Your kernel panic is more likely hardware than software if an archive and install--that's what you did--doesn't take care of the problem. (Just a guess but it may be your Airport card.)
But you should still be under warranty, so call AppleCare or visit your local service provider to have your Mac looked at.

  • Macbook sleeping when powered on

    Hi
I have been noticing of late when my Macbook has been shutdown for a day or so, when I first power it up the sleep indicator light is lit and I have to press a button on the keyboard for it to start up. I am 100% sure the Macbook is shutdown and off before I close the lid so I am not sure why this is happening. Anyone else experienced this? This may have started occurring since installing the 10.4.7 update but may be just a coincidence.
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

it's normal. mine is the same when I turn on macbook, sleep light is lit little bit. then disappeared. it's probably recognized by system everytime restart. don't worry.

  • How do I stop my MacBook sleeping without a display

    Hi all,
I have a MacBook Pro 13 joined up (alongside my PS3) to an Apple 24" LED Display (they are on a switcher - HD620).
However, when I flip over to the HDMI input from the PS3, and therefore the MacBook Pro ceases to be using the 1920x1200 input to the display through MDP, it goes to sleep.
This is a problem for me as I often have background tasks I need doing, or I might only be flicking over to the PS3 for a second or so and then switching back. I therefore want my Mac to keep on running.
Can anyone suggest to me a way to keep my Mac running when there is no display connected - i.e. the lid is closed and the external display is effectively switched off?
    Thanks,
    Freddie

    Hi Freddie,
You would need a third-party app or hack, neither of which I'd recommend (people have trouble with them). If you want to pursue it, google for it and you'll find said apps/hacks/issues.

  • Macbook sleeping when screen open and wakes on close

I just repalced a busted screen on my Macbook 13"(white late early 2008) after it had falledn and broken the lcd screen.   Everything went fine and the parts all went back together perfectly and without any uncertainty with teh exception of the small magnet in the left side of the screen frame.
Now wehn I power on the Macbook the screen turns on for about three seconds then goes black. At first I thought it was not booting at all but after I walked away and came back to play with it I found that it finished booting up when the screen was closed. When I opened the screen I saw the desktop for a few seconds then the screen goes to sleep.  I can repeat this over and over all day long.
It looks like it is asleep when the screen is open but wakes up when the screen closes.  I know there is a Reed switch that controls this.  I moved the little magnet back and froth several times and any time it approaches the right area of the logic board the screen wakes up for a few seconds then goes black again.
Is there a reset that can be done to try and knock it out of this backwards mode?  (I have tried Command, Option, P, R while booting but no success)
Is it plssible that I am just holding the magenet in the incorrect orientation?  (I've tried turning it a few different ways)
Is it possible that the fall caused something to be damaged other than the screen?  (can't imagine a Reed switch going bad due to being bumped)
Any advice would be great.  Thanks!
    Doug

Try Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    slowly starts back up
How much free space on the startup disk?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.

  • Macbook sleeps with long delay and tons of system messages

It takes my MacBook Pro a long time to go to sleep (4 minutes or more). During this time thousands of messages are produced in the System log.
There are so many of them that some messages are discarded. Some of these messages:

    05/10/2014 16:31:09.000 kernel[0]: [0x2cb862000, 0x3000]
    What do these messages mean?
I have tried, without success, the following things:
    - reinstall the system
    - perform a disk verification
    - repair file permissions
    - boot in safe mode
What I have not tried is a hardware check, because I couldn't. (Starting up with D pressed has no effect and starting up with option-D pressed initiates the check, but this is aborted because my machine doesn't support it.)
The behavior takes place with hibernation, not with "unsafe sleep".

Thanks for the tip. I checked out the link. The issue is not that my log files are large but it's that log messages (the same message over and over again) are being constantly written to that Console application - I guess by syslogd - at a crazy rate per second which is causing the CPU to spike and causing my Free RAM to go from say 3GB to a few MB's within a matter of seconds. I actually can't find a log file on my system (via Spotlight search or Terminal "grep" searching) that has the hundreds and thousands of messages showing up in the Console log app. syslogd just gets "crazy" and pretty much takes over the CPU and depletes my computer free RAM when handling those:

  • Can't get my macbook to display on airplay after macbook sleeps

When my macbook pro goes to sleep I can't establish my airplay connection without restarting my macbook.
My macbook shows it's connected to airplay but win't disconnect. I try from the airplay menubar icon and from the display settings. I click disconnect and the menubar icon stays blue. I click switch to air display off in the display settings and it jumps back to airplay display on it's own. When I turn off wifi or turn it off on the apple TV, airplay goes away. When I turn wifi back on or turn on airplay on my apple TV, airplay reconnects or thinks it is connected but my macbook screen is not on the air display.
I am using apple TV software v7.0.1 and Yosemite 10.10.1. I am using the extended desktop option with my apple TV.
Any ideas how to get airplay to show again without having to restart my macbook?

You need to go to System Preferences>Displays, and set Video Mirroring.  I think you've got it set to Shared Desktop.

  • Programs close when Macbook sleeps

    I am new to Mac.
I open mail and some browsers. I then leave my macbook and it automatically locks after a few minutes, I presume it eventually goes to sleep. When I unlock after the screen has gone black, then all my programs closed.
I cannot download anything big and leave it to finish.
I have changed all the settings in the "Energy Saver" to never.
Also when I close the lid and open it all my programs are closed.
    Hope someone can help.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Just a guess, but under Security in System Preferences, do you have your Mac set to log out after a short period of inactivity? If so, the log out process will quit any open applications. You may want to check your settings here and possibly adjust them.
    Good luck!

