MacBook Stain

I purchased my MacBook back in June, as I needed it for college. I heard about the stain problems, and was thankful that mine wasn't having them. However, I didn't use it much over the summer (I had a desktop that I mainly used).
BUT, when I finally got to college, I noticed the stain beginning to rapidly develop. I was using the machine every day, so I'm figuring that's why.
My 90 days of phone support expired, so I'm not really sure how to contact Apple about my warranty service. I'm not anywhere near an Apple store (it's 2 hours away).
What are my options for warranty? I have several places that sell Macs, including a store called iPlace (which is basically like a privately owned Apple store, but not as cool). Am I able to get service from them under my warranty?
I'm not really sure how it works. But, anyway, I've tried cleaning the stains, but it's not working. So I'm going to try to go for the next step.
Will Apple still cover this, even though I bought my laptop back in June? I know it's been awhile, but I didn't use it much at all for two months. And when it finally did start showing up, I wasn't able to get it serviced (we're required to have laptops for classes).
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm in very similar circumstances to yourself,
I've got the protection plan and have been to the store where i was told i would need to book it in with genei or whatever they're called.
When i do this they will take the mac off me and do it within a 'short time period' how vague is that?!?
Supposedly we're supposed to let our macs help run our lives as they say in the adverts, and yet I'm supposed to just hand it over for a 'short time'
The answer to your question is probably that they will replace it as it is a factory problem. However they may not and may want to charge you. If they want to charge you, why don't you purchase the protection plan as you can then get it done for free and your mac will be covered for the remaining 2 years. I am currently waiting till i go on holiday or something when i will take it in before i can go and collect it when i return.
I'm very dissapointed by apples service on this one, its a fault from the factory, not somethign I've done and it should be treated as a priority, particularly as I have paid all that money for the extra coverage.
Let me know how you get on
Nick

  • Macbook stains on the palmrest

After a few short days with my Macbook I started to get ugly yellowish stains on the palmrests. I called APPLECARE.
Congrats to Apple. Took back my laptop on a Weds Afternoon (from NY ) sent it to Tennessee and got it back to me by Friday!
That's the kind of customer service that builds brand name loyalty.

When I bought my MacBook I also just pitched in $20 more for > the marware palm rest. It is soft and comfy as well as protecting that part of the faceplate.
I agree with the marware purchase. good product. I really like mine, although the keyboard protector is about half a centimeter short.

  • Case Discoloration: white or black?

    Hi Guys
I was extra happy about this machine: no heat issues, no moaning... just great...
Until today I spotted a pale pinkish stain on the right right of the track pad where the wrist is supposed to stay...
I sent an email today to Apple since I am still within the 14 days to give it back.
Now my question: should I go for the Black one who is not affected by discoloration (even if i heard about fingerprints dirt issues) or believe that the plastic too porous is now remowed and new white models are discoloration free?
Your suggestions and experiences are appreciated , thanx

Applecare should give you a replacement...

  • Apple acknowledges discoloration as Manufacturing defect...

    http://news.softpedia.com/news/Apple-Acknowledges-MacBook-Stains-As-Manufacturin g-Defect-28129.shtml
    Is this true?

Update, I just received my second MacBook today.
First one is week 20 but I really can't remember the surface on the wrist rest whether it smooth or rough, but it think it's smooth.
And my second MacBook, week 25, got it today.
The wrist rest is smooth, everything is PERFECT.
The keyboard is quite a bit better than the first one, I totally satisfied with it.
no moo, whine, display artifact at this time.
And the reason I returned the first one is because of the Hinge, it create some noise and not so smooth.

  • Discoloration-Replacing now or what?

