, which you may not have, But you will get from swapping out the screen.
One of the expensive parts is the battery, and they have a limited life, in the Mac or on the shelf. There are no cheap used batteries with a warranty.
EDIT: Kappy has mentioned ifixit, which brings up two issues:
They have great illustrated take-apart diagrams.
There are dozens of tiny screws inside these computers. It is very sensible to tape the screws to the diagram showing where they came from. I know that sounds like overkill, but if you get the part installed, then look at the pile of screws, dozens of them, nearly identical but not quite the same, you will understand why it makes sense to do it this way.

  • Design Limitation On ALL Santa Rosa MacBook Pros, 2.2 and 2.4 GHz

While searching the Internet for answers to my new $2500.00 MBP headphone (output jack) has audible hissing sounds I found several posts on Macrumors.com and macintouch.com to explain the design Limitation/Problem. To summarize:
    The Problem
The issue has three components, as described in this MacinTouch Report:
    - A low hiss that is constant whenever the audio circuitry is on
    - Static that occurs whenever anything is playing... even something quiet.
    - A series of high-pitched noises that occur somewhat randomly. The best comparison I've seen is that it's like listening to those hearing tests where you raise your hand when you hear a tone.
The problem only occurs with low-impedance headphones (more on this below).
    Some Facts
    - The problem occurs on ALL Santa Rosa MacBook Pros, 2.2 and 2.4 GHz. It is a design flaw on Apple's part, and returning your machine for a new one will not help. There are plenty of people who say they can't hear the noise, but those people either have high-impedance headphones or speakers, or just don't have very good hearing.
    - Only Santa Rosa MacBook Pros seem to be affected by this particular static problem. I've seen some reports of other machines having audio issues, but they are always different.
    - The 'Audio Update 2007-001' that Apple released about two weeks ago doesn't fix it. It does fix a popping problem on all Intel Macs (including the SR MBPs), so it's worth installing, but that is a different problem than this one.
    - It does seem to be an Apple-specific problem; I've been unable to find any other reports of non-Apple Santa Rosa notebooks having the same problem.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue with their new MBP?
    Thanks,
    B

I experience the issue as well both in OS X and when I'm in Windows Vista.
Whenever a program uses audio, there is an annoying high-pitched hissing noise from the built-in speakers.
Of course the severity of the problem depends on the individual hearing ability, but everyone I have asked, have been able to hear the noise.
Apple is known to be the first choice of audio professionals; however this problem is below that standard.

  • Everyone with a santa rosa macbook pro..

did the wireless fix sort the issues out!? i really need to no. without the wireless working on my macbook pro when i get it in a week..itl be useless!
    everyone whats going on???

MBP Santa Rosa 17", now four days old, officially. Forgot completely about all the wireless/networking problems cited here, and, therefore, just joined my household network (LinkSys) Wednesday afternoon without thinking.
    Everything went perfectly.
Took said MBP to another location this weekend (wi-fi'd marina), again forgetting about the potential problem joining that setup . . . but no difficulty again.
Hope I'm not the exception. LOVE THE NEW MACHINE thus far: no display problems, no wi-fi problems, no kernal crashes, no nothing. Fingers crossed and smile on mouth!

  • Xcode3 Completely Freezes Leopard 10.5.3 on Santa Rosa MacBook Pro

    Hi
I am recently workin on a software project on Xcode3 (with all the latest Updates)
with great disappointments i found out that very often (not every day or every time i use it) while in the process of editing source files the leopard user interface completely freezes (something like a kernel panic happens) and the only thing i can do is to force a shutdown.
it happened to me at least 10 times (sometimes more than one time a-day). i have had user interface freezes before while using other applications but that i'm not having them anymore, the problem clearly re emerged by using xcode (which i never used before)
i suspect it has to do with bugs in the graphics drivers for the GeForce 8600M GT graphics chip that is used by my Core 2 Duo Santa Rosa Macbook Pro (2.2 Ghz) and that Mac Os 10.5.3 Still has not fixed
Anyone has the same problem? or any idea?
    Thanks

It happened once again while i was copying (Apple-C) a selected line of code on the Xcode Source file Editor
I officially submitted tha Bug Report to Apple (Bug ID# 5985528).

