Macbook takes long to go to sleep

Hello,
My macbook used to take about 5 seconds or less to go to sleep when I would manually put it to sleep. It now takes about a minute for it to go to sleep. I read  on a forum that you may have a job stuck in the printer que. This is not my problem. I've tried to start in safe mode and it's still not fixed. I've also checked the permissions and repaired those. Is there anything else I can do to try and solve this problem? Im currently using version 10.7.4. Thanks

  • Why does my MacBook take long to boot up

If I force shutdown my MacBook then restart it, it stays on the load screen for minutes sometimes beyond an hour. I have already verified and repaired the disks and permissions but it still takes long to load. Any ideas why it could be taking so long to reboot?

The first thing to do is startup up in Safe Mode and see if the machine behaves acceptably.  There is a second knowldege base article that may help give further guidance.

  • Windows 7 brightness reverts back, wifi takes long to reconnect after sleep

    Hi fellow members,
My brightness setting keeps reverting to max. I have tried setting via power manager and also from control panel.I can adjust but when the computer restarts, the brightnes reverts to max. It started happeing around a month ago. I didn't have these issues until about 2 months ago. I have had my x301 for over an year without issues.
Another issue I have been experiencing is that wifi takes a long time to reconnect after sleep. About 5 minutes. This is also a new issue.

Check in the Windows power profile for the brightness issue. Windows will apply it's own at boot, then Power Manager will override, which leads to a momentary discrepancy.

  • Macbook takes longer time to launch & log in after 10.6.4 update

    After 10.6.4 update,
my macbook took quite a long time to launch the log-in screen page.
Not only that, upon logging in, the dock, icons & toolbars took long than usual to appear as well.
Though, it's just a minor problem, but anyone else is experiencing this problem?

I have experienced slow loading time even after a reboot with 10.6.4.
Additionally, Flash programs are not loading in my Safari 5; experienced problems accessing my new phone upgrade options on the Verizon wireless website and some games will not load.
Also when I mouse over drop down menus on the Verizon wireless website, the screen appears to bulge before returning to a "normal" view.
I'm ready to backtrack to 10.6.3 and Safari 4!!!

  • Why does my mac take longer to go to sleep

    Hi
I wonder if anybody has experienced their macs taken longer to close down the screen when put to sleep.
When I used to hit sleep, macs screen would disappear immediately, now it stays on for 30 secs or more than shuts down.
My mac is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I just bought my macbook pro 2 weeks ago and have noticed that when I go to start it up, it takes longer to power up than when I first bought it. Does anyone know why this may be and of a fix for it?

Hi. It could be that the more you pile on the HD, the longer it will take to boot. When I first bought my MBP, it took maybe 30 seconds. But as I began putting more content on the HD, it seemed to take a bit longer to boot. You may also want to consider putting your MBP in sleep mode. That's what I do with mine and it doesn't hurt at all as far as I can tell.

  • MacBook no longer goes to sleep automatically

I asked the question in the Mac Pro forum by mistake.. Hopefully I can get some input here?
My MacBook no longer goes to sleep automatically after the 'Computer Sleep' period has elapsed and without me using it. I can however make the MacBook go to sleep by using a sleep command from the menu or the one on the logon screen, as well ask closing the lid.
I have tried hard to find out what the problem is, but to no avail
    1. I have reset the NVRam
    2. I have reset the SMC
    3. I have deleted the sleepimage cache
    A. I have turned off 'Wake for Network Access'
    B. I have a Magic Mouse, but have turned off 'allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer.
My MacBook won't sleep even if I close all programs beforehand.
These are the products that I have an start up:
    itunes helper
    radioshift helper
    colormunki
    media (mounted volume)
    skype
No one else uses my MacBook
I don't have any sharing services enabled that I am aware of. In any case no one would be accessing my MacBook from any other networked machine.
Time Machine is enabled and writes to a Netgear NV+
I have a similar problem with my Mac Mini. Can anyone help me analyse what is happening?
    Thanks for your help

Hi there, It's a very common problem. Some people seem to have solved the problem by checking Activity Monitor to see if there are any messages that may help identify if a piece of software is preventing the system from entering a sleep state. I did this and realised my external HD software was preventing the system from sleeping. Now my MBP 15" i5 predictably sleeps and my battery life is extended.
There is a lot of good advice here:--->>

  • Power on MacBook Pro takes me to login screen. All user icons appear as normal. Once I enter password for myself (administrator) spinning takes longer than normal and doesn't log in but displays a no sign

Power on MacBook Pro takes me to login screen. All user icons appear as normal. Once I enter password for myself (administrator) spinning takes longer than normal and doesn't log in but displays a no sign (circle w line through it) when attempting to login from guest account it takes me to screen that says that the computer will restart to a safe safari system for the guest user. I waited for a longer time and the grey denim screen comes up. By the apple in left upper corner it said I think LSA? Then safari menu bar. • MAcbook takes too long to boot

From one day to another our macbook takes too long to boot. The problem is since we push the power button until the first grey apple shows up, it can take up to 30 seconds. Since the apple shows up it boot in a few seconds. All the process up to 1.20 minutes.

Also... once you are in OS X, go to System Preferences and Startup Disk. Make sure your OS X volume is selected. Sometimes this can change causing your system to look for another startup disk... and it needs to "time out" before it moves on to the next. This is most common after removing a BootCamp installation of Windows... but can happen for any number of reasons.

  • My MacBook takes a very long to start up.