Okay, I am posting this in MacBook and iBook forums because I see it's a main problem in the MacBooks, but I have a white iBook that I got in May and it's turning the heinous shades of orange, peach, gray.
And so I found this site: http://stainedbook.info/ which that picture of the stained book looks exactly like mine and then I found some forums but I had a couple more questions and things to add.
I noticed one small stain about three weeks after I got my iBook, I understand there's normal wear and tear on any computer but one month? That's a little uncalled for, I'd say.
I used all the various things (including the non acetone nail polish remover, didn't work.) I even started compulsively washing my hands before I come on the computer.
I don't eat around my computer, I don't smoke, no one in my house does.
I went into the Apple Store a couple miles from my house and the Genius accused me of being a "cheeto and frito eater and getting my grubby hands over it" and he called me a liar and "I wasn't telling him the truth and I am making up that the stains just started appearing" and it's my fault. I told him on the Apple site and various other sources keep talking about this discoloration and he told me "well people post pictures of the lochness monster and believe that too so obviously it's not true." I was taken aback because one, I don't eat cheetos, two, I am not lying to you, I just don't want my computer to look icky, and if it's a defect it should be noticed and bought to attention, not shoved under the rug.
He was rude and obnoxious and putting me down in a store full of customers was demeaning. He said I could replace the plastic case for $400 (um that's over a 1/3 or almost 1/2 of the total cost of the darn thing to begin with!
). (This includes, the keyboard, the mouse/trackpad, the ares by it, the top case, the bottom, the usb/etc ports, the battery, all parts have been affected by this orangey-ness that has grown worse over the past two months.)
I read online that Apple has noticed this discoloration defect and is perhaps replacing them? Can I e-mail someone directly about this? I tried the AppleCare but the lady said they would send me a box and I would send it back and it would cost me to replace the parts because she didn't understand what was wrong. I also complained about the awful service I recieved while in the Apple Store.
But who do I tell or where do I go to get this straightened out? I love my computer a lot and it works wonderfully, but these stains as people can testify too, are awful. I've never recieved such inadequate service for a problem like this.
(I really wish I had gotten a black MacBook now instead of the white iBook ahh.)
I really wanted to know if anyone has had theirs replaced or
what you did. I think this discussion needs to keep going and needs attention. If the computer was over a year old, it would be different, but two months? Give me a break (thanks John Stossels) And thanks to everyone in advance who gives replies or responses!

Sorry to hear your frustation about apple "genius" guy.
Lately I experience myself the "genius" guys that work at apple store become likely regular sales people (maybe apple lower the IQ standard for hiring the genius guy).
When you go to apple store, did you bring your iBook with you and show it right before their eyes?
For your iBook, honestly this is the first time I heard the iBook also affected by discoloration, but you look like not made this thing up and you have your iBook as the proof, so I suggest try to speak with a reasonable person at apple service center / apple care like other post suggest, if you don't meet one, give another call and I hope you found one that will see your case fairly and clearly.
Prepare all of your invoice that have the purchase date and serial number and such to make the process smoother for both sides.
    Good Luck.
    Good Luck

  • How do I get the coffee stain out of my MacBook Pro screen? Spilled coffee on it e

I spilled coffee on my MacBook Pro this morning .... used the cool setting on my blow dryer for 20 mintues to dry out the keypad ....
Switched it back on in 4 hours .... everything works , except I now have a coffee stain behind my screen .... is there a way to absorb that out
or do I have to buy a new lid for my computer ?

You might have to have a new screen installed.  It's not too expensive ($160) and it's DIY, if you have the right tools and skills.

  • Macbook Pro Retina 15" strange stain on screen

Hi guys. Today i noticed a strange stain on the bottom right corner of my Macbook Pro Retina 15 screen (plase see the photo provided). I thought that it's just dirty but it's impossible to clean it. Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

Hi!, this is a message that I left in another post that is related to this case:
Hi guys. I have the same problem and this clearly is a design problem.
We all have had bad experiences in both official Apple stores and partners stores separately so I think is time to make Apple seriously aware of this issue and ask them to find us a free and permanent solution. We are all Apple loyal customers and this problem clearly is not our fault, it is not driven by bad use so we need to join forces and push the company to solve this.
I have created an online database so the people that want can get it and share your problem details, pictures as well as your Macbook details and contact info. As soon as I have an important amount of people (let's say 50 - 100 people) I will start contacting Apple employees via social networks and provide them with details of the people in the list.
    https://macbookscreenproblem.wufoo.com/forms/zsnnv1p0gc67dc/
Of course this DB is STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL and will ONLY be used to contact Apple and show them that there is a significant amount of people with this problem and that we are demanding a solution to this.
Let's join forces and fix this annoying problem.
    Thanks,
    Eduardo

  • Younger sibling accidentally stained my macbook pro with nail polish, how to erase it?

So my younger sister painted hearts on the upper case of my Macbook Pro and I tried removing it with nail polish remover but there are stains left and I have no idea on how to erase the stains. I am avoiding on using nail polish remover again because I'm afraid that the paint will fade.
Does anyone have any safe ideas on how to remove it?

What paint? Macs are not painted but you will stain the aluminum.
Great care, warm soapy water and plenty of time is what you need, be very careful not to get any water inside

  • Macbook Pro retina stained display

Hi, I've bought a brand new Macbook Pro 15' with retina display, and I've noticed that there is a stain on the display. It seems that such stain is in between the glass and the LCD panel, so I think it has nothing to do with a dead pixel issue.
Has anybody had this problem?, What can i do about it?
I attach two pictures of the stain.

