Macbook Schmackbook: This computer is driving me nuts!
I am seriously doubting the benefits of buying a Mac. This is my story so far:
Bought a Mac online at the beginning of the year. Lasted 1 week before the whole thing packed in, and they had to send me a brand new one. This took a long time to resolve, and I lost ALL of my data already on the computer.
Replacement Mac had endless battery troubles. Eventually took it in, waited for a whole day for them to tell me my original battery wasn't working. Received a new battery which is working much better (albeit a little disappointing).
Everything should have been great now. But it just isn't. My Mac and Finder constantly hang. Programs are always stalling, sometimes not even Force Quitting when they do; other programs just quit suddenly and unexpectedly, losing all of my unsaved work - made worse by the lack of an autosave or file recovery tool built into the standard Apple software. Network transfers are unreliable and are forever hanging Finder, again needing a hard reset. Airport takes forever to connect to my local network, and has to be connected manually through the menu item.
These are just some of the issues that I have experienced over the last six months. [Post Edited by Hosts]
I know this is a bad time for you but don't get all bent out of shape. the same thing that is happening to you happened to me when I got my first iPod.
First the screen died. Got a replacement.
Then the Battery died. Got a replacement.
Then the hard drive died. Got a replacement.
Two weeks and four iPods later is was a happy camper. But seriously, don't give up on Apple they truly ARE the best in the world. Like myself, you might just be one of the unlucky ones. It's one in a million.

Can't access the Music Store. This thing is driving me nuts!!!
Ever since installing iTunes V7.x I had stability problems with iTunes and my Video iPod. I finally gave up and rolled back to iTunes 6.04 and restored the iPod to its former firmware. I thought my problems were behind me until I noticed this morning that none of my Podcasts were being updated, even though it looked like it was going through the motions. Every single podcast had a with the message:
"There was a problem downloading "xxx". The network connection was reset"
I then tried accessing the Music Store and got the message:
"iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. The network connection was reset."
I checked and re-entered my Apple account name and password, but still no go. If I went to the Apple web site directly, then the Apple store, I had no problem logging in. In the early iTune days I had the same "network connection reset" problem, but Apple apparently fixed it. Now here it is again. It is my gut feel that the problem has something to do with the fact that I depend on a satellite internet feed (Hughesnet). I'm guessing that there is some security feature either in iTunes, the Music Store, or both that is getting confused by the long turn-around time (latency) resulting from using satellite, but no way to prove it (unfortunately, due to poor health, I can't get out to try other internet connections).
Bottom line is I am stuck with an iPod I can't use because I can't access the Music Store. Any ideas?Believe it or not I got mine working finally though I'm not sure which of the following steps, if any, did the trick. I posted this problem in the DSLReports forum. Apparently several people had problems though none mentioned iTunes specifically. The 'fix' was to go into the advanced menu and change the proxy port to something other than Port: 87. The idea was that this effectively turns off the proxy server or I should say forces your receiver to not use the proxy server. Well I tried this and didn't see any difference. Rather than screw anything else up I decided to reset the DW7000 thus restoring the original settings. For some reason it all of sudden could finally access the Music Store, update podcasts, etc.; i.e. it started working.
From what I've read, each time you reset the receiver it goes out an decides on the proxy server to use (not necessarily the same one each time). I'm guessing the proxy server it picked up after the reset was more iTunes friendly. Of course it's possible that it has nothing to do with the proxy server and the reset fixed whatever was wrong. Bottom line, reset your receiver and see if the access problem goes away. If not, try again. It only takes a few seconds so really you have nothing to loose. Kind of obvious when you think about it. What's the first thing you do when your computer is having a problem? Yep, reset.

