Macbook says I have no Airport wireless card

It says Airport off. In Network Port Configurations it will not allow me to select Airport. It's basically saying I don't have one. HELP!

  • Airport wireless card not installed

Hi everybody, just wondering if anyone has suffered the same problem as i have...any help would be appreciated.
Basically, late 2007 120GB white macbook, bought new. i also run windows xp on it in bootcamp.
a few months ago the laptop started freezing up completely in both OSX and XP and would need a hard restart, on restart there would be no recognition of airport or wireless internet. when looking at airport in OS X it would say that there is no wireless card installed.
however, after a few restarts and resetting the PRAM, the wireless would cough back into life for a bit before freezing completely again and the same process encountered.
for about a month now though there seems to be no way of getting recognition of a wireless card at all, but the laptop is not freezing anymore.
any one had this problem and managed to resolve it?
ive had a bit of a poke around using google but havent really found out much about it....
just to complicate matters, my OS X disks that came with the macbook cant be recognised by it! (with no scratches or marks on them) but my OSX snow leopard disks that came with my 2010 imac do. ive done the system analysis thing with them and nothing showing.
    cheers for any help.

Take it in for repair.  You may not be able to use the installer discs that came with your iMac to reinstall OS X on the MB because the OEM discs are usually machine dependent.  Also, you cannot install on more than one CPU at a time.  It would violate your software license to install from the same installer DVD on two machines.

  • Airport Wireless Card Issues

On my MacBook Pro 13 inch I notice freezing that in safari or firefox the browsers freeze after five minutes. I'm connected to my wireless router at home with full signal, yet after five minutes of being connected I can not browse the web, the browser freezes. In order for me to reconnect to the web and continue browsing, I have to disable and then re enable the Airport Wireless Card. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you have not installed the internal antenna correctly.

  • Power Mac G3 Pismo with Airport wireless card in Mac OS X 10.4 won't connect to wireless network  with  newest Airport Extreme Base Station set at WPA Personal/WPA 2 Personal encryption.

My Power Book G3 Pismo with an Airport wireless card  running Mac OS X 10.4.11 will not connect to my new Airport
Extreme Base Station using WPA Personal/WPA 2 Person encryption.  The Airport firmware is version 9.52.  From
posts I've read online at different places indicates the Airport card should support the WPA encryption.  Perhaps the problem
is the Base Station is using a combination setting and the fault is in the base station?
    Thanks for any suggestions

Perhaps an inexpensive usb wireless adapter would work as well?
This is probably the simplest way to get the G3 connected to the wireless network.
I'll have to read up on getting an express and using it as a wireless bridge as I am unfamiliar with the concept.
The new AirPort Extreme is broadcasting a wireless signal.
A new AirPort Express could be located close to the G3. The Express will pick up the wireless signal from the AirPort Extreme, then provide an Ethernet connection to the G3 though a short Ethernet cable.
This can work very well......IF.....you keep the G3 at a fixed location, since it will always be connected to the AriPort Express using an Ethernet cable.
I do have an old Linksys Wireless G router.  I wonder if that would work?
In theory, yes. But it would have to use much older WEP "security", which is easily cracked in minutes using free tools available on the Internet. So, anyone who really wanted to get on the network could do so. It's an option, but not a very good one.

  • Airport wireless card to other networks?....

I'm using an Imac G3 and am running mac os 9 and was thinking about buying a airport wireless card to put into my computer so I can finally connect to the internet through this computer.
but ive had a few questions before I buy this airport card.....
this computer is the only apple brand computer running on the mac os and I use a linksys router from my PC sending my internet signal...and was wondering if i was to install an airport card into my imac would i be able to pick up that linkys signal and be able to acess the internet or would i have to go and buy a airport base station to get the internet signal for just my imac to pick up because it cant detect a linkys signal?

rhayden, Welcome to the discussion area!
If you install the original AirPort card in your iMac G3 you will be able to connect to any 802.11b compatible wireless network. You will need to ensure that your Linksys base station is operating in an 802.11b compatible mode.
BTW, you also need the AirPort card adapter to install the AirPort card into your iMac G3.

