  • New MacBook says "Not Charging" (Purchased 2 days ago)

I have a brand new Macbook pro (purchased on Thursday June 11th). This evening when I plugged in, I noticed that up near the battery icon it says "not charging" -- and sure enough I'm not gaining any charge by being plugged in. Very concerning given that the laptop is brand new...any thoughts on what this is and how to fix it?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
What's the capacity / % reading on the battery, if that's above 95% it may not charge yet ?
If it's below that then Reset the SMC (System Management Controller) and see if it starts charging then.
If this doesn't fix it take it back to the store and have them check everything out.

  • Macbook says not charging, but is plugged in

I just picked up my MacBook from its repait at the Apple store. They replaced the bottom and middle aluminium pieces.
Right when I get home I plugged my computer in and it says that is not charging. The cable is plugged in but it says not charging. I have tried it with another charger and it also says the same thing so I know it is a problem with the computer.
I have tried resetting the PRAM and the SMC and still nothing works. My software is up to date. Is there anything else I can do to try to fix this before I have to take a trip to the Apple Store?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Keep it connected to the main and see what happens.
Resetting SMC was the right thing to do.
If it still remains at "not charging" you will have to take another trip to the Apple store.
    Best.

  • Macbook Pro Early 2011 says (Not Charging)

Hello, my Macbook Pro Early 2011 says (Not Charging) when I unplugged the charger, so I can't see how much battery percentage it has, the battery life runs normally, but I can't see where it goes because of the (Not charging) message. I can only see it when I plug the power adapter, but once I unplugged it, it comes the (Not charging) message again. please help. thank you.

ok, the problem is that it says (Not charging) even though the power adapter is not plugged in. It is charging normally but doesn't show the battery percentage because it shows a (Not charging) message. The only way to know the battery percentage is plugging in the power adapter, but once I unplugged it, the (Not charging) message appears again and don't let me see how much battery it has left.

  • Macbook Air (2012) says "Not Charging" when magsafe2 first plugged in but then starts charging after a few seconds. Is that normal?

    Hi guys,
I just purchased my first Apple notebook, the Macbook Air 13", last week and needless to say its a wonderful machine. However I've noticed that when I plug in the magsafe2 plug to charge the Air, the text next to battery icon says "Not Charging" for a few seconds (ranges from 1 to 3 seconds) before it disappears and the battery starts charging (the thunderbolt sign comes on). Seeing as this is my first Apple notebook I am unsure as to whether or not this behaviour is normal. I've searched the forums but have only been able to find one other case (w/o a solution).
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hey Guys,
Thanks for the info so far but now the time until it starts charging has increased to around 9 - 11 seconds, is this still normal?
    Thanks,
    Dave

  • Macbook pro says not charging but still the battery is charging

macbook pro says not charging but still the battery is charging

This isn't reference in any of the online support material that I've seen. Do you have a link to support this? Just curious is all.
I had a similar issue on my wife's '09 MBP. Initially I thought it was the battery seeing as it's an older machine, but we tried resetting the SMC (after a bunch of other suggestions) and that seems to have done the trick.

  • TS3499 My 2012 Macbook Pro recognizes that it is plugged in but says not charging.

My 2012 Macbook Pro recognizes that it is plugged in but says not charging. The LED light on the L shaped power adapter is not illuminated. I've tried cleaning it, updating my software, everything on this Apple support page: Portables: L-shaped MagSafe power adapter does not charge computer and LED indicator light does not illuminate
Is there anything else I can try before I have to take it into the Apple Store? I live in a rural area and it is about a 3 hour trip to the nearest Apple Store.

I have also reset the SMC with no avail. :/

  • I just put a new battery into my MacBook and it sometimes says Not Charging when it is connected to a power adapter.

Does anyone know what this might mean?  My battery just went down to 7 percent charge even though it had been connected to the power adapter for quite some time.  At least a few days.  I didn't notice that the battery wasn't charging.  Now it says it is charging again, but every once in a while I notice it has gone to not charging.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

Oftentimes the travel chargers connectors and pins just build up dirt and grime. When it says not charging it's able to give enough power to function but not charge. Try wiping it down with a cloth!