This rummy game is driving me nuts, Please Help me!!!!
In my project, I am suppose to create an agent that plays a simple version of rummy. To win this game, the agent is dealt seven cards initially, and in order to win, it has to create two sets of combination of cards (one of 3 cards the other of 4), each combination can either have cards of the same rank (eg. 10 Hearts, 10 Clubs, 10 Spades) or the same sequence, but the same suit (2s,3s,4s,5s OR 7c,8c,9c). The cards are saved in an array of seven elements.
Beside the main SDK, we have our own api for this game, that for example lets you check whether two cards are in the same rank (eg. (10H.sameRank(10D) returns true), or whether they have the same suit or not.
I have no trouble creating a hand of cards with the same rank, but my problem is with creating a hand of cards with the same sequence.
I have tried to come up with an algorithm that would allow me to create a hand of cards (of same suit) in the sequence, but without success. This thing is driving me nuts.

Syncing smart playlists with location set to "on this computer"
I have a ton of playlists with multiple creitera that after the upgrade to iOS7 just stopped working entirely. It turns out that when I added "location - on this computer" as a filter to avoid seeing everything in my icloud, that no longer applied to media synced to iOS devices.
I guess that makes sense, except the precedent was set when it worked in iOS6, and more importantly there isn't a filter setting for "on this computer and/or synced devices". There's just "on this computer" and "in the cloud".
I can't be the only one annoyed with this. Can anyone think of a filter that would work for me?Bump? This is still driving me nuts.

Initially when this loads there is a single vertical scroll
bar and everything looks nice. However, the two VBoxes associated
with DefineResourceType can grow in height as the user interacts
with them. Once they exceed a certain size then two vertical scroll
bars are displayed. One is associated with the DefineResourceType
component and the other is associated with the outermost VBox.
Anybody have any idea how to get only 1 vertical scrollbar, this
has been driving me nuts for a couple days now.Yeah, they kick my butt too. What I usually do is turn them
off for all containers, then add thenm back to the ones I want.
I sometimes think they should be off by default.

This is driving me nuts -- Custom easing
Well, I was using flash on someone else's machine, and I
created a custom motion tween ease between two keyframes, and when
I added a new keyframe halfway in between the keyframes it
automatically adjusted the easing on both tweens so that the motion
of the object remained the same.
My home computer does NOT do this automatic adjustment for
me, and it's driving me nuts. I can't figure out how to enable it.
If anyone out there knows what this option is called or how
to turn it on, I would really appreciate it.

Assuming that I've understood you correctly:
AFAIK, that's quite correct; you can't add a live source to a mixdown. You can determine what you hear by altering the overall monitoring settings (Audition mix, external), but I'm pretty sure that you can't add a 'live' anything to an actual mixdown
process, simply because this is based on file manipulation. So, you have to record it first. And anyway, even if you could do what you want, the timing would be all over the place. -
Hi, i have a macbook pro version 10.6.8 with boot camp version 3.0.4. I managed to install windows 7 professional x64 bits but however when i tried to install the drivers using the OSX MAC CD using boot camp, it prompt me boot camp x 64 is unsupported with this computer model. Then i tried the method by right click the bootcamp x64 and managed to install the drivers. However, i still couldnt manage access the internet and it prompts me no networking hardware detected...Any idea how can i solve it?
P.S i tried updating my bootcamp version 3.0.4 in mac os with bootcamp x64 version 3.1 exe but it shows me weird wording..
my bootcamp version in windows 7 is 2.1..Uninstall 2.x totally

HI there can you tell me why none of my music will play on itunes it just displays a message saying it cannot be located please help it is driving me nuts
JanAbout 5 days ago for no apparent reason at all, about
7000 songs which i have collected over a number of
years has just decided that it wont play in ITUNES or
in any other of my media players. When you click on
Play over a song nothing happens. The play icon
doesnt even come up on the screen.
Steps I have taken so far are:
1 - Remove all tracks from ITUNES and then re-add the
folder where all the songs are. This has obviously
removed all songs, but when I have re-added the
folder , it has added about 650 tracks back on to the
playlist. These 650 tracks will play. This leaves
approx 6400 tracks that it wont play.
By the way all the songs on my PC are MP3 type and I
have had no problem playing any of them until last
week.
2 - I have re-installed ITUNES and reinstalled
Quicktime and that has not worked.
3 - All of my songs are backed up on to a External
Hard Drive. I have tried to restore the songs and
also play them directly from the external hard drive.
I get the same problem when I do this.
4 - I have enabled and allowed all permissions for
the account that I am running the PC from.
I am guessing there must be some settnig or Registry
Key that is blocking me playing the tracks from the
PC. I have also tried to launch the songs in Media
Player and Sonic stage but thsi has not played
either.
All the tracks are in the folder structure as they
were before so I know they are there. I just need to
somehow unlock them.......
If anyone has any ideas, I would be very grateful as
I dont want to lose my entire music collection.
Also I cannot find anyweher on here that is a Support
number or email address for Apple as this is an
ITUNES issue and they should be resolving it for
me!!!!

