MacBook Suddenly Doesn't Register iPod Nano

I have a MacBook and an iPod nano, which I've had for 7 months. I plug my ipod in through my MacBook's USB port to update it usually, and it always works. A few days ago, it started acting strange. I plug it in, and it turns on and begins charging, but it makes no noise signaling that its been recognized, it doesn't appear on the desktop, and it doesn't come up on iTunes so it doesn't update. Does anyone have any idea why this might be? Thank you!

We're having this problem too with my son's Nano (and probably with my daughter's if she could remember where she left it). Trouble is, being children they have lost the receipts (if they ever had them as they were gifts at Christmas), so although they got them 7 months ago we have no proof of that.
How likely are they to exchange them for us?

PC used to register iPod nano no longer available

I know this was a mistake. I registered my ipod nano on a computer I no longer have access to. I have a new computer at home, HP Compaq. My new computer is not recognizing my ipod and I'm not able to transfer songs purchased to my library. Is it possible to register my ipod on this computer and if not, if I reset all settings which I believe will delete my songs, will I then be able to register it? Thank you.

There is no actual registration between a computer and iPod. The iPod may be synced to a particular iTunes library, so you may need to get your songs off the iPod, set up your iTunes library on the new computer the way you want it, and then sync your iPod to the new library.
There is authorization between a computer and your iTunes Store account. So you will need to run iTunes on the new computer and use the +Authorize Computer+ command under the Store menu to authorize the new computer with your iTunes Store account. Your old computer will still be registered, but you can have up to five computers registered to one iTunes Store account.
Now, if you only need to transfer the items purchased from the iTunes Store from the iPod to the new computer, you can do the following. First, go to iTunes preferences Devices tab. Check the box that says +Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods+. This is just a precaution, because iTunes should ask before syncing your iPod for the first time with a new library.
Connect the iPod and run iTunes. If iTunes asks if you want to sync the iPod, decline to do so. iTunes should open and the iPod should appear in the iTunes sidebar. Select the iPod in the sidebar. Go up to the menu bar and select +File -> Transfer Purchased from <name of iPod>+. That would put all the iTunes Store purchased items on your iPod into your iTunes library.
Note: This only works for iTunes Store purchases. If you want other files off the iPod, you will need to use a third-party utility. iTunes will not do it.

I'm a longtime happy owner of an IPOD Mini and bought a second Gen IPOD Nano a few months ago that works great. I have two identical P4 Sony Vaios that I back up/clone from one to the other every so often to keep them as identical as possible. It's been some months though since I've backed up/cloned my primary laptop to the secondary, and the 2nd Gen Nano isn't being recognized by ITunes on my primary laptop, only my secondary laptop. However Windows recognizes the Nano just fine on the primary laptop on all 3 USB 2.0 ports (I haven't tried my Mini recently), and I can browse the file system of the Nano, but ITunes just doesn't see it.
As I mentioned, my secondary laptop works just fine with the Nano, both Windows XP AND ITunes recognizes it and can update it, but I don't want to have to use that computer JUST for updating my IPOD, and pretty soon I need to back up my primary laptop to my secondary. I've actually only been holding off on that because I can't get my Nano to be recgonized by ITunes with my primary laptop and don't want to screw them both up. Cloning my secondary laptop to become my primary isn't an option, the file system is many months outdated, I need to get the Nano working with ITunes on my primary laptop.
This is definitely a software/driver/service issue, I can take the hard drive out of my secondary laptop, put it in my primary, and ITunes will recognize the Nano just fine. I can take the hard drive out of my primary laptop, put it in my secondary, and ITunes can't see the Ipod. I've upgraded ITunes twice on the primary laptop in the last few months with no improvement, so that hasn't helped.

