Macbook Says Airport Card is Uninstalled?

I bought a Spring 2010 13" Macbook Pro refurbished from Apple in late April of 2011. Two weeks later the airport card failed and Apple installed a new one for me. Everything was fine until July 28th 2012, since then i've had nothing but problems with both the airport card in my computer and the service at the local Apple store.
Sometimes when I wake my computer back up the WiFi symbol isn't connected and it says something along the lines of "No Airport Card Installed" or "Airport card Uninstalled". At this point I have to make an Genius Bar appointment and drive to the Apple store and they give me some kind of band-aid solution that only works for the day, or just a couple hours and then I no longer have internet again.
I went through this process (no connection, Genius Bar appointment, and then my airport card fails later that day or the next day) about 5 times. Sometimes two appointments with the genius bar in the same day.
Finally one of the Geniuses recommended that pay $107 for a new airport card and this would fix the problem, so I did. When I got my Macbook back it worked for 3 days, so then The Genius bar gave me yet again another band-aid solution (zapped my P-Ram or something) and sure enough it worked for a day and then I lost connection again.
I brought it back again and one Genius said they would take it in, look at it and go over the whole computer carefully. He also said that it is not an Airport Card issue, but possible a connection to the airport card. He also said that I might need to buy yet another part, but that the $107 I already paid would go toward that part, which I appreciated.
So I got my computer back 2 days ago and all they did was install another Airport card and today my Aiport card failed again. Did they even listen to me? When I got it back from them and told me they put a new airport card in I said we talked about this and that wasn't the probelm, and they just corrected me and said that it was the problem. What?! They didn't even read over any of the notes they took down from my last visit!?
I have been to the Genius Bar about 7 or 8 times now (I would have gone more but I was out of town for a week) and I'm not getting the right answer for a busted computer that I have only had for about a year. Are they keeping something from me? This has been an awful experience despite how kind everyone acts at the apple store.
Thanks for reading, I hope someone out there has a solution for me.

Given your experience I believe it's unlikely the problem is due to a failed AirPort card. You replaced it twice and it failed twice. I would pursue another cause, but there is nothing left to do on a MBP except to replace its logic board.
If you did not purchase AppleCare your warranty has now expired, and a new motherboard will approach the cost of a brand new MacBook Pro. Considering the circumstances, I would appeal to a Genius to consider the repair efforts conducted so far and discuss the most inexpensive solution. Good luck!

  • Do I Need Airport Express If Both My iMac and MacBook Have Airport Cards

Just ordered a new MacBook that has a built-in airport card. Also will be using my good old iMac (both running Leopard 10.5.6). Since both computers have the built-in airport cards, do I still need Airport Express so I can use a WiFi network? I've already set up an Airport WiFi network on my iMac so I can WiFi my iPod touch. Isn't it the same principle? Hate to waste money if I don't have to. Also, I've got another iMac in the house that also has an Airport card (also running 10.5.6). It's in the shop for repair now so I can't try this out to see if it works - but can I simply turn on airport and internet sharing on that mac and let it use the WiFi network already set up on my other mac? Hmmm??? Thanks for any help.

Basically what you have done is utilize OS X's Internet Sharing feature on your iMac. This turns your iMac into a "software" router. In this case, you MacBook (& other wireless clients) can access the Internet through the iMac so you do not need to get a hardware router, like an Express or Extreme base station in order to do so. The only constraint is that the iMac must be on for this to work.

  • New Macbook Pro: Airport Card Malfunctioning?

    Hello-
I just bought a refurbished MacBook Pro from the Apple Store, and am having some problems with my Airport connection. Diagnostics show that the connection to my Linksys wireless router is working properly, but it is behaving as if I am out of range of the router. If pages in my browser load at all, it takes them a VERY long time. Around the house, the status bar never shows above 3 bars of signal. In fact, even if I place the computer directly alongside the router, signal still shows 3 bars strength. Page load times improve the closer I get to the router, however. And, if I connect via ethernet cable, internet behavior is normal. Did my 'new' refurbished MacBook Pro arrive with a faulty Airport card? Is there a way to test? Both my Powerbook G4 and my wife's Windows laptop are showing full signal strength in all parts of the house with no connection problems, whatsoever.
Not sure if these are clues, but upon receiving this new computer, I elected to transfer all of my files and applications automatically from my older Titanium Powerbook G4 when I was first getting it set up. I did have to change my manually-assigned IP for the new machine so as not to 'compete' with the older machine when accessing my wireless router, but that was the only thing I thought I'd have to do.
Thanks in advance for any help! I hope I didn't buy a lemon.