  • I USE GIFT CARDS FOR PURCHASES(VISA, MC) NOW I CAN'T MAKE A PURCHASE. THEY SAY I HAVE TOO MANY CREDIT CARDS ON FILE

They say I have too many credit cards on file for my username- purchase cancelled.  I use gift cards for gaming purchases (Visa,MC) so I have used a few, but its a gift card.

This is most likely a security precaution since they probably assume that someone using multiple credit cards over a short period of time may well have stolen them. Go here:

and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store and request assistance.

  • Older Airport Wireless Card.

I have an older (2000) G4 with the graphite colored cased that I would like to add to my wireless network. I know my machine takes the older styled original Airport card, not the Airport Extreme card. Where can I get one of the older cards to add to my machine? I'm told I need to be sure it's an 801.1b style but I don't know if it's a PCI card or what. Any help? I'm running a Netgear Wireless Router. I can access the internet with the G4 using the RJ45 connection but I want to get rid of the cords.

You can use either the original AirPort card, a PCI 802.11 card, or a component such as this one. Click here for places you can get the original AirPort card.

  • How can i get my credit card info to save? it says its saved and then as soon as i leave the page it says i have to provide credit card info?

every time i save my credit card info in my account on ITunes, it shows as saved and as soon as I go to buy something, it says I have no credit card on file and starts over again.

I don't mind having my card info on there but now I can't download anything and it's frustrating. All it ask for is the card security number and when I put it in it says it's invalid. So now while I'm trying to delete it, it just won't let me. The visa part stays checked all the time and I can't unmarked it. I tried to just erase the card number and security code and stuff but it says I have to have it filled in. Do you know how I can check to see if it says I owe money?

  • Airport Wireless Card not connecting to ABS

I updated my ABS firmware a few weeks back when many people did and had issues with the update, no wireless connection. I rolled back to the previous ABS firmware version with no luck. I went thru several hard resets and go nothing. So I just went ahead and updated to the current ABS firmware version. I have no problem using the internet over the lan and other computers can connect wirelessly, but the wireless on the G4 Ti won't connect. It shows and error window. I thought the wireless card went dead, but it works just fine on other wireless networks. Any thoughts would be great.
    Powerbook G4 Ti OS X 10.4

ok i'm back again. so now i'm on to the internet but my connection is really weak, 1 bar. i talked to the guy who installed the wireless router and he said that its because the aerial is in the base and has to receive the signal through my desk. but he also said that he didn't know much about Mac's. so i'm not to sure he knows what he's talking about. is there any other reason why i'm getting a weak connection. i tried moving my mac around but that did not help.

  • Airport wireless card

We are new to Mac computers and trying to figures things out. This discussion board helps out more than Apple care.
Do you use Airport to connect to the internet when you away from your house. If you go to the park or anywhere to you click on airport to find an available network? We just trying to figure out how Airport works.
    Thanks,
    Doug & Diane

Airport is exactly the same as "wireless" on a PC.
If you are within range of a wireless base station that you are permitted to access, then it enables you to surf the net.
The most common usage is at home (or in an office) where the broadband internet connection is connected to a wireless router - which then makes wireless networking available to anyone who is in range, and knows the appropriate password.
However, if you are in a park, it is unlikely that anyone will have configured a wireless network for you to access. In such a situation, you probably need "mobile wireless" (wireless networking from a mobile phone provider). This is not built into your Mac, and will require a peripheral device (such as a USB modem) to be plugged into your Mac.
You can get good information by selecting "Help" in the Finder, and typing "Airport" or "wireless" (without the quotes).
    Cheers,
    Rodney

  • 10.4.9 MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo AirPort/wireless issues

Since I installed 10.4.9 my wireless connection has been playing up. The wireless signal varies wildly (even though the AirPort Express is only 2m away and the PowerBook sitting next to my MacBook stays on full signal) and the internet connection appears to freeze/stop working even if the signal strength is full...
I'm now having to plug my machine in to the ethernet connection to get any sort of web connection - VERY annoying as I work from home and the router is in a different room - without my cinema display & stereo
Any ideas..? I originally updated from software update but have since also installed the combo updater. Have repaired permissions (but no permissions needed changing...)