  • Losing wireless passwords when macbook sleeps--how to prevent?

I typically use wireless Internet connectivity. When I put my Macbook (running X 10.5.7) in "sleep" mode or when I close the machine without shutting down, it "forgets" the password to the wireless router. When I open the machine it requires I reenter the password. When I shutdown and reboot, the wireless connectivity is fine--ie, it remembers the router password. This has happened on 3 different routers.
How do I prevent this from happening? It is obviously a nuisance.

Have you tried Keychain First Aid? Run the Keychain app and from the menu select Keychain First Aid from the Keychain Access menu option. If that does not work delete the Airport entry for the router and re-create it. Cant think of any other way to solve it.

  • 2007 MacBook Sleeps randomly

Well, my A1181 2007 Macbook is sleeping randomly, and i've tried a lot of things to fix it. I tried resetting smc, resetting NVRAM, using fsck in the single-user. Apple Hardware Test did not return me any problem also.
Tried booting from a friend's Mac OS installing disc (lost mine ). It sleeps on the installation screen, and short time it is awake it shows a message saying that Mac OS could not be installed (The disk is from a 2008 macbook).
It doesn't sleep when i'm on single-user or on the Hardware Test screen.
Did something like that happened to anyone here?
    Thanks a lot!!
(sry for the bad english haha)

Sorry for taking so long to answer :\
The Mac is taking about 4 secs to sleep again after i turn it on, so it was pretty hard to access the system profiler haha :S
Anyway, i checked the profiler, and battery conditions are ok. I took a photo of the screen with my iphone. It's in portuguese, but who knows, it might help somehow hahaha.

  • Macbook sleeps when turned on

I was using my MacBook today just checking out some websites and stuff when all of a sudden my computer went to sleep. I clicked using both the trackpad and a mouse that I like to use with it in an attempt to wake it up. I pushed some keys on the keyboard in another attempt to wake it up. I turned it off. Nothing. Turned it back on and it would just turn on but as soon as it turns on, the computer screen is black and the sleep indicator beside the IR sensor turns on. I have no idea what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im not sure which operating system I have but I bought the MacBook back in August if that helps at all.

You might want to read this article as a possible cause. You may have to boot in Safe Mode (Shift key down through boot) to get past the immediate sleep issue, then install the updates.

  • Macbook sleep problem

I just got brand new black Macbook. I am having a problem with it where I will put it to sleep, and a few minutes later, it will wake up by itself. I have an external mouse, keyboard, and monitor plugged into it. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this problem.
    Thanks for the help,
    ~eric

Do you still have the problem?

  • MacBook sleep problems

I have a black MacBook Intel Core2Duo 2ghz, purchased january/february 2007. At the time of purchase, it was running Tiger.
When Leopard was released, the MB was set up from scratch through "Erase & Install". Both the 10.5.1 and the 10.5.2 updates were installed by downloading and installing the combo updates. Other updates are done through Apple Update.
The MacBook is not in daily use and has therefore very few other programs than Apples own installed. The most recent installation (apart from the 10.5.2 update) is Office 2008. And just to have mentioned it - no third party "tweak" or "fiddle" programs has ever been installed on it.
After installing Leopard, the MacBook do not go to sleep. It goes to sleep if I put the lid down, but not if I leave it. Under Tiger it always went to sleep according to my settings in System Preferences, but not anymore.
I have reset the SMC, the PRAM and I have adjusted the Energy Saver settings, but no change. And of course - permissions are repaired numerous times (with nothing wrong).
Which now leaves me wondering what might be wrong? Does anyone have a clue or have experienced something similar and found a way to fix it?
    Sincerely,
    Espen

Have you tried creating a new bare-bones user account, then loggin in only to that account?
I was able to get my MacBook to sleep after logging into my basic test account, but I have not been able to reproduce it. I think I may have restarted and only logged in to that account, which makes me think it's a user account issue. Odd thing is I did the Safe Boot procedure on the main account, which should have been the most basic login, but the insomnia remained.
I had 10.5.3 on my first-gen MacBook, and no sleep issues. Upgraded the a new MB, and no sleep since I purchased it. Weird. Maybe a hardware issue then? It's just odd that my MacPro also does this. Ugh.

  • 10.5.7 Macbook sleeps once, freezes second time

After installing 10.5.7 from combo update, I can now only sleep my mac once. Second time it does not sleep, instead it freezes.
    It does this consistently.
I found another user with the same issue:
    +Peter Hull+
+After applying the 10.5.7 Combo update, my MacBook freezes consistently the second time I put it to sleep. In other words, sleep works once, but the second time I close the lid or choose "Sleep" from the menu, it freezes before it has a chance to sleep (i.e., the screen backlight stays on, the sleep light doesn't start "snoring", etc+
    Anybody got any solution?

Yes, I have the same problem as OP after innstalling 10.5.7 on a system similar to
    alecond's.
My first attempt to innstall 10.5.7 failed (combo update pakage) so firstly I assumed the update went wrong and that the buggy sleep/freezes where rooted in some files not been copied. Last night I reinstalled the update (w/o problems), but the freezes contiune.
As most posters note freezes occur on the second sleep. This has noting to do with USB or other peripherals. And on a side note I don't have Parallels or OpenVPN.
