Macbook spontaneously goes into sleep mode and screen off mode

Hi. My Macbook spontaneously goes into sleep mode and screen off mode with varying time between each instance. It usually goes for a few minutes or even hours without doing it and then will go through periods of fluctuation between the modes. I believe this to have started with a minor orange juice accident rather than it being anything software related.
Any ideas as to how I might rectify the problem? Thanks very much in advance,
Danny

When you say it goes into sleep mode ...do you mean you actually see the white pulsing light?
It may be that there is an application running (perhaps in the background) that is keeping your book awake. Printer software sometimes does this for example ...try logging out and seeing if it sleeps like that. If it does, then it very well may be a background process running.
You may find some items in System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items that may be the culprit.

  • Macbook pro goes into sleep mode after few minutes and won't wake up

Since yesterday my MB pro suddenly goes in sleep mode while working and won't wake up. After reset the MB Pro goes into Sleepmode befor I get the log in screen. After resettin SMC and PRAM I can log in but after a few minutes, againg deep sleep. I'ts not a software isue I think because when I use my MB Pro's harddrive by firewire as the startup disk on an other macbook it works fine. anyone knows about this problem?

It sounds obvious but are you sure your power adapter is ok and the battery is charged. The behaviour sounds a lot like low battery sleep.
Press the check button on your battery pack - do you get plenty of lights?

  • Macbook Pro goes into sleep mode randomly

I have a Macbook Pro, early 2011 version running Mountain Lion. Sometimes, it doesnt matter  what I am doing but it will be running fine and then out of no where the screen will go black. I assume it goes to sleep because the sleep light goes on. It take a couple minitues for it to "wake up," more than from a usual sleep. Is there something wrong with my computer? Is there a quick fix for it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Power or other problems related to unexpected system sleep, shutdown, lights or fans call for an SMC reset:
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • HT1338 My macbook pro goes to sleep randomly and only wakes up when i tilt it

I bought my new macbook pro last june in miami and somehow it just goes to sleep on its own in the middle of doing anything.
Clicking, pressing the start button, the space bar or anything won't wake it up. Tilting it or lifting the computer would. And that's scaring me. It just did it 4 times in a row and i am just browsing the web
Anyone know if this is a hardware thing or the software is going nuts or my mac is haunted ??
I have the mac insurance thingy so should i call them or what do i do? Thanks for the help

Check your current setup (I left my MBP as "3")
    go to Utilities > Terminal
After you launch Terminal, the first step is to determine which sleep mode your Mac is currently using. You can both view and change the sleep mode using the Unix program pmset. To see your current settings, type (or, copy and paste)
    pmset -g | grep hibernatemode
    press 'enter'
You should see something like this:
    $ pmset -g | grep hibernatemode
    hibernatemode 3
Great, so your machine is using mode 3, whatever that might be. Well, thanks to the documentation for the handy Deep Sleep Dashboard widget, which puts your machine immediately into hibernation mode (so you don’t have to yank all the power sources to invoke it), we can tell exactly which mode is which:
    * 0 - Old style sleep mode, with RAM powered on while sleeping, safe sleep disabled, and super-fast wake.
    * 1 - Hibernation mode, with RAM contents written to disk, system totally shut down while “sleeping,” and slower wake up, due to reading the contents of RAM off the hard drive.
    * 3 - The default mode on machines introduced since about fall 2005. RAM is powered on while sleeping, but RAM contents are also written to disk before sleeping. In the event of total power loss, the system enters hibernation mode automatically.
    also, I enabled this:
    go to Utilities > Terminal
type in sudo pmset lidwake 0 then "enter"
it will ask for your password. type it in, that's it!
Now, when your computer is sleeping with the lid closed, when you open the lid nothing happens until you press any key ... nice: keeps it off when accidentally opened, like in a backpack?
WARNING: Improper use of the sudo command could lead to data loss
or the deletion of important system files. Please double-check your
typing when using sudo. Type "man sudo" for more information.
To proceed, enter your password, or type Ctrl-C to abort.

