Macbook Start and Standby Problem

Hi
My Macbook Pro (Late 2009) seems to have a Problem with any kind of starting up. When i go into standby mode,(close the macbook) and open it again, it turns on for a short second, and shut down completely. It is the same with starting up when it was shut down, except it isnt always a second, sometimes it loads approximately 99% and goes off again, sometimes i have to push the power button a few times. It only starts/wake up after standby when i plug in the battery cable. And this is weird: when i press the option key at the startup, wait a few seconds, and choose the macintosh hd for the startup disk, it starts immediately. Sadly, there is no workaround for standby. That Problem started a few months ago.
I thought it was caused by the 5 years old battery, but i just replaced the battery and the hard drive a few days ago, and its still there.
I also reinstalled the OS, checked the hard drive with the disk utility, and tried a pram and srm reset.
Still no chance to start it normally, help please

70 is fine. If you want to keep it cooler, as I do because I use it on my lap, you can download smcFanControl for free from www.macupdate.com. It allows you to set your fans at a higher speed than Apple did, but doesn't allow you set it lower or interfere with acceleration under stress. If I set my fan at 3000 rpm minimum, which is silent, my temps stay in the 50s. At 3500, which is barely audible in a silent room, I can stay in the 40s. It's up to you.
The left side of my macbook can also be pushed in, or it seems as though it can, but that's been true for months without a sign of any problem.

    Hi Danny,
Per my understanding that you can't get the expect result by using the expression "=Count(Fields!TICKET_STATUS.Value=4) " to count the the TICKET_STATUS which value is 4, the result will returns the count of all the TICKET_STATUS values(206)
    but not 180, right?
I have tested on my local environment and can reproduce the issue, the issue caused by you are using the count() function in the incorrect way, please modify the expression as below and have a test:
    =COUNT(IIF(Fields!TICKET_STATUS.Value=4 ,1,Nothing))
    or
    =SUM(IIF(Fields!TICKET_STATUS=4,1,0))
If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.

  • Java Web Start and JNLP Problem

    Hi !
Im a student and i need your help for a work that i have to do.
I have an aplication that parse an XML file.
The XML file is in ther server, and when i run the aplication with Java Web
Start and jnlp file i want that the application parse a XML file.
is this possible??? how can i do ???
if you dont understand please warn me, that i try to explain better..
    thanks, in advance.
    Rui Silva , Portugal

I'm not sure that you need webstart.
Just an applet will allow you to read a file from the server:
Just open a URL pointing to the .xml file.
Read the file into a buffer and then parse it.
Now actually getting the applet to do something with the contents of the .xml file
is more complicated. Presumably you need to write something which understands the
contents of the .xml and does something in response to the contents.
A signed java program can be run from with in webstart which can spawn processes on
the local machine. os.systemExec("command a b c"); But of course that has cross platform
    problems.
    Good luck

  • Video lag at start and stability problems in Android 4 (ICS) when using Video and StageVideo

I'm experiencing some problems with video playback in a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablet, which comes with Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
In Android 3 (Honeycomb) and 2 (Gingerbread and Froyo) video playback worked perfectly and started with no lag, but in Android 4 video takes like a couple of seconds to start, showing nothing during that time.
This problem happens when using either Video and StageVideo objects, but when using StageVideo, there's also another problem: When playing back a second video after having closed the first, even after some minutes, when starting the next video I can see during those couple of seconds a still image of the previous video, in the part where it was stopped. Why?
None of this happened in Android 3 and 2, so I don't think it's something related to my code (and I've reviewed it several times to try and find a solution). This seems to be an Android 4 specific issue with AIR, since I've tried several Android 4 tablets of different brands and all of them show this behaviour. I've tried with AIR 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 beta, and this problem happens in all three.
Also, there are some random stability problems if the app goes to sleep while playing a video. Sometimes, it doesn't wake up properly and freezes, giving you a "force close" Android message. Sometimes it wakes up properly but the video doesn't show or it's paused. All of this in "CPU" mode. In "Direct" mode it seems to work a little better.
BTW, can someone explain what's exactly the new "Direct" mode. I know it's needed for Stage3D, but I don't know why there's that specific mode, when there's GPU mode. Isn't Stage3D supposed to use the device's GPU? Well, Direct mode seems to be "better" than GPU in that filter effects work, whereas GPU mode doesn't support filters, so if you can use Stage3D while using filter effects, that's great.

