MacBook suddenly froze, rebooted and now gets stuck

These forums have been helpful in the past, so I thought I might try them again.
My MacBook circa 2006 (with a different hard drive and updated keyboard/trackpad section courtesy of Apple in mid 2009) has suddenly stopped working. It was working fine until it suddenly froze. I was playing music at the time and it looped the same 1 second over and over. I powered it off by holding the power button.
I waited around a minute then powered it on again. It did the chime, displayed the Apple logo, but then got stuck (it didn't get as far as displaying the pinwheel).
I attempted to reset the PRAM (descibed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 ), which seemed to do nothing.
Also attempted to restart while holding CMD + S, which got stuck on the following lines:
IOAPIC: Version 0x20 Vectors 64:87
ACPI: System State [S0 S3 S4 S5](S3)
I don't think it's a hard drive failure - no clicking sounds and it seems to work properly (judging from the normal sounding HD sounds coming from it when I tried the CMD+S reboot).
Try starting in Safe Mode.

IBook crashed and now gets stuck on setup assistant
Hi
My friends iBook running Leopard had a kernel panic when updating system software and now every time he tries to start up it goes straight to the setup assistant. If you quit setup assistant it goes to a blue screen and then straight back to setup assistant. Everything still seems to be there as there's only 4GB of space left on the hard drive, i've tried going through the "Your Mac wont start into Mac OS X" page and nothing has helped.
Any help would be really useful!

Benyou could try connecting to another Mac in target mode to access the drive,
another thing to try is to back everything up to the external drive and erase/reinstall everything again.
strange startup problems could be caused by failing hard drive also. -
I recently restored my 2009 macbook to factory settings and now its stuck on the welcome screen where u choose your country. My trackpad allows me to move the arrow around but when I tap on it to select continue it does nothing at all. The only thing else it will allow me to do is go thru the voice over tutorial by pressing escape. Please help me fix this I need to use my computer.

I found a couple of resources to help troubleshoot the issue you are experiencing. The first is this article named Intel-based Mac notebooks: Troubleshooting unresponsive trackpad issues found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1248.
Try disconnecting the MagSafe connector from the computer and check the trackpad function. If the trackpad becomes responsive again, improper grounding may be the issue.
If a two-prong AC plug is being used with the power adapter, try using the three-prong power cable that shipped with your computer and plug it into a grounded outlet.
If the issue persists, make sure the third prong is present and do not use an adapter to enable the three-prong adapter to be used in a two-prong outlet. Note that the ground in the three-prong outlet may not be connected. This is common in older homes or buildings with replaced outlets. In these situations, the three-prong power cable will not improve trackpad responsiveness.
If a grounded outlet is not available, rest your palm on the palm rest when using the trackpad. This should enable the trackpad to function properly.
If that does not resolve the issue then I recommend resetting the SMC on your computer. Here is an article on how to do that:

I figured it out!!!
Hey guys! Here's what I did that saved my project.
-SHORT VERSION-
Use the Finder window on your Mac to copy and paste your old project (the one not showing up in imovie) to a new folder so that iMovie will see it.
-LONG VERSION-
CONDITIONS:
The project has to exist on your hard drive. To see if it's hiding around somewhere go to:
Home (your name)>Movies>iMovie Library (right click and select Show Package Contents)
In the iMovie Library folder (the default is usually the date) open it to see if your Project is inside. If it is, you are in luck!
RESTORING PROJECT:
Open iMovie
start a new folder under the iMovie Library (again, the default is usually todays date)
Close iMovie
In the finder window (as explained above in the CONDITIONS section) select the files and folders of your project and copy them (in my case these consist of folders called Analysis Files, Original Media, "MYPROJECT", Render Files, Shared Items)
There should now be a folder with today's date in that Show Package Contents folder.
Paste a copy of your project;s files into this folder.
When it is done copying, open up the "Original Media" folder and all of your images and clips should be present.
reopen iMovie. Your project should show up in the Libraries list.
*If your full project isn't showing in the iMovie timeline (mine just had empty bubbles where all my clips and audio should be) try dragging and dropping the clips and images from the project's "Original Media" folder into the import section of your project. Once the files were reimported, iMovie recognized them all and put them back in the correct place for me.

okay well another question the track pad on my 11 inch mac got stuck and wouldnt work and i took it to the apple store and had a tech look at it and he said it was working and i got home and it still wouldnt work so i took it back again to another tech and he said the guy before didnt fix it right and he said it was broken and that i needed a new track pad and he said he would replace it but they didnt have any trackpads in the store at the time but he fixed it enough that it barely works but he said i needed to come back to get a new trackpad because he fixed it enough that it would only work for a short period of time, so i went back the other day to another tech and told him and he said that since it still works they wouldnt do anything about it. but it barely works and barely clicks down should they fix it since the one tech told me it will only work for a short time and that if i came back they would replace my trackpad ? i have apple care and i am still under the 1 year warranty.

Sorry, I'm here, but I am at work.
If you do not have a backup and iTunes will not let you backup now, unfortunately you will lose everything.
I'm not sure that I understand what you saying about iTunes not nothing the device being plugged in, but I iTunes does not see the device that is one of the reasons that you need to use recovery mode.
If you are running iTunes 11 and you cannot see the iPad under the devices heading because you can't see the sidebar - go to View>Show Sidebar at the top of the screen in iTunes. -

Hi mnomi! Sorry to learn of the trouble you're running into with your new phone! Have you already switched the device via your My Verizon : http://vz.to/16lkVUY Once you have done this, and verify the sim card is inserted securely, the activation will begin. If the phone is stuck on the wheel and you cannot move forward, you may want to do an alternative reset. Please follow the below instructions:
1) Ensure the device is powered off.
2) Press and hold the Volume Down button (located on the right edge) until instructed to release in step 4.
3) Press and hold the Power button (located on the top-right edge) until the device vibrates (approximately 2 seconds) then release.
4) When the restore screen appears (exclamation mark), release the Volume Down button.
5) From the restore screen, press then release the following keys to initiate the reset process:
1. Volume Up button
2. Volume Down button
3. Power button
4. Volume Down button
*Allow several minutes for the process to complete (rotating gears appear on the display to indicate that the reset is in progress).

I have been using Elements11 for almost a year. I am suddenly getting the message:Some of the application components are missing from the application directory. Please reinstall. I deleted old version, reinstalled on my Mac and now get this message:A required application library failed to load and the product cannot continue. I also get the first message again. Organizer works but not editor. Frustrated!

Hey, I just installed ML on my OCZ Octane SSD, everything went ok, However, it got stuck while rebooting and now I can only see flashing question mark icon and ML won't boot at all. Only in safe mode...

If you can wrap some adhesive tape around a stiff business card and insert it inside and see if you can capture it. If possible, hold the MBP in a position where gravity is your ally.
You can open the MBP up, remove the optical drive and open it up or make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have them extract it.

Imac frozen at blue screen after i went into disk utilities and cleaned free space.
I tried holding down T key as it reboots
and i get a message. Start up disk full empty it how can one emptie it if you cant get past the blue screen?
to make matters worse we bought the IMAC of amazon uk on the 4/07/011 so what can we do?
please remember how frustrating it is when asking for help when the helper telling you to type something on the screen when its frozen

when i went into disk utilities and chose to clean my free space i left it over one hour to do its stuff
i came back and there was no progress bar just the box so i quit the program and when i opened mac mail the system just froze i forced quit mail rebooted and blue screen death
Now when free space is being cleaned is it the same as windows dose the utility write lots of 0 on the hard drive then rebbot its self to free the space
