Macbook says "service battery" but battery seems fine.

I've had my macbook pro for 5 years .For the last 2 years it says "service battery," but the battery seems fine to me. With the screen dimmed, airport turned off, and using only MS word, it goes for about 100 minutes. Is there any risk involved with not getting the battery replaced? Also, Will the battery begin to decline exponentially?
Thanks!

    I have Snow leopard on my computer, and I tried to do a hard restart as an article suggested, but it did not work. I also tried cleaning out the PRAM.
    The only things I did last night:
    -cleaned the history of Firefox out, including cookies
    -let it unplugged all night
    -plugged it back in the morning, it took a long time to figure itself out, but eventually the time was correct and I got on the internet for a bit
    -shutdown the computer since I was going out and thought it would help the computer charge
    -came back, tried to turn it on, and found that it would not go past the grey screen the apple on it and the spinning wheel even though I left it for 20 minutes or more
    -tried turning it off and on to no avail

    Before doing a reinstall, which may not be needed at this point,
    Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
    You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Repair reports and if DU was able to repair them. This could just be a start in repairs and you may need a better utility to finish the job.
    Then Repair Permissions.
    No need to report any Permissions errors........we all get them.

  • Is it possible i am using duplicate charger for charging battery but battery life is very short 6 hours what's the problem

    Is it possible i am using duplicate charger for charging battery but battery life is very short 6 hours what's the problem

    First, the battery. The recalled battery replacements have not held up well, and, unfortunately, feedback on the Apple site isn't what I would call complementary about their batteries. When I replaced mine, I got a Newer Technology battery from OWC at http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/BAP17AL60RS/ . Mine has 104 cycles on it and 4113 mAh capacity.
    Now, charging. There are only 4 components in the charging circuit: Power adapter, DC-in card, battery and logic board. It sounds like your power adapter, being newer, is probably fine. Where the power adapter plugs into the computer, is that jack loose? If you put a pen or pencil on it and push it a little, gently, does it wiggle side-to-side? If so, your DC-in card may be bad. Assuming the battery stats are good and the battery is good, it should charge. Sooo, last but not least, is the logic board. Probably the best thing you can do is find a friend with a Powerbook or visit an Apple store or Apple authorized service provider to use another power supply that they know works (just to be sure) and a substitute battery (again, to be sure). If indeed yours are good, and I went through this a few months ago with one of our Powerbooks, you can replace the DC-in card, and if that doesn't work, then the logic board.
    If you want Apple to do that, have them send it to the Apple depot, where they'll do whatever is required to put the Powerbook in close to new condition. Put an old, bad, Apple battery in it, so they'll replace it. Cost runs around $350 if the case isn't banged up, and if it is, the price can go up. When ours went in, they replaced the logic board and put a new battery in. Of course ensure your data is backed up, and if anything is really confidential, move it onto an encrypted disk on your hard drive or back it up and delete it.
    If you have the store replace the logic board, it will run you more than double what they charge to send it to the depot.

  • MacBook says "Service Battery"

    I been having battery issues slightly. My macbook use to got 4-4.5 hours on battery, but now it goes around 3.5 hours. So I'm trying to calibrate it. However when the battery gets to a very low, it says "Service Charge." This never happened to me before. Is this a serious problem?

    If your battery is still performing normally and isn't swollen or otherwise misshapen, you probably have nothing to worry about.
    You can check its health by opening System Profiler (Applications>Utilities), clicking on the Power option in the left-hand column, then looking under the Battery heading for *Full Charge Capacity* and *Cycle Count*.

  • Macbook Pro plugged in, but battery has declined from 90 to 9%

    I am plugged into the wall with the proper charger, but see screenshot below for what has been going down energy wise. I do have a process using multiple cores in the background, but did not know this was actually possible...

    Try a different power adapter?

  • I am trying to make a Birthday card for my sons 2nd birthday, and It keeps saying both about the "default text" and now that it wont fit on the paper. but everything seems fine....HELP???

    please help!