it's hard to believe 10.4.9 is so sensitive to other
who happens to be using the same channel.
are you saying if i am in an area where all the
channels are being used, then i am screwed?
before i updated to 10.4.9, 10.4.6 is very very
stable. then i updated to 10.4.8 which had the same
issues so i backed out to 10.4.6. i can't believe
    10.4.9 has the same issues.
    Sorry for the misunderstanding.
I recognize that 'truespin' said that the Powerbook next to him is working fine and you said that the connection was fine with MOSX 10.4.6....
I double checked with my Intel Mac Mini that came with 10.4.6 and the Mini connects fine to my ancient Airport Basestation 'Snow' alas I installed MOSX 10.4.9 days ago.
('Snow' means 802.11b networking - enough for the local DSL connection).
BUT noticable difference to MOSX 10.4.8:
The Intel Mac Mini gets very picky if the Airport is shut down. If I open the utility Console I see lots of warnings that the basestation cannot be found.
Do you get any similar warnings or hints in Console?
    Cheers,
    Walter

  • My Macbook doesn't find my AirPort wireless network anymore

I have a strange problem with my Macbook and/or AirPort Express. This combination has worked fine until now, but yesterday the Macbook suddenly couldn't find the network anymore. This happened while I was surfing. I haven't installed any programs recently or changed any settings.
When I click on the AirPort-icon it lists all my neighbours networks, but not mine. I have no problems connecting to other networks, I have successfully tried this both at work and some of my neighbours networks.
My old Dell Windows PC however have no problems finding and connecting to my network! I'm using it right now. So it's just the combination Macbook and AirPort Express that's problematic.
    Things I have tried unsuccessfully:
    - Restarting the Macbook, my cable modem and the AirPort Express (numerous times and in different orders)
    - "Join Other Network" and entered the name of the network and password manually. This only results in an "Connection timeout"-error message.
    - Deleted the network name from "Preferred Networks". This made the Macbook actually list my network for a few seconds every time I restart or turn AirPort off and on again. It disappears again very quickly and I can't connect to it.
    - Changing security, I have tried open, WEP and WPA.
    - Factory reset of the AirPort Express and creating a new wireless network with a new name. I had to do this on the Windows PC because the Macbook didn't find it. I was even able to connect to this network with the Macbook for a little while. It wasn't listed in the network list, but I could connect via Join Other Network. Unfortunately it only lasted until the Macbook went to sleep. Since then I haven't been able to connect to the network and I can only see it for a few seconds every time I restart. The Dell Windows PC has no problems with this network.
I have no idea what the problem is or whether the problem is the Macbook or the AirPort Express since they both work fine separately.
Any ideas for things I haven't tried?

I'm having the same problems recently. Bought my white MacBook in Jan. '09, worked great for several months; now it won't stay on the Internet for more than five minutes at a time unless I'm right next to the router. The Airport icon, when selected, shows my network but for some reason it has been deselected. My husband's Dell has no problem at all, even if he's out on the back porch, so it's not a signal issue.
I've updated the software to the latest Airport but that seems to have made it worse. I've tried nearly all the things Solvi did to no avail. Has there been an answer yet from Apple on this?
(Had to re-select network to sent this short post!!)

  • I have a MacBook Pro and have an older SD card reader but it will not read new cards. Is there a new reader that I need to install. I have MAC OS X 10.6.8

Does anyone know why my computer will not read newer SD cards. I have a reader that read early cards fine but not the new ones.

How many GB is your new card?
Older machines have SD card slot, new machines have SDX card slot.

  • Upgrade to 10.4.11 has left my G4 saying I have no airport hardware

Any Ideas on how to resolve this... all the rest of the update seems to be OK the mac just seems to think it no longer has an airport card in it....

So you simply restarted after the Safe Boot?
Safe Boot disables Airport so you need to restart.
If you did, go to the apple menu and choose "about this mac" then "more info."
This is System Profiler and there is an Airport Card tab under the Network area.
    Does it see the card?
If not, try resetting the pram.