Just wanted to update with what appears to be my solution to this problem. Bought a new router yesterday (a Netgear Dualband wireless N), and have been up and running fine since. No more hanging, and signal strength is full from anywhere in the house.

  • MacBook (Black) Airport card fail to detect and enable after wake

I have had problems with my internal Airport card, I was having problems when the macbook started with not airport card detection, card overheating after using, this happened randomly.
After a apple certificated distribuitor test (for warranty) they found that it was only the airport card, they changed. After that, I have less issues with airport, but I still have the problem that the airport card doesn't work (disabled) after wake from suspended mode.
Is it a software or hardware issue?
    Any idea, suggestion or fix?
I really desappointed with mac performance/quality after these issues.

    Hello,
I guess I'm having same issue like yours, but my card somehow start to work when I turn airport off then on again. Once macbook awake from sleep or suspended mode, the WIFI signal would shown in "weak" status, then turn "strong" suddenly, but the actual connection is very unstable. I need to turn off the card then on again every time to solve the problem. I tried SMC reset or other method, but the problem still remain...

  • Macbook Pro Airport Card looses connection if not running a continuous network ping

Okay, I have a crazy issue going on.
Since I upgraded to Mountain Lion, soon after my Airport Card started disconnecting from any network and I would have to turn it off/on to get it working again and then it would die about 45 seconds later.  This repeats over and over.  I have found that if I run a continuous ping to something else on the network it will stay live and not disconnect.  So, my Airport Card will stay connected if I run a continuous ping, but without it it will die every time.  What the heck is going on?  Did Mountain Lion put something in the firmware on my Airport card that is messing it up?  I have done fresh installs many times and downgraded to lion and snow lepard and still the same issue.  Is my Wifi Nic just dead or is this some other issues like the antenna?  I have a new Wifi Nic in route from China but I want to make sure I finish running through all other possibilities before it arrives.
    Thank you
    Kevin Monette

I'm sure you meant to post in the appropriate forum. This area is for MBP (Original). You want MacBook Pro (Late 2008 and Early 2009) here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=190
    1. Try typing a $ before your password, so $password.
    2. Proximity to your router without walls in the way is helpful for proper signal. Proper orientation of your router is also helpful.

  • MacBook Pro Airport Card disabled

    Hello to everyone,
After the reboot following the last early june updates (10.5.7, Airport Client Update 2009-001 and iLife 09) I have a problem with my macbook pro 17' late 2008 (alu) Airport card : it is disabled and can't be enabled !
The airport internal card is BCM43xx.
To solve this after a few readings (I seem not to be the only one concerned with this problem) I tryed to :
    o Make again a combo 10.5.7 update
    o Re-install Airport Client update 2009-001
o Create another user on the computer -> not user related
o Delete the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration directory, followed with disk authorisations repairing and a reset with PRAM erase -> The Airport started, but turned disabled again after a few seconds ....
I add the wifi network is made with an Airport Extreme, nothing was changed on this side and my other MacBook Pro airport is running fine (same updates, just an older MBP).
I also tryed to have a look at the console but found no errors, I have a frequent message : +(com.apple.AirPortBaseStationAgent) Unknown key for boolean: EnableTransactions+ but that's all ...
If someone has a few more ideas please help ...
    Thanks a lot
    Regards.

If this can help, I solved my airport problem by doing a SMC reset of my MBP. The airport card is now detected, with the latest updates.

  • Recognizes wireless signal, but macbook says "airport has no IP address"

Until 2 days ago, my macbook connected easily to my college campus's wireless network as well has the wireless in my girlfriend's apartment.
Now, it is reading the wireless network, shows full signal in the aiport icon, but when i open network preferences, airport says "not connected" and it also reads "airport has no IP address"
What is the problem?? Please help!

I've had the same problem before, and I've also been one of the victims of the erratic and slow wifi connections with my MacBook. Turning IPv6 off in the TCP/IP section of the AirPort control panel seemed to speed up and stabilize my connection, at least for now. Fingers crossed it keeps it up! Thanks!

