Macbook - Screen "washout" after current update (July 6, 2011)

Hello,
I have a Macbook (Model Identifier:  MB062xx/A).
I checked for and applied the most current software updates on Wednesday, July 6, 2011.  Now my screen is "washed-out" and periodically returned to normal, going through a series of horizontal lines.
I have read posts saying this does occur "from timt-to-time" and to "fix it", simply close the laptop or click on the "Color" button in the Displays configuration application.
A fresh installation of Mac OS X Snow Leopard has not resolved this problem.  Resetting the NVRAM (Intel-based Macbook) has not resolved this problem.
I am going to try the TechTools diagnositics.
Does anyone have any suggestions on why this has occurred?
Thank you,
Michael.

Same problem here too, since yesterday's update of some things through automatic update ..MBP  2.4Ghz Intel Core duo, 4 GB, 10.6.8,
It looks like a bad VGA cable connection on old PC from last century..
Any clue what it can be? How to check exactly what I downloaded yesterday?
Thank you

After current update Iphone 4s has no video or music sound, message tones and ring tones work, wifi playing up and Touch screen does not lock when I lift to my face so it mutes call or ends call. apple can you please supply fix?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Dual screen problems after last updates

    Hello everyone,
it was long time since our Arch gave me some problems, but then now I'm fighting furiously with dual screen configuration with new gnome. Let me explain.
I upgraded the home PC that I hadn't update for months, so I updated more or less everything ... kernel, nvidia drivers, gnome, etc..
The PC has always been dual screen (no twin view, without xinerama), two screens (one on a LCD monitor and one on a TV) where I could run separate applications independent.
Now, after the update, when I launch any application in the second screen (the TV) it starts on the first (screen).
Obviously I have't made any changes to xorg.conf before and after the upgrade. I also tried to recreate one with the nvidia-tools but nothing ...
Can you help me? Someone had the same problem?
I post my xorg.conf, I hope that someone has a hint. I can no longer watching movies on TV and it is very annoying!

Writing the post a tried to install fluxbox, and then... all ok. In fluxbox all works fine. I think this is a problem related to the new gnome screen configurer.
I post an image of gnome screen configurer vs nvidia-tools.
Googling around I found that new gnome screen configuration (using xrandr) is not compatible with nvidia drivers. Could be this the source of the problem?
    Help please

    Hi,
Does your Mac go to the sleep status when you close the cover? If so, the remote session can be terminated due to time out and the time out value may be redesigned in the latest versions.
    Thanks.

  • My Macbook slowed down after recent update

I got home from a trip Sunday and turned my Macbook on and it started updating. Now it is as slow as poo.
I am very unhappy with this stinker. Please help me like it again.

My MacBook is downloading very slowly (<1.6 Mbps). An older G5 iMac sitting on the same desk, on the same WiFi network is downloading up to 19 Mbps using the built-in AirPort card. When the MacBook is connected by ethernet cable to the router and AirPort is turned off, download speeds are up to 30 Mbps.
I tried to download the August 12, 2009 AirPort Client Update for MacBook and MacBook Pro, hoping that it would work even though my MacBook build was not listed -- the pkg wouldn't install after checking my hardware configuration.

  • After current update the rotate lock locks in landscape mode..

Ive tried restarted my phone and such and doesnt seem to help. After the current update 10.3.1.1581. When i turn my rotation lock on it rotates my view in the hub or anything to landscape and locks it there instead of portrait. Quite annoying.

Turn rotation lock off, while not ideal I found that at least when the phone is held in portrait orientation the apps display in portrait, there is a knowledge base article about this, sorry I don't have the link to hand. But they are aware of the issue but no fix as yet.

  • 2GHz Macbook - no issues after SMC Update!

I purchased my Macbook on Friday and immediatley updated the firmware, as well as all other updates. I installed bootcamp and successfully installed Windows XP. I have used it non-stop all weekend without issue. All morning I have been ripping DVD's with Handbrake and Temperature Monitor reports CPU at 35 degrees and holding steady. I have read many posts here in the discussion boards concerning several issues related to the SMC update and rebooting issues. I have had no such issue. I did notice that my SMC firmware was already at version 1.4f8 out of the box. I wonder if the booting and heat issues are related to earlier versions of the logic board.
I do have several observations related to my new Macbook after considerable use for 3 days:
    1. I do hear the CPU fan kick in when I am ripping DVD's. It is not, however, so loud as to annoy me. On any other occassion doing regular stuff I do not hear the fan at all.
    2. The heat coming off the bottom left back corner is VERY hot. I am not able to lay the notebook on my lap with any degree of comfort at all. I see now why Apple says that it is a notebook as opposed to a laptop
    3. My new Macbook rips DVD's just as fast as my dual core AMD Windows mcachine using Handbrake. I built my own Windows machine with a dual core AMD 4200 with 2 Western Digital Raptor HDD in RAID 0 and cannot rip DVD's faster than my Macbook! - This surprised me to no end.
I am very happy with my purchase. I thought that I would kick myself for paying the premium price for the black finish, however, now that I have it home I can honestly say that it is worth the extra $150. It is such a beautiful piece of technology. I do plan on adding 2gig of RAM from New Egg and probably will install a 7200rpm HDD at some point.
Thanks to all the people in the Apple community who help Windows people like myself make the transition!

Excellent news about your experience. Especially from someone who (apparantly) switched from WIN. I found the MacBook to be a tad bit slower than I thought it would be. However, still am very pleased except for the fact there is no PC Card slot.
Just so you know, the Firmware update is designed to upgrade from version 1.4f8 to 1.4f10 according to Apple: "After this update has completed successfully, your SMC Version will be: 1.4f10." Check out the site. Although, maybe you don't need to update. I did and found an improvement. My Macbook is week 24

  • Graphics stuck after OSX update Mac mini 2011

I've just done the 10.9.2 update to my Mac mini (mid-2011) and now the graphics are streched.
The screen resolution is currently stuck to 1280x1024 rather than the 1920x1080 I had before the update. Anyone got any ideas?

The common issue here is 10.9.2 and HDMI connected monitors, it seems.
Safe boot, PRAM reset, SMC reset, none got me to the login screen.
Command-s gets me a useless root shell, so its just loginwindow thats broken.
On my mini, I was able to regain some functionality by disconnecting the HDMI video and using Screen Sharing to get in.
Howwever, I don't have HDMI working yet to my Apple 17" LCD through a ADC to DVI through a DVI to HDMI adapter. Havent tried much else yet. This setup had worked fine since 2011!

  • I have a 'panic Kernel' error screen appear after my MacBook Pro restarted after installing updates

    Hi,
I have just finished installing new updates, and in order to complete, I had to restart my laptop, as I did so, an error screen came up with all types of jargon on it, mainly, 'panic' and 'kernel', I can not do anything with my mac now, any ideas on how to resolve?

If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot.
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.
Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is on a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select the most recent panic log under the heading System Diagnostic Reports on the left. If you don't see that heading, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Post the entire contents of the panic report — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.

  • Intel screen tearing after Xorg update

  • Flickering Screen issue after Mavericks update released on Feb 26, 2014

I own a Macbook Retina display bought in early 2014. After installing the recent Maverick update released around Feb 26, 2014 the display developed flickering problem while scrolling and now the scrolling is not smooth any more. The originally shipped machine did not have this problem. I tested other software including Photoshop and the display still flickers while panning the canvas. I also tried resetting the SMC - System Management Controller but it didn't work along with other attempts of resetting the disk permissions, running a systems cleaner, changing the wifi-router etc.
How to fix this flickering screen issue?

The problem came back lately and I tried this solution and it worked. Go to system settings > power saver > and switch off the Automatic Graphic switching. Not sure if this is a good solution, but it seem to have worked for the time being.

  • VZ Navigator Screen Dim after ICS update

Since the update to Android 4.0.4, the VZ Navigator application my Droid Razr Maxx is almost unusable during the day.  Entering the application immediately dims the display so low that it is almost unreadable.   Exiting the application immediately returns the screen back to normal.
I have disabled 'night' mode on VZ Navigator, uninstalled and reinstalled the VZ Navigator application (currently at 8.0).
Has anyone else seen this behavior?

I have the same problem after I accidentally installed ICS this afternoon. Also affected Navigator unless kept touching the screen at timeout.  Called tech support--no help.  Read threads then TRIED THIS TEMPORARY SOLUTION:1
    1. Go to Preferences->Display->NIGHT MODE->ON.
    2. Set Night Mode Brightness to 100 (slide right).
May have to take phone display off automatic and manually set brightness.
I also set screen timeout to 10 minutes for Navigator (Google) to prevent dimming until solve that one too
A few other points.  VZNavigator, which was working perfectly on my Droid Razr Maxx prior to ICS, provides your speed and posted speed limits on screen.  Has a better display in some ways (3D is pretty real) and has found better routes at times. My wife has a Droid Razr and now also agrees VZN has some advantages.  Neither is perfect, glad to have both so when one is not working or gives bad route can switch to the other.  And it's $5/ month and worth it.
When she upgraded to ICS, it caused battery drain almost visibly dropping.  Full charge gone in less than an hour.
I also found some apps are SLOWER in loading on my Maxx and ICS changed my settings on email and other apps.  I personally do not like the newer visuals/graphics--harder to see, some controls easier in previous version, widgets had to be reloaded after power down trying to solve dark screen problem.
Lots of things they could have fixed instead of an "a la Microsoft" let's give 'em lots of "new" features and looks (even if they don't like it).  After all, we're Microsoft (substitute Verizon)--we're big, we don't have to care.
I loved the tech response (translated) "we'll get to it".

  • HT4718 I have a new MACBOOK PRO and after running updates IPhoto does not work

After installing Iphoto 9.4.1 from the MACSTORE updates Iphot will not run.  I downloaded (.4.1 again and tried to install but it says that the update must be done from the Mac store.  But I do not show any updates when checking the mac store and do not know how to proceed.  I just purchased the computer and set it up on Saturday.  I transferred files from an older Macbook pro.

  • Cannot adjust screen brightness after BIOS update

I was able to adjust my laptop screen brightness but after the BIOS update:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=132077
    I'm not any-more able to adjust it by hitting F2 / F3
Any good suggestion on what to use to manage volume, /brightness etc? or why now isn't working anymore?
    Thanks.

    HI,
thanks for the heads up, however I think the problem could be related also to my keyboard layout.
    Current
    cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf | grep -i model
           Option                 "XkbModel" "hpdv5"
Actually my HP is dv6 and I see now that the keyboard is totally different:
    DV5 http://images.google.com/imgres?q=hp+dv … 29,r:0,s:0
    DV6 http://images.google.com/imgres?q=hp+dv … 29,r:1,s:0
    What Xkbmodel should I use?
    Currently available:
    $ cat /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base.lst | grep -i hp

  • Compleat system slow down after current updates

Has anyone learned why we all seem to have a compleat system slow down after the current set of updates? Everything works, but is VERY slow to respond. Even iTunes 7.1.1 plays video choppy now. Audio track plays fine however. Odd.
    -Apple //GS

First of all, try repairing your permissions with Applications> Utilities> Disk Utility. Select the hard drive you're running off of and then click the Repair Permissions button.
If that doesn't work I'd do an archive and install:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Then run the combo update(s) instead of the consecutive ones. That seems to be working for a lot of people, but it will probably take a while.

  • Black screen mirroring after ATV update

hi, I need help, I just bought my ATV, and it mirrored my IPad just fine, then it asked me to update the ATV software, now it just give me sound but no mirror??? Only a black screen. Help please!

I have the same problem. After restarting the iPad, mirroring will work for 2 or 3 times and then after that I get a black screen on the TV.
It is not a router issue because my iPhone and MCP all work fine sending to ATV repeatedly. It's just the iPad that is having this issue, the one place I really need the capability.
I've tried everything suggested on other threads with this topic. The only thing that works is rebooting the iPad, but the problem crops up after 2-3 uses. I really need to be able to turn mirroring on/off repeatedly like I can on other devices.