I bought a new macbook pro and now every time i try to buy anything with my apple id it doesn't go through. I tried Ibooks and iTunes but neither one will work. I have registered this computer and even tried unregistering all the other computers but that did not do anything. I also checked my form of payment and that is not the problem either because i have no problems what so ever buying anything on my iPhone or my desktop computer.
It is just this computer.
I try to buy something and something pops up and says... "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (-45054). There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later."
And i have been trying later for 2days now.Have you tried repairing disk permissions : iTunes download error -45054

How do I install Snow Leopard on my Macbook 2.1 ghz, with 10.5.8 Leopard installed?
I have the install disk for Snow Leopard 10.6.2, but when using it for installation, it
states that "Snow Leopard cannot be installed on this computer"!
I understand some features of iOS5 cannot be used unless my iMac and Macbook have
10.7 Lion installed. Correct?It sounds like your Snow Leopard install disk is the disk that came with another model of Mac (grey lable with no pictures). If so, that's not legal and won't work. You need a retail (white label with the picture of a snow leopard) copy of the installer for each system that didn't come with Snow Leopard.

The new tab behavior is driving me nuts. It keeps re-centering on tabs nearest the start of the list when I move a tab. How do I change this?
I don't want to download an app. I would rather add a new string in about config or just change of the ones in there to false. It's making my work life rather difficult, to be forced to go all the way back to the end of my list after moving one tab just to have to do it again. I mean it's to the point where I might consider changing browsers if they had tab scroll bars.
Edit: At this point I will download any app. Please make this stupid feature stop.The result of setting up that code will do exactly as you described: the tabs will be crowded together. I had not noticed any change in behaviour of Firefox with tabs because all the tabs are crowded together, so they cannot scroll, and I very seldom move tabs.

Then update it to new email address. Creating a new AppleID is usually not a good thing as anything on your old account will not be transferred to your new account.

Restoring it will not delete it.
You need to turn it off (Settings > iCloud - Delete account then re-enable it with updated AppleID.

When syncing iPod touch to MacBook, I have selected to sync only events newer than 360 days. Yet I get message that sync will change 8000 events on "this computer" most of which are years old and many are recurring events. I'm afraid to proceed with sync.
Having the same problem here. As a first time mac user, Apple has certainly made a bad first impression.
For me, the issue seems to occur when transferring files between computers that are connected to the same access point (when transferring files from wired computers on the network there is no issue). My vista laptop and every laptop I have tried has worked perfectly fine with this access point so I am 100% convinced it is the mac. Basically when I copy the files, after about 100mb, I am unable to access anything on the local network or internet until I restart Airport. The weird thing is that even though I am unable to access anything, the airport utility says it is connected. I might also note that the wireless signal strength is full.
If I can't get this figured out in a few days, this computer is going back to the store where it came from and I will officially label myself anti-mac. This type of issue is just unacceptable for something so main stream.

i have a ms access db that i'd like to read from using jdbc. It is on a network file server. Can i read from it from a jsp on a separate weblogic box without having a dsn to the DB? ie using some kind of a file path in the connection address instead

Hi all, We are in ECC 6.0. We have P/Ctr field mandatory in Doc Splitting Characteristic setting. Now the setting is changed and P/Ctr field is unticked so that the same field is optional. After saving such setting sytem is throwing an error: "Co Cod
