Macbook shuts down while starting up?

Hi guys,
I have a Macbook for school and well, while starting up, I get to the grey screen with the grey apple with the rotating thing. After maybe 5 or 10 seconds of this, it will just completely shut off. Some background info, as it wasn't doing this earlier.
My iSight camera would just stay turned on so I asked my computer teacher and he told me to hold down Option-Cmd-R-P-Power while it was starting up and to do it 3 times. He told me this cleared the PRAM. Well, I did what he said and then started it back up, but then shut it down while it was starting up by holding down the power button for like 4 seconds. After that, I haven't been able to start up my Macbook.
Am I screwed? =[

Update 2:
I followed this guide (link at end of message) and have gotten a little progress.
I now have the infinite boot thing, where it just sits there twirling.

EDIT 2!!!
Oh....my....GAWD!!!!
The boot sequence ended and it works!!!1

  • Premiere Elements 11 shut down while starting; without error message

    hello everybody,
pe11 worked well at my Laptop.
Since a week it always shut down while starting it.
    No error message!
I already reinstalled it, tried to start with admin rights, but it doesn't work.
    Thanks for your answers!

Before a week ago, how long had you been working with Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 7 64 bit without problems?
Does the problem exist with and without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
Is your video card/graphics card up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on that computer with Premiere Elements 11?
Any new programs, 3rd party plug-ins and codecs, installed?
Where are the Scratch Disks directed and how much free space is at those designated locations? Any pile ups
of preview files in the Adobe Premiere Elements Preview Files Folder or conformed audio files in the Media Cache
    Files Folder.
Let us get the classic deletion of the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file out of the way.
    Local Disk C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    11.0
and in the 11.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 11.0 Folder
in which it exists. Be sure to be working with Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path cited.
Depending on how things are going, you might also include right clicking the desktop icon for the program, selecting and applying Run As
    Administrator.
Let us work through the above and then, based on your results, we can decide what next if necessary.
    Thank you.

  • Shuts down while starting up

MacBook Pro shuts down before completely starting up

    Try a SMC reset.
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
If that fails to solve the problem see if you can boot to either the Recovery HD or to the Online Internet Recovery system. At startup hold down the Command + r keys for the built in Recovery HD and Command + Option/Alt + r keys and hold them down until you see a globe on the screen for the internet based system. The Internet based system only works on newer Mac computers, Mid 2011 and newer systems.

  • Macbook shuts down while playing video

My Macbook randomly turns off while videos are being played regardless if it is a stream or being played from itunes. The computer only does this while running on battery when connected to the power cord it keeps running. When I am just running on battery but not playing video the computer will not turn off and runs as normal. I am at a complete loss for what could be wrong with the computer. I have checked the power saving options and every thing looks correct. PLease Help

Was this every resolved? I'm having the exact same problem. Notice it especially when I play a fullscreen games (like StarCraft) or video (streaming or iTunes). Just browsing the web doesn't seem to do it, or checking email, etc. Checked my battery cycles and I'm just below 200 (apples says around 300 you'll start to see a decline). Under battery condition it does say "Check Battery", but I kinda feel like this is when the "Check Engine" light goes on in a car - turns on after a certain internal counter goes off but has nothing to do with the actual condition.
    Suggestions?
    thanks

  • Computer shuts down while starting up

I have a 400 MHz iMac, not sure what model exactly it is, but when I try to start it up, it turns on and makes the classic OS X starting up noise. The light on the power button turns on, the caps lock light on the keyboard flashes on, and you can hear the cd drive start to boot when all of a sudden the whole computer turns off.
I made sure the socket i was plugged into wasn't shorting out or anything, i also checked to make sure the ram was in there properly, but i can't think of anything else to check. So does anyone have any idea what may be happening?

    EthanD...
The symptoms you describe sounds like the Flyback went out (PAV Board). You seem to get past the POST (Power On Self Test), as the keyboard light flashes, just to loose it on monitor startup. That is the last item of the self-protect cycle and down it goes.
Unfortunately unless you know how to do the work, that is extremely dangerous, it is an expensive professional repair.

  • Shuts down while starting up (wicked curveball)

My first generation iMac G5 has run flawlessly (aside from the dentist drill-like fan) until now. When I press the power button, the display turns on and displays the gray apple logo with the spinning startup graphic. Before it can move onto the next screen with the progress bar, the power suddenly cuts off.
Any ideas on what the issue is? What should I do?
    Much obliged my brothers.

After following this document to reset my SMU (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300908) my iMac still cuts power 1/2 way through the startup. That article suggests it must be a power supply issue. I started up in Safe Mode, which is quicker, and I saw all of my icons for a few seconds before the power cut off again -- so that is a good sign.
AND, turns out my power supply is covered through this:
    http://www.apple.com/support/imac/repairextensionprogram/
so I'm going to take my iMac into an Apple Store and have them replace the power supply for free (hopefully)
    Thanks for your help.

