Macbook Stuck at Gray Apple Loading Screen

I just went through and deleted a lot of files from my macbook last night. I cleared off about 60GB of space and used some programs to delete various languages and clear my cache. I turned my computer off and then I woke up this morning and it was working fine. I surfed the net for a while and then installed a few apple software updates including the new iphoto update. I then restarted and tried to open iPhoto. It did not work so I just turned my laptop off and put it in my bag because I had to drive somewhere. About 2 hours later I tried to turn my macbook back on and now it is stuck at the gray loading screen with the apple. After a few seconds the little "loading circle" shows up but it just keeps spinning. I have tried restarting, taking the battery out, and resetting PRAM. None of these things work so I tried to boot up in safe mode but that didn't work either. Do you have any idea what could be wrong with it?

  • My macbook pro (early 10") is stuck at gray apple loading screen but will not go further.

I've done start-up in safe-mode but it just shuts down afterward. What should i do?

    Try Safe Mode first ...
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes a longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
If you can't boot into Safe Mode successfully, insert your install disc so you can verify and repair the startup disk using Disk Utility.

  • My iPhone is stuck in the apple loading screen

My iphone is stuck on the apple boot logo with the loading bar under it, and my computer doesn't say that it is plugged in. I've already tried holding the home and power button trick to turn it off, but my home button had been broken before this so it dosent do anything. I dont know of any other ways to get it out of this screen and working again.

NVM... broke down and called Apple Care.  Pressed on/off button and held it for a few minutes before pressing home button.  In recovery mode, but at least it is doing something now!

But I want to keep this a last option, when everything is failed.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated and I will love if something can tell me about the problem also

    Try the following:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

My MacBook Pro fell and now when I turn it on its stuck at the apple logo screen with a loading circle underneath it. What can I do to get passed this?

Sounds like something internal was damaged in the fall, probably the disk drive. Take to Apple and ask them to fix it.

i accidently downloaded something that made my webcam flash on spuradically even once i deleted it. when i restarted my computer it got stuck at the white loading screen with the grey apple and wont go past there..what is wrong? will applecare cover this?  my computer also slowed down drastically before it stopped working..thanks! HELP PLEASE!

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a boot failure is to secure your data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since your last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
         a. Boot into the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can boot now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
If you've booted from an external storage device, make sure that your internal boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
    Step 3
Boot in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you boot in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, your boot volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 5.
If you can boot and log in now, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the boot process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 4
Sometimes a boot failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 5
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select your startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then reboot as usual.
    Step 6
Reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 7
Repeat Step 6, but this time erase the boot volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer your data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 8
This step applies only to older Macs (not current models) that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery. Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a gray screen at boot. Typically the boot failure will be preceded by loss of the startup disk and system clock settings. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 9
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. If you can't get to an Apple Store, go to another authorized service provider.

  • MacBook Pro Will Not Boot Past Apple Loading Screen At All.

I am having a major problem with my MacBook Pro and it just wont boot past the apple loading screen at all
I have tryed al lot of ways to fix this and it just wont work
It does not go into safe mode, it does not boot from cd, the PRAM thing wont work, verbose mode or the comand + s mode wont work
I tryed clean install but it wont boot from dvd, also it will not boot in any other way
It was working perfectly last night and i just shut it down and it does not work know.
My friend was also trying to install Lion from his account but the .dmg for it did not open so we quit and that night i used it for my essay and finished and then i turned it off and next day in the morining it don't work
    HELP ME PLEASE

You can take the drive out of the computer, use a $20 IDE/SATA to USB adpater to another Mac
You can see if you can read the drive directly to gain access grab files, run Disk Utility and perhaps it can repair it.
If you can't read the drive then there is DataRescue for a whopping $99 but it will read any deleted (but not scrubbed, encrypted or overwritten) data for recovery. Least that way you can get your files back.
Once your data is off, Zero Erase the whole thing, install 10.6 on it with the other Mac.
When installed in the sick mac, the hardware firmware will read the new EFI firmware, load it and you'll have the boot keys back again ON THE SECOND BOOT, it doesn't load on the first.