  • Logicboard fried each time mba goes into sleep with external screen attached

I got new Mba 13". Plugged in my Phillips 24" screen as usual. Went away for an hour or so. Come back, and MBA doesn't wake up from sleep anymore. It's just dead, no light etc. I've tried all methods described here.
Brought it to service centre, they tell me logic board chip set is completely blown. So they replace to new logic board. Two days later, excactly same problem. When I put it to sleep without external screen, it seems fine. But once I've external screen attached. I've put it even manually to sleep. I only heard a small "flop" sound. And then again. MBA is dead.
So same thing. Brought to service center, they check. Again logic board fried. Also they told me that a lot of customers have same problem. Some ppl even replace logic board for four times!!!
Come on apple? Seriously? Whats going on here? Anybody have same problem and found solution? (except not putting it to sleep and contiously repair logic board).

Just an update on my situation...  My 2nd logic board fried after about 5 days of use.  Its been in the shop now for about 3 weeks waiting for another logic board as well as the USB daughterboards.  Not sure how they determined that they needed to be replaced - I think they're just guessing at this point.
When you guys had your boards fried, did you have anything plugged into USB?  I have a USB hub plugged in, and the hub has a hard disk, and logitech camera attached.  Its been plugged in during each failure along w/ my monitor (a 22inch LG).
At this point I have no faith that the repairs will fix this.  I've replaced my power strip, and will replace my USB hub next, but I just don't believe anything external is causing this, as I'm using all the same components with another laptop w/o any issues.
This next repair is my 3rd repair attempt, and my machine has been unusable since December 6th, 2011.  Apple better replace it if it fails again.  Nothing like buying the top of the line machine and having it in the shop for half as long as I've owned it.    Apple's handing of this situation has been extremely poor, and as a first time mac owner, all I can say is I am not impressed.

  • Every time my MacBook Pro goes to sleep or the screen saver activates, it freezes and I must force a reboot.

This just started happening randomly a couple months ago.  Now it happens on every sleep or screen saver instance.  I cannot trace it to a specific OSX update.  I have gone as far as a full OSX recovery and restoration of Time Machine backup.  Where can I look to get to the bottom of this?

  • How do I stop my macbook from going into sleep mode while watching netflix

Hi can somebody give me a hand?

Open System Preferences > Energy Saver
Move the sliders for as long as needed to watch the movie.
Deselect:  Put hard disks to sleep when possible
After watching the movie, in System Preferences > Energy Saver, rremember to click:  Restore Defaults to save wear and tear on the hard drive.

  • My Macbook Pro goes into sleep mode despite disabling it in Energy Center. It won't wake up without a hard reboot. Why?

I have a LaCie thunderbolt external storage device attached. All the reboots are of concern for this device. I've tried cntrl-option-eject to no avail.  Only the power switch works.

  • My macbook boots up and only stays on for 30sec and goes into sleep mode

My macbook boots up and only stays on for 30sec and goes into sleep mode! Any suggestions as to why this might be happening? Thanks....

I assume you have checked your sleep settings in System Preferences>Energy saver
I also assume this has just happened recently and spontaneously, not after installing any particular hardware or software or you would probably have mentioned it...if anything new has been added recently, obviously just remove it!
It could be the battery - have your tried it just on mains? If it's a pre unibody MacBook try it without the battery at all. This could happen if you have a non-Apple (cheap Chinese) replacement battery.
Try NVRAM, PRAM & SMC resets (Google if you don't know how)
Try booting from the install media and repairing or reinstalling OS X. (Back up first!)
Just out of interest if you boot from a DVD or go into Open Firmware or Boot Select modes, does it still sleep after 30 seconds or is it just in OS X?

  • Streaming audio from my IPAD to my Apple TV from Rhapsody application.  when Apple TV go into Screen Saver mode, about 5 minutes after that it stops playing the Audio Stream and goes into Sleep mode.