  • MacBook shuts down while installing snow leopard

Had to replace hard drive and am trying to install snow leopard. Seems to do fine for about 10 minutes and then turns itself off. Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

    Hi Bobsythe,
You could try using the Apple Hardware Test to make sure all the hardware is working as it should:

  • MacBook randomly shuts down while watching streaming video

I've been having a problem lately with my MacBook randomly shutting down. I initially thought it was due to overheating which was logical considering I was using my MacBook in bed and the computer was very hot when it would shut off, but I've recently started using a TV-Table top for it to sit on when I'm using it in bed. My MacBook continues to shut down and the computer isn't nearly as hot as it was prior to using the TV-Table top, it is just warm. It's definitely not a battery issue because this happens when I'm using the power source as well. *I think I've noticed that this only happens when I'm in Firefox watching online streaming video on sites such as YouTube.* I never use Safari so I'm not sure if the problem would occur in Safari or not. I tried installing the MacBook SMC Firmware Update v1.1 but it said my computer didn't need it.

I have the same problem, every once in a not-so-blue moon my macbook pro shuts down while streaming video. It only happens when streaming video. Just watched some of the new south park episode, and it shut down on me! It really ticks me off!!!!!

  • MacBook Pro (Mid-2009) shuts down while running on battery

    Hi,
Five months ago, my MacBook Pro 15'' (2.53Ghz) started showing me the message 'Service Battery'. I took it to an Apple Store and I was told that everything is still fine. Nevertheless, for the past 2 months my laptop shuts down while running on battery (with 20% and 40% levels of charge) periodically. This does not happen every time.
Does anyone know if AppleCare covers this failure?
Is there any other way to fix this?
    Thank you,
    George

Mine does the same thing.  May i suggest downloading istat pro to look at the health of your battery.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html
Also do you calibrate your battery?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
I had never done that but after 15 months and 450+ cycles I was experiencing the same problem.  I am a heavy user of my mbp 15"  (2.4Ghz).  After calibrating my health in istat which was going between 30-53 % Is holding steady around 65-mid 70% health wise.  I have also noticed that my battery icon has gone from service battery to replace now to holding at replace soon for the time being.
I am not sure how many cycles you can get out of one battery but as far as i know 700ish is good.  While i wish i was closer to an apple store (3ish hrs or more) i do hope i have helped you.

I have an iMac that I purchased back in 2010 and over the past 9 month or less my computer just started shutting down while someone was in the process or working on it.  What could this come from?  Is there a simple solutions to this problem?

Which model iMac do you have?  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1758 How to identify iMac models
    Which OS is currently installed?
Check out KB Articles:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
If not of the above works and you have AC, call them.  Let them deal w/it.  Otherwise, take your iMac down to your local AS or an AASP.  Diagnostic testing is FREE!
You can also research for a solution on YouTube's "How To" website and iFixit.

  • My  Macbook Air wakes up with a blank screen. Why do I have to shut down and start up to wake it up?

I use Mountain Lion on a macbook Air. When it goes to sleep  it wakes up with a blank screen, I have to shut down and start up again to wake it up. Can anyone help?

I had a similar thing on an old MacBook Pro where if I closed the lid, then reopened it before the sleep cycle took over, it would have a blank screen. I had to close the lid until the power light pulsed, then it would wake normally.
    Any similarities?

  • MacBook Pro randomly shutting down, while plugged in

My MacBook Pro has been randomly shutting down, while its plugged in and with full battery... I just replaced my battery a couple months ago so it isnt, or shouldnt be, a battery problem... anyone know whats going on?

Same is happening to me. It's only doing it since updating to Leopard.

  • Macbook shuts down!

I have had this problem several times, My macbook shuts down when printing. A large power button symbol comes across the screen saying basically that the computer has quit. Any ideas? To top it off I restarted and opened mail and it is as if no accounts exist, like I have opened mail for the first time ever???

Check the printer website for updated drivers.
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run _*Repair Disk*_ from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select *Disk Utility.*
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click *First Aid.*
    Click _*Repair Disk.*_
    Restart your computer when done.

  • MAC AIR SHUTS DOWN WHILE STREAMING

My MacBook Air shuts down while streaming video.  I am using safari and it works for a while but then shuts down and will not restart for quite some time.  When it restarts I have to immediately close the video window or it will shut down again.  I have the latest version of flashplayer.

This sounds like an overheating issue.  Flash requires a surprisingly high level of resources.  Do you hear your fans running at all while you are playing the videos?
Download the free iStat Pro widget directly from Apple:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html
It will show you both your fan speeds and temperature.  Start playing a video and let it play for a short while (sometime before it typically shuts off... but long enough to let things warm up).  Then check the temp and fan speed.  Do this while the video is still playing as things can cool off pretty fast after you stop playing the video.  Post the numbers back here.
