MacBook slow; results in a freeze and inability to boot after shutting down
From time to time my MacBook starts getting slow. This always results in a total freeze, to which my (as far as I can tell only available) reaction is always powering it off with the P-button.
However, after I shut it down it always gets stuck at the loading screen when trying to boot again. I've experienced both a grey screen with spinning gear and a white screen with spinning gear. Usually a Pram-reset allows me to boot, but lately it has taken days and countless different fixes to get past the starting sequence.
This morning I spent 3 hours resetting every concieveable thing, booted in safe mode, did a disk repair, but to no effect.
Initially I couldn't even do a Pram-reset (it would just boot regularly without a second chime).
Later I was able to, but again to no effect (it would just get stuck at the grey screen).
I ended up leaving my MacBook for a few hours to 'rest'. Upon returning home I did another Pram-reset, and this time it booted normally - it just seems so random that it would suddenly work.
My question is: what can I do to prevent this in the future? The sudden drop in performance resulting in a freeze?

HP Touch Pad freezing and will not restart nor shut down.
My HP Touch Pad will not reboot nor shut off. I have a "hp" logo on the screen that will not go away. I have tried all of the 5 Ts with no sucess. I tried downloading webOS Doctor several times but when it went to connect my device I got an error message that stated " Connect your device directly to your computer with your usb cable." The screen below has "Help" and "Next". Next is greyed out. I inserted the usb cable into different ports on my computer and made sure that they were listed under my computer tab. I was unable to get the "Next" button to be useable. Any ideas about how I can make this connect to the touchpad? or even how I can get it to unfreeze. Appreciate any help.

On your Touchpad be sure to have:
USB cable. The battery is charged to at least 30%.
Computer:
Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista Available USB port (not a hub or secondary port). Java 1.5 or later is installed. If you are not sure about what version of Java you have, or even if Java is installed, go to www.java.com and click the Do I have Java? link to install the latest version of Java. 210MB of storage space. Internet connection.
Miscellaneous Info:
The update process will take approximately 15 minutes. During this process, your device will not be available for use.
Downloading webOS Doctor
Download webOS Doctor on your desktop computer. If you have a webOS profile, get it from http://ws.hpwebos.com/webosdoctor/sorry.htm

Get your TouchPad ready to update
Hold the Power Button for several seconds until a menu appears. Tap Shut Down to completely power down your device.
Running webOS Doctor
Double-click the file that was downloaded to run webOS Doctor. Follow the on screen directions up until you are asked to connect your device. Select the language you selected on your device, and click Next. Confirm your language choice. Click Accept to accept the terms of use. Click Next. webOS Doctor checks your system. BE PATIENT! I've seen this part take a few minutes to complete. After webOS Doctor finishes checking your system, you will be asked to connect your device.
Connecting your device and finishing the webOS Doctor update
Connect your device to your computer using the USB cable. You must connect your device directly to your computer, not through a USB hub or other intermediate device. Now the tricky part. Hold the Volume Up button on the device and insert the USB cable. After the large USB symbol appears on screen, let go of the Volume Up button. If you see the HP logo instead of the large USB symbol, you may have let go of the Volume Up button prematurely. If this occurred , wait until your device boots up, shut down your device and then repeat step 2. Windows will find your device and may offer to install two different drivers. When asked to install drivers of OMAP, select No, not at this time. When asked to install drivers for Palm Novacom (bootie), select Yes and let the drivers install. This may take a while. Once the drivers have been installed, the Next button will become available in webOS Doctor. Click Next. Do not disconnect your device from the computer during the update process. When the Reset Complete screen appears, click Done. Wait a few minutes for your device to reset. You're done!

I inserted a burnt disc into my macbook pro and iTunes froze, had to shut down my mac in order to eject the disc. Is it not possible to transfer music from homemade cds onto my mac?

After installing Mavericks my MacBook Pro and my MacMini can't shut down, only a grey screen and finish. Must be killed by the power button. Why?

Ausserdem startet die Macs wesentlich langsamer als mit OS X 10.6.8.same here... sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't!!