I am Streaming audio from my IPAD to my Apple TV from Rhapsody application.  when Apple TV go into Screen Saver mode, about 5 minutes after that it stops playing the Audio Stream and goes into Sleep mode.  I am using the Optical Out from the Apple TV to my receiver, the Apple TV is hard Wired to the Network, the IPAD is Wirelessly attached to the network (it continues to play the Audio Stream).  When the Apple TV is turned back on it resumes playing once I manual select it for output from the IPAD.  All device are on current releases of software.  I have no Video hooked up to the Apple TV.  How do I correct this?

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Updated to windows 10 and now my computer stays black when it goes into sleep mode

I just updated my computer to windows 10. Whenever it goes into sleep mode and i try to move the mouse it just stays black and i have to turn my computer off and then on again. after that it finally works but its just annoying. I already tried updating my card driver, but it said it was already up to date.

My iMac i7 quad was having the same symptoms with the blue screen and long startup times a couple of months ago.  Apple Care told me to bring it in to the local Apple Store, and after some diagnostics, the hard drive required replacing.  It took one day to replace the hard drive and my iMac is running great. I only had the iMac for about 12 months when the drive needed to be replaced.  Not sure if that is your Mac's problem, but it was for mine.

  • 24" imac goes into sleep mode and lights on circuit flicker

    Hi -
I have a 24" imac and have found that when the display goes into sleep mode the lights on the circuit flicker.
I have searched the web and other users have complained of the same issue with no resolution.
Here is a similiar post - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2606099?start=0&tstart=0.      The resolution is probably you need to get the iMac serviced,  what i'm wondering is what is the problem in the imac that is causing the issue.    Is this a defect?
Before anyone questions the circuitry in my house here is what I have verified.
An electrician has come and verified the electric panel is good and all circuit breakers are good.   All circuits in my house are copper, no aluminum.
I can plug the iMac into any circuit and the problem starts right when the Imac's display goes to sleep.     I have owned the iMac for approximately 5 months now (bought it used) and the problem started about a month ago.
Assuming this has to be serviced I dread to wonder the price .
      Thanks for anyones help.

The sleep timeout has nothing to do with disk activity. It's based on user input, although some background processes can pre-empt it. If you don't want the machine to sleep automatically, disable automatic sleep in the Energy Saver preference pane.

  • RBDAPP01 going into SLEEP Mode and Idocs still in 64 status

    Hey all,
I have a Inbound Idoc interface which is being processed using RBDAPP01 Program. The Issue I am facing is that the job running the rbdapp01 program goes into sleep mode even though there are idocs present in 64 status. I tried to debug the work process using SM66 but it does not open any debugging window although it says debugging started. If I cancel the Job and run it again it processes those Idocs Any input on how one can resolve this issue?
    Thanks.

    Hi Aparna,
Here is extract from SAP material on running RBDAPP01 transaction and possible reasons for delay in processing. HOpe this can help you.
To automate the treatment of IDocs, you must run the ABAP program RBDAPP01 (transaction BD20) in job. This program has a very good option for parallel processing which can reduce a lot the time required for treatment. However use it carefully and make sure you set a packetsize high enough to avoid that your SAP system be overwhelm by demands for available dialog tasks (don't forget one dialog task is monopolized per IDocs packed to treat).
    Best Regards,
    Krishna

To rule out any sleep mode issues with the monitor, I am providing you with some steps you can try below:
Step 1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor and the wall
Step 2. Hold the power button down for at least one minute
Step 3. Plug the power cord back into the monitor and then into the wall outlet (not a power bar or surge protector)
Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitor
Step 5. Navigate to the Factory Reset option and select it
Step 6. Try a different cable connecting your monitor to your computer

  • My iMac goes into sleep mode, won't come out until I unplug and replug the computer then hit the power button. Just hitting the power button alone won't restart the iMac.

My Imac goes into sleep mode but won't come out.  The keyboard/mouse won't rouse it and the power button won't do it either.  I have to unplug the computer, re-plug it in and then hit the power button.  Help?

I looked around the internet and found an old post that seems to have solved the problem.  I had a relatively new USB port (powered) that I unplugged and, ta da, the problem disappeared.  I'm not sure why this happens (I'm not a tech person) but it seems like this should have been worked out in testing somewhere.