    Are you using iPhoto '11 on a Mac?
    Try to print your Card (using the main menu bar "File > Print" or save the printed version to pdf.
    Then you can check, which text still is default. The default text will be missing from your print - see for example the screenshot below. Also you can check the measurements on your printed copy. In the print menu you can use the arrow buttons to step through the pages of your card.

  • Wont download at all but all seems fine?

    Had Nokia music working fine for 3 weeks after registering my CWM voucher.
    The store loads fine, all my music is there on the PC and the phone,but now if I go to download any thing the song either has a tick next to the track or instantly gets an X and nothing moves to the current download section bottom right of screen.
    I am signed into my account fine, and can bring up any account details?
    Have uninstalled Nokia music and reinstalled, have followed Nokia support and removed the MDataStore.db3 file that seems to sod it up too, worked for about 5 mins after that then nothing again?
    Driving me mad. My IPOD and ITUNES are so much better than this hit and miss affair!! I want this to work as its great value, but, have run out of ideas.HELP!

    The column out of range was the first of my problems, I tried the fix which seemed to work for a short time(1 day!)
     Then it all went wrong again with different errors!! yes its so annoying !!  Itunes rocks compared to this, at least this Nokia voucher thing is not my main source of music, as you just cant rely on it too work!!
    Try this lnk for your column out of range problem and good luck!!!

  • RTMT reports ELM DB service down, but ELM seems to run OK

    Hi
    I have CUCM 9.1.1.20000-5. Publisher and 1 Subscriber
    I'm getting alerts from RTMT that " Service operational status is DOWN. Cisco ELM DB." from the Publisher.
    The ELM does seem to be working ok, Product Instances are registered and synchronizing.
    If I go to the Cisco Unified Serviceability pages and look at Control Centre - Network Services
    the Cisco ELM DB, Cisco ELM Server and Cisco ELM Admin services are all running, but on the Subscriber.
    So I'm a bit confused as to whether I have an ELM problem or not.
    If a Publisher goes off-line for any reason do ELM Services start up on the Subscriber ?
    If I re-boot the Subscriber will the ELM Services move back to the Publisher?
    Thanks
    Andy

    Hi Andy,
    Just to answer last point: if ELM is co-resident with Publisher and Publisher goes down, then , phones would keep on working and u have 60 days grace time period to bring Pub UP.

  • Macbook says not charging, but is plugged in

    I just picked up my MacBook from its repait at the Apple store. They replaced the bottom and middle aluminium pieces.
    Right when I get home I plugged my computer in and it says that is not charging. The cable is plugged in but it says not charging. I have tried it with another charger and it also says the same thing so I know it is a problem with the computer.
    I have tried resetting the PRAM and the SMC and still nothing works. My software is up to date. Is there anything else I can do to try to fix this before I have to take a trip to the Apple Store?
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Keep it connected to the main and see what happens.
    Resetting SMC was the right thing to do.
    If it still remains at "not charging" you will have to take another trip to the Apple store.
    Best.

  • Relaying not allowed but mappings seem fine

    Hi,
    we are running messaging server 5.2 on windows 2000 server. (actually we have 2 servers for 2 different domains, but configured exactly the same)
    I have the following problem: on one of the 2 servers, i can't send mail to external mail servers (error is: 5.7.1 relaying not allowed).
    However, the mappings file seems ok:
    i connect from ip 172.21.3.217, and this is the internal_ip bit of the mappings file:
    INTERNAL_IP
    $(172.16.208.4/32) $Y
    127.0.0.1 $Y
    $(172.21.0.0/16) $Y
    * $N
    the problem arose when i tried to add another subnet. i added it, did a imsimta refresh, and from then on, it wouldn't work anymore.
    since then, i also did a imsimta cnbuild, imsimta restart job_controller, even rebooted the machine. no go.
    when i'm logged on to the server and i telnet to port 25 (localhost), it works ok.
    any suggestions ? this is driving me crazy.
    i can only send mail via outlook express with authentication enabled, but we have some tools that can't handle this authentication stuff, so these apps simply refuse to send mail.
    another thing, this mail server also insists on connecting to the client on port 113 (auth) before granting access, the other mail server doesn't do this. so apparently there are differences between them, but i don't know where to look.
    any ideas please please ?
    Tom.