  • Iphone 5 is stuck on apple loading screen. Please help?

I have an Iphone 5. I went to take a photo and my phone shut down and rebooted itself. This has happened many times and it just got overwhelemed and always turned back on. Currently my phone however is stuck on the black apple loading screen right before the phone turns back on.
Only problem is my lock button at the top does not work, and because of that i can not manually reboot. I had it hooked up to itunes and nothing was shown that i can get past this.
Please help, I am un able to find an answer on the internet and run out of my own ideas.
    Really appreciated!

Whatever the reason for whats happened if the lock button is faulty i would recomend getting in contact with an apple authorised service provider to get the button fixed while your still in warranty. As far as getting the phone to restart you will probably need to wait until it goes flat and try again. If the phone gets replaced you will lose any information on it so hopefully you can get it to turn on again.

  • Iphone wont load homescreen , stuck on apple load screen.

iphone powers on but it wil not load up ,it stays on the apple load screen.

Try to force your phone into recovery mode. Disconnect it from the computer's USB cord. Turn it off if you can by holding the sleep/wake switch until you see the red slide to off. If you can't turn it off, please continue. Press and hold the home button while plugging it into the computer's USB cord. Continue holding the Home button while iPhone starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo. When you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen, you can release the Home button and iTunes will display the recovery mode message.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Then you can restore your phone:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

  • Urgent help please: stuck on apple loading screen

I really need some help. I turned off my ipod touch 4th gen and turned it back on, and now it wont get past the apple loading screen. Ive been on this forum for over an hour, reading articles and nothings working. Ive tried holding down sleep/home and the apple logo just reappears, my computers not recognising it at all!
What can I do? Never had a problem with it before

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • MY MAC WON'T GO PAST THE FIRST WHT APPLE LOADING SCREEN!!!!!!!! HELP PLEASE

Umm..ok..here's the deal. My macbook pro won't go past the first white apple loading screen...right after i start it up. after a while the apple turns into a gray blinking folder with a question mark on it, big problem huh?..doesn't end there...now i figured "hey, how about i try to use the Mac OS X installation disk to see if that'll work?" so i do. Seems as if it were working, but not really..i get past the language choice page, and some other things and now i'm at the 'select a destination' page. There are not options for me to select. I play around with it a little more. Nothing. I restart the computer a couple times. Same results. So now i'm trying to eject the disk, impossible. Someone PLEASE HELP ME....i don't know what to do!!

I have seen the older tiger os when it loads to just a folder with a question mark and it general means that the hard drive has gone bad. I would suggest calling up apple and seeing what they can do for you, most likely you will have to get the drive replaced.

  • The old Apple loading screen on startup

Now I know this has been asked many times before but:
I turn on the Macbook and get to the grey loading screen with the Apple logo and the spinning gear thing. Last night I ran Software Update and, IIRC, updated iTunes, Safari and installed the OS security update. I can't remember which one because I was in a hurry, but one of the updates failed. Not sure whether that's relevant.
    What I have tried:
    Booting in safe mode.
Before this went past the grey screen to another screen with some command-line type stuff on it (I'm not techie so I don't know what it means) and then came up with a message in several languages that the computer needed restarting.
    Booting from OS X disk.
Booted up and got to Disk Utility. The HD is there and I repaired it twice - no problems.
    Resetting the SMC.
Still stuck on the grey loading screen.
Any help much appreciated. I'm hoping that, since the HD appears on Disk Utility, the disk isn't dying. Stupidly I haven't got a backup (which I will be remedying ASAP .

Just thought I'd say the Archive & Install worked perfectly. Once the installation finished it rebooted and everything was as I had left it. The only thing different was that OS X was rolled back to 10.4.8, so, for example, iTunes doesn't work because it is still installed as a version for 10.4.11. Easily fixed!