  • MacBook Pro 3,1 "Mid 2007" (Santa Rosa) Ledbelly Crash

    I've installed 10.10.1 on a MacBook Pro 3,1 "Mid 2007" (Santa Rosa).
All goes fine, until I try to turn OFF WiFi:
Then the whole system locks up and spontaneously reboots.
Console.log shows this right before the crash:
networkd +[NetLedBelly stopFastFail] Clearing ledbelly failure cash
    This crash is 100% reproducible.
Anyone else?  Does 10.10 actually work on a Macbook Pro 3,1 ?

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • 2008 macbook pro 15" (Santa Rosa) weird display color and vertical lines

I have the 2008 macbook pro 15" (Santa Rosa). After my upgrade to mac os x lion (10.8.2), I noticed that periodically the screen either turns to weird display color and have horizontal lines on screen. This happens mostly during start up and lasts for about a min or two. Does this happen because of a faulty graphics card? I have NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB card on this macbook pro. Please advice

Nope - it sounds as if you've GPU issues and the discrete GPU is soldered onto the logic board. take your new machine into your local Apple Store for a replacement. Don't wait too long!

  • MacBook Pro - with Santa Rosa - Kernel Panics

The local Apple store has replaced my new Santa Rosa MacBook Pro once already and when I received the machine, I did a brand new install and then transferred my files over. They told me that if I still get Kernel Panics on this second machine to go ahead and do an Archive and Install or Full Install option.
Until Time Machine is out, what is the best backup method for keeping all files and settings if you want to do a complete new install and format?
Does anyone think a brand new install will fix this? Also, this machine is getting a lot less KP's than the previous Santa Rosa MBP got. Any ideas why?
Here is my panic.log below. Does anyone have any ideas what this Unresolved Kernel Panic Means?

    Hi Kaleb,
I got a similar problem with my MacBook Pro. Kernel panic with Airport atheros driver. My router is Linksys WRT300n. A brand new install didn't fix the problem. This is the panic.log of the most recent KP.

I have no answer from my Apple resellers in France. Alone in the dark :'-(
BUT everything goes well since I stop using the '$' in the pre-shared key and the SSID. I haven't experience any new KP since 03/06 with a intensive Airport use... I hop this can help you.
    Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro 15" • 120GB HD • 1GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

  • Santa rosa macbook+4gb ram PLZ HELPPPPP

i have a santa rosa macbook (on the box it says it supports up to 4gb) and i was trying to upgrade ram to 4gb from the default 1gb. So i bought 2X 2gb comstar ram from futureshop.
the problem is that when i try to put both of the new sticks for a total of 4 gb, the macbook will turn on but the screen will be black and the sleep indicator light on.
however, when i only put one 2gb in and leave the other slot filled with default 512mb stick for a total of 2.5gb, it will turn on properly and recognize it as 2.5 gb.
I've tried switching ram and slots numerously to determine if it's the slot or ram fault, but it doesn't work whever it's 4gb and works if it's 2.5gb.

    Hello everybody,
Today unfortunately I got 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair low latency (VSA4GSDSKIT667C4) and I'm having the same problem as some of you, the system just handle up to 3GB. I tried many different combination but no luck at the moment. What is going on? Corsair is selling something that doesn't have any guarantee. I'm very disappointed and upset.
    My MacBook specs:
    Model Name: MacBook
    Model Identifier: MacBook3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1

I don't know how many of you guys noticed this, but when I got the new Santa Rosa MB it was definitely louder than my previous C2D Macbook. Even when idle doing nothing.
I found out that the lowest rpm on the new Santa Rosa goes at 1800, which in a quiet room at night is way to loud personally.
In order to fix it just download fan control 1.2 and then put the lowest RPM setting to 1000. For me that instantly made the MB super quiet again.
Hope that helps to those that wish more silence out of the Santa Rosa books.

I made an appointment at the Apple Store I got it from (4 days after I purchased). I told them about the weird clicking noise and they took it to the back (store was pretty loud) and came back in a few minutes and offered to exchange it since I was within my 14 days. The new one is way quieter and only makes fan noise with intensive processes (as expected). Doing some research after the fact, I believe my issue was the ticking/clicking one described here: http://www.appledefects.com/wiki/index.php?title=MacBook#.22Mooing.22fan_noise.2C_Ticking.2FClicking_Fannoise Overall, they handled it pretty well (I was prepared to field an inquisition about this manufacturing flaw, luckily I didn't have to and they recognized the problem pretty quickly), and I'm finally enjoying my new MacBook.