Yes, it's unfortunately still not fixed. Also, I've looked into the bugbase report I filed:
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3205172
And it seems they've CLOSED this bug!
They say that they can't "control the video overlay buffer that is still in the hardware. This really depend on how ICS handle their buffer and external playback".
The only workaround is NOT using StageVideo, but just regular video. But then you can't use hardware acceleration!
Also, there's the crashing bug, which is even more important. Video crashes too often, especially in off-brand tablets, which are becoming very common!

  • MacBook starts and instantly enters sleep mode

In the past few days I've been experiencing a reoccurring problem with my macbook pro. I press the power button, hear the startup of the drive, and then sometimes the display will turn on for a second(mostly stays off), and then enters sleep mode instantly. I can not get on my macbook unless I turn it on and let it sit for 15-20 minutes, then MAYBE the display will activate. Please help.

Do you hear a chime at startup? How do you know it is entering sleep mode and not turning off? Does the cursor move on the screen? Here is something from another user's experience:
I had the same issue with my 2008 iMac and Apple support walked me through the fix yesterday...
    1. Shut the computer down by holding the power button for 10 seconds
    2. Restart the computer and press shift at the same time until you see the progress bar start moving
    3. Once you reach the point where your screen goes dark and you see the cursor, type the first letter of the username for your computer, then hit Enter, then type your password, then hit Enter.
    4. After a moment, you should see the spinning beach ball
    5. Your screen should then move on to something along the lines of "Completing OSX Installation" (I can't remember the exact wording). Let it finish. After that it should go to your normal desktop and the issue should be fixed. (If your screen goes pitch black during this process, hit the space bar. I thought it wasn't working, but the screen was just sleeping).
Apparently it's an issue with an automatic update that never quite got past the login screen.

  • Macbook Pro and WEP problem

    Hello guys,
Ive been looking for a solution to this problem for a long time. I have seen various variations of my problem but nothing exactly the same. But still I appologise in advance if this has already been covered.
Basically I bought a MacBook Pro back in late November and for some reason I cant connect to any network that has a WEP password. I had one on my home network and had to remove it leaving the connection open in order for me to connect. but now I am on holiday and I am having the same problem. I have the right password and everything but it just wont connect to it. I get a message saying "cannot connect to <network name>"...its quite frustrating.
What could be wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated, or if you can just point me in the right direction that would be cool too
    Thanks guys
    Ross

My MacBook Pro had been working fine with my WEP encrypted wireless router until my husband "fixed" the router to work with his lame XP laptop. He reset the router and reinstalled it, then I could not connect unless it was set to WPA, and he couldn't connect until it was set to WEP. I finally figured out how to connect using the WEP. I have to open Internet Connection and instead of selecting my wireless network from the list, I have to select 'other', and then select my home network. Then I have the option to select WEP hex instead of WEP password. My password then works. I don't have to put a $ in front of it.
Now I have the problem of having to do this each time I turn on the MacBook, though. Does anyone know a way to change the default encryption for a wireless network so I don't have to go through this each time? I tried changing the preferred network settings, but, again, when I pick the home network from the list it does not recognize my password because it thinks that it is WEP password instead of WEP hex.

  • MacBook Pro and Internet problems

I do have a RT-N56U Assus and a Macbook Pro, Obviously with Internet connection problems (it looks like the protocol is not 100%accurate). My three windows PC work nicely but not my apple one.  I tried different solutions without success. Nevertheless, I solved this issue Just  doing the next
    In your MacBook Pro
    1. Go to system preferences.... wi-fi  advanced... (bottom right)
    2. Then TCP/IP  tab and select and copy the router ID
    3. Go to Safari and paste in the search line the ID number (e.g.  321.321.2.2.)
    4. Log in to your browser usually is... user; admin  password;  admin
5.In the Router go to more config  (bottom right)
    6. In wireless mode  use g only  and tick the b/g protection (if already not selected)
    7. Enjoy Internet.

    Sig,
Thanks for the advice. I finally tried a solution after doing nothing. LoL. What I did do was change the channel the router was on from 9 to 7. I think I've done something like this in the past when I had slow internet and that worked out well too. I thought that would help and so far so good. Not an interruption so far but we shall see. To the guy or girl who expressed that they had the same problem as me I would try changing the channel of your router like I did. I will monitor the situation and see if it totally solved my problem or not and keep this thread updated. Thanks people

  • T43p and standby problem

T43p won't come out of standby mode - screen remains black and no processor action.
Is there is know cause, and a solution?