    Thx!

Nothing you can do but bring it back. It looks like some lazy tech touched the glass before assembling it and the oils got between and oxidized.

  • How to remove dirt stains on aluminium lid of Macbook pro?

Good day! I recently found some marks and stains of dirt in my macbook pro's aluminum body. I tried wiping it off with Alcohol and Water but it won't disappear it looks like its stained on the metal already.
Is there any thing I can apply on the surface of the metal to remove these stains and maybe polish the metal of my laptop?
Here are some pictures of the surface of the laptop so you can see the stain marks I am talking about.

Try something like Goof-Off or Methyl Ethyl Ketone on a cotton swab on a part of the Mac that nobody see's too much to test the reaction, let it dry and look at that tiny spot a few days later.
Make sure you do this outside, both chemical have a strong order.
If nothing there, then try a little on the spot(s) and always use a clean swab, dip a little, let it work (takes some time), then remove with a dry cloth, repeat.
Don't pour liquids anywhere near the machine.
The two chemicals I've mentioned are very strong solvents, takes off a lot of things including paint.

  • Help removing a black stain on macbook.

I bought the macbook about 2 weeks ago and have been using this incase case:
    http://www.goincase.com/products/detail/13-neoprene-sleeve-cl57089
It stained it only once, no new stains are showing up, but I can't seem to get rid of this one. I've tried Mr. Clean magic eraser but that isn't working.
Here are pics of the stain:

As I said in your original post, iTunes U is not available to any institution, government or otherwise, in South Korea. If or when Apple will extend iTunes U to your country is something none of us here can say, and Apple will not until such time as they're ready to make an announcement. What Apple's criteria and requirements are for being able to open iTunes U in a given country is unknown; there is no "procedure" that any of us here can state or direct you to that you could initiate. It's totally up to Apple, and if they are working on this, I'm sure they know who in the SK government they would need to work with.
Sorry, but you will just have to wait and hope that something develops in the future.
    Regards.

  • Does every 2 week-old MacBook have irremovable yellow/pink stains?

I'm just curious after reading some posts about the stains.
To all of you silent majority MacBook users out there - Did your laptop show stains after 1.5 ~ 2 weeks of use?

I got mine the first weekend they were available and it started turning pink right away. It's on the keyboard. I posted info in the "turning yellow" forum. This is weird! I don't use lotion, I haven't been around anything pink but it keeps spreading and getting darker. I've tried cleaning it but it appears as though it is the plastic, itself, that is changing colors. It doesn't look like there's anything on it. It seems like some kind of weird chemical reaction to the oils in my skin. If anyone has any idea what this is, I'd really like to know. It's very odd. I guess, since I'm a girl, if it was going to change any color, this one is alright

  • Weird staining on new white macbook

So i just received a brand new White Macbook on Tuesday. This morning i noticed that the exact area where I use two fingers to push the mouse button (slightly to the left because i'm used to left-clicking) has a strange dark stain. I've tried using a mild soap with a moist towel and this has no effect. Just wondering if there is anything that can be done because i would hate for my brand new laptop to already have a visible blemish.
please copy, paste the following link for picture, just click through the album(it does not show up easily on my camera for some reason)
    http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/tt78/greyfox121/
    Thank you very much.
    Any help would be apprec

it looks like you just got something on your fingers like ink and then used the trackpad. my trackpad has similar stains because i use my isight camera to do my makeup in the morning... so my fingers coverd in makeup transfer it to the trackpad, keys, etc. eye makeup remover does the trick, i definately don't recommend using nail polish remover on your computer x)

  • Macbook Water Spill, Screen 'Stained'

    0870 876 0753
Hello, i recently was washing my macbook screen with just a slightly wet tissue and a few drops reached the bottom, and then i started seeing the water rising in my screen so i quickly wiped it all up. I un-clipped the casing around the screen and dried that up. Im wondering if this can be dried out and easily sorted.
But i’ve heard many opinions from loads of sites so i don’t actually know what will work.
Can anyone give me any advice on how i can fix this or if i will have to buy a whole new screen which i don’t have a clue on the costs. But i would hope it could just evaporate and be left fine.
    Thanks

Yeah, im going to just leave it for a while. I had it on earlier and i could see that it was slowly going because of the heat from the macbook (yes, it overheats). So im going to do a night with it left on and plugged in to see if it works.