Nevermind. I uninstalled ITunes completely as well as the IPOD updater program (I think that's what it was basically called) that was installed on my system. I then rebooted, tested the Nano to make sure Windows recognized it, then tested it (successfully) with Winamp and the Winamp IPOD plugin. It was already working properly with Winamp and the IPOD plugin even when ITunes wasn't recognizing it so there was no change there. Once everything checked out I reinstalled the current version of ITunes and it FINALLY recognized the IPOD. It said there was a new software version available for the Nano so I went ahead and allowed it to download and install the update to 1.1. The update went smoothly and once the Nano restarted ITunes again recognized it. No clue what the problem was that created this error condition initially, but perhaps someone else will benefit from this information. I would have thought that reinstalling ITunes at least 3 times, including 2 version upgrades, would have resolved the problem, but it took removing ITunes and the IPOD software completely to resolve it.

Registering iPod Nano 4th with AppleId - registered to another Apple ID.

Hello, today i was trying to register my iPod Nano to the new Apple Id service. I'm the owner of the iPhone, MBPro and iPod Nano 4th. I registered iPhone and MBP but for the iPod Nano i'm getting the error:
According to our records, this serial number is registered to another Apple ID. If you have more than one Apple ID, log in to My Support Profile with that Apple ID to see your other registered products. Not sure if you have another Apple ID? Find out.
The fact is that i have only one appleid and it's the one i'm using on itunes store and i'm sure i registered it with iPod Nano 2 yrs ago, when i bought it. But how do i un-register it with the other apple id if i don't remember it at all?

Are you the original owner of the devices which say they're registered to another Apple ID? You will need to call Apple or go to the store to have this straightened out.

Registering iPod nano - Session timed-out even though already registered

Having purchased a new iPod nano, when connecting it to iTunes I received the screen to register the nano with the options to Never Register, Later or Continue. I chose Continue but received the message 'Your registration session timed-out'. I registered through apple.com but now every time I connect the iPod I get this same screen and always the same 'Your registration session timed-out' message. Actually, I've got this working. I had already tried resetting my Nano (take a look at the ipod support page at http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/ and lookup how to reset your ipod ) before and nothing doing.
However, the other day, I resetted it again and now my Nano is working fine! I got the 'registration' page and I selected 'Never Register' (although I have already done so via the web site) and can now update my Nano properly. I wonder if I didn't reset it properly last time - I can't think why else it didn't work last time. Ah well, try resetting and see what happens.

Need help registering iPod Nano (3rd Gen) into iTunes

Got the 3rd Gen iPod nano for Christmas, but I'm having difficulty setting it up.
The manual says I need to wait for something known as a "Setup Assist" to come up. Nothing ever did.
Also, in iTunes, it tells me (when I click on the iPod icon under "devices") that I still need to register the product. It takes me to the terms and conditions sheet, and as is typical, tells me to "agree to terms" and then... I click "save." it asks me to save an rtf file onto my computer. I do so, but nothing ever happens. And my iPod still won't work.
Am I saving it somewhere wrong? (I've saved it in My Documents, as well as the iPod and iTunes folders in My Programs)

Okay! I found out what to do.
What you're going to have to do is go into the Control Panel on your computer.
Go into "Appearance and themes." You're going to have to change the screen resolution. 1280x600 or so should do the trick.
Go back into iTunes and you should see the "continue" button on the far right. (Very scrunched up and annoying, I know. But it works!)

Was just woundering, why iTunes wants me to register my iPod nano everytime i connect it to my iMac? Shouldn't once be enough?

I have never seen any of the buttons you mention in the registration menue .
When plugging in the nano you have 3 choices:
- don't register
- continue
- the other one i have forgotten... cancle or something.
By clicking continue you get into a page where to enter your acc, pw, and country. you can then either cancel or continue.
Next page you can enter further details like name, last name, phone number etc...
Best option here is the range of age where the iPod user is part of:
At least in German versio there is a typing mistake - the range between 10-33 that is choosable should probably be 10-13 but who cares.
You can then either choose cancel or continue again. By pressing continue you land in the iPod menue, where you can select which things to synchonice.. etc.
But there is never one of the buttons you mentioned.

Windows doesn't recognize ipod nano, neither does itunes

Okay, just received my ipod nano 8gb in the mail, was very excited. Now I'm just tired of it.
I am running windows xp on an athlon 2400, connecting my ipod via usb 2.0. I have four usb ports, and have tried them all. I have itunes 7 etc installed.
Upon plugging in my ipod, the windows add new hardware dialog appears. I can ignore it, or attempt to run it automatically, and it fails either way. My ipod is installed as an "other device" named "ipod" as a yellow question mark. effectively, it isn't installed.
My ipod doesnt appear in My Computer as an external storage drive or anything else for that matter. I have no network drive to conflict with the naming standard, although I do have a CD and DVD drive labeled E and D, respectively. I attempted to rename those drives in case of conflict, and nothing happened.
When I run itunes, no ipod installer or updater appears. No device is detected. I cannot Sync my ipod. The diagnostic tool simply says that the ipod connection failed, and after visiting the accompanying Help link and attempting -every- solution, nothing has changed.
In fact, I have reviewed and attempted every single solution to every similar or somewhat-related problem that apple has posted at their site, as well as some from these discussion forums and others around the web. My point is, please hesitate before you link me to one of apple's support manuals--I've read them all, extensively.
I have a fair knowledge of computers, but this problem is simply beyond me. I have established that my ipod can connect to another computer (running windows ME) and appear at least in My Computer as a drive. I believe the problem is related to my USB ports, their drivers, or perhaps (god forbid) my OS.
ANY help or suggestions would be appreciated, even if they are redundant. I am at an utter loss.

You're pretty much describing a problem I had yesterday.
I've got the 2gb model and initially it was working fine. I run off a 4 port usb hub with other equipment running as well.
Everything was okay but I kept getting a balloon telling me that usb 2.0 would be faster, so I routed my extension cable directly to a usb 2.0 port on my computer and all of what you describe started.
The PC showed my nano as a removeable drive but could not be acesssed. If I managed to get it recognised in itunes (took forever) then it just said it was corrupted and was unable to restore.
After much cursing and trawling the internet for answers, I gave up and put the cable back to the hub.
And.....everything worked again !!
I can only conclude that my hub (quite old) does not work on usb 2.0, or putting the extension cable (5m) straight into my PC causes a power drop / signal loss ??
Are you using an extension cable or a hub? something to try.

Computer doesn't recoginize iPod nano 7th Generation and it will not power on

My iPod Nano 7th Generation was working I plug it inot the computer and computer would not recoginize it and now it will not power up.

Try:
- Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

XP doesn't recognize IPOD nano

Hy everybody,
I've got brand new Black iPod nano. After just three weeks of good workin I've plugged as usual the iPod to the PC and it seems that XP simpli don't recognize it. The iPod don't show the "don't disconect logo" but for the the rest is seems to work fine, I can browse the controls and play music. The battery logo show the "in charge" (after a while it becames full screen) lighting. But for the rest XP don't recognize anything. I also can't see as disk unit in My computer.
Any suggestion? I didn't anything different from usual, it was just the fourth time I was plugging iPod.
Ah, yes the port is USB 2.0 and OS is XP whit SP2.

Macbook suddenly doesn't work on certain routers

I've had my macbook for about 2 years, and suddenly it doesn't work on my router at my apartment. The macbook says it's connected to the router, but the homepage never loads. This also happens at my college (i doubt there's a problem with BOTH networks). The thing is, my macbook will connect and work at the local coffee shop just fine.
It's also not a problem with Firefox alone, so I figured something is wrong with my macbook. I tried resetting the PRAM and some other "quick fixes" after multiple google searches (i could spend days researching little fixes).
I haven't found anyone with quite the same problem as me. I was wondering if someone had a similar problem and fix, or if I should call up support.

I have a MACbook Pro laptop with MAC OSX 10.6.8. system,it works for 2 years without any problemwith any of my apps and devices,for a couple of weeks ago during my ipod 5th gen synchronization I disconnected the ipod twice then reconnected to the computer at the first time nothing was happened no errors've been appeared, then after awhile during the ipod connection to Itunes I've been receiving many errors that say " the ipod is not ejected recently, eject it now from finder and save information", I thought the solution is updating Itunes I have updated to Itunes 10.6.3 (25) which made my problem double so now my iphone 3G and Ipod 5th gen doesn't appear in Itunes even with errors and in Iphoto as well. I have checked the USB connection for other devices USB ports work, I don't know these problems are related to devices or Itunes and Iphoto apps.
