Macbook suddenly cannot connect to WiFi

Hi guys,
All of a sudden, overnight, my Macbook Pro cannot connect to our home wifi network. I have tried every trick in the book, rebooting, changing "locations," changing the password of the router, moving around the priority of the difference connections, but whatever I do I get the same error message when I try logging in:connection timed out.
Until now it has functioned perfectly since we moved in here a month ago, and I have no explanation for what happened. At one point it looked like the problem was related to the ip-address as it could connect to the wifi but not get an ip-address, but now I cannot even replicate that!
Another issue I am considering is whether it could be disturbance from another wifi network (there is like 15 of them active in our building) Could that explain it?
Thanks!

try removing the security from your router, and connecting to the unsecured network.
If that fails, try to connect to another location, and see if you can connect to someone elses network.
Next connect the computer directly to the modem and see if that works.

  • My MacBook Pro cannot connect to WiFi

         Hi guys.
I have a MacBook Pro 15" which I got about two years ago. I'm using OS Lion 10.7. I didn't had any problems for two years but about a month ago our wifi had a little damage. So we bought another one, the same model. First none of the devices were connected but then our iPads and iPhones did. Then my sisters macbook pro which is the same of mine, got connected. But everytime I try to connect it says "Alert: no internet connection". My Macbook can find the wifi, but it cant connect it. When I open network preferences, It says "Wifi does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the Internet." But my sisters macbook with all same settings with mine can find the IP address! I really need help, Im a student and my homeworks are on websites so I should connect to internet. Hoping for answers .
P.S ( English is not my native language, so sorry for mistakes )

  • Macbook pro cannot connect to wifi

before i let apple fix my laptop cos of the malware, the wifi works fine. then i got my laptop last monday and i tried connecting to the wifi in the apple store and it worked okay. when i got home, i cannot connect to my wifi anymore. well it can detect the wifi but it usually states connection timeout and invalid password (rarely when i keep on connecting to the network even though its the right PW) then when i finally get connected, it'll be like NO INTERNET CONNECTION and this "!" will show up in the middle of the wifi status...
    please help.

and how do you do that "Power cycle the modem, router and your MBP." ? thanks!
btw, my other laptop which is a windows can detect our wifi and it has excellent connection . >( so its really stressful. please help!

  • Apple TV all of a sudden cannot connect to Wifi

My apple tv just stopped being able to connect to my wifi.  It locates it and all of my other devices, both apple and PC are connected to the Wifi and streaming without a problem.  I've restarted and tried to restore, troubleshoot, disconnect, try another wifi....etc.   i see a lot of similar issues on the discussion boards but no responses from someone that has a resolution.  I am in Buenos Aires and have been for over a month...it has worked fine up until today.  There are no apple dealers in BA so i'm out of luck if i can't get this to work.
it all started with my apple tv not being able to set the date and time....i'm assuming because it couldn't connect to the wifi.  I don't have an option to connect via ethernet either as it's a community router in the building.
    Any possible reason for this...resolutions?
    Thanks for everyone's help

Mine just started doing exactly the same. I'm in Tokyo and the house is wired for technology: thr router, airports, computers, ipads, iphones are all working absolutely fine. One minute I was watching Dexter the next asks for my password for network right out of the blue. Then says "Cannot connect to network" and gives and error -6, whatever the devil that is.
Really annoying..nothing else wrong with my network as I say, and I haven't updated any firmware in airport etc to disturb what was a perfect status quo. Really really annoying....wish I could do something other than share your pain Bitta Panda....but I've tried resetting everything as well - apple tv included.

  • Macbook pro cannot connect to public wifi

I am running OS X Lion 10.7.2 on a recently purchased Macbook Pro. I can connect to my home network and other family homes just fine, and I can connect to networks where there has been a sign-up process, for example my college wifi and our local leisure centre. But I've found I cannot connect to wifi in areas such as- On trains, in costa/ starbucks (so bt openzone, the cloud etc), and in the Apple store of all places! These I deem to be 'public wifi' and cannot seem to connect to them. I don't get any error messages or anything, my macbook will find the network and show that it had connected, but when I try and open Safari, pages will just not load. Any help appreciated!

That's a problem only your network administrator can solve.

  • My Macbook Pro cannot connect to the internet using an ethernet cord.

My Macbook Pro cannot connect to the internet using an ethernet cord. It was working fine for weeks, then all of a sudden just stopped. What could the problem be?

  • Macbook Pro cannot connect to the internet even when others can

Hi! Please help me. We have an internet WIFI connection in our office but only my MacBook Pro cannot connect even when I entered the correct password. My Iphone and Ipad work just fine. It says "connection timeout" but all other laptops can connect. I tried network diagnostics already and it always say "connection timeout". I dont know what to do anymore.

Yes, and when I open the Network Utility it shows a working IP address, and a 54Mb/s speed from the wireless router. It even shows the shared computers from my roomates. But when I try to access the internet it does not load anything on Safari or Firefox ( or any other internet application for that matter). It is completely unconnected. YET, As soon as I activate the AirPort card on the top right where I have my signal strength, it shows on the Network Utility information that there are 'packages' being sent and received, and I have NO programs open what so ever, I have closed everything except finder and network utility... Does this mean I am being hacked, or have some sort of Trojan or something in my computer? I ran an antivirus that my school provided, called Virex by McAfee, it came out clean except it says it cannot read one file.
I tried repairing my disk, and that did not work either. I did the Ram reset like you suggested, but that also did not work. I doubt it being a hardware error. I am going to try to connect it to an ethernet cable to see if that will work. Then I will let you know what happens with that, but that would still not be a solution since I need it wireless, cause the router is in another part of the house.
Thank you for your help, and I hope we can get this sorted out.

  • Hello, my sister her macbook pro cannot connect to our wireless internet. My imac however can, so the problem has to do with her laptop. We were wondering how we could solve this problem? Thank you very much in advance!

We did that, but it just doesn't seem to be able to connect. So basically we tried to connect to our network and insert the password, but afterwards it does nothing. Weird thing is also that the network symbol (top right of the screen) says that it has been connected, but when I go look at the system preferences --> network, it states that it has not been connected

  • My new IPad 3 cannot connect to WIFI even it has a full bar of the reception. In the same location, my PC and my smart phone get a full bar connection without any issues.  How can I do to fix the issues (can I switch to IPad 2)?

My new Ipad 3 cannot connect to WIFI even it has a full bar of reception. In the same location, my Windows 7 PC and Andorid Smart phone can connect to the same WIFI without any issues.  How can I fix it?  Without WIFI, the WIFI only IPAD is nearly useless. If it cannot be fixed, can I get a replacement for IPad 2?

Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation. If defective, you'll get a replacement.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