I just upgraded my mid-2010 polycarbonate (white) MacBook to OS X Lion last month, and I have noticed that, since the upgrade (during which I also replaced the existing RAM with 4 GB of RAM and a installed new internal hard disk), my MacBook takes literally over a minute to start up, when it previously used to take a much shorter time (definitely under 30 seconds). Also, the shade of white on the start-up screen changes from the Snow Leopard-style "pure white" to a sort of "cream white" as the computer boots up. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

>system preferences>startup disk.  Make sure your internal hard drive is selected as the startup disk.  If not, your mac will seach for it, which can be a cause of a long boot up time.

  • Why do emails on my Macbook Air take longer than they do to appear on the server site?

When I send or receive an email by clicking on the email icon at the bottom of the screen, it often takes longer to be sent or be received than if I go directly into the internet email site where it appears immediately.  At times, some people to whom I have sent emails do not receive them until hours later and conversely, incoming emails appear on the internet email site soon than they appear on my computer.  Can this be remedied?

Do you use Navionics for marine a marine chart plotter?  I noticed that after I installed all their (lousy) software on my MPB, this Navservice app would start up each time I booted.   It took me a while, but I tracked it down to the "LaunchAgents" folder in my system library.   Siince I quit the app each and every time I boot my MBP, I decided I didn't need it so I simply renamed the file from "com.apple.NavService.plist" to "com.apple.NavService.plist.old" and rebooted my MBP.  Voila, no more NavService app running in the background.
As far as the purpose of this thing, the plist entry is launching the following app:
    /Applications/Navionics World/NavService.app/Contents/MacOS/NavService
Take a look and see if you have the same thing.
The Navionics software for the Mac is obviously written by someone that doesnt' understand how Macs really work, and they scattered junk all over the place with their install routines.  In fact, if you update the software it will place redundant copies in redundant folders, etc. making it impossible to know which versions are the latest, etc.

  • Macbook Pro won't login after sleep (sleep with low battery -- mac turned off maybe it's called save sleep)

Macbook Pro won't login after sleep (sleep with low battery --> mac turned off maybe it's called save sleep)
So if I hit the powerbutton my mbp booted like it is booting from the save sleep (so very fast and the login screen is there in about 10 sec.and there is no apple logo while booting just the desktop screen in "unsharp" ore foggy however...)
Then when i see the login (if the keyboard backlight turned on) i wand do tipe in my code but it won't work... the trackpad is not working; and when i plug-in a usb mouse the mbp is not powering on the usb-mouse (laser is off)
    Why is that this way?
Is there n option to wake up the mbp fromm deep/save sleep without haveing issiues after that?
    THX

Sorry for such a long delayed response...
I was able to get to an apple store this past weekend, and let me tell you... I'm about finished with there great "support".
Right before I went to the store, I tried to eject a disk. Well the cloth in the SuperDrive (I assume to protect the drive from dust and such) Pulled up with my disk. So I get the Apple store, describe my problem and what happened with the cloth piece. The "Genius" writes up a form and tells me they have to run diagnostic and it will take a couple days... and I will get a call when its done (1-3 days).
Well on day number 3 I called up the store and they told me it was ready to be picked up? I asked if anything had been fixed and they told me they could not reproduce my "sleep issue", so they couldn't fix that.. but told me the cloth piece in the SuperDrive had been fixed.
I drive an hour (one way) to the Apple store to find that all they did was PULLED OUT the cloth... they did not replace it! So basically I have a hole for a Super Drive.
I asked why I was not called to say that my computer was ready to be picked up... didn't get an answer on that one.
I asked why my SuperDrive was said to be fixed, when nothing was done... they told me that it would have to be sent out to the factory store for that to be fixed (FIRST TIME THEY MENTIONED THAT!) Oh, and that would take 5-7 business days. Well that's not going to happen right now considering I'm a college student that NEEDS a working computer!
So I go home, angry... start just putting all my important documents back on the computer. And the screen starts blinking!!!! I guess now I have the same thing described in another post on these forms...
Lets just say that I'm not very happy with Apple right now! If anybody else has success on either the sleep issue or the screen blinking issue, please let me know!
    Thank you!

  • Why does it take longer to connect to my wifi network on Lion?

Since upgrading to Lion on my older MacBook Pro I've noticed that waking from sleep, it takes airport sometimes up to 10 or 15 seconds to find my wifi network.  This never was the case with Leopord or Snow Leopard.  Is this a known issue in Lion upgrades or is something wrong in my Network settings?

Hard to say definitively - nowhere near enough information, I'm afraid. One thing that I'm wondering is exactly what sort of drives you've put in the new machine. For instance, if you've put hybrid drives in it, then yes the stuff that gets used frequently (OS) may well load fast - but everything else will take significantly longer. Especially this would apply to large audio files. The other thing is .pk files. If you've turned those off, then large sessions will inevitably take longer to load (with Audition 3, at any rate) than they would have done otherwise. This situation appears to be a lot better with CS6 and CC, FWIW. But they have been completely rewritten, and designed to run on newer OS's, which Audition 3 simply isn't. Yes it will work fine - just won't be as effective in operation as the later software.

  • My macbook pro won't go to sleep when I close the lid

I've been having this problem for a couple of years now, and it's getting pretty annoying.
I got this MacBook Pro in April of 2011. Otherwise, it works great. It goes to sleep when I go up to the apple menu and select "sleep." BUT, when I close the lid, it stays on. Heaven forbid I don't have it plugged in, because then the battery will be shot! It also won't go to sleep automatically when I leave it for a long time. Yet another potential battery drain.
How do I fix it so that it goes to sleep automatically when I close the lid and when I leave it alone for a while?
In Energy Saver, I have checked all the boxes necessary: "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" "Wake for network access" and "Automatically reduce brightness before display goes to sleep."
Am I missing something here, or does my computer just have a defect?

    I had the same issue.
I used an external monitor but all of a sudden when I closed the lid my Macbook Pro did not go to sleep!
I solved the problem with a SMC reset.
    Try to do it...