  • HT3964 My Macbook air charges intermittently. At times when I connect the power adapter it shows that power is coming in but  says "not charging" and the led light on the power adapter does not light. At other times it charges normally. Any ideas?

    Hey guys,
I am having problems with charging my mac Air.  Sometimes it charges perfectly but then at times much as it shows that it's getting the power from the charger, it says "not charging" and the led light on the charger does not light up. Any help?
    Rgds,
    Kido-Vj

That can happen when you are Taxing the system. No Apple supplied AC adapter supplies enough power to both power the system and charge the battery at the same time when the system is under Heavy Load, when you are Taxing the system heavily. At those times it will draw power from both the AC adapter and the battery at the same time. So if it is drawing power from both it can't charge the battery while it is drawing power from it.

  • Macbook pro not charging: logic board, battery or magsafe?

My macbook pro (13" late 2011) has been charging fine until today. When i plug in the magsafe power adapter (i did clean it and the port) it only lights up dimly and green. The battery also says "Not Charging" and the computer entirely feeds on the power adapter. I've tried SMC and PRAM reset, and changing the duckhead adapter to the ones included when you buy the macbook but neither worked. I did the Apple Hardware Test and it said everything is normal. I tried charging it at 10% but it wasn't charging so i disconnected it and waited for the warning on 3% but it still didn't charge and the battery % isn't going down or up either when plugged. I also had the fan replaced a month ago but only got it back a few days ago.

If you can get another charger to try, your question then can be definitively answered.  I suspect that the charger is faulty based on the absence of charger information on your printout.  All other information looks normal.
An Apple store genius bar appointment would resolve the issue.
    Ciao.

  • My charger doesnt light up and when plugged in it says not charging

Yesterday my daughter got a hold of my charger and now it doesn't work.  When plugged in it says "not charging".  Also the light on the charger does not come on.  Do I need a new battery or a new charger?

Go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info, then select Power from the left hand column of the System Profiler. Copy and paste the Battery Information from the top of the page back here.
You can get a new third party 60W power adapter on eBay for under $20.

  • Skype Causing Battery to say "Not Charging"

I just bought a new Macbook Pro.
15", 8GB of Ram, 720 GB HDD with 7200 rpm, and 2.4 ghz i7 with antiglare screen.
Anyways I find that whenever I use Skype, my Macbook stops charing and at the top it says "not charging".
But as soon as I close Skype, it instantly starts charing and will recharge my battery in about an hour and  a half.
I am running Lion 10.7.2 and have all update installed.
Is anyone else having this issue with their Mac?

Skype is a horrendous processor hog. It forces auto-switching to the power-hungry discrete GPU in any Mac that has one, and consumes such a huge share of the Mac's system resources that if anything else is drawing power at the same time, the machine may need more power than its AC adapter can provide. Battery charging is the first extra process to be discontinued under those conditions, allowing the power that was charging the battery to be used instead to meet the demands of Skype and whatever else is calling for power. This is normal, unfortunately.
If you're going to use Skype when your battery needs charging, first quit all other apps, disconnect all bus-powered peripherals, turn down screen brightness as far as you can stand, turn off wifi and Bluetooth if you aren't using them, and consider installing gfxCardStatus to prevent auto-switching to the discrete GPU.

  • Battery icon just says "not charging" full charge takes 9 hours :(

Regardless if I select time or %, next to the battery icon just says "not charging". It does not read out how much time or % of battery life I have left. Also the battery went to zero and when I plugged it in, it says a full charge would be almost 9 hours....is this normal. The cyce count is 125 and condition is normal......thoughts? thanks

I had a similar problem with my black macbook... I took it to the Genius bar and they determined that it was a faulty charger. The light on my charger would flicker orange/green/orange/green. sometimes no light at all. They replaced it. But since my battery had been recharged over 300 times, they replaced the battery as well. Since then---no problems with charging.

  • Battery icon says (Not Charging)...help?

My battery icon says (not charging) and it won't charge. The battery is dead but the AC adaptor seems to work just fine. As soon as I unplug it results in the computer going off though. Any help?

Hi and welcome to the Apple Discussions.
First, make sure that you have the most updated firmware and battery update for your macbook. You can also try resetting the SMC of your computer. Here are the steps:
