Macbook shuts down when using YM and webcam

Hello everyone! I am a new to this forum and a new mac user as well.
Whenever I use Yahoo Messenger and the built-in webcam my Macbook shuts down after few minutes of use.
Anyone experience this problem?

    7. If you are using more than one video adapter, remove the additional cards.
Multiple video adapters can cause problems when OpenGL and Photoshop use the GPU. It's best to connect two (or more) monitors into one video adapter. If you have to use more than one video adapter, make sure that they are the same make and model. Also make sure that they both support the same versions of OpenGL and Shader Model. Otherwise, crashes and other problems can occur in Photoshop.
Note: Using two video adapters does not enhance Photoshop's performance.

Yeah, I hope it is just a firmware-problem. AND that Nokia will release an update soon. The version on my phone now is 021.013, and it is from July. A firmware update is long overdue now, especially after all the other problems reported with this phone. And btw I have turned the phone on and off several times without this helping to fix the radio-issue...
I guess I will have to return the phone soon, if Nokia is unable to release a fixed firmware.

  • Why does my macbook shut down when the lid is closed?

    Hi,
    I have a Macbook Pro (mid-2012) running 10.9.1
Last week out of the blue, the Macbook started shutting down whenever I close the lid.
When I open the lid, the logon screen appears (as if it's been asleep as normal) but almost immediately reboots itself.
Has anyone else got the same issue? Any idea how to resolve?
    Thanks

If after you open the lid you do get the login screen, almost immediately, but then it restarts your system is not shutting down when you close the lid. It is going into a sleep state but then crashes when trying to come out of that sleep state. There are quite a few posts on this problem and it seems to be caused by the system going into the Deep Sleep state also known as the hibernate mode. That is where the contents of the RAM is written to the hard drive and the system suspends supplying power to the RAM chips so the system uses even less power then in regular sleep mode.
That is only supposed to happen after the system has been in the regular sleep mode for an extended period of time.
To check the state of the huiberbnate mode open terminal and type in, or copy and paste, this command.
    pmset -g | grep hibernatemode
To check the state of all power management settings use the command.
    pmset -g

  • MacBook shuts down when sleep, asks to shut down, screensaver changes

Hello. My MacBook is having all sorts of problems and they just started occuring recently.
    1. It shuts down when it's 'sleeping'. When I open it, I have to press the button to turn it back on. Sometimes it wouldn't reboot and the log in page would pop up, but rarely.
    2. While I'm using my macbook, a window would ask me if I want to 'shut down, restart, sleep, cancel'. Or something like that. It would do this every few minutes.
    3. I noticed that my screensaver would go back to Flurry/default.
Could this be a battery issue? I noticed that it says 'replace soon'. I will definitely go to a genius bar, but I'm too busy right now with school I don't know when I can make a trip to the nearest Apple store.

  • Macbook shuts down when plugged

I have my macbook for 2 years, and last month it started to behave in a weird way.
First when I let the battery drain out it shuts down when the battery reaches around 2-3%, it doesn't go into deep sleep. I've checked the battery capacity and it's around 2852mAh, and the check battery sign just started to pop. I'll probably have to buy a new battery. (That doesn't bother me much, because I use it mainly plugged on power.)
But last week it has gotten worse, now my macbook started to shut down when it's plugged. It takes a minute so I can reboot it (not even the battery indicator works for a while), and the charger stops working right after it's off. I'm using a new 85w charger (the old one got ripped off), because they don't sell the 65w here in Brazil. Needless to say I've tried do reset the SMC, PRAM, NVRAM.
Ps: On january I upgraded my RAM with some used module I got from buddy of mine.
Pps: You should know that there's no apple store in Brazil. Don't tell me to ask the genius :P

I took my macbook to a apple technical support provider, and they're replacing my charger. I wonder if the faulty charger could have damaged my battery, the check battery sign first appeared after the shutdowns caused by the charger.

  • Macbook shuts down when booting

Dear friends I have lot's of problems with my Macbook late 2009 when trying to boot.
Few days ago I tried to verify my disc in Disc Utility and I had this message log:
    Invalid node structure
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
As soon as I did this my Macbook freezed and I couldn't do anything except trying to rebooting it.
From that moment when I try to reboot I have this kind of problem here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3148?viewlocale=en_US
but when it tries to load my Macbook shuts down by it self.
I tried to repair the disk booting from the MacOS disk and then used utility disc to repair it but an error message appeared saying that it was impossibile.
I don't know what to do, I need to get my files back because I don't have back ups. What can I do?
    Please help me.

    not much.
if disk utility can not repair the disk, one option is to completely erase and install. but your hard drive may be physically damaged in which case you've to get a new one. thinking of a backup after the worst case scenario happened is regretfully a bit late.
i can think of various ways for trying to retrieve your data from the disk, but for that you'll need another hdd drive and an external usb casing.
first way is to clone a bootable system from another mac to an external usb drive, start up your book from that external drive and then try to access it's internal drive via finder or third party data retrieval software. then reformating the internal disk and doing a fresh install, hoping that the damage was not physical.
second way is to install a new HDD in the book, install os x and then putting the old one into an external usb casing, so that you can later try to access it from the fresh installed book.

  • IMac shuts down when using Safari 2.0.4

My iMac shuts down when I visit certain websites such as Pogo or video sites. Took it to the Apple store and of course the problem wouldn't replicate there. They kept it to check out the scripts and logs to see if they could find a problem - without success; although they did suggest my house is haunted. Brought it home and it quit again.
We thought perhaps we were getting interference from other wireless devices and unplugged our cordless phone which worked for a day. The computer always turns back on so its more of an annoyance than a real problem, but I'm baffled.
It also happened once when I was downloading from the iTunes store, but is most prevalent with Safari.
We have wireless internet connected via ethernet to an Airport Express.
    Any ideas? Thanks.
    iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    Hi Barry -
Yes I do live near a ghost town (kinda) - Virginia City, NV. And I did tell any unwanted visitors to leave.
Actually, in the last year, they have replaced the Super drive, power supply, inverter and logic board. The only reason I'm not thinking power issues is that it only happens when I'm in Safari or iTunes. I would use Firefox except I've got java issues with that. I can (and do) use the machine for other things all day long without problems. I can use Safari all day long as long as I'm not playing on Pogo or certain video sites. Maybe Pogo is haunted?
It also doesn't happen on my husband's iMac on the other side of the house. Is there something that could cause enough interference to actually make the machine shut down? Oh, the antennae for the satellite TV and internet are on the roof directly above me, if that would have anything to do with it.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Photoshop CC shuts down when using Contact Sheet?

  • Computer shuts down when using Aperture

Hi, does anyone knows what cause Mac to shut down? It first happened when I was using 1.5, stopped behaving this way for a while but now its back shutting my Mac down again. Tonight, it shut down when I was making batch adjustments to several images. When I turned my Mac back on and went back to the same Aperture project, it shut down again. I did this a few times but always the same result.
What is causing Aperture to shut down my computer? Could it be due to lack of memory or something more sinister?? Please help folks.
    Mike

RAM anomalies immediately came to my mind too.
Note that 3 GB is a very limiting amount of RAM for a Mac Pro anyway. RAM is inexpensive now. I suggest that you add 4x2GB matched RAM; one good source is OWC: http://otherworldcomputing.com/. The new RAM should be installed on the top riser, old unmatched RAM removed or installed on the bottom riser.
Make sure that Aperture and the OS are fully version-current. Immediately prior to and immediately after every installation of any kind (essentially anything that asks for sysadmin password) I recommend repairing Permissions. Note that repairing Permissions at other times does not have the same effect as immediately prior to and immediately after installations; i.e. repairing Permissions is not some kind of magic fix to use after problems present.
On the Photoshop forums for years there have been many instances of some folks getting poor or unstable performance out of setups that other folks get good performance out of. We see the same thing here on the Aperture forums. The suggested protocol of repairing Permissions is one of the routines that many of us with long term good Adobe performance have tended to follow.
There are many tens of thousands of files with Permissions settings. IMO maintaining them in a consistent state immediately before and after each installation of any kind is a potentially useful protocol with no down side risk.
    Good Luck!

  • MacBook shuts down when streaming video

I use safari, so my assumption is the problem lies there. I did a software update in January along with upgrading to snow leopard but this problem has been happening since before then.
Its only a few years old and the only thig that's wrong with it is the battery is dead and needs replaced but I have my charger plugged in 24/7. would that have anything to do with streaming video?
Has this ever happened to anyone?

I've found that the computer only shuts down when streaming netflix.
I can play videos on youtube or vimeo long periods of time without the computer crashing.
When streaming netflix, the computer turns off within 5 minutes or less usually.
I have the newest version of silverlight installed and older versions deleted from my hd.
Does this information point to another or more specific problem?
Have others experienced a similar issue with regard to netflix or silverlight?

  • MacBook shuts down when not connected to power supply

Hey everyone, I'm making this topic for an issue that has gotten me edgy lately.
My MacBook (not new) has a habit on shutting down on me instantly for some reason when the MacBook is not plugged into charge. Here is the strange thing though, if I unplug the charger plug and set it still on my desk, I have more of a chance of the laptop not failing on me, but when I carry the MacBook around, it has a 90% (guestimate) chance of shutting down on me.
Even after having the laptop plugged in for 12 hours, the laptop just goes into suspend mode.
I have to wait a couple of seconds before I can turn it back on (by pressing the power button, not any key).
Also, when I shut down more programs at certain times when not plugged in, and having the screen brightness low, the Mac does not shut down so fast.
    Any advice?!
    Thanks

Could be you battery. Mine shuts down when showing 40% charge left and I have to plug it into the power supply to fix it. I found out it was the battery by downloading coconut battery. It's an application that allows you to check the status of your battery (Link at bottom). I suggest you get that and when your macbook shuts down again, plug it into the mains, start it up and run coconut battery. If it shows your nearly out of battery power then that's your problem.
I was showing 40% left when it shut down. Did the above and I had no power left. It happens when the battery is old about 250-400 loadcycles
    Hope this helps.

  • Macbook shuts down when low battery instead of going to sleep

    Hi
Well basically my laptop shuts itself down instead of going to sleep when my battery gets low. I also do not get the low battery message. My macbook will usually shut down when it gets to approximately 6% of battery life. What should I do?
    Thanks
    Sarah.

Have you done the battery update? You might also try to reset the SMC and/or PRAM.
If it doesn't work you may need a new battery. The original core duo batteries have had an extra year added to their warranty so even if your computer is not covered the battery is. My MacBook was doing the same thing except at 28%. Apple replaced my battery and it works fine now.
If you call Apple be polite but firm some people have had trouble from some of the reps. Mine went smoothly I had a new battery in 3 days.