I was surfing online when suddenly my mac just freeze. So i had forced shut down it and turned it on again but then the folder with questionmark icon shows up. And i pressed (option key) to go to the utility but i cant find my startup disk anywhere!
Well, if the internal hard drive is no longer readable, there's pretty much nothing anyone here can do about it. There are no magic words that will fix a hardware problem.
Make an appointment at the genius bar and have it looked at. -

Hi, my iMac screen freezes and a grey colour slowly creeps down the screen and has a large black square in the centre saying "You must restart your computer by pressing the power button and then pressing it again to restart" or words to that effect in English and about 4 or 5 other languages. I find this happens more frequently when I try to stream movies or tv shows. It also happened when I was trying to download a couple of tv shows from iTunes.
It also sometimes makes a wierd sound a kind of loud noise like a record stuck in a groove. This has happend many times since upgrading to Lion. I hear a lot of people on here talking about their screens going completely black and not responding. I believe that mine has only gone black a couple of times and I couldn't wake it up from "sleep mode" with the mouse or keyboard. I don't know if this is also happening to other people, but my bluetooth keyboard keeps disconnecting all the time since the upgrade as well, it's driving me nuts!! Plus my wifi will show that it is fully operational, however, I can't use the internet when I wake my computer from sleep mode. I have to click on wifi and turn wifi off then on again before i can use it.
Is Apple going to come out with a fix or are we going to eternally suffer indefinitley.Hi Eric,
I don't know why it didn't work before, but here is the most recent errol log. It crashed again about an hour later. If there is a solution, i would greatly appreciate knowing what it is because I can't enjoy using my computer anymore because of these constant crasahes.

If the same website is opening each time you launch a browser (Safari?) hold down the shift key as you launch to prevent previous pages from opening.
Have a look at your settings in Safari > Preferences. Especially General and Privacy.
Reset Safari to remove cookies and other stored data.

Have a look at your settings in System Preferences > Security & Privacy.

Losing Desktop Items/Documents after shutting down and restarting
Twice, over the last couple of months after shutting down and restarting my macbook, everything on my desktop gets deleted, and it seems all the settings go back to their original form?
Anyone have this problem?
Message was edited by: jram1111Hi, I had this problem and it was due to setting file vault in the security settings. I removed having that set and then I had to go into system settings, Account and under Login Items, add back items such as mail and things that required passwords that were not coming up on my dock after each time I shut down.

Lost Safari bookmarks and dock changed after shutting down
I shut down my computer at work while I was on vacation 2/5-14. When I turned it back on this morning, the dock was in a different place and was missing all the "keep in dock" icons I had added although the desktop clutter was still there.
When I went on Safari, the homepage was the default one and not the one I had selected. None of the bookmarks that I had been adding over 3 years was there either. No one used my computer and all I did was shut down on 2/2. The user is still highlighted as me. Can anyone shine a light on what happened and how to get my original settings back?

Check the hard disk for free space. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.
If there's enough free disk space, launch Disk Utility. It's in your Applications/Utilities folder. Select MacintoshHD in the Sidebar on the left then select the FirstAid tab.
Click: *Verify Disk* (not Verify Disk Permissions). If Disk Utility reports problems, follow the instructions at this link so you can repair the startup disk. You will need your install disc.

when i click to open firefox it says that "firefox is already running but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system." and I've tried to shut down and restart my computer but it keeps showing the same message. I have a iPhone 4 and lately it has been shutting down randomly when I still have battery left. It also doesn't turn back on, until I plug it in to the charger. But when I plug it in, the low battery sign shows up then comes to the lock screen with like 68% left.

Latest Premiere and Media encoder CC update shuts down when you load saved file or try to export to media encoder.
I tried restarting after update, next is to revert to previous version.Every time I've try to export from Premiere Media Encoder gives me this error message that says: Installation error - please ensure this product have been installed properly.
I can't find a way to only reinstall media encoder from CC

I was an apple beta tester for iOS7 and now my iPhone 5 shut down, it's unresponsive it gets recognized by iTunes when plugged into the computer but that's it. Since I was a beta tester is there any way to fix my iPhone??

Do the following:
Make sure you are signed into iMessage and FaceTime with your current ID. If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.) Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID). Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device). -