  • 2011 Macbook Pro Airport card Issues

    Hi guys,
I have been having a problem with my 15" 2011 Macbook Pro. Over the last week my wifi has been malfunctioning. I will be able to succesfully connect to my WiFi for about 30 minutes, but then the signal drops. When I click on the connection reticule on the top right it says my WiFi is on, but that no hotspots can be detected. There are at least half a dozen hotspots near me.
After this, if I turn off the WiFi it will not turn back on. I have to restart my Macbook to regain connectivity. This has not coincided with any recent installations of hardware or software.
If anyone has solutions I would be very grateful. I have tried resetting my PRAM. I am about 2 months out of warranty. So, if this does require service I would appreciate any estimates on the cost.
    Thank you!
    Ryan

    Your router is likely fine.
You should first update the Airport firmware for it, simply run the Airport and Software update.
    See this
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3802
And then go to your System Preferences > Network > Advanced > TCP/IP and for IPv6 turn : OFF
Reboot and see how that goes.
When you connect to the router it gives you a lease on a IP address, if your computer's time and date are off this could make the lease expire and you connect and then get disconnected. So check that, see if it holds.
    Reset your SMC and NVRAM/PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Go to your <home> /Library/Preferences and drag the
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
file to the desktop and reboot, it will be rebuilt, hit your Sytem Preferences and reset them.
drag the useless file on the desktop to the trash.

  • How do I find out if my mac's airport card supports 802.11n ?

It just says Airport Extreme in System profile and it also says that on my wife's iBook - wondering about maximising our network speeds with an upgrade to AEBS and TV.
    thanks

You can replace your Macbook Pro airport card with the 2 antennae "N" card designed for the Mac Pro.
    Just search these forums....

  • G4 without airport card installed

Hi, ive got a G4 lamp style imac without a airport card installed. I have a wireless route connected to the above mac. Installed the airtunes software and it says airport card not found.
Does this mean I have to buy and airport card or can I connnect to the airport express basestation using my wireless router?
    many thanks

    David White15:
A Base Station won't "detect" a remote Base Station - ie you cannot just use an Airport Express, cabled to a Mac, as a replacement for an Airport card without first performing the required configuration of both Airport Express devices.
What you first need to do is set up a wireless distribution system (WDS) between these two Airport Express devices. Since you apparently don't have an Airport card equipped Mac to help you perform the configuration, you must configure each device manually, one at a time, with a direct cabled connection using the Airport Admin Utility. The general instructions are found at:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107454
This is a complicated setup, not really a beginner's project, so it doesn't surprise me you couldn't figure out how to get this all to work even with the help of Apple tech support and Apple's Knowledgebase articles. My suggestion - use one of your Airport Express devices as a Base Station, and buy an Airport card for your iMac. That will be a lot easier to set up.

  • Airport card not conected

all of a sudden i can not conect wirelesly when i click on the wireles icon it says airport card not conected and if i try to turn on airport nothing happens can the card come loose or is it a more serious problem

    (10.5.3)
Use Software Update to update your OS to last version of Leopard.  Install all the other updates that goes along w/it.  Don't remember if any Airpport updates for Leopard.
After the installations, repair permissions and restart your computer.
    Please post back your results.

  • Wi-Fi gone: "No Airport Card Installed."

Last night I watched Netflix just fine,  put my laptop to bed and this morning, no wif-fi connection!!. Blank airport icon reading "No Airport Card Installed."
Recently installed new battery, not that that probably matters. Do you think my Airport Card died overnight? I have tried restarting twice and nothing. Other devices can connect to the wi-fi just fine. Any suggestions? Looks like this, below.... thank you tech-heads for any help you can give me. Staying tethered to the modem is a drag... especially since  I just forked over $130 for a new battery! I have a MBp-17 with OS 10.5.8, Mahalo from Kona Hawaii.

Unfortunately this probably means that your MacBook's AirPort card has died. Last desperate effort at reviving it, try resetting the PRAM on the MacBook and if that does not change anything reset the System Management Controller.
If none of those work, carry it in for service or call Apple at the appropriate phone number on this page to have them set up service.
    Best of luck.

  • Using a second base station instead of an airport card - possible?

    I have the following items
    1 Airport base satiation (new)
    1 Graphite Airport bas station
1 iMac 350 – does not support airport card
    1 MacBook w/airport card installed
    1 Modem
I am currently using the new Airport base station to distribute my internet to my MacBook.
    The Question
Can I set-up the iMac with the Graphite base station so that it receives a signal from the new base station, essentially, making my no-airport ready iMac able to be on the wireless network?
Thank you and let me know if you need any additional information.
    Jake

No, the graphite AirPort base station (ABS) has no ability to join a wireless network.
Which iMac 350 MHz do you have?
The Blueberry iMac 350 MHz has an internal slot for the original AirPort card.
The Indigo iMac 350 MHz does not have the slot.
