Macbook software update reboots then acts like its never been used before!!
HELP - perfectly working Macbook 10.5.1 - did software update, computer rebooted, and then presented me with the create account/register screens that you would get if you just bought the thing or reloaded the OS.
Any ideas what happened and how to go back? I don't want to create any new user accounts and overwrite anything!
I booted in safe mode and was able to see my accounts, but logging into either of them took me back to the registration loop.
I decided to restore from TM backup from 6pm last night. I think the issue was caused because I had a couple of crashed programs and did the system update- somehow it messed something up.

IGNORE the last post: he thought you are using Lion or Mountain Lion.
Since you are using Snow Leopard, you need to install Rosetta. It can be found on your Snow Leopard Install DVD in the Options section.
Once installed all should be well again.
Also, if your computer is connected to the internet when the Dialog Box about PowerPC applications comes up, it MIGHT allow you to download Rosetta from the internet. There has been some discussion that Apple has discontined internet download of Rosetta into Snow Leopard.
Someone else will have to address your lost files problem. -
After software update and restart, acts like it's a new install?

After doing the recent software update on my son's 20" iMac C2D machine, I did the restart and once it reboots I get the "quick start" page as if it were a new install of Leopard and nothing were no user accounts set up. I can restart in target disc mode and connect to the iMac with my MBP, everything is still there, including all the recent files on the desktop. The Time Machine back up is also in tact.
Why can't it see the account and boot up? Any way to boot from the Time Machine back up? Any help is much welcomed at this point as my son needs to do some school work tonight.By "quick start" do you mean the Setup Assistant that, among other things, lets you setup the first user account? If so, go with it. When you get to setting up that account, ensure that the "short name" exactly matches the name of the lost home folder. The new account will "adopt" that folder & you should be back in business.
FWIW... an alternative would be to setup a temporary account like "test". Once you have access to the system, you'd go to SysPrefs->Accounts and add a new user whose short name, again, matches the name of the home folder you want. In this case, it will say that a folder with that name exists & ask whether you want to use it. This method is useful if you can't remember the exact name of the folder in question - you can open the Users folder and copy the name letter for letter. -
I bought my HP laptop in 2012, and it came preloaded with Adobe Premiere and Photoshop Elements 10
It worked fine and I even made a few video edits back in 2012 but for the last year Elements just REFUSES to work properly
I used to be able to open elements to at least the "what do you want to do?" screen
But now It won't even open this...I have no idea why...
If I double click the Elements application my computer slows down, bracing itself to load, and then ....thats it....it reverts to its normal speed and elements just doesn't open...
Any help would be great cause I feel like I've exhuasted all self-troubelshooting options and need to either get help from the forums or take the laptop in before I smash it in ragethrillhousecody

Recent history for Premiere Elements points to the program having problems when more than 1 video card/graphics card is
being used by the computer on which Premiere Elements is running. This observation may seem contra indicated by the fact
that you say that the program did work well about 2 years ago in the same setup. But other factors may have set in with regard
to drivers, drivers versions, and driver conflicts. But this factor, does need to be ruled in or out.
Can you disable one or the other card to determine the impact of this on your problem?
But, of prime concern with regard to video card/graphics card is the use of a NVIDIA GeForce card with Premiere Elements 10.
Even if your NVIDIA GeForce were the only card, Premiere Elements 10 will not work properly unless the NVIDIA GeForce driver
version is rolled back to about May 2013. This may be one of the major factors here.
a. Device Manager/Display Adapters and find out Driver Version and Driver Date
b. Read the background information for the Premiere Elements 10/NVIDIA GeForce issue

Never turn off your Mac while it is downloading, installing or updating software.
Just let Software Update do its thing. -

Hi I was recently playing a game and all of a sudden my computer keeps acting like its shutting down but then locks up just as its supposed to switch off it goes blank on my screen it has never done it before I have had it for a few years now I have played a few different games online and this has never happened before till recently.
I have used a few anti virus programs to try and find a virus that could be causing it a few were found it said they were malware or Trojans and they got removed. I also tried to check for any other viruses nothing found I even uninstalled some games as well.
problem could my system hardware be failing? any help much appreciated.
I also cleaned it out thinking it was overheating could it be possible that the motherboard or proscessor its overheating and burning out. If you have a virus you can run a system recovery to remove the virus.
The system recovery will remove everything on your computer including the virus and put the system back to day one. Just like when you opened it out of the box.

Eraser tool in Photoshop CS4 acts as if it is transparent when on brush or pencil mode. Block acts like its not transparent at all but there are no options for opacity, flow or brush size. Whats wrong and how to I make the brush and pencil eraser erase completely without having to go over it multiple times?
It started randomly about two weeks ago and I thought it was a glitch that would just go away. But now I am getting sick of using only the block eraser on one size. Help?The easiest thing to start with is to reset the Eraser Tool.
Right click on the Eraser icon in the tool options bar and then click on Reset Tool. -
I'm trying to update my iphone, but when I download the software update and then when it is "complete" a message pops up stating that it has been timed-outed and to try again later. This is the 5th time i've tried. And i am getting very annoyed. Can anyone help me?

So the sleep button only works intermittently? That sounds like the switch is about to fail. This isn't that uncommon... If you go to
settings -> general -> accessibility -> assistive touch
Turn this on and you will find a translucent little doo-dah appears. In this under device there is an option to set your phone to sleep. It's not the best solution but at least you'll be able to lock it when it does fail completely.
As for your sound problems, it may be that the mute switch is broken, make sure vibration is set to on and give it a wiggle. Your phone should vibrate when you set it to silent and an icon should also appear momentarily on the screen.
Also, I'd check your settings as headphone volume and speaker volume are set independently of each other. -
Since this morning when I try Software Updates and then Updates, I get a consistent message - An Error has occurred, The operation couldn't be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error - 1012). Is this a server error and what do I do next?

What does it mean when my ipad is in Recovery mode? It's connected to my imac for software update and it says I must "restore" the ipad before itunes can be used. Will I lose everything on my ipad?
Unless you have a backup from which you can restore, yes you will lose all of your data and settings.
You should be able to sync your content back to the iPad if you have been syncing with iTunes all along. If you don't sync with iTunes, you can download much of your paid content again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID. This explains downloading past purchases.

You need to connect it to iTunes on a computer and restore it. If you have a backup in iCloud, you can restore using that backup. If you don't, then all your data and settings will be lost, though you can get back your apps, and depending on your country perhaps your purchased content, from the iTunes Store.