    Is it possible you have "mustsalsserver" configured on your smtp channel? The default is maysaslserver which allows Athenticated SMTP and normal SMTP. If you have mustsasl... You must use Athenticated SMTP.

  • I can't compile but everything seems fine

    I have NO luck with Xcode. I am using Xcode 4.1 (This also occured in 4.0.2) and I started my project from the normal cocoa app document based template. It compiled fine the first few times but now it won't compile anymore. See the pic below:
    It claims im missing a [ is missing at the start of message send expression. But you can clealy tell that its there. So if I click the error and click fix it I get this error:
    It makes no sense that there is anything wrong with this code since it was prewritten code and I NEVER touched it. I think this may be a bug but I'm most likey wrong.

    No, you changed it. That should read:
    self = [super init];

  • ODBC 12154: TNS: could not resolve service name BUT TNSPING works fine

    We are trying to rebuild an existing server and finally got the tnsnames.ora updated and now the tnsping works fine, but still the ODBC error occurs. Even when I try a data import into Excel to test the ODBC connection. I can ping the server name and the TNSPING works for the alias. Any thoughts?
    # TNSNAMES.ORA Network Configuration File: C:\oracle\ora92\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

    Test the ping::

    Do you have multiple Oracle versions installed? Is ORACLE_HOME set? Does PATH include ORACLE_HOME\bin? Do you have any weird characters in your tnsnames.ora? Did you get this error testing the ODBC connection in the driver manager? Is Oracle really listening on port 1520?

  • Diameter  SCUR rating: "AVP NOT FOUND" error, but everything seems fine.

    Good day to all.
    We are using a Diameter rating server in order to rate SCUR services. We can successfully rate Diameter IEC and Diameter ECUR services.
    We are using Seagull in order to simulate the Mediation chain, since we don't have it. When we run the Diameter executable we got the error:
    <942 M V 9999><UsedServiceUnit M <Avps:<CCServiceSpecificUnits M 1>>>>> can not be mapped due to: AVP_NOT_FOUND: AVP path: 437,417.
    The UsedServiceUnit and the CCServiceSpecificUnits AVP have been defined in Seagull as follow. Do we have to define those AVPs somewhere else? I googled but I can't find the Diameter error lists.
        <define name="Requested-Service-Unit" type="Grouped">
          <setfield name="avp-code" value="437"></setfield>
          <setfield name="flags" value="64"></setfield>
        </define>
        <define name="CC-Service-Specific-Units" type="Unsigned64">
                       <setfield name="avp-code" value="417"></setfield>
                       <setfield name="flags" value="64"></setfield>
        </define>
    Best regards,
    Matteo.

    Ciao Leonardo.
    We were in the end able to make the IEC and ECUR mode working, but the SCUR mode doesn't work. We can't make the reservation.
    Is there any other particular AVP value that we have to set? According to the Diameter specification, the following ones guide the SCUR mode:
       CC-Request-Type (Code: 416) = 1 (INITIAL_REQUEST), 2 (UPDATE_REQUEST) or 3 (TERMINATION_REQUEST)
    ·         CC-Request-Number (Code: 415) = identifier of the request within the session
    Best regards,
    Matteo.

  • I ran through EXTREMELY heavy rain with my Iphone 4 in my pocket. My indicator is partially red but phone seems fine. Now what?

    Am I out of the woods or is the phone going to slowly break down? This has never happened to me before. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Am I out of the woods or is the phone going to slowly break down?
    Probably not. The moisture indicator you see is just one of many. Of course it will turn red if it's exposed to moisture, but if the inside remained dry there is no reason to suspect any problems will develop as a result of this one exposure.
    There are several inside as well, and they're probably dry. If this is ever an issue with obtaining warranty repair, you can request that Apple examine the internal moisture indicators too.