    Hi Zoran
I use often hibernation mode but sometimes I shut down notebook on usual way. As far as I know hibernation mode should not be used constantly longer than 14 or 20 days because some applications can not start properly.
In my opinion you should shut down the notebook or restart it once a week. Do this sometimes and I am sure that it will be better.

  • Volume "Quacking" and standby problems

I want to turn off the keyboard volume raise "quacking" noise like you can in OSX. It just gets irritating in windows. I would imagine you could delete the sound file within the program, but hey if anybody knows how to do it I would appreciate it.
Now to get to the important part: *System Standby*
Whenever my Macbook pro goes into standby under windows xp (I close the lid or it just goes into standby under power settings) it either successfully goes into standby and resets itself to the previous screen or I am greeted with a blank screen and have to hold down the power button and restart the computer.
    Mostly I get the latter....
    Any tips or fixes? Thanks

  • MacBook Reboot and install problems

MMacBook pro. When I selected down load and restart to install updates, it did the usual reboot. but before I can get to the log in screen, it takes me to a screen with the apple logo, a spinning wheel and a loading bar. The loading bar gets to 99%, then disappears and two seconds later my MacBook shuts off. I have repeated this process many times and have experienced the same result everytime.

  • Macbook Air and iBahn problem -- can't get to the log-in page

This is a new Air (2012) running Mountain Lion 10.8.2.  The location is a Sheraton hotel that uses iBahn for Internet service. I can connect to the wifi network "iBahn," and the Network preference panel shows that my Mac has been successfully assigned an ip number. I click the advanced tab and confirm that iBahn's DNS servers are now listed there. But when I open the browser and try to connect, I cannot get the hotel log-in page. I get a blank window instead. Reloading the window does not help. I have tried the usual remedies: turning wifi off and then back on again, requesting a new DHCP lease, closing and reopening the browser, trying different browsers (Firefox, Chrome), restarting the computer -- none of this works. I have tried shutting down the Mac, restarting, and signing in to a different account on the computer. The symptoms are the same -- a blank page instead of a log-in screen. I have had no trouble connecting with several other wifi networks elsewhere -- including ones that require a browser log-in page. Later the same morning, the wifi at the airport worked just fine.
Here is where it gets even weirder. I happened to have a second Mac Air with me -- a 2010 model. It logged on to the hotel network with no problems: I opened the browser and the log-in page immediately appeared.
And weirder: There was also an ethernet cable in the room. When I plugged that into the 2012 Air (with a USB-ethernet adaptor) I could connect with no problem. Finally, I found that I can plug an Airport Express into the ethernet cable and the 2012 Air will connect wirelessly through that.
What could be wrong here? I assume that iBahn works by obtaining and registering a machine's MAC address. Using wifi, Ibahn was able to get the MAC address from the older 2010 Air and from the Airport Express, but not from the 2012 Air. But the 2012 Air could provide its MAC address through a wired connection. Any advice would be most appreciated. Though I was able to come up with a workaround, I want to ensure that this doesn’t happen elsewhere.

That's a good question. The page appeared to be blank. I didn't know it was possible to enact the page source view feature in Mountain Lion. That is good to know for the future -- thanks.
An additional bit of information: a Windows laptop was also able to connect. I wonder if something changed in the Apple wifi firmfare that is incompatible with iBahn.
Interestingly, similar problems are reported in these forums for iPads and iBahn. And FlyerTalk has a thread about Apple laptops and iBahn: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marriott-rewards-including-ritz-carlton/1228814-i bahn-aggravation.html

  • Computer won't start and other problems

Recently I've noticed my computer getting slower and slower (including during startup). Today it failed to startup. Sometimes when starting up it'll be a blank grey screen and then I'll restart it and it'll go to the Apple logo with the spinning progress circle but stay on that forever. I started it up on the install disc and went to disk utility and it stuck on the "gathering disk information" and never got beyond that. Any idea what I can do?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I'm wondering if this could be a hard drive going bad. I don't really know if a failing hard drive could show these symptoms. However, your experience with Disk Utility being stuck on "gathering disk information" makes me wonder.
One test that you could do would be to use the Startup Manager to try to see if your hard drive shows up. To invoke the Startup Manager, you need to hold down the option key while you restart. After a bit, the system should display the disks (or volumes) from which you will be allowed to startup. The link has more detailed information.
If your hard drive does not show up as one of the available startup volumes, that could be consistent with a bad hard drive. I am not sure that would be the only explanation, though. If your hard drive shows up, select it and see if you can boot from it.
